  • Starting the cosmetic restoration on the cheap CTS-V. A little paint and elbow grease and this car is already starting to come around. Mechanical issues continue to pop up but we'll tackle those as well! More to come!

    Had a 2005. Totaled it at 178,000 miles (not my fault). Damn the luck, now I have to buy a 2010. Finally found a manual transmission in Massachusetts. Flew up and drove it back to Dallas. Finally sold it with 208,000 miles. Still redlining. No drag racing.
    Those were excellent cars. I never modified anything. Never replaced anything on either, which includes the clutches, other than the rear shocks twice on the 2010. They had a bad habit of leaking.
    Had the 2010 to 170. It was a one way concrete bridge across the water so only the fishermen below the bridge were at risk.
    I looked to buy a Gen 3 but could not get past the automatic transmission. I do not trust GM and automatic transmissions. They also take all the fun out of driving.
    I now drive a manual Z06/Z07. Found this one in Kansas, not far from Dorothy. The new CT5 Blackwing V will be tempting.

    Hey Chris. Nice channel. I am from NH too. I have a better way to remove pine sap from the paint! use Hand sani gel. Type with alcohol. pump some on the sap, give it a min and wipe off with a terry cloth. Its much cleaner and easier and cheaper!

    tip on the wheels. when the clear is failing like that, use aircraft stripper to chemically remove the failing clear coat, usually the aluminum underneath is pretty good. if not polish up the raw aluminum and re-clear with a good 2k clear... you'll save hrs in sanding. keep up the good work.

      Molloy
      I have a set of black V rims w failing clear etc.
      How long do I let the remover sit on there?
      Will that get me to bare rim?
      Can I use bondo on the rim or something else?
      Thanks for your input…I’m handy so I’m sure it’ll be perfect when I’m done but I’d be a fool not to ask tips from you if you know.

    • @malloymotorsports780
      @malloymotorsports780 2 роки тому +1

      @@chrisreynolds2410 you let the remover sit for 15- 30 mins. wrapping the wheel in the black trash bag will help accelerate the stripping process, NOTE!! any paint under the clear will get removed as well. this process that I'm rereferring to works very well if it's a bare alumium wheel that has been clear coated. if you want remove everything, including the actual color, this method works great too.

    As a fellow owner of a CTS-V, check the clamp for the powersteering hoses by the rack. If the car was from the northern states the salt will have corroded under the clamp and compromised the hoses/lines. Sweet V! Nice work!

I use a folding canopy that can help a ton FYI. I've used DupliColor and Eastwood 2K clear 'rattle cans' to paint wheels and body panels and they can come out just like a paint gun.
