    Much harder laying on your back with an axle in the way and greasy bits falling in your eyes. ;-)

      Yes, to make it fair I’ll be fitting new wheel cylinders to the car next weekend and will shoot another video under the car with a new cylinder and a new e-clip.

      That is how I do all my work. Lying on cement or gravel with the car to protect me from the weather.
      I am an idiot or at least a bugger for punishment.

      @@kellybreen5526 Gravel is best that way small parts don't go far when dropped. Easy to find them then (with a metal detector).

    Recently did exactly this on my Rover Mini replacing the wheel cylinders both sides. What I will say is if doing it on the car, use mole grips clamped on the hub to hold the cylinder in place, this gives you two hands to get the clip on, still rather fiddly and involved a few interesting words when it popped off numerous times but that helps a lot.
    I didn't end using the special tool i'd bought as it would have involved taking the brake pipe off and as i didn't have a replacement i didn't want to chance it.
    All the best.

      @@25johnlowe that's a great tip with regards to using a pair of mole grips, thanks for your input.

    Thanks for the video! I bought the tool from Moss... piece of junk failed on the first use. Your method got it done!

    Thanks for the video. I ditched those clips altogether and used an external snap ring. Takes 5 seconds to install/remove using the snap ring pliers.

      External circlip requires to have a 16mm i/d

    • @hawkmoon560
      @hawkmoon560 2 роки тому +1

      My circlips arrived today and I struggled to fit the 16mm i/d one to a new slave cylinder so had to fit an 18mm i/d one instead.
      Don't know if it was because the ones I bought were stainless steel rather than sprung steel. Anyway thought I would update my findings accordingly.

    Just fitted one new slave cylinder today following your guide - I did struggle as one end of the clip would keep lifting off. Utilised a 'G' clamp to assist holding one end of the clip on the cylinder and all went well! 😇 Thanks for the tutorial 👍

      @@davidrussellwilks Well on the Midget the clips are the thin spring compression type and you definitely need the small pliers with the pins. The video was very helpful just the same because I thought it would be a nut holding it in place. The clips were old so after using the pliers I had to get the rest of the clip out by lightly tapping it with a screwdriver and hammer.
      I also did not have the assembly on a bench. Nope, car on jackstands and lying on the cement.
      One day I will have a nice shop...
