Yep. Have a set for a year or so. I love the greys. And I really like Port. Remember, they are tinted graphite.. i don’t suppose one can have a ‘yellow’ graphite as graphite is blackish. They could likely make a brick red … IMHO, they’re for those who draw using graphite pencil to add a touch color when wanted. Of course, you use them with any other medium.
Not only are your videos relaxing to watch and listen to but I learn so much too. With each video I feel inspired to paint and draw. You are a wonderful artist and teacher.
I have a larger set of these and also Derwent's tinted charcoal set because I do love the muted colour palette and the slight metallic sheen. Spectrum Noir also have a similar range that has some lovely blues in it and I've just ordered the Staedtler set because I didn't know about it! Great for landscapes and I use an ordinary watercolour pencil in yellow ochre if I need it.
Great demonstration with a media I am not familiar with and the result was excellent. It is a real treat to see Michele’s art come to life. I highly recommend Michele’s newsletter always a great read. For those that receive the newsletter if an adult torso doll sponsor came my way I could not resist being their poster boy. Thank you Michele for your exceptional integrity.
I have the same set. (Or, as is so popular now in modern redundant speech the "exact same" set.) All of the color will be muted in value, as they are mixed with graphite. (Kudos to you for not stating pencils are lead!) Regular watercolor pencils and Inktense will have more saturated colors. This set can be helpful in drawing some details on animal paintings and landscapes. An inexpensive Caran d"Ache palette can be use for any watercolor pencil instead of wasting pigment on scrap paper. It can also be used for trad watercolor. There are some graphite based watercolor pencils that just come in sets of gray scale.
I have used these pencils for an art piece in my sketch book. I found the muting of the color to be something that I didn't like at first, but have since realized that it could have advantages too. I am still relatively new to these so want to withhold judgement for now. Thanks for the tutorial. It was very helpful.
I love graphite pencils....however I also have Steadtler graphite tinted watercolor pencils....they are a portion of the cost and the colors much more vivid.
I like the Staedtler pencils as well. Their set of 12 is very well-balanced, though it also lacks a yellow like all the other tinted graphite sets. It comes with one of those unnatural emerald greens and a yellowish spring green, which I mix with other colors for a more natural foliage color. I have the Graphitint set of 24 but find myself reaching for the Staedtler more often. Their color indicator is just a tiny dot on the top of the pencil, though, so I wrote color names on the side with a white acrylic fineliner.
Thank you for an excellent demo and review. I have the larger set that some people have mentioned but it’s really helpful to see a professional use these. Plus I loved the landscape that you used, I may try to replicate your drawing to get more practice with these lovely pencils. Thanks!!
I truly enjoyed watching you draw a picture using these pencils. I'd love to see some videos with you using other mediums in a quick painting (like there is such a thing, haha). I'm at a place where I'd like to add gouache, pastels, markers etc. to my watercolour paintings. I'm going to go back in your videos to see if you have already done this. Thanks.
Oh I have not tried these pencils & like you, I am equally surprised by the amount of colors in the graphite pencils. This set looks great for landscapes or urban sketching. I would definitely be interested in seeing them used with watercolors. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Yes I have the tin of 24 and there is a muted yellow in the set they are 24 useful colours and because they are tints use a spare piece of water colour paper for mixes before trying them on your painting best regards Steve
Excellent review and beautiful landscape! 😍 I love watercolor pencils and water soluble graphite, so I should like the Graphitint, but they don’t catch my eye very much. I’d like to try them, of course (experimenting with new techniques is always interesting), but I don’t know if they are really worth it for me 🤔
I got the Staedler version on sale a while ago and I like the hint of graphite in them. The colours are still vibrant enough for my liking but not too "in your face". As for yellow you could perhaps use one of your Albrecht Dürer pencils? Thank you for the nice "unboxing" video - something I usually refuse to watch
What a great tryout! They were not at all like I had imagined! I was surprised by the amount of color and how well they "melted"! I have a small set of F. C. Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. So now I'm wondering, would there be any reason to have w/c pencils AND graphitint pencils?
I suppose the Derwent Inktense pencils are more suited for landscapes than the Graphtint pencils. But the latter are excellent if you just want to give a hint of colour to your sketches. I have used both. Just my honest opinion. Thanks for your excellent videos.
I was especially interested in this demo Michele, as I have the graphitint paints and use them on my travels. In one instance, on a Trainy trip, our attendant thought I was painting with eye shadow 😂 Perhaps I should switch to the pencils. Do they have a slight metallic sheen, like the paints?
Very interesting Michele - i am torn between getting a set of these or a set of Derwent Inktense (which I'm assuming will be a lot more saturated) do you have any experience of these at all?
I love Inktense, the colours are amazing, I am actually doing a video about them soon, as I only have a few that were gifted to me so I need to choose more colours. I think it's a matter of how you will use them. If you just want to add a little colour to a graphite sketch then these are great, but for bright colours then Inktense are better.
I am dealing with lack of primary colors in the set in quite a simple way :) . I have a pencil case with one side of Graphitints and other side of Inktense. Its not like art police will come if i will combine both in a same piece :D
Would love to see some more tutorials after you get use to these pencils. They are not meant to be super bright. They are an animal all their own and am still learning how to use them.
Nobody really needs them, but art supply lovers want them. Lol. They have a particular sheen to them that isn’t present in watercolour pencils and they do come in some beautiful and unusual shades. Nobody needs Inktense pencils either, but they are also different to watercolour pencils in that they are Ink based so do not lift when layering, are extremely vivid and come in gorgeous colours. I have all three types of water based pencils and I love them all for their unique properties ❤
I feel like they are more for people who like to do a sketch and then work it into a painting later, perhaps sketching in nature and just adding a hint of colour.
There is a 24 colour set. You can buy the pencils open stock to add to the set you have. The colour caps on these pencils are rubbish. Also, there is an issue with combining graphite with yellow - it doesn't work, which is a pity, but there you are. Lovely sketch.
Sadly a yellow is not possible, cause, as u surely know, as soon as u add black (in this case the graphite) to a yellow, the mix will become greenish. That's why graphitint can give us a yellow. 😉

Since you liked that Ivy color, surely you will love Meadow, very similar. Those are 2 of my favorite Graphitint pencils. ❤

Thanks so much 🙏😊
I have these & the Staedtler. No yellow, they’re graphite with tint added. Love them!

I just tried graphite pencils for the first time and theyre my new starter pencil now! 🎨

no problem!
Never heard of colored graphite pencils. But they are very pretty. As always thank you Michele. 🥰💕🐶💕🥰
Thank you for this great graphite how to. I enjoyed watching and learning, and I especially enjoyed seeing the work in creation.❤
I like to use them for drop shadows. They offer more control and much color variation for that.
Thanks for the video. I inherited a tin along with lots of supplies but haven't tried them yet. Will give them a try now.

I do plan to do more mixed media stuff in the future, yes people seemed to like the quick sketch approach!
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I have been finding other goodies in your videos for mixed media as well. Thanks.
Thanks Michele

They are lovely pencils; at times use them with my watercolors.
I have these but haven't worked with them much
They do a set of 24.....I've had them about 2 years now, and love them
I think you were expecting Derwent tinted charcoal. I returned them. They were 9/12 just grey.
Excellent review and beautiful landscape! 😍

I would go with your gut feeling, lots of stuff out there without buying things you don't like!
I don't have the Graphitint but I do own the staedtler Tinted Graphite Pencils. I love them. Really nice Colors.
Nice!

Ha ha, me too!
I have a set that is double in size. If I remember correctly, it does have a yellow ochre color and a mossy green.
Yes I vaguely remember a bigger set I think 🤔
Nicely done, and thanks for reminding me that I own a set of these pencils. 😁
Thanks!
I really like my graphite pencils. 😊
What a great tryout! They were not at all like I had imagined! I was surprised by the amount of color and how well they "melted"! I have a small set of F. C. Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. So now I'm wondering, would there be any reason to have w/c pencils AND graphitint pencils?
All depends on how much you think you will use them I guess!
Very interesting 😊
Glad you think so!

A little, kind of waxy and slightly metallic I feel.
I have the set of 24. They are lovely muted colors. There’s nothing yellow though.
I use these for sketching in drawing before i use watercolor. The lines melt away into the water color.
Exactly!
Very interesting Michele - i am torn between getting a set of these or a set of Derwent Inktense (which I'm assuming will be a lot more saturated) do you have any experience of these at all?

@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber great thanks for that. I'll look forward to the video

*quietly dials art police... ha ha, no you are quite right, I could tell they would easily combine with others :-)
I like you miss a yellow shade in the tin. But, found them ok. In fact I like using them, especially with water. Thanks.
Thanks for watching 😊
Would love to see some more tutorials after you get use to these pencils. They are not meant to be super bright. They are an animal all their own and am still learning how to use them.
Noted, yes you are right!
Why would you need these if you have watercolor pencils? Just because they are muted?
Nobody really needs them, but art supply lovers want them. Lol. They have a particular sheen to them that isn’t present in watercolour pencils and they do come in some beautiful and unusual shades. Nobody needs Inktense pencils either, but they are also different to watercolour pencils in that they are Ink based so do not lift when layering, are extremely vivid and come in gorgeous colours. I feel like they are more for people who like to do a sketch and then work it into a painting later, perhaps sketching in nature and just adding a hint of colour.
There is no yellow or yellow tone. There is an ocean blue that is closer to turquoise, but very muted.
