- INNOVV K7 Dashcam camera system. How does it compare to the INNOVV K5 & K6, and is the 2K - 30FPS resolution good enough to read number plates in the event of an accident?
In this episode we are going to test and review the INNOVV K7 system and look in detail at the video resolution options ( 2K-30FPS , 1080p-60FPS and 1080p-30FPS with EIS ) and we are also going to look at “Still Frame Capture” from each of these 3 resolutions.

Do we need 4K resolution from a dashcam system?
The problem with 4K is the high amounts of data (bitrate) that these sensors generate (Bitrate is a measurement of the amount of data used to encode a single second of video).
Currently manufactures are not able to give us full 4K-60FPS front and rear on a motorcycle dashcam system, due to the extremely high amount of data that would be required to travel from the camera to the DVR (digital recording device), and this is why currently (in 2024) we see combinations of the following: 4K front + 1080p rear or 2K front + 2K rear.
The installation of the K7 is relatively straightforward and most owners should find the installation fairly easy. I have several videos on my channel showing how to remove the necessary panels and the tools needed to complete this work.
A good video to watch if you have a BMW R 1250GS is the “INNOVV Third Eye Radar assisted blind spot detection system - Installation guide” I have on my channel.
Of course, you should read the manufacturer’s installation instructions first, so you understand the requirements, but then use this video as a guide to assist you.
If you have any questions, just leave me a comment and I will reply…
During the installation of the K7 on my R1250GS Rallye I used 3 additional parts that do not come in the standard K7 kit. These are as follows:
1 x Posi-Tap connector
1 x INNOVV (0.875” / 2.22cm) mounting bracket
1 x INNOVV R1250GSA front camera mounting bracket
Hopefully you enjoy the content I create, so by Subscribing you are letting me know, that you appreciate the effort and time I invest in creating these episodes, and it also helps to grow and develop the channel.
Best Wishes, Carl

Carl you are doing full blown god's work here, every question was (almost) answered, Ive never seen such a precised review of a item like this. Hats off , cheers ! To help you out , have my sub.
Hi RY, thank you for your kind words, glad you found the review helpful, 🙏
Ps: what was the part I didn’t cover or answer?
Best wishes Carl 🙋🏻♂️
Excellent video, very well done. Looking forward to the K5 video
Thank you 🙏
Hi Carl… another great video👍 One thing I will say is that these cameras, @12:02 does not "keep us safe”, but rather allows our friends/family to know why we were killed, or to assist us with “proof of fault” for legal/insurance purposes if we have survived.
Having been in this situation (May, 2019), I subsequently started wearing helmet-mounted VERY VISIBLE constant recording 360 cameras (initially the now-discontinued Garmin VIRB, then subsequently Insta360 X2). When other road users see that they are being recorded they often moderate their behaviour, so this does help our safety.
It does not matter which cameras we have, because we can/will always get hit/killed by other road users - BUT a decent system like this one will help others (Police, Coroner, and Insurance carriers) to analyse/determine what happened and who did what in the post-incident review.
Cheers, Neil👍
Hi Neil, you raise a couple of good points, but at least someone will have a record of what really happened.
Have a good week Neil---- Carl 👍
I think he meant it could save you by having evidence of what happened for insurance purposes. Not all crashes end in death. At least that's how I took it. Ride safe!!
Great video, Carl. I'm glad you took a look at this camera system. Hopefully, you'll never need to use the recordings for anything more important than reviewing your ride.
Hi Correy, I think we all hope that is the case, it’s nice to know something is there just in case.
Best wishes Carl
Another superb video. Very helpful. 😄👍
Thank you 🙏
Your videos are more interesting than any of the paid streaming channels like Netflix and Prime!
I was considering the K5 for a while but the K7 seems to be the better option.
An installation video of the K7 on the new 1300GS would be much appreciated (if you don't have a 1300 available for this, you can use mine😅).
Thank you 🙏
I might take you up on your offer 😉
@@justthewayitis Any time, Carl!
Superb, nothing left to chance!
Thank you Chris, 🙏
Another excellent and informative video. Thanks! I'm sure I'll buy a K7 later in the year.
Thank you Richard 👍🙋🏻♂️
i had a K5 on my 1250 GS and very good it was ..the only downside is the file size , using the app to download footage takes an age, so it was always easier and faster to take the card out and do the transfer on a lap top..ive recently bought a 1300 GS and i am fitting the K7 to it as its more compact and files will be smaller so hopefully quicker .
Hi Gerry, yes the new 5.8GHz WiFi plus the reduced files size will help speed up transfers, although removing the micro SD card is still quicker 👍
Regards Carl
It’s much like the K3 I have on my K1600.
Great to hear 👍
Hi Carl nothing to do with cameras, but how do you get your spoked wheels looking so clean? Mine always look like they have a film of dirt on them 😊.
Hi Slip, lol I use a toilet brush 🧹 for the area on the rims where spokes attach, and a special spoke brush on the spokes them selves. Amazon sell them for about 7€
But it’s always a pain when I clean the wheels
Carl 😉
Hi, I currently have the K2 fitted to my 1250 GSA. Can I leave the cameras/cabling in place when installing the K7 to save me from having to remove all the panels etc.? TIA.
Hi Gary, I believe the K7 has improved cables with new shielding to improve video quality, so I would think it’s best to exchange everything.
Carl
Hi Carl, I´ve found that the advantage of Innovv systems is the camera clamp set up for the cameras is versatile. On the downside they always supply too long cables! Are dash cams much used in Germany? They have strict data privacy rules I understand.
All the best from showery South Hessen,
Nick
Hi Nick, honestly I have no idea if they are restricted here in Germany, I’ll try to find out 🙏
I'm not sure what the current situation is but in the past an action cam was strictly forbidden in Germany. You are/were not allowed to make videos in public places (e.g. roads..). It could result in hefty fines!
For dash cams that do not make structural footage things might be a bit different nowadays. As long as you keep in mind that the footage might not be accepted as evidence in a court and privacy rules are very, very strict.
I quickly checked and information from November 2023 indicated it is still prohibited to use action/dashcams. Maybe ask the Police in Germany?
Hi Michiel, that is very interesting I was not aware it is prohibited in Germany. I will also do some research.
Thank you 🙏
Carl
Hey, thanks for such a great video. I now want to buy this system after watching, I've tried to use your code through the Innovv link but can't get it to work, comes up as invalid!!! Any advice on if I'm doing something wrong please?
Sorry, should have said the Innovv UK link!
The uk site should be fine I’ll check later, but you can also order it from Weiser Technik UK and the code definitely works click here:
www.weisertechnik.co.uk/product/k7-motorcycle-camera-system/
Best wishes Carl
@@justthewayitisThanks. Would like to be able to order from Innovv for their free postage but the code just doesn't work there!
Hi Max, I have spoken to INNOVV. Yes the .co.uk website does not support my code, apparently it is a different company !!. So, INNOVV recommend you purchase directly from them at the INNOVV.COM site where you can use the code and receive free shipping.
Alternatively as I have mentioned, you can use Weiser-Technik.co.uk who stocks Innovv products and who offers great customer service and support which is more important than free shipping from my perspective. when we buy this types of devices customer support is very important. Of course its up to you....
I have a FIRMWARE (how too) video going up in a few days that is related to the K7
Carl
@@justthewayitisThanks so much for taking the time to clarify this, much appreciated. I'll look forward to your 'how to', Cheers 👍
Is there a way to install it without removing the DIN socket and cutting plastic ? I am not very good with my hands LOL R1250 GSA 2021 tks for the video !! So if I get this right, to get the video recording to our PC, we have to get the SD Card out every time ? it can't be uploaded to our phone ( some WiFi stuff between the k7 and phone)
Hi , no cutting of plastic was needed, I just removed the DIN socket. I have several other systems mounted on my R1250GS 2021 bike so finding space under the rear seat was difficult for me. But on a standard GS/A you will have plenty of room.
Yes you can transfer the files from the DVR directly to your phone via the InnovvAPP using WiFi ( 2.4 or 5.8GHz )
I hope that answers your questions 🙋🏻♂️, I’m currently at the ABR show in Warwickshire and very busy with customers and subscribers, but If you need more help just send me a message 👍
Best wishes
Carl
@@justthewayitis Hoo ok tks ! I though you cut a whole for this : 18m09 tks !
@jfbourdeau Ah ok now I understand 🙏
@@justthewayitis Grrr I wish I could attach a pict here, I have the Lone Rider Head Lamp Protection installed on my R1250 GSA 2021. I think the innovv bracket use the same screw & emplacement... Don't tink I will be able to use their special bracket...
@jfbourdeau send me an email and I’ll look tomorrow

I don't see the need for companies to continue making products with inferior camera systems. I certainly will not buy a system lower than 4K now that there are many 4K cameras out there. So to me, the K7 is a huge bust. But that's just me.
Really no need for anything more at the sort of speeds you're riding at.
Hi Paul, correct 👍. The system is great for keeping a record of what is happening front and rear at normal speeds.
For track use you would be better off using an action camera due to the increased resolution and frame rate.
