I bought Mosin Nagants for $39 back in the early '90s, and even found a Westinghouse M91 at a show and paid $50 for it. I also bought a few milled NIB and full of grease Norinco SKS rifles for $125.00, complete with chest rigs and tool pouches. I can remember pallets of steel core Chinese 7.62x39 being wheeled out on the floor of the shows for $80 per 1440 round case too.

I just bought a Turkish Mauser, Last year an SKS and the previous year an M1- Carbine. I’m very pleased with the specially the Mauser, it is in a great condition.I have been looking for a Springfield 1903, but is impossible to find one at a good price.
I got my first SKS 21 years ago, my dad payed $100 and we got a sling, cleaning kit w/ rod and about 100rds of ammo. The stock on Eric's SKS is gorgeous!
Me... I first wanted a representation of American history, (still lacking a rifled cap and ball and a smoothbore flintlock but have a Trapdoor, Krag, 1903, M1917, Garand, M1 Carbine, M1A for M14 and of course an AR for M16), and then I went to World War II, then World War I, and now I have been going for various countries. I am quite proud of my German collection so far, especially the pistols (my Holy Grails are my G43 and Kriegsmarine Mauser 1934 pistol (which I have a short video on)). Great video.

Milsurp Mike Channel I have an 1861 Springfield and 1842. I actually prefer shooting the 42.
My Norinco SKS is definitely one gun that I'll never ever sell. That thing is a work-horse for hunting and just an all-around great firearm. I modified mine however I kept all the old hardware (wooden stock, receiver cover, etc..) so I can always put it back into its original form.
Gotta love old military weapons, I have a byf K98 mauser that my great grandfather brought back from Germany... very cool stuff to look at!
my grandma has got 2 weapons from ww2 at home, One Kar98K she took during the German soldiers surrendering ans laying down their arms.
And a Stg44 her uncle illegaly had hidden when he was ordered to lay doen his weapons.
Both in pretty good condition, some use marks on them but overal good schape.
And they've got a story behind them.

you can get Russian sks' here in Canada at cabelas for 200$ canadian and it's still packed in cosmoline. Basically a brand new 70 year old gun.

@@bigbaby8533 It is a sound purchase. Always heard about the smoothness of Mauser actions. I love my Mosin, but there is no comparison. The M48 is one of the best value rifles.

@@jaydenstauffer3638 Stopped in just to add what you already have done. You can get more "history" per gun with the 24/47's, especially if they're one of the rebuilt FN m24's as opposed to the Yugo m24's.
I'll start off by saying that this is the USA. If you want to be a pattern collector and own a dozen of each type of rifle that's your right. But I do want to say something else. If any kind of military surplus rifle comes into a LGS near me, I have to get in my car and drive like mad to get it before it's sold (the staff know me). I'm not talking anything remotely as rare as a Rasheed. Even a '98 Mauser, M1 Garand, '03 Springfield, the list goes on. I cannot find them locally. I do believe that the extent to which some people are pattern collectors is preventing current and maybe future generations from being able to enjoy some of these surplus rifles. I've seen comments before from people saying today's generations don't appreciate the classic rifles and all they want is the latest. I think that's not the whole truth. I think for a lot of folks they can't find these classic firearms or when they do they are so expensive that they cannot afford to purchase those firearms.
+Murphy82nd Get an 03 Curio and Relics license from the government and buy them direct from Southern Ohio Gun Distributors. The license is easy as pie to get from Uncle Sam, costs $30 for 3 years and the guns get shipped directly to you without a background check because you have a collectors firearms license. I got mine in 20 days, it was apiece of cake!
+Murphy82nd Agree whole heartedly. I've been looking for an affordable Krag or '03 for 15 years. I even started looking into sporterized ones. Mine will not sit on a shelf. They will be shot. I'd really like a 25-06 SPR1903. Why? Because this is America and I wanna bust varmints with a hot-rodded '03. I'm silly like that. I just wish these bored suburbanites would quit driving the price of everything up. Buy a Corvette and nail a Hooters girl, just stop buying up all the guns... ya middle-aged douchebags.
I can't even find a mosin nagant locally. This has definitely been my experience as well. And I live in the gun friendly state of NC

People come in with them for sale all the time, but you can't find them because I don't put them out for sale. I take them home. You wouldn't believe how many people inherit a valuable classic and have no clue what it is. When Billy Bob Dumb Fuck comes in and sells me a matching K98 or mint 1903 for $40, I can't bring myself to put it on the sales floor. Sorry, not sorry.
I purchased a Norinko SKS just like that one with the Chinese jungle stock upper hand guard in early 2018 for $375 from a guy who bought it new in the early 90’s and only put 10 rounds through it. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that rifle, even more than my Norinko Mak90 in mint condition.

I remember a few years ago here in Canada a dealer had a sale on where if you bought two cases of 7.62x39 (3000 rounds) you got a few new Norinco SKS
I think this is the first time that American gun owners want to move to Canada
Note: In Canada, we can't convert the SKS to bullpup. For some strange reason, that is Prohibited. Great Video guys. (Libertarian Politician, gun guy, car guy, photographer, ninja -James Walper)

I too like the old service rifles. So far I have a couple of K31s, a K11, Mk3 Enfield, L42A1 sniper rifle, Mosin 91/30, Polish M44 and of course an SKS. Thanks for the great video, really enjoyed your presentation. Keep up the good work!

So im a Pattern Collector of Mosin Nagants. It was the first rifle i ever bought when i turned 18. I fired it and fell in love with the cartridge and the rifle. Getting the Swedish version with the PU scope was probably the hardest so far to get ahold of.

Right now, in Switzerland, a brand new unissed K31 is worth at least $1000 to $1100.
In recent years, the military production of GP11 ammunitions has stopped; however, there are plenty in reserve, but the stock will dry up someday.
Last year at a gun show, a W+F prototype of a semi-automatic version of a K31 was sold around $17,000 because of its collectivity.
Now, when it comes to Swiss pistol, a SIG P-210 from 1949 in mint conditions is worth between $2,500 to $3,000.
Yes, surplus firearms are fun to collect, it's addicting and may hurt someone's wallet, but it's an investment for the future.

Love milsurps, love the history, love the challenge of shooting open sights. MAC and IV8888's early videos on the K31 are the reason I found one. Then my Garand and M1 Carbine, and Swedish Mauser. Like you guys said, it can be addicting, and you need to buy intelligently. I definitely need something in 303 British next :) Looking forward to more milsurp videos
I purchased a 1937 Mosin 9130 pu, with matching numbers 3 years ago and paid $100.00, this rifle today would go for over $800.00 and not be in as Good condition, very happy with this rifle
We can get SKS easily but at the same time we got this damn 5 round mag limit on all centerfire weapons.
We can't get Steyr Augs and AKs either because, you know, "EVIL"...
+Guillaume Doriat Yeah, that's the major downer to Canadian gun laws. While you guys do get some things we don't, you have crazy restrictions on most of them. We certainly have a wider variety of firearms available to us in the States, but you always desire what you can't have... which is why I want a QBZ-95. Back when you guys had Tavors and we didn't, I was going nuts.
+Military Arms Channel At this point we are buying .50 Beowulf mags just because we can stick 15 5.56x45 in them. Probably going to grab a few when I buy a Type97 for Christmas.
+Military Arms Channel Some of our guns, labelled as "Non-Restricted" allow us to have most (definitely not all though haha) of the freedoms that you guys have with your rifles. Fortunately the SKS, the Vz.58, the QBZ, and the M14 are all commonly available firearms that are in the non-restricted class. We can also get norinco 7.62x54R FMJ BT new production at milsurp prices.
Don't get me wrong, I wish we had your laws, but if you saw the price I payed for a beautiful SKS with mostly matching numbers, you'd flip a brick. Or the prices for M14s, they've gone up to like $650, which is pretty darn high.

I messed up a few years back with a immaculate SVT-40 for $575 I think it was. Went home and researched and they were going $1200-$1600.I could kick myself in the butt for that. Another thing was it was a war bring back with no import stamps. I did go back to get it and it was gone of course.

Mosins are just too overplayed, and as mentioned in the video are in no short supply, these are things you want to get like RIGHT NOW before they hike up in price. Besides those swiss guns shoot circles around mosins.

Im 33 now. I remember when I was around 15 years old going down to Moss Pawn Shop with my Dad and picking out a Mosin Nagant for about $69 and a Lee Enfield for $89. I've still got them Both (in storage). I've been living in China now for over 6 years now. I really cant wait to get back state side so I can go shooting again.

Norinco sks's are drying up in canada now. And the QBZ has just horrible ergonomics. And the Norinco m14 is hit and miss.
Why no SVT-40 on the table?
+Plasticman SVT-40's are increasingly hard to find down here.
SVTs are like $300 in Canada, and a good $1,200 here (if you can find one)... If I'm not mistaken, the US Gvt sold the blueprints of the M14 to the Chinese after we started using the M16 early in the war with Vietnam... I always heard the Norinco M14 was a really good rifle. I never shot one tho...
+Plasticman But we do still get prime-grade Russian SKS' for $200. Cabela's Canada had Select grade laminate stock Russian SKS' for sale at that price, but normally they are still only $300!!

+Joey P it's the Taiwanese that received the blueprints and toolings from the US Govt and licensed make the M14 in Taiwan, not sure about the Chinese but since they're so good in knocking off stuffs it's just required a few specimens to evaluate it themselves if they can't obtain any blueprints or data, and they'll turned out a clone on their own
I'm a huge fan of both channels, but man, Eric hates having to wait to talk. Constantly going "uh huh" and "yep"... nodding his head yes, and his facial expressions. Even when he's doing gripes with Chad you can see it...but this one was really bad lol.
If I could only have one Mil-surp rifle, it would be a Finnish M39. Eric's video made me love that rifle.

Great discussion on military surplus firearms. Having shot a few, not nearly as many as you guys, the K31 and Finish M39 are among those rifles that are great to collect and shoot.

I agree, collecting mil-surp old guns is very addicting, it is sad that I only have two, a luger and a Mosin, but I am looking for more.
Oh boy this video hit home , I was a very young boy in the 1960's and purchased the rifle of my dreams ,which was an 303 Enfield from the Spiegel catalog for the balance of my B of A savings acct. which was a total of $12 , I wish I would have bought all they had because they are worth more than any other investment I could have made at that time .
Factory refurbished SKS( Soviet) new $169. Norinco SKS were $150 new, real new. In Canada , tokarevs are $169. Polytech-norinco m14 clones are $500. New. But we pay nearly 30-40% higher on handguns and other firearms. Ammo, like .22 lr was in stock during your ammo shortage.

My first milsurp was a Romanian M-44 in a pawn shop. I got it because I thought it looked different. And it was pretty cheap. Great shooter.
Yall ain't lying about the addiction. I got my first Enfield two weeks out of the army an within two months I now have two Enfield a yugo 24/47 mauser a 6.5 and 7.35 Italian carcano and looking for more mausers and a Springfield 1903. The mausers are my favorite of all the milsurp rifles
I just picked up a mosin nagant m91/59 at my local gun shop for 150 dollars and its in great condition the bluing is almost perfect except for a little bit of rust around the rear sight only complaint is that it came in an ati montycarlo stock. I picked it up because I watched Eric's videos on the mosin and decided I needed one

I love older and surplus guns. Just having a peice of history is a huge cool factor. I have an old mauser that's been in my family for like 60 years. It's got engraving and shit on it and got really taken care of and it's my favorite gun I own.

I remember around 10 years ago Mosins were going for around $40, Mausers and Enfields were $100-$150, Makarovs were $100, Walther P1s were $150, Nagant revolvers were $70, buy 'em while you can.

The last Mil-Surp rifle I bought was a Turkish Mauser made in 1940. The pride of my collection, however, is my Webley Mk. VI (manufactured in 1917) that I got 2 years ago for my birthday.
I am an amateur on gun knowledge and shooting, but I really love to get out to the range with different guns and just enjoy them. I bought my first handgun in December of 2015, and I now have a dozen or so, plus several Henrys and a few bolt actions and 3 semi-autos, including my most expensive (and most powerful!), a Barrett M82A1. They were all bought new. I just recently purchased my first milsurp (as I am pretty sure I will end up picking up "a few" more!) It's an oddball, with ammo being very scarce (the big downfall of the whole thing). But I just had to have it because it looks so cool and watching videos of people shooting it gets me excited about it. It's a VZ52 rifle (Czech). It has a 1955 manufacturing date stamp. The outer butt plate is missing, plus I ordered a replacement handguard retainer, as the release buttons on either side are also missing! I might find that a few more parts might need replacing as well. Hopefully, if so, I can find them! But again, I am excited about my purchase and hope that with some acquired knowledge (and patience!), and most likely some gunsmithing service, I will have a good functioning rifle that I can truly enjoy!
Let's hope and pray that some ammo manufacturers out there will start producing the 7.62x45 (and preferably non-corrosive) so they won't be so hard to come by!

value of some of these rifles is the cheap ammo available. Stock up on the ammo it will dry up. The MH can be reloaded with 24ga shotgun brass for $1 each (brass only , Midway). MH 577/450 dies are available and bullet molds. Short lever MH are more desirable. Shooting a 500gr bullet is a lot of fun.
I bought myself a Yugoslavian M48 Mauser a few months ago, and bought a Nagant Revolver for Christmas. Stock up on Milsurp while you can, because the days of cheap stuff is just about gone.
My only milsurp rifle is a Mosin I purchased for my step son. Hex receiver and matching serial numbers down to the bayonet. It's a beautiful shooter and it's tough resisting the urge to sport it out and see how good it could really shoot.

+Mark_115 Too late for mine when I got my first Mosin my great uncle sporterized a 1930 Izhevek Hex receiver 91/30 pretty badly I may say. He didn't even pin the newer front sight on it was just sitting there pressed on and canted to the left. Right now I have it sitting in a M44/38 stock and I am contemplating whether to make it into a M44 or a M38. BTW it was all matching except for the original stock and the magazine floor plate.
