  • If you are in the market for a dash cam recorder for your motorcycle, the INNOVV K6, the newest dash cam from INNOVV, has some great features at a great price. www.MCrider.com/K6
    Here is my review of the INNOVV K6, we will look at some features, explore the app and look at some footage from the camera in this review.
    In this day and age a dash cam for your motorcycle makes a lot of sense. Helmet mounted cameras are good but they are not always on and always recording...a dash cam is. See if this is the right camera for you.
    Check out the INNOVV K6 here for further details and to purchase.

    Front and rear cameras saved my bacon in a crash where the witnesses and other driver flat out lied. Video doesn't lie. I now run front and rear cameras on all my vehicles. Warning: if you drive like an idiot, it shows that too.

    I had a Kenwood motor sports system on my Road King when I was rear ended at a complete stop, totaling my bike. The camera performed superbly but it was grossly expensive. One great thing was the crash detection feature, which instantly saved the crash video in a dedicated folder. I’m considering this Innov system for my new bike.

    Back in March 2024 I purchased a "Drift Innovations - Ghost XL Snow" camera. I mounted the camera to my helmet but it's only front facing or wherever I turn my head to. About a month later, I was "Rear-ended" on my motorcycle by a Chrysler van. That little camera caught me checking my mirrors before coming to a stop behind cars at a traffic light. Then it caught the screeching of her brakes for about 1 second than BAM... I'm on the ground. My bike is totaled, but I fared better than I could have. I only got 2 cracked ribs, a badly sprained shoulder (which still hurts after 10 weeks) and 2 large hematoma's, one on each leg. But I thank GOD that I'm alive and not permanently damaged or disabled.
    Since then, I use that camera every time I go out on my bike. And I'm looking into buying 2 new camera's, both with front and rear view, and install one on my bike and the other on my car! Cameras are a GREAT IDEA, especially the way some assholes are actually able to get a "State Issued Driver's License" and drive around like "they are the only person on the road and only they matter!" Those are the assholes that run over bikers on motorcycles.

    Thanks Kevin, good review, I've fitted a ydi budget dashcam on my F800 , wired to come on with the ignition switch, front and rear cameras give great videos, I can download clips through the app or which is much quicker pop the SD card out and view directly on my laptop, also have a little button with 3 choices, take a still picture, protect a file and turn the microphone on or off, I fit a dashcam to every vehicle I own, keep up the good work.

    The lack of a dvr box is a downside too. Someone could just come along while you're are parked and pop the memory card out. At least with the dvr box under your seat or similar the card is safe from theft

      It's also a nice feature if a rock flies up and smashes the lens on your front camera. You can just move the back camera to the front and still have that view until you get a new front camera.

      The reason the DVR box is on the camera itself. Is the same reason gopro use it like this. It's also the reason why the rear is at 1080p. The dvr being far away from the camera would be it woulnd't be able to keep up with the 4k / 2k footage on a cable.

I prefer this set up because of the ease of installation and simple operation. I just need a video recorder for the unforeseen events (I don’t really care about the audio. Long battery usage and the option for direct usb connection for continuous filming. The price is about right for me. Finally - I like the first-person point of view filming.

    The technology exists today for such a product to do real-time license plate reading and overlay on the recorded video. This sort of edge device AI is making its way into action cameras now. There’s no reason a company like INNOV couldn’t start doing this right now for dashcam systems.

  • @RebelCowboysRVs
    @RebelCowboysRVs 7 місяців тому +4

    Frame rate is linked to shutter speed for nice cameras shooting movies wanting to get a smooth natural looking video because it can adjust light with its adjustable aperture. But requires filters in bright light an added light in darkness. But as I understand it, a fixed aperture camera like in dash cameras, adjusts shutter speed to adjust for light levels. Especially one meant to work both in bright sun an in darkness. So shutter speed is not directly linked to frame rate. They are not trying to make smooth video, they are balancing brightness with blur. 60 fps would have more images but shutter speed is likely the same causing the same motion blur in a camera like this. 60fps would just look smoother to us. But just looking at that video, it looks to me like a compression or upscaling issue not a blur issue. The tag on the car matching your speed in bright sun should have been much clearer if it was a shutter speed issue. But I just dabble in cameras so I may be wrong.

    I always install a dashcam set on my motorcycles, but this is one that I would not be interested in. Why? Several reasons.
    First, if you want to take a photo you have to get out your phone, unlock it, scroll to the App and launch it. Click around to the controls and then click your phone to take the photo. Way to much fiddeling around with your phone and not something you should be doing while the motorcycle is in motion. My dashcam has a dedicated button on the handlebars that I can click anytime to take a photo, without having to fiddle around.
    Lack of image stabilization makes this camera good for very basic video and useful for insurance claims but not something I would use to film a ride. On a bumpy road that image is going to be all over the place and give anyone watching it a headache. Sure a basic dash cam image is useful but do not think that this will give you great UA-cam videos.
    I ride adventure bikes and usually install my front camera just under the headlight, above the wheel, so with this camera getting at the MicroSD card would be a pain in the butt. Also as the recording light is on the camera I would not be able to see if it is actually recording.
    No GPS mapping tied to video. A good dash cam should have it's own dedicated GPS sensor to log filming location, and not have to rely on your phones GPS.
    I keep my phone in a waterproof pocket of my tank bag. I have no interest in owning a camera that requires my phone to start/stop filming or to access any of its functions WHILE RIDING. You should never be messing with your phone while your motorcycle is in motion. Ever! MCrider has done videos on distracted riding and how dangerous it can be so I am surprised that he endorses a camera system thsat forces you to use your phone while riding.
    This is a dash cam that was designed for use with a bicycle, and then given a beefed up harness for a motorcycle. There are far better dash cams out there that were designed specifically for motorcycles. You can even get Motorcycle dash cams that include Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.

    At 30 FPS you can have a 1/30th second shutter, at 60 FPS 1/60th. Low light performance will suffer given a similar sensor.
    Those cams are kind of big and clunky. I like the little bullet cams you get with the ones with a separate box, I usually can find a place to put them where you can't even see them. The box under the seat isn't a big deal, you have to take the seat off anyway to get power and run the wires, putting the box under there is an extra 2 minutes.
    I use a VSYSTO, I've had it on 3 different bikes now and like it. I had a different cam before but the mounts for the cams were terrible and they vibrated badly.
    Close to $300 is pretty expensive. For motorcycles or cars I've never spent more than $200 and they've all had similar video quality, heck the one in my truck is 60 FPS and was also < $200.

  • @PerJrgensen1969
    @PerJrgensen1969 7 місяців тому +5

    I had an Innovv K5 installed, and it failed the one time it mattered most, so I'm not convinced of their quality control.
    It was my luck I crashed on track and not in traffic where I may have needed the evidence from the dash cam. That, after all, is the reason I installed it. No footage to be found from the critical 20-30 seconds leading up to and during the crash. Went several unproductive rounds with customer service, at the end of which they shrugged it off saying cable connections being loose can cause this. Well, I'd made sure they were tight -- and if this is a problem, how is the camera expected to function in a crash? That's the very event you install a dash cam for, and when it happens everything on the bike will be subjected to forces in all kinds of directions. If the cable connections (or anything else on the system) can't handle that, you can't rely on it.
    I went with VIOFO instead for my replacement bike. Fingers crossed it'll do it's job when it counts.

    • @Near2Future
      @Near2Future 5 місяців тому

    How does it know to put a video in "accidents" - does it have a G force sensor or do you push a button (or both)? Can you make it take a photo while riding without the app? Most motorcycle dash cams can do that via a mounted button. The still photo often can do better with reading plate numbers if you can push the button while the car is close.

    If I click the link and let it redirect to the Amazon app, will you still get credit for your affiliate link? Great review. Would have been nice to see where the SD card goes into the camera as that plays a role. • @bacbladerunner

    30fps or 60fps has nothing to do with the clarity of an individual frame. 60fps is just taking twice as MANY pictures, but they are of the same clarity. You probably just need more resolution. But if the frame is blurry due to movement, then you need a faster shutter speed. But going from 30fps to 60 fps at the same resolution and shutter speed will only get you twice as many pictures of exactly the same quality.

    • @tombaily29
      @tombaily29 7 місяців тому +1

      Effectively this isn't true because the video encoding processor can only handle so much information, so to achieve 60FPS it forces a lower resolution. So 30FPS has more clarity per image vs 60FPS.

    • @bacbladerunner
      @bacbladerunner 7 місяців тому +2

      @tombaily29 Okay, that makes sense. But either way, going to 60fps won't make the license plate clearer. The camera just needs more processing power SO THAT it can process more resolution. It also may need a better lense/camera chip. I understand companies need to keep costs down so they get buyers, but I have always been disappointed in buying security cameras, only to discover that a license plate cannot be read when really needed. I accept there is a tradeoff with everything.

    Not good. I have a GoPro, but I want a camera that automatically turns on and starts recording when it is powered up, otherwise I might as well just keep using the GoPro. This camera does not automatically turn on when powered up. I have to "push a button" to start it, just like I do with the GoPro. Not good.

    The biggest con in all Innov systems is the lack of cloud recording, and nobody has pointed that out.
    I assume most UA-camrs are getting them for free. A person who actually pays for their bikes and cams, would for sure need such a feature, especially if you know the hardware allows that. It is just a matter of upgrading the software to make it do that.

    OK guys, I bought this in Nov. I worked for a month and a half to interpret the "instructions" to get this working RIGHT on a bench before installing. I failed. After numerous inquires to the manufacturer, I finally got a response. An absolutely absurd and useless response...from China. My advice is to save yourself lots of time and trouble and buy something else. I sent the camera system with worse than useless instructions back. I really wanted to make it work, gut feeling is it could real easy if the instructions actually tell you HOW to do what they say to do. THEY DON"T. Save yourself some angst and pass on this.
