I have the Bernina 1120 that I bought brand new in the late 80's and I still use it and love it. I have never regretted buying it!! I am sure you be just as pleased with yours. Thank you for the tour😊
Yes, I love it so much! And I wouldn't be able to afford a brand new Bernina either currently, so I am very happy to have a good sturdy machine that never lets me down
I have the bernina 1130 about to get it serviced at a second place to fix the special decorative stitches as they stopped working hopefully it can be fixed.
Thanks Johanna, It's always great to see your videos, makes my sewing seem less isolated. My space is smaller, and it does get claustrophobic at times, so I too have to keep re-organizing and clearing as you mentioned. Thanks again.
It such a constant struggle isn't it? And I'm sure that even those with huge spaces still struggle with overwhelm. Who knew that sewing would take up so much space :-)

I bought a Bernina 1230 in 1993 and it’s still going strong!
I also have a Janome coverstitch machine and I love it. I like the way you store the interfacing, mine are in a bit of a muddle and then I don't know which is which, so will copy your idea. The cutting table is a great storage area. Thank you for this video.

I have seen your thread holder drawer twice now and I am impressed. I do have a hint for your thread storage drawer. Add a full size piece of wood or cardboard, depending on the clearance, to the bottom of the drawer. This should help keep the nails from falling out when they loosen up.
That is an awesome idea! There are some ridges so there is probably space for a thin layer of pressed board at least
I agree with the labeling. My sewing room is far from perfect but the labeler has improved things so much

I loved watching you new sewing room tour. I bought bookshelves from Ikea, the Kallax brand too. I almost bought their kitchen cart for a cutting table, but found another one by Homegear online that was taller and wider, and came with wheels. So I bought that one instead. I haven't finished putting it together yet.
Excellent, that sounds like it will be way easier. It was a bit time consuming adding the wheels, so great that you can save time on not having to that!

:-) It's been a long road to be able to afford my current sewing machine set-up, and especially the BL was $$$. But yeah, also much better than any other serger I've used. Hope you get one someday too!
My husband bought me the same serger a couple months ago for my birthday. It’s fantastic! I was looking at cheaper models but he said no we’ll get baby lock. So glad I did. So easy with the air threading. Interesting, I was regretting not getting the combo coverstitch serger but you recommend a separate machine? I’m saving for the coverstitch machine now. I honestly didn’t know they existed or what they were for. I’m new to this and just learning how to use my serger. Fantastic use of your space btw. Your videos are very helpful. I ordered your book on coverstitching and then found you on here.
For your thread box: hot glue or wood glue might help keep loose nails from falling out. You have a lovely sewing area. Thank you for sharing.
Twenty years ago I bought a Bernina 1008 for $600 and it still is my main go-to machine. Saw this same model in a sewing center for $1300 last year.
You made the right choice with a Bernina...........I have my Mum's one that she bought in 1962!!! The machine is fine [needs service because its been a dusty area] but the cabinet is falling apart. It is a semi industrial that has cams for the different stitches and she had a stretch stitch cam put in and this machine just keeps going at 56 years old!!!
I love your cutting table Johanna - I have one but it's not on wheels and besides it sits on a carpet (actually 2 carpets) so wheeling it around isn't an option anyway. But I would love to be able to do that! I also appreciate your interfacing idea that you passed along. I have mine mostly in a clear plastic bin but I've purchased some on a bolt (weft which I use a lot) and it's had to find a spot under my table which isn't ideal. It's fun seeing someone else's sewing studio! We all do it so differently. I have the Imagine too :) but I went bonkers and bought the Babylock Coverstitch too :)
Oh I have coverstitch envy for sure! BL coverstitch machines are not readily available where I live, plus so costly. But everyone seems to think that they are the best, so you did a great purchase :-)

Thanks for sharing your sewing space, always good to get ideas. I bought the babylock Enlighten recently. Auto tension and electronic air threading - fabulous. I felt sick paying all that money for it, but just love it so much. There comes a time in life, that I think one ought to spoil themselves :)
Agree! I too was kinda shocked when I saw the price, but after spending 12 years with a crappy budget machine I was definitely in the time in life as you say where I felt it was time for something good :-)

I've just bought a bernina 334 overlooker and nightmare to thread. Just did a class on learning your overlocker and feel better but the overlocker that threads itself is worth the money for less grey hairs!

I have the same Bernina 1230. I just got it and it only had about 15 hours of sewing time on it. I really got lucky an older lady was down sizing and I found it posted on line. I got her serger too, I am set.

I had this Bernina as well, and please dont change it!!! it is great, what you get in this machine you will never get as quality in the new machines!!! (Now i have another Bernina, BUT still miss this one!!).
That is very reassuring to hear! I did ask how much a similar new Bernina would cost, and when he told me the price I was like "I'm sticking with this old one" :-) As you say, it's an excellent machine!
It is funny that you say you especially like your Bernina because of the button holes. Buttonholes are what I like the least on My 20+ year old Bernina
1080. My previous sewing machines were all Singers with clunky but very precise buttonhole attachments. I really dislike the difficult system on the Bernina. I have to make many trial ones on each project before I can be sure the garment will turn out properly.
For the interfacing, I think you're having a hard time keeping it organized because it's quite cumbersome to deal w/ a floppy accordion folder that also requires you to secure it in two corners w/ elastic.
I've seen some other sewists use a file drawer, w/ hanging folders for sorting. Anything that needs to be contained on the sides could be placed in a file pocket w/ the accordion sides, depending on the quantity of contents. Sewing patterns were also placed in the file drawers. You could use your existing Kallax and insert file boxes into the cubbies.
I love my 1230. Of all my machines, it is my favorite!!!!

for me! Now, I have a question. I love your cardboard pattern storage idea, However I couldn't figure out what they are hanging on - The metal piece with the arm that hangs from the wall. I want to do that and have just the perfect place to use it. Could you please tell me what it is and the sort of place to get it? Thank you so much! I have your new stretch sewing book on my Christmas list! I have a number of your other books too! They are all extremely easy to follow and understand! Thank you for doing this!

I definitely agree about buying the best tools for sewing that you can afford! I just bought a new Bernina 740 that I am already loving more than I ever liked my Viking, also not a cheap brand, but hands down the Bernina is superior, This was an even bigger purchase for me since I have a ton of feet for the Viking and the 740 came with 5 feet. I will be slowly adding the ones I like the best. I also have Kai scissors and am amazed at how long they stay sharp. I have the in a dressmaker size and in 5" and the curved 5" well worth buying. I have a dedicated sewing room and my dh made me a 5'x8' cutting table. I splurged on the cutting mat. All of these make my sewing experience so much easier . My next purchase is that Babylock Imagine! It was already on my list when I saw your video. One major purchase this year though!
I agree about the Bernina vs Viking (a former Swedish made brand). The vintage Vikings were fantastic, but today not so much. And I know you will love the Imagine!
I have a vintage Viking and I used it for heavy top stitching thread. I don't need it anymore since the Bernina handles it perfectly and a lot easier to use to be honest. I am not really a vintage machine person I've discovered.

To secure the nails in your thread storage box, just add a drop of Super Glue under the head of a nail so it won't fall out.

For thread organizing: if the nails keep falling out, try gluing golf tees upside down.
Love my Babylock Evolution! But I really wish I had bought two machines. One coverstitch and one overlocker (serger).

The Bernina 1230 was my 3rd Bernina and I trade it in for the 1630. Today I wish I kept it and just bought the 1630.

Aha, thank you for correcting me. I had the feeling I was talking out of my hat on this one! I do hope that this feature becomes more prevalent in sergers, makes things so much easier!
I'm pretty sure I read that Baby Lock had a patent on their automatic air threading technology.
JUKI M0 1000 serger also has the air threading technology
