Just bought my 2nd, 2nd gen ram. My biggest gripe with the the 2nd gen was lack of crew cab, and the radio... among all the other 2nd gen stuff. Definitely will be doing this
Appreciate the contribution on the video. You Have answered many of the questions that I had. Seeing that I have completely replaced my entire dash with a custom built wooden dash that I built for my 98 and installed in 2007. My install will be a bit different. Thanks again for all the points on the install.
I appreciate that you linked the radio installation kit. I had a very nice radio gifted to me that I wanted to use but had no way of fitting it in my truck. Thanks
Got my 96 5.2 sport magnum about 2-3 years ago, I'm third owner, and it kinda seemed like the perfect fit, seeing as the numerology was it had as many miles as the year I was born 92k just broke 136 recently... But uhh the main reason for the reply is I had ordered everything on your list, but the radio didn't come with the back plug in not the adapter but the part that plugs the adapter into the radio
Great video. Nice truck. I'm thinking about doing the same thing on my 97 3500. My headliner is toast and my grill looks just like that. Cup holder is gone but my dash is in one piece. Be prepared all the studs/bolts are going to snap off when you go to remove the grill.
That actually looks pretty factory! I’m installing an Eonon E39 unit in my 97 Ram Laramie, there was some surgery. But I had to install a replacement dash sub core and new dash panel, but the cutting of dash the bezel is about the same
I got the trim kit based on your video. The fitment issues are not the head units fault. The trim kit is slightly to small. I've tried a few double dins and they are all slightly to small.
I guess no one has had issues with the dash busting up because that support was removed? The top of my dash is all new, but I was just noticing that the support that gets cutout looks pretty important. :-|
I have a 99 Dodge Ram when you were cutting your dash I thought ohno but the end result looks good, did you also change out the speakers? My truck came with Infinity radio cd cassette.
Are those steps factory? and why did my tool box sit higher then my truck bed rails? But yours sits below yours. I had to remove it to add my tonneau cover.
Have you had people get ahold of you about the stereo you pulled out of the truck...i asked because there's a guy on UA-cam that has tried 3 different times to get a am fm CD player cassette tape player stereo but with a aux in installed in the front of the face of the stereo but he kept having issues with them,i think it's a mid 80's dodge truck i think his name is Jason anyway if you want to sell it you might consider getting ahold of him...
I’m doing a project build on 98 ram 1500 2wd I’m trying to figure what speakers to get. Is the sub good u think(ssl) And what door speakers u recommend I have the quad cab short bed larmine
This wouldn't work on a 12 valve cummins, reusing the existing screw holes, cutting an already 25+ yr old lower dash, no reinforcement, no way that dash is going to support it for much longer, just my 2 cents
I paid as much as you did for your head unit for my backup camera and the fucker won’t work… Neither will my music… I can listen to my radio through the speakers.. but I can’t link up Bluetooth and my apple car play won’t fuckin work either…. I’m pissed… and idk what to do… I bought this gorgeous truck and tore it apart and can’t put it back together….
Sorry but you and alot of other people are wrong. That is a 3rd generation a 1st Gen is from 1974 to 1980 and 2nd Gen is from 1981 to 1993 in the USA and 1995 in Canada and so that puts your truck a 3rd Gen. And I know this because I have worked on them since they were new all generation up until this last one because it came out after I retired. So stop listening to what others are calling them
I know some people don’t like that body style Ram but it’s one of my favorites. Especially ones that are in good condition like yours.
They’re good looking trucks
@@RealSteelFabrications yep 👍

No problem, glad to help!
Clean truck bro , just bought a 97 with 91k miles one owner .!!!!! All stock 2wd same interior as yours !
Thanks! That’s awesome, sounds like a good one.

What did you do to make the radio fit with the hold downs that can with the black bezel peace, I’m trying to install mine can’t get it to fit
That actually looks pretty factory! I’m installing an Eonon E39 unit in my 97 Ram Laramie, there was some surgery. But I had to install a replacement dash sub core and new dash panel, but the cutting of dash the bezel is about the same
Turned out good for aftermarket

Ohh good to know
For no more than you have in it sounded great
Sounds much better in person, but ya, not disappointed that’s for sure!
I can here it definitely that awesome. I got a little skar 6.5 subwoofer in mine. Anyways love the truck man.
Thanks 👍
Great info thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
@@RealSteelFabrications it was thank you.
Could you do a tutorial on how to hook up the radio or like post a pic
Could you possibly do a video on how you hooked up that amp/sub?
I have two second gens lol a single cab long bed, also a 97 lol so thanks for the video haha . And a 2000 extended cab. Love those trucks.
That is one clean truck. Looks mint.
thanks!

GOOD job Son '''' your grand papa is ''verry'' proud of you'''' ''''''' live-on and Dream Good ''''''' .
Great video
Thanks
does the blue tooth adapter allow you to play your own music from your phone and or youtube. also love the tan dashboard. mines grey and boring
Yes, allows you to play just like regular blue tooth
I have a 99 Dodge Ram when you were cutting your dash I thought ohno but the end result looks good, did you also change out the speakers? My truck came with Infinity radio cd cassette.
speakers have been changed
Do your steering wheel buttons work on the new radio? Did you have to do any extra wiring for it? You didn’t show the wiring for the radio
it does not have controls for the steering wheel
Are those steps factory? and why did my tool box sit higher then my truck bed rails? But yours sits below yours. I had to remove it to add my tonneau cover.
What color is the wire for the reverse wire?
If I remember right, purple. There should be a wire diagram if you search it up
Do you have a wiring diagram for this radio the colors of the wires aren't matching up
Show us more, I have a very similar one
What would you like to see? I did a review video here recently where I show it some more. Thanks for watching!
Hey bro. How many inches is that screen? I'm looking to run a 9 inch in my 97.
Can you show me your wiring? Idk if I’m getting this right?
I put a wiring diagram in the video
Dual and boss especially dual electronics are probably better options for cheap headunits
This one works great!

Will that kit work for a 1998 also?
As long as you have the same dash, I do not remember if they changed in 1998 or 1999.
update on head unit ???
Has been great! No complaints
Is it brown or dark
Burgundy?
Brown!
Would it work with a 99 model
Stereo will. Believe you have to get a different installation kit though
I’m doing a project build on 98 ram 1500 2wd
I’m trying to figure what speakers to get.
Is the sub good u think(ssl)
And what door speakers u recommend
I have the quad cab short bed larmine
how is this worken now?
Like new
What muffler do you have?
Off-brand flowmaster. Believe they’re called sound flow.
How’s the double din been working for you?
Great!
What are problems with engine light?
O2 sensor
Cummins swap time!
I wish
This wouldn't work on a 12 valve cummins, reusing the existing screw holes, cutting an already 25+ yr old lower dash, no reinforcement, no way that dash is going to support it for much longer, just my 2 cents
holding up just fine
What brand stereo is that
Doesn’t even have a brand
2nd generation means 2nd generation cummins not dodge
Your is 3rd or 4 dodge
true
I paid as much as you did for your head unit for my backup camera and the fucker won’t work…

I was on board until I heard "the ashtray will disappear"
cigs ain't good for ya
@@RealSteelFabrications but they certainly do feel good 😊
15:56 cup holder not functional. It never was. lol.
you want to ''sell me'' the old radio''
It’s gone

google it buddy
2nd Gen Dodge trucks are from 1994 to 2002.
3rd Gen Dodge trucks are from 2002 to 2009
Could you possibly do a video on how you hooked up that amp/sub?
