even today, this video is GOLD. thank *YOU* to infinity. btw, cuckoo and ezbot inspired me to get the entry level cycles. then the cycles inspired me to acquire an OT which even today is way ahead of its time. just my opinion. i loved the part about being able to create a whole new different track....somewhere in between the slider. lol.
Cuckoo's video is the only one I've seen that breaks down the basics and shows what buttons are being pushed, what menu settings are being selected and why certain things are being done. More videos like that with all of the features would definitely cut down on the number of people that sell this machine out of frustration.
I would love to see a PDF that walks you through all the steps you are doing there! The video has helped me a lot using this magic machine, but I miss several steps! Dear Elektron, your machines are awesome, but your manuals are not. Sorry!
Elektron Not at all, this video takes shortcuts and skips allthe bits you need to set up in advance with sampling modes etc. Also doesn't show how to save samples. If sampling was this easy on the octa I wouldn't have sold mine. I found the awkwardness of sampling & editing samples to be the main reason I sold it.
aikighost There were no shortcuts or preparation done during the sampling section. This sampling method will work straight out of the box - of course there are many other ways to sample with the Octatrack which will require changing the setup. You can also save the captured samples into the CF Card via the sample edit menu. The only preparation done was slicing up the Machinedrum sample wavefile which is explained during the video.
Elektron Well was this changed in an update? I always found it a total nightmare to sample on the octa when I had mine. Also the manual wasn't very helpful. It seemed to want to confuse me at every turn. By the time Id had it for 6 months I had kind of given up on sampling with it and just loaded stuff Id sample in NI Maschine over via usb.

all these videos have been excellent, but i enjoyed this one the most. :-) i feel like it could've gone on for another 20 minutes or so, as it was just scratching the surface! and that's why i love the OT so much. thanks cenk, thanks elektron
Thanks for this video. I've finally scaled the first significant section of the OT, and can now understand most what you're doing here. Inspiring! I enjoy your work!
Elektron are you running the output of the OT into any EQ's or Comps or is this the straight signal from the OT? Just curious because it sounds "mixed" very well.
In my judgment Octatrack is a post-produced-tracks machine made for live jams once everything is pre-configured, in this scenario it is THE BOMB. For wise musicians only.
u have a very restricted sight if u really think this. Post production? This machine is also a sound designer beast, the limit is just your immagination. Rather, u underrated one of the top aspect, that is just this: seems a 8 channel sampler, after understanding parameter lock and or automation, scene switch, ...u realise I'm right. A sound design beast.
Well you really banged through that. I’ve had my OT for 24 hours and I’m befuddled but if I can move like you are through the workflow I’m gunna kill it. Learn play learn play learn and learn some more. I’m not giving up the ship.there is incredible power here and when I get just some of it... stand back lol. Instead of just showing the box it would be nice if you could show close up of your key strokes and screen close up while you talk. Thanks!

Thank you Cenk, videos are great. But is it possible to do them 3X longer, as 3X slower buttons pushing ? Will it be a suite, specially for Octatrack ? ;-)
man why you guys gotta make me love my Octatrack again!! I was just about to sell her to raise funds to upgrade my MPC3000. Now I have to find something else to sell off.
Concrete slab in Kit form, with a 200 page manual and support vids🙃 I bought my octatrack three weeks ago, and I am enjoying the comments on these videos more than learning how to operate the unit 🤣 I love the way that my sampler feels like a cross between an 80s handheld video game and the control panel of a nuclear power station.
you can also resample any number of tracks onto one track, to free up tracks. plus there are 8 MIDI tracks for external gear. and now they've added conditional trigs. truly limitless. only downside to the OT now is the reverb is subpar compared to their newest machines. if OT had Digitakt reverb, forget about it.
I notice most people using this product to make sounds more fine or smaller, how is this machine in making smaller sounds bigger, does it doing anything like that very well? can the octatrack expand the original sound into a larger dimensional audio property.
Absolutely. Sample in a sound, slow it down, then run it through an EQ in effect block 1 and a Spatializer in effect block 2. If you want more, you can feed the output of that track into the input of another track and add 2 MORE effects, like reverb and delay.
The included "spatializer" effect is actually pretty powerful, allowing you to independently adjust volume for mid information and side information of a sample. It's like a widener.
this product looks and sounds like the best for the market of what it does but everyone that uses it always ends up shrinking everything so I ugees it all comes down to the user making the sounds based on what you're telling me.
Making things sound "big" is an artform in production. It has to do a lot with the relative volume, EQ, and effects depth of objects. Octatrack is a sampler with effects, so it's also important to note that you need to also try and sample "big" sounds from the start.
yes, but it's 1 sample voice per MIDI channel--so you wouldn't be able to play "polyphonic" information, like chords. Octatrack's area of high expertise is hits, stabs, loops, beats, etc. I usually play chords on another synth and sample them in.
All that time it took to sample...then you don't even use the good part of the sample, you could have just played that little 2 bar sample in real time on a synth.
MAKE OTHER GENRES (or let someone else do it). I don't want to hear the same bullshit edm every fucking time. I don't even bother watching. boots and hats and boots and hats and boots and hats till my fucking ears bleed.
these vids are still amazing. i just got an mkii and this is very enlightening.

the best way is to play with the machines by yourself ;-)

What's your reason for considering selling it?
i would assume steep learning curve
Probably going hungry after buying. EXPENSIVE!
I considered ditching my Octatrack for a minute but Cenk reminded me why I should keep it
Killer video!Easily the best demonstration of the Octatrack I have seen yet!
I'll be watching this over and over 😃
Mr. Dataline plays it like a pianist. I play the octatrack like a confused xylophonist who's instrument is stuck on the ceiling.
I could watch hours of this
Incredibly powerful machine!
One of those lock yourself in a room for a month machines , i bet it well worth the effort.
Love that violin sample.
What an amazing instrument and demo!
best sample choice ever!

That manual reverse fader is the golden ticket
I was expecting a workflow video to explain, parts, banks, and patterns along with their relationships.
toujours la meilleure demo
I love how you make sampling look so easy on this box. I have to say I never found it so.
But it is easy - as it can be seen

HEY JAKE
Dunno about using a drumloop in a product presentation. Obviously still a great machine.
why? this makes no sense, you know an entire genre of music evolved out of a drumloop right?
don't limit yourself

That is different. This is more like a sample pack tier drumloop, not like the amen break or something.
haha fair point
I agree 100% if you follow the conversation m8. :)

You can't use a drum loop without a sampler. So it doesn't really matter what you use one on.
Wow!!!

All that time it took to sample...then you don't even use the good part of the sample, you could have just played that little 2 bar sample in real time on a synth.
The "analog" oscillators on the octatrack sound like crap compared to old vintage synths. The tiny circuitry just doesn't cut it.
on the chance you aren't just trolling ... the OT doesn't have any oscillators, and it isn't an analog machine.
