    Little Lady - First musical instrument played in space (thanks Wally Schirra! - Gemini 6). Got one on tied to my dog tags and it grabs everyone's attention. Only other harp I got here is a Seydel Big Six. Love this one. Stainless steel reeds make a difference and it's really smooth to play considering I'm used to playing a 10 hole harp. Nice vid mate. Cheers.

      Indeed. I take it everywhere to play with and though decent volume when close it doesn't carry out super far so I don't have to be embarrassed about my bad playing.

    The Seydel Big Six is amazing. I have a Blues one and a Folk one, both in C. Buy them. They really are mini Seydel Classics, and with 6 holes, a steal at less than half the price of a ten-hole.

      If you can't meme, you can't dream What’s the difference between the blues and the folk harmonicas?

    • @TremoloHarmonica
      @TremoloHarmonica 5 років тому +1

      The blues version has the first six holes of a standard diatonic. Good for 2 position playing and bending. The folk version has holes 4 to 9 of a standard diatonic. Good for 1st position tunes. I have a blues version and retuned it to Melody Maker so it now plays melody better.

    You really convinced me to get a Seydel Big Six. Can you make a short video tutorial on how to play the bit of blues that you did on it?

    • @shamell32

      Can it fit on a necklace

    • @neiloppa2620
      @neiloppa2620 6 років тому

      Mel Lee I wouldn't wear it as a necklace, I feel like it's too big and heavy for that. I keep it in my jeans pocket next to my pen.

    • @muttley8818
      @muttley8818 5 років тому

      @@shamell32 If you buy a Seydel Big Six brand new then it should come in a sealed tin with a ring pull. You can use the tin for effects while playing. It also comes with a lanyard. And it's good enough to wear without fearing it'll drop off. Had my Big Six for a few months and I wear the lanyard. It's a brilliant harp to carry round. Ken is right though. It's a proper harp. Not a toy.

      Howard Levy ftw he is the best at harp. Also buy the cheapest harp in store cuz beginner always destroys their first harmonicas

    • @winstonchurchill624
      @winstonchurchill624 5 років тому +3

      Mel Lee Completely disregard what the other guy said. In my opinion, the best harmonica teacher is Tomlin Leckie, He has hundreds of great tutorials for free on UA-cam. And don’t get a cheap harmonica, it will only make you not want to play as it will be very difficult to play. I would recommend theHoner Special 20. Really though, as long as the harmonica is over $30, it is most likely a quality instrument.
      Your comment is pretty old so I am sure that you have already started on your harmonica journey, but I hope some of the stuff I said is still useful for you, or other beginners. And if you haven’t started playing, I hope that I’ve encouraged you to finally start.

    I just got a little lady and there is a lot of air escaping through the leading edge of the cover plates (not seating properly against the comb/reed plate groove) way do they make it with a gapy cover plate?

    • @kishascape
      @kishascape Рік тому

      They don't it's perfectly fine. Also get the Suzuki N-1200 if you want the most sealed one. Mando in Australia still sells them as does Canadian Amazon. Bit trickier to find it in the USA these days.

      landztranz for a 6 year old I recommend a SUZUKI Air wave. Google it Perfect for kids. Very safe

      Tnx so much! I actually bought a Puck because it looked really cute and it played, but I think the Airwave would be better for my granddaughter.

    Ken, did you find that your Suzuki Metal Major takes more air power to play than the other miniature harps? I really like the extra range that the fifth hole provides, but it sure seems to take considerably more air to play than my other miniature harps (Seydel Mini & Suzuki N-1200). I don't know if I just bought a defective one, or if that's typical of the Metal Major.

    This isn't as "mini" but the babyfat 7 hole is quite a good harp and is a bit easier to play. You can get one for under $20 on sale from time to time in different keys and tunings.

    I quickly blew the reeds off on "The Little Lady and Puck". "The Little Lady" was fairly expensive but didn't last long. That's really why I will avoid these small harmonicas in the future -- they are fun and sound OK but don't last worth a damn.

    • @muttley8818
      @muttley8818 5 років тому

      Had my Little Lady for about 4 years and still going strong. Although in fairness I always carry around my Special 20 so I don't play the little 'un much. Always attracts attention when I do use it though. I never blow or draw hard on it. But I'm also a crap player so that might have something to do with it.

    • @TremoloHarmonica

      The big six is a real harp and will last. The others are novelty instruments. I use a mini Suzuki, not the Metal Major, every year in a Christmas show for a couple minutes. Folks always smile when it comes out. I get close to the mic and don't play it hard.

    I bought a Mini Hohner the other day for about £3.99 (say about US$6-7) from a ukulele shop and I have a half-mind to go back and return it; it's not worth it in the slightest.
