I'm Indonesian, but was living in Russia for 3-4 years a while ago. Everytime I heard one of Russian classics at streets and cafes it really gave me special feelings, there was always something warm in it and I ended up listening it before bed to have nice dreams. Can't say all of them had it, but in songs like Kalinka you can hear how much feeling Russian people putted in it. It's a shame that nowadays people straight up scared to talked everything related to Russia, this "new" conflict is surely awful, but people forgot how awesome Russian culture is. I'm gonna say this for all actually good people in Russia that didn't turned into aggressive "patriots" when war started - Indonesia loves you!
Ave Maria Caccini was actually written by the Russian lutenist Vladimir Vavilov. The recording of this work was released in the USSR in 1970 on a vinyl disc. Vavilov passed off his works as the works of great composers because there was a strict selection in the USSR and he was afraid that the public would not hear his compositions for a long time.

All right. 1) "Korobeiniki" means "street merchants", "peddlers" in russian 3) The third composition is known as piece of Tchaikovskie's "Swan lake" ballet (Upd^ i was corrected. "the dance of the dying swan" has nothing to do with Tchaikovsky's ballet. This is the name of a completely different work) 5) The full name of "Kalinka-Malinka" song means "guelderrose-raspberry" 6) Katyusha is the diminutive form of the name Catherine 7) Everyone knows that "Dance of the knights" is a piece of "Romeo and Juliet" ballet by Prokofiev 9) Russian state anthem uses the music of Soviet Union state anthem which by itself uses music of old anthem of All-union communist party (bolsheviks) - VCP(b) 10) "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" means "Along the long road"

This flying pig is forever in my heart 😂😂 for those who don't speak Russian, he sang (5:51) "vdal' letit zvenya" very similar to "vdal' letit svin'ya" ("flying in the distance ringing" as "flying pig in the distance"). Of course, he didn't mean to sing it this way, but Russian speakers can hear only "flying pig" xD That's adorable!
He says the soft "z" pretty clear to me and "nya" at the end is ok too, it's just his accent. I don't hear the soft "s" and the "n'ya" for that word to be turned into "pig"
Thank you for this video. I personally like you've shown 'Those were the days' is 'Dorogoi dalniyu'. It's a passionate gypsy romance. This is a genre of music that was popular in XIX century. Gypsies were popular in Russia those days for ther music talents and often were invited to perform. They shared the passion Russian people have too. And by the end of XIX century the genere 'romance' was made by influence of gypsy culture and russian music, it was a fusion. In 1919-1921 because of Revolution and dramatic changes the class of 'inteligencia' fleed from civil war and collapsing country. They brought to the west their culture and habits. And of corse they sang romance songs, like 'Ochi Chiornye' - 'Black eyes' and 'Dorogoi dalniuy'.

@The Adventures of Rocket-Tri I'm Indonesian, but was living in Russia for 3-4 years a while ago. Everytime I heard one of Russian classics at streets and cafes it really gave me special feelings, there was always something warm in it and I ended up listening it before bed to have nice dreams.
