The Chrometta 8 is a great little workhorse and I wish I had another. Mine has a red comb that's broken near the button and has a few broken reeds but I don't care it's filling in for my CX12 gold and doing a good job.
Thanks,,,,5 years later. I was helping someone out today and found this in the working. Gift of music, to me. I play Diatonics only, up til now. C,A and F, predominantly. Haven't heard of this one and never seem to have the cash to get a higher ticket Chromatic. So, this is cool, the video is very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
I am listening with my big headphones on and have them set with high volume I just jumped off my chair when the guy on the vid knocks the door lol. nice playing and good variation to show off the harps sound. Cheers.
If I didn't have ADD I would have learned something from you. Was a pleasure to have met you @ Sagebrush Cantina Calabasas/Woodland Hills. You played with my cousins band Susan Sheller. I was just looking at a Chrometta 12, like new from a friend for $10. I am thinking about getting it. Thanks for offering me lessons, sorry I was down south with friends at the beach for the summer and couldn't make it on Sundays. Your the best, thanks.
After reading a ton of reviews, good, bad, and love, I decided to order a 14 holer. Yesterday. The many comments about the sound, sold me. And of course. YOU.
Thank you. I dont use tabs. I strongly suggest that vou do yourself an enormous favor and learn to read music with the chromatic. You can do this in a few months if you set your mind to it. This will open your horizon.
I got a chrometta 8 around a week ago. I had ordered that and a super chromonica, as I wanted a smaller chromatic I coud take with me, and the chrometta arrived first. It's my first chromatic, and I'm finding it easy to learn on. I really like it's antique look, and I find the tone of the first for holes to be quite rich and warm. I've really grown fond of it. It's really encouraged me to play. I'm new to chromatic playing , and I'm playing and larning every day with this new instrument of mine. I'm curious what my playing experience will be like chromatic wise against the super chromatica when I get it. It's definintely a differnet experience from playing my hohner special 20s. A different flow to it. I like being able to tackle jazz songs like Miles Davis more easily my chrometta 8 :)
@@tampakhin6907 for most songs, I've found 8 holes, enough, but I'm eventually getting a 12 hole chromatic, as some pop songs need it. There are a few pop songs, like George Micheals music, that requires it. I am surprised at how much 8 holes does cover, though. I've only come across a few songs that have gone beyond the range of 8 holes. I thought it'd be more.
Take the covers off and wash it CAREFULLY. Or let it sit for a week after yo get it. Virus only lasts a few days and there is no wood comb to to collect mold...
The older Chromettas are held together with drift pins. They are tapered pins that are forced into holes that are slightly smaller than the pins. I took a one inch C clamp and put an allen set screw over the head of the drift pin. The C clamp pushed on the protruding end of the pin and against the set screw on the other side. The pin was then pushed up into the set screw by turning the screw on the C clamp. When the pin was pushed out a bit it was then grabbed with a pliers and pulled out with a slight twisting motion. Each pin was taped to a paper diagram of the reed plates so the pin could be put back into the exact same hole. Some pins start from the top plate and some from the bottom plate so make sure you note which way they came out. I cleaned everything with isopropel alcohol. I used Q tips to clean around the valves so I wouldn't have to remove them. Reassembly was the reverse. The set screw was placed over the hole for the small end of the pin and the C clamp pushed from the large end, pushing the pin through the reed plate holes and into the set screw. A stack of small washers would work instead of the set screw but might be rather hard to keep in place. I did mine over a year ago and it is just fine. Mine was purchased used for $30. Good luck.
Come on by any time (If you can catch me). . The chromettas are a good deal. they are often wrecked when you buy a used one since they are a little bit frail. For ten bucks you cant go wrong. I sell all of my old chromatics reasonably If you should want one.
I have one of these and glad I found your vid. The knock made it even more fun to watch! ;) Thanks for posting.. so long ago.
Just plain old good work Brother. Thanks. Bob from Philly

Really good review. And I love when you play a chromatic scale. So foreign to my diatonic harmonica ears.
Love your sound & technique!
Beautiful chair
Thanks Harold that is my harmoguena intro !
Thanks Ken,
Have a nice day
Steph.
Please I fell in love with 1:29-2:09, if theres something I would want to play with my Chrometta 8 it would be that!
Hello! Can you advise the Hohner chrometta 8 harmonica to a beginner? How is it in terms of survivability, the valves stick?

May i know that 8 holes are enough range to use?

Hello friend, could you tell me what the soil of the first song you Solou if I'm not mistaken is the Elvys Presley , hug .
first song is just a blues progression in the key of c
HI Ken, that was some awesome playing, and tone too! May I ask if you play tongue blocked or lip pursed?
I do both
Cool, I found one of these in the attic…. I'll give it a shot
Ken, I meant to ask. Do you tongue block or pucker, while playing the chrometta with its oversized holes?
Both. I realize that there are fanatics that swear by one style or the other. Why limit yourself?
Best harnonica for play melody in pop music.
Excellent!
If I buy a Chrometta on Ebay, how do I clean it in order to be safe? I have never disassembled a chromatic and they look pretty complicated.
