I stopped sewing because it was a pain dragging things out and having to put it away. Well after watching your videos I made a sewing corner in my dinning room. I moved my dinning table into one end of the living room. It made the living room smaller, but we do not have company like we use to and the kids are out of the house. Thanks for the new ideas. ❤
I'm a dining room quilter, but I live alone (widowed empty nester). So I just eat in the kitchen! The built in buffet in there is the perfect height for cutting and fits a mat like it was designed for it! I have a couple of rolling carts for supplies and tools. It only takes about 15 min to put everything away - including sweeping the floor. You do what you have to! Your space is very calm and I love your big closed storage piece.
You have motivated me to reorganize my sewing room. I took all my fabric from totes and put them into drawers today. I feel so much better knowing I can see all my fabrics. I had more in my stash than I thought. Thank you Nikki for all the tips ❤
Beside being visually pleasing, the fabric remains in its original state & you can put dates & amt on a scrap of paper inside the folds ,which helps when your ready to sew.
Happy to see you back and settled in your new space. Two of my children are in the military and I have helped them move a few times and doing it again in October. Your videos over the last 6 months inspired me. I bought my first sewing machine last week and have set up in part of the living room. This video couldn't have come at a better time. I will be getting a Husky desk and lamp directly. And will hunt a second hand dresser for the cutting station. Thank you for the tips on organizing a small space for my future sewing enjoyment. 🌈❤️🌎✌️
Thank you for your tips & ideas for sewing in a small space. I sew in a box room. But it's working for me. Finding what works is a process we need to go through. ❤
Hello. I too have a very small craft space. We live in a tiny 1730s cottage in Kent, England and my sewing space is in the corner of the sitting room. We’re having an all glass garden room fitted soon so will be taking on board your hints and tips as want to make the most of my new space. Won’t be able to have shelving of course but will look into putting more shelves up in our spare/cat bedroom to use for storage. At least I will have lots of light as our sitting room has no windows at all. Hope to get a dining room table once garden room is finished so can use that for cutting. I currently use the floor for cutting. Hopefully I will do much more sewing once I have more space/light. Thank you for your advice. Lesley x.
I have been AGONIZING over sewing tables because everything seems to have bad reviews. Either the tables fall apart or they shake. I am so glad I found your video. I LOVE that Husky table. Thank you for sharing!
I find the small lifetime table great for cutting and they are foldable (out of the way when finished cutting) and have adjustable height. The tables are durable, inexpensive and available at Costco or BJs Warehouse Clubs
Thanks for sharing your space! It’s great! My machine came with a very sturdy table, but I wanted work space for wool appliqué. I found an old Hoosier cabinet with a butcher block pull out top. I did refinish the cabinets and use the shelves to store books and wool in large glass canisters. The drawers below hold other sewing necessities. Very cozy! ❤🪡🧵
Thanks to you i have found a craft area in my own house. I have a long narrow guest room that became a dumping ground to hide stuff from my toddler. The room has a window in the middle, so thanks to your inspiration, i divided my room in two, using the wardrobe as a divider. When you walk into the room it now looks like a modestly sized bedroom but behind the wardrobe out of sight is my little haven, ironing space, storage. I call it Narnia. 😂 I saw an ironing solution on just get it done quilting channel. I use a tall narrow shelf with a small board on top. It is sturdy and fits perfectly, because it is a shelf, i can store my iton, spray and rulers and thread on it. Perfect. Thanks for the inspo.
I am fortunate to have a large sewing room but the same holds true. Keep stuff in drawers. I have shelves of fabric (and I mean shelves 😂) and it makes thing chaotic. I am going to cover them with some sort of cover. The advantage to a small space is you only buy what you need. The large space you tend to buy way more.
I have a large space also in our new retirement home. I am able to have 6 machines set up all the time in it. But, I did order her shelves and another Ott light. She is so clever. I have an older version of her Janome machine too.
I just saw that work bench last weekend and thought what a wonderful sewing desk it would make. Its refreshing to hear someone talk about reducing visual clutter that actually understands the concept! I'll probably move in about 6 to 8 months and will be using an old wall unit/entertainment center for my sewing center. Setting up a cutting table only takes a couple of minutes and with garment sewing, I do it all at the beginning.
Kinda wish you gave us a walking tour of your cute space. I’m a visual person, and love to see how those with small sewing rooms do their spaces. Also, I know quilters may need more space. Maybe even a professional seamstress that requires mannequins, dress fitting spaces & etc…. I have a small space with only 1 empty wall, as 1 wall has the doorway into room. The 3rd wall is a giant opening like window to below living room, then the 4th wall is a French door and window size French door that leads to the outdoors , upstairs deck, which is big. The French doors are encased with built ins book shelves and bottom storage, which is great but not enough storage. It’s a small room, but full of light and just so cute. Thanks for showing us yours.
Your video popped up in my feed and I’m so grateful. You have a wonderful soothing voice. I could listen to you all day. Also, love your table. I currently sew in an old kitchen table and is very wonky. Thanks for the tips!
This video reminded me of my mom and how little space she had and yet she sewed most of her clothes and also for my sister and I. I am blessed with more space and I’ll be more thankful and USE it more. I get discouraged easily. I found your channel a week ago and picked up your doll pattern and let”s see if I can be more productive. Thank you.
OMG thank you SO much!. I am about to change my sewing/craft room to a different room in the house so this was very helpful. Especially the idea of using a dresser for a cutting table! We have an old dining table I was going to use but was not looking forward to trying to find a place for it, and it seems wobbly. I am going to go to a thrift store and find an old dresser and paint it. Thanks for the idea, brilliant!
Really neat what you did with that odd, long space, and made it work great for you :) It’s bright, and cheerful too! I’m claustrophobic so I need more of a square space, which I have. My sewing room in small, but it about as wide, as it is long.
During lockdown I started embroidering and bought a headlamp on Amazon. I bought two so when one needed to be charged I had another ready to go and I could embroider anywhere
I invested in two rolling carts this year that have helped to corral regular supplies for crafting. I keep a small "button" cart near my machine desk, as well. These are nice mobile options for a small space. I also store some of my fabric in a closet. My main craft area is a small bedroom with limited space. Using clear bins on top of a bookcase and desk help keep some storage out of the work area. Thank you for sharing your tips;)
In my last three homes had purpose built, sewing rooms to my specifications and I love them and even then I’ve after working in them I had to make changes. I am now in a small villa and I purchased this one site unseen. But I knew the floor plan and the lanai actually had been incorporated into the house. It has real windows insulation air conditioning heating. It’s only 6 1/2 feet deep and 27 feet long. At one end is the laundry room Laundry closet and another end is my cupboards for fabric. I measured every square inch of this room and managed to squeeze in what I needed and I’m getting ready to do my first blog and it’s going to start with my TT sewing room. Display I am lacking storage so more than I would like, but I so every day.
Thanks for sharing your new space. I've just recently found your channel. I am blessed to have a "Hoosier" cabinet. It was the only kitchen space my granny Cook had for a while. The top of the lower section slides out to give more counter space. I have a dresser for storage. For cutting, I am blessed to have a desk that has four leaves and pulls out to about 83". I remember it in our home back in 1968. Back then, it had folding dining chairs. They pinched fingers horribly if one wasn't careful folding and owning them. I also have a large cutting mat that fits on it. So when not needed, it condenses into a small desk with two small drawers. It's great as I haven't had a dedicated craft area in any of my apartments.
I loved seeing your sewing space!!❤❤ (and I just visited your etsy and couldn't resist buying a couple things.)😁 I've had a variety of sewing spaces thru the years as well; currently have a 10x10' room and it's just right. I agree with minimizing the visual clutter!! It helps a lot to maintain and feeling of calm when I sew.
Love your cozy sewing space! You have great tips and I liked how you placed your ironing board in a narrow space yet very functional. I love to sew & do paper crafts and I also have two Husky adjustable workbench, 46" for sewing & 62" for papercrafts/mix media. I love the style and function in both of my space, especially the height adjustment. My sewing room is separate from my craft space and is in a small multipurpose room that has limited space. I also purchased a Norden gate leg table from Ikea to use as a cutting table. I'm short, so the Norden table height works well for me. The table folds down to only 10" depth when not in use, but extends out to 35" to 60". In addition, the table has 6 deep, but narrow drawers for addition storage. The table is well built and was reasonably priced before Covid, not sure on current price. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoy your UA-cam content and look forward to your next video!
I debated whether to convert a closet to an office or sewing area. Because I’m a Christian, I just need a space for quiet time, plus I’m a graphic designer so the office was a must. But I like sewing too, so I’m thinking of using the dining table since we use our large island for meals. I need to wait until our Jr HS son leaves for college 😅 Thank you for the tips and I’m a new subscriber 😊
I am getting ready to redo my sewing room. I have a six needle embroidery machine, a quilting sewing machine with a large fold out table, and my old sewing machine that also holds my serger. I am looking to replace the cabinet for the old machine and serger, and I am thinking the husky workbench will be perfect. Thanks so much for this video.
I understand, most of us have had to adjust our sew spaces over the years. You have found a way to make available space work for you. I prefer closed spaces too; all that stuff on way collects dust and looks more like clutter than organization. Thank you!
Hi. I have a small house and sew in my living room. I have desk from the thrift store for one and an actual old singer machine built in the cabinet from the thrift store I sit my machine on top. My little serger is on a small rolling desk in my bedroom. I use a white folding table as a cutting table as I do not have a dining room table anymore. I do love my little set up and my downsized home is best. Thank you for the video.
as a teenager interested in sewing and art I use my room desk as homework and art and a dewing machine in the corner of my living room and our dining table is right next to so I cut on that and I need to try and organise it better so its not crammed and everywhere
I have the husky table and I like it. I bought mine at Home Depot a couple of years ago and it was on sale at the time. So I paid significantly less than Amazons price today (10-10-23). The only drawback for me is that it is only 24 inches from front to back. I bought the one that is 52 inches left to right. The 24 is a bit smaller than I wanted. However, I may try to make a larger top for it. I also purchased a motorized desk for my cover stitch machine at Office Depot/Office Max. I forget. I love the ability to adjust the height. I have my sewing area in the basement and lighting is a problem. I’m working on that issue.
Glad to see you back, I have missed seeing your videos. My husband made me a "murphy" ironing board, it is wonderful. It is only seen by me in my sewing room.
I have a small sewing room too and use a eheely chair. One day i was sitting on it snd turned sround to skim over to my healing mat when oops, the wheels shifted under me and I almost broke my knee. It was so painful 😢. So be careful won't you. 🥰 Iris
my sewing space is at the end of a hallway maybe 10 feet long? The lucky part of it is it has a built in shelf at one end and a lower cubby hole for rolling carts. I love the husky desk, I wish it would fit in my space.
Love, love all of your videos which are so full of usable tips and so inspiring. Thank you for this particular video as I'm just taking over the dining room for my daughter's and my sewing room. I love the look and idea of the Husky sewing table as I'm 6' tall and my daughter is not yet 5' - we can adjust the table accordingly. Question. I've sewn everything, including many floor length, lined drapes on my Janome machine with it sitting on top of our dining table rather than set down in a proper sewing cabinet. With all the sewing you do, did you ever sew with your machine set down flush in a sewing cabinet specific table? Many quilters in my beginners class tell me they love their machines inset flush, but I kind of prefer the free standing machine like you have yours ... and I can always put the little extension table on my machine that came with it. Thanks for your input before I purchase a table!!
Hi there! I’ve sewn with my machine inset, though I understand why some people prefer it. The husky table being adjustable is it’s best feature and helps you have good posture even without the machine being inset!
I have always had a prejudice that fabric and notions do best if protected from the sun, dust, and now we know CFL lights; so in drawers and non translucent boxes. I have had larger to shared spaces and have found that while they can be pretty, colors, fabrics, and eye catching goodies are distracting; it only gets more so in larger spaces. In the past 10 years or so, I have come to be gifted portions of a couple of stashes with items upto decades old. Those items protected from sun, dust, and damp are still good even though some date back into the 1950's, maybe 1940's. - I have become an even stauncher advocate of protecting textiles from sun, light, dust, and damp which means they do not become wall displays.
Yes, I totally agree with you! Protecting the fabric is something I didn't even talk about in the video, so I'm so glad you brought it up here in the comments!
Im not sure what your current space is like, you move so much but i saw another creator make a hanging organiser for rulers. Using a hanger as the top and flat fabric pockets for various sized rulers. I thought it was practical and easy to make for an experienced sewer. It might be a solution for you. It was a Canadian garment maker, Catherine sews.
Thank you for sharing! My sewing room is a tiny corner of my bedroom. I’m wondering what brand your chair is, my current chair no longer works for height adjustment and I’m looking for a small footprint. Thank you again, I enjoy your videos. 😊
New subscriber😊. I liked your Bible cover video as well. What a great idea, now I have another project for my to do list. I am making a new sewing area in my home yesterday, today and most likely another day or two for my new sewing area consists of two spots and I am running back and forth getting some great exercise and that is one reason I am doing it this way so I get more movement in my sewing days. I 🙏 you enjoy your new home, community and you won't have to move soon.
Do you have a video on your cutting and storage table? I am also a military spouse. It seems so much easier to re-purpose a dresser. It’s likely to break during a move any tips or tricks would be so much appreciated!
Hi there! I do have a blog post on it: www.pincutsewstudio.com/blog/2019/9/4/diy-cutting-table-from-a-secondhand-dresser For moving, we remove the larger top and put the original top back on to make it easier. It’s very heavy, so the movers don’t love it 😆
I went with my husband to get a new hose. While we were there I wanted to just look at the Husky table, he got me one. ❤ I'm moving my things into the drawers and I'm looking for the drawer trays to organize my threads. Which ones did you use? Thanks in advance.
Thanks, I watch one of your videos and have been hooked ever since. I have made several jar cozies for the 4th of July and just received the batting I needed for the oven mitts to make for Christmas gifts. So many ideas to try and having a blast. Thank you ❤ @@PinCutSew
Good tips! Thanks for sharing. I also watched a video from Karen Brown of Just Get It Done Quilts, on how to organize a small space. She also had some useful tips. By the way.....which model sewing machine is that behind you? Looks like a Janome Memory Craft????? If so, good choice. As a former military member, I know the joys of moving often. Good luck in your new assignment.
My sewing room also serves as a guest room so we have a bed where the head is in the bay window so it's not sticking out very far. I have three dressers for storing my fabric, cross-stitch and yarn supplies. In my closet I have open PVC shelves that I'm tolerating for the time being. My biggest problem is my cutting surface. I got one of those folding craft/cutting tables from JoAnn's where the legs support the leaves. I don't like it at all. It's unstable and the leaves aren't flush with the center. I really like your cutting table. Is the top attached or removeable? Thanks for sharing these ideas!
I love your closed cabinet storage with the cutting surface on top. How do you organize the inside? Do you use bins? My sewing area is half of our guest bedroom. My husband put in a long folding table so I’d have somewhere to put my sewing machine and large cutting mat. All of my sewing doo dads are in a large box top….😳 . There are 3 bins under my table with fabric, plus other stuff that has nowhere else to go, so it’s really stuffed under there. I’m still trying to figure out what to put on the wall that will help reduce all the clutter. Thanks for your video!😊…..Brenda
@@PinCutSew Thank you for that extra video. I use the Marie Kondo method for our clothes, and am not sure why I never thought of it for my fabric stash!🧐😉
I don’t know the length off hand, but it long enough for both my machine and serger! I sew with it a little raised up and I don’t have the back pain I had before. My mom is shorter and also uses it and loves it!
I have that table you use for sewing (but I’m using it for cutting) and I have to ask where you got your inserts! So hard to find. Military wife here too and am blessed with a big sewing room this house. One more year here. 9 years married and 4 moves under our belt together.
That’s so great 🤗
I sew in a small area in my bedroom. It works fine for me. I am sewing on a old computer desk. The desk has a storage area on the side of it.
I'm a dining room quilter, but I live alone (widowed empty nester). So I just eat in the kitchen! It only takes about 15 min to put everything away - including sweeping the floor. You do what you have to! Your space is very calm and I love your big closed storage piece.
I think it looks really nice and doesn't look that small, so organized and clean!!
I challenge myself to use up the fabric I have before I buy new. Makes me very creative and inventive, too.
I love, love, love my husky table!! I've been wanting one for a few years and finally received one for Christmas. The best table for crafting. :)
I'm retired AF and I moved 7 times in 20 years. Thanks for the video!

as a teenager interested in sewing and art I use my room desk as homework and art and a dewing machine in the corner of my living room and our dining table is right next to so I cut on that and I need to try and organise it better so its not crammed and everywhere
Murphy ironing board, I love it 😄
I could use one of those! You’ve got a thoughtful husband!
Great idea!
Such good ideas that are very important
lucky the person who has a sewing room, as a military family , moving ofteh, my sewing room has been mostly my bed room and sometime my closet.
I do feel lucky to have a space!
I love my horn cabinet ❤
Excellent video and tips. I have a tiny bedroom that was my daughters. I don’t know where to begin
I have a small sewing room too and use a eheely chair. One day i was sitting on it snd turned sround to skim over to my healing mat when oops, the wheels shifted under me and I almost broke my knee. It was so painful 😢. So be careful won't you. 🥰 Iris
Eek! I have recently switched to a stool, much better 👍🏻
my sewing space is at the end of a hallway maybe 10 feet long?
Love your space
WELCOME TO THE AREA! 💙 I'm in Murfreesboro, little south of Nashville. Fort Campbell I assume? Anyway, I hope you get to stay put for a bit. 😁💙
We're at Fort Knox! Living in Louisville :)
I appreciate this video. Found many useful tips. Thank you!
Like your tips. Thank you
Nice tips! Thanks
Hi there! I do have a blog post on it: www.pincutsewstudio.com/blog/2019/9/4/diy-cutting-table-from-a-secondhand-dresser
For moving, we remove the larger top and put the original top back on to make it easier. It’s very heavy, so the movers don’t love it 😆
Great tips, thank you!
I went with my husband to get a new hose. While we were there I wanted to just look at the Husky table, he got me one. ❤ I'm moving my things into the drawers and I'm looking for the drawer trays to organize my threads. Which ones did you use? Thanks in advance.
Hooray! I got mine in the Target dollar spot. You just have to find some shallow enough!
Thanks, I watch one of your videos and have been hooked ever since. I have made several jar cozies for the 4th of July and just received the batting I needed for the oven mitts to make for Christmas gifts. So many ideas to try and having a blast. Thank you ❤ @@PinCutSew
Light! I'm getting cataracts and can't sew on black. I have 6 lights in my sewing space. Also, rolling storage carts are great.
I use a camping style head lamp thing when I have to switch anything dark (especially at night!)
Where did you get this Husky Desk? Thank you for the video-great ideas! 👵🏻😇🥰💗
Home Depot 🙌🏻
I think my mom uses an over the door file folder hanger for her rulers.
Smart!
Yes it is a Janome and I love it!! I bought it this year and couldn’t be happier.
The top comes off! Every time we move (we’re military), we take it off and put the old one back on so it fits through the door haha.
I store things inside by "filing" them rather than stacking! You can see what I mean in this video: ua-cam.com/video/cnExkiEWN_M/v-deo.html
@@PinCutSew Thank you for that extra video. I use the Marie Kondo method for our clothes, and am not sure why I never thought of it for my fabric stash!🧐😉
Hi Nik Nik. Have you considered doing personal consulting?
You mean help people get rid of their clutter?? That would be a dreamy job, haha.
I’m here in ky too ! We are also military. Great job on your room. Are you at Knox ?
Hi! Yes but we live in Louisville 👍🏻
I’m military spouse in nc too that’s crazy ❤
Small world! We actually just moved to Kentucky, NC is where we came from :)
Hello, I noticed your Husky table behind you - what length is it, is it comfortable to sew with at the lowest height, and how do you like it??
I don’t know the length off hand, but it long enough for both my machine and serger! I sew with it a little raised up and I don’t have the back pain I had before. My mom is shorter and also uses it and loves it!
Did you link the light that goes around your neck? I saw various Ott lights but I didn't see the neck light.
I knew I forgot something! Here it is: amzn.to/3Kg8n6j
I got the pink one 😄
I ordered a blue one.
It will be great for sewing, knitting and reading. It will also be great light for splinter removal 😂 which I need fairly often.
@@sherriheare8425 Haha! I use mine constantly, but I've yet to remove a splinter with it 🤣
It's a great idea though!
A wish I could! That would be too heavy as it’s on second floor. 🫤
i lve in apt for my sewing i love to sew hugs from pam
I have that table you use for sewing (but I’m using it for cutting) and I have to ask where you got your inserts! So hard to find.
Military wife here too and am blessed with a big sewing room this house. One more year here. 9 years married and 4 moves under our belt together.
They were in the target dollar spot one year, and they’re shallower than most! They were marketed as makeup dividers.
My sewing room is also my guestroom. So, I want to keep my sewing tools put away.
Where to buy a desk like yours
The one the sewing machines are on? It’s a Husky desk! I got it at Home Depot 👍🏻
Black thread, black fabric = use a black light
Ooh, great tip, I never knew!
if you sew/quilt you need a large sewing space
Not necessarily! I've been in my tiny space for 9 months and it's working out great :)
