Thank you for your great videos. Hi Ferry, you can play softly on all keys but lower keys would probably sound nicest. Maybe an A or a G. The main thing is to really try not to use too much air :-)
Cool! I am so determined now to add harp to my piano and guitar. I´m suffering the consequences of early bad begginer practices. When i was a begginer, I did play "very hard", but I got to know how control the gush of air gently. Now, a year later, I´m witnessing a "multiple organ failure" of my harmonica. My 4 and 3 hole reeds are gone (due to overuse of bendings I think). My 2 are going there and my 5 are starting as well. To be honest, I think that my current "hard use" of tongue blocking was the last nail of the coffin. Not good, I´ll have to buy another harmonica soon haha

So my Grandmother recently gave me an old Bandmaster Chromatic harmonica, so I thought I would do some research on it, but I can't seem to find any info on the specific one I have. The harmonica I have is 4 full octaves, but all the ones I have found of the same brand are 3. If anyone knows any info about it that would be cool. Also there is text on the side that seems to be stamped on that says "Germany USSR Occupied".
Sounds very familiar ...... bin there done that like we say 🎶🎶😎 learning is faling and standing up again and just like al things in live it is not bad to make mistakes. Thanx Tomlin ..... 🎶🎶🎶😎👊
Sunny Scott, I bought a neck holder, so I can play blues harp, drive; working steering wheel, 6-speed gearshift, cruise control, climate controls and satellite radio, while handling phone calls, chatting with my ham radio friends with a Morse code key, and my CB channel 19 buddies, texting, playing Grand Theft Auto, watching UA-cam cat videos, snorting a line of nose candy and rolling a perfect joint. Am I a distracted driver?
Cause I play guitar simultaneously, I can't stop moving my head, but this explains why I miss notes more than when I hold the instrument with two hands.
Some really good advice, I've caught myself doing most of these over the past 2 weeks. I never sat down and learned anything other than a couple chords on harmonica, even though I've spent most of my life with a harp, and have been writing and playing music for over 20 years on piano and guitar. So a couple weeks ago I decided I was going to FINALLY learn some Blues Harp. I watched a few vids from Gussow and Tomlin here, and learned a few cool little tricks. I could almost immediately do all the draw bends, including the 1/4 step on the 5, and a couple blow bends, just having trouble being consistent with the 2 draw Whole bend, and the 3 draw 1 1/2 bend. Also have the beginnings of vibrato, and I can tongue block easy enough for the harmonies and some quick chord to single changes. So I thought I was a born natural and was on the road to playing some serious licks, but oh how I was wrong. I found out soon after some extended practicing my mouth and lips are muscle sore. I've read that this can be caused by bad embouchure and tension, so I've tried to adjust but when I apply all these "deep harp relaxed mouth" positions I can't hardly lip block to a single note, much less bend or get vibrato, and I feel more tense. Is it possible to put the harmonica TOO deep in the mouth, also is the muscle soreness normal? If it's just normal and my mouth's muscles will get used to it I feel like my embouchure was fine before I started trying to hyper focus on it. I am a stubborn musician and am determined to learn this instrument like the others that I have already, but as I have learned over the past 20+ years of playing music, I want to practice proper playing techniques first. Thanks for any help that can be shared.

Vitor Angelo ... Can you not just replace the reed plates for your instrument [instead of buying a whole new one] ?
Good job breaking things done so easily
The amount of sexual puns you managed to not laugh at - You're a master
I dont play but your lesson on dont do this got me interested on giving it a try and that every Wensday you give lesson you good teacher looking forward to learn the harmonica keep up the good work teach :))
"You need to be able to go to the hole, and go to the right one straight away."
Verbatim, exactly what she said
Very good! I am making 3 of these mistakes! Thank you.
RiggityRekt that's bout rare as fuck, and valuable
Sounds very familiar ...... bin there done that like we say 🎶🎶😎 learning is faling and standing up again and just like al things in live it is not bad to make mistakes.
Thanx Tomlin ..... 🎶🎶🎶😎👊
I have to play with one hand when I'm driving otherwise the car runs off the road !
Lol - that is very sensible :-)
really?
Much safer than texting while driving....
Sunny Scott,
I bought a neck holder, so I can play blues harp, drive; working steering wheel, 6-speed gearshift, cruise control, climate controls and satellite radio, while handling phone calls, chatting with my ham radio friends with a Morse code key, and my CB channel 19 buddies, texting, playing Grand Theft Auto, watching UA-cam cat videos, snorting a line of nose candy and rolling a perfect joint. Am I a distracted driver?
Thanks for a good suggestion.
Dude, thank you
+Thomas Megabezemboy my pleasure :-)
Oh
Those tips were great thank you
Abraham Lincoln, Wyatt Earp, Billy The Kid just to name a few who played harmonica.
I did not know that, thank you for the interesting fact :-)
One more reason to Learn to play, Good ole Abe.
I wish Trump played lol. Best president ever
and Toots Theilemans
Started learning an hour ago .. guilty on everything you pointed out XD
Cause I play guitar simultaneously, I can't stop moving my head, but this explains why I miss notes more than when I hold the instrument with two hands.
I feel ya, I’ve recently started practicing playing with a rack and it is so frustrating!
"Dont look at the harmonica" *looks at harmonica*
