I Found My Way - Sally Dworsky - "The Wizard" Soundtrack

  • This music was sourced from a LaserDisc copy of "The Wizard," recorded via Audacity direct from the digital audio track via S/PDIF through an EIAJ optical connection between my Apple MacBook Pro and my Pioneer CLD-3070 LaserDisc Player. It has also been edited to remove Haley's laugh near the beginning of the song, which I was inspired to do after hearing FOX - KC's upload of the same song.
Because the original source is linear PCM with no lossy data compression (16-bit, 44.1kHz, stereo with a Dolby Surround matrix) recorded completely in the digital domain, it should sound better than other uploads of this song, usually sourced from analog video cassette, either the longitudinal track or from the AFM Hi-Fi track, or from rips of the 2.0 Dolby Digital track of the DVD-Video release.
Of course, the final quality of the sound in this upload will be dependent on the quality of UA-cam's compression.

Pretty much anything directed, written, and/or produced by John Hughes. That's a lot of movies. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," "The Great Outdoors," "Sixteen Candles," "The Breakfast Club," "Weird Science," "National Lampoon's Vacation," "National Lampoon's European Vacation," "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," and "Uncle Buck" are great examples.
Pretty much any film directed by John Landis from the decade, starting with "The Blues Brothers."
Pretty much any film produced by Amblin Entertainment. This includes "The Goonies," the "Back to the Future" trilogy, "Young Sherlock Holmes," and any film of that decade directed by Steven Spielberg with exception of the first three "Indiana Jones" films as those were produced by Lucasfilm, though those are also 80s must watch films.
Pretty much the "Star Wars" trilogy: "A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "The Return of the Jedi." Of course, the very first "Star Wars" film was from 1977, but it did help to dictate the kinds of movies that were made from that point on.
Pretty much any film produced by The Ladd Company, though they also produced films in the 1990s. But they were responsible for a lot of great 80s movies like "The Right Stuff," all of the "Police Academy" films, "Blade Runner," and "Outland."
Speaking of "Outland," many of Peter Hyams' films of that decade are good watches. This includes "2010: The Year We Make Contact," "Running Scared," and "The Presidio."
Pretty much any film produced by Sherwood Productions and Gladden Entertainment, as those two companies were headed by David Begelman. Unfortunately, Mr. Begelman was a bit of a crook. Nevertheless, his production companies did turn out 80s classics like "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai," "Mr. Mom," and "Weekend at Bernie's."
1980s movies from Carolco Pictures, a.k.a. Anabasis Investments. One of these is the series of "Rambo" movies of the decade, though "First Blood" is much deeper and more dramatic of a film than its more action-oriented sequels. Other examples include "Red Heat," and "Extreme Prejudice."
"Airplane!" as that movie really served as a send-off of the 1970s and that decade's slate of disaster films. Speaking of that film, there's also "Top Secret!" and the first "The Naked Gun" movie.
"WarGames" and "Blue Thunder." Great films from director John Badham.
John Carpenter's films of that decade, including "Escape from New York," "Big Trouble in Little China," and "Starman."
Michael Mann's films of that decade, particularly "Thief" and "Manhunter."
James Cameron's films of that decade, including "The Terminator," "Aliens," and "The Abyss."
      "Transformers: The Movie"
      "Taps"
      "Ordinary People"
      "Risky Business"
      "Monster Squad"
      "Spaceballs"
The James Bond films of that decade, which would feature Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton as 007. "For Your Eyes Only," "Octopussy," "A View to a Kill," "The Living Daylights," and "Licence to Kill." You could also include "Moonraker," but that was from the late 1970s and it shows, and it was also released after the success of "Star Wars."
"The Untouchables." This is one of the few films that was truly excellent from director Brian De Palma, IMO.
Both "Caddyshack" and "Caddyshack 2." "Caddyshack 2" is not as great of a film as the first, but it's still a fun watch ... and it's a guilty pleasure of mine.
Many 1980s films starring Tom Hanks, such as "Bachelor Party," "Dragnet," "Joe versus the Volcano," and "Turner and Hooch."
Live action and animated films from the Walt Disney Company, such as "Tron," "Flight of the Navigator," "The Black Cauldron," "Oliver & Company," "The Little Mermaid," "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," and even "The Black Hole" to an extent, even though that came out in 1979.
Any of the "Star Trek" movies featuring the original series cast, particularly 2, 3, and 4. The 1st movie is from 1979 and is okay, but kind of plodding. The 5th movie is okay, but not the finest in the series. The 6th film is excellent, but that came out in 1991.
      "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters 2."
"Heavy Metal," an animated Canadian/American film.
"American Pop," an animated American film directed by Ralph Bakshi.
Pretty much any Jerry Bruckheimer/Don Simpson production, including "Top Gun," the first two "Beverly Hills Cop" movies, and "Flashdance."
The original "Robocop" movie from 1987.
The original "Red Dawn" movie from 1983-1984.
      "Cloak and Dagger."
      "D.A.R.Y.L."
Any of Joe Dante's films from the decade, such as "Gremlins," "Explorers," "Innerspace," and "The Burbs."
"Die Hard" and "Die Hard 2."
And what would the 80s be without mentioning some of the films from Golan-Globus? Sure, those aren't the best films, but they did help to define the decade of the 80's and they are fun to watch in their own right. "The Delta Force," all of the "Missing in Action" movies, "Invasion USA," "Lifeforce," and "Death Wish 2," "Death Wish 3," and "Death Wish 4."
I've mentioned a lot of films already, but there are so many more, so I'll stop here.
Needless to say, the 1980s were pretty much like the second golden era of American cinema.

This is my favorite song from the film, and I was surprised they never released an official soundtrack. You'd think Sally Dworsky would've put it on one of her albums, but evidently not. Hard to believe the film's almost 30 years old, and Jenny Lewis is 40! I'm 36 now, but it still blows my mind.

I'm traveling blind trapped in darkness
Kept trying to find easy rules to win the game
    Going round and round
    An old disguise
    So full of doubt
But I'm turning around 'cause now it's my time
I'm standing on the edge of tomorrow
    Leaving far behind my yesterdays
    Each shadow's disappearing
As morning light is near me
And tomorrow will be more than just another day
    I found my way
Been playing it safe for a long time
So afraid to find the courage to be me
    But with each new day
I finally learned to face the pain
Now it's time for a change
    I swear it's my turn
I'm standing on the edge of tomorrow
    Leaving far behind my yesterdays
    Each shadow's disappearing
As morning light is near me
And tomorrow will be more than just another day
    I found my way
    And now
    With a love I can't explain
    Somehow
He gave me faith to find the way
Standing on the edge of tomorrow
    Leaving far behind my yesterdays
    Each shadow's disappearing
As morning light is near me
And tomorrow will be more than just another day
    I found my way

This song makes me think of all the childhood friends I had in my neighborhood in the mid-late 80's and the good memories we had together. Song is almost like a farewell anthem to the 80's. Won't lie it get's me teary eyed. So much I miss. My heart still lives back there. Thank-you for re-producing this in probably the highest sound quality currently possible!
