Mother Genki had a good appetite. She weighed 242lb, 110 kg even in the morning. After dinner, it would be plus 7lb, 3 kg, so it would be about 250lb, 113 kg. It seems that the cavity treatment was a great success. And looking back to the fact that a long time ago, Genki dropped to 133lb, 60 kg, it is pleasing to see her weight increase so much.

He is hesitant in new situations and is a loner.
His father died before he was born, and he had never spent time with a silverback.
He had already turned into a silverback by the time he was 10 years old.
He is struggling with unfamiliar child-rearing.
MOMOTARO's father is BIJU.
MOMOTARO's mother is MOMOKO
Mother GENKI ♀ (1986/6/24)
She is 14 years older than Momotaro and has a role to support the whole family mentally.
She has had a tumultuous and eventful life.
She has returned to her birthplace, Kyoto City Zoo.
She had never been blessed with a baby but after meeting Momotaro,
she had two sons.
She is a very maternal female gorilla.
GENKI's father is MAKK.
GENKI's mother is HIROMI.
First son GENTARO, male (2011/12/21)
He was separated from his mother Genki soon after he was born.
Genki's milk production was not very good.
He was raised by his keeper for his first10 months.
Because of this, he is very fond of humans.
His face is so expressive, and everyone enjoys watching him.
Second son KINTARO ♂ (2018/12/19)
He is just very strong-willed and independent.
He has big eyes and long eyebrows.
The way he plays a lot with his brother Gentaro makes everyone smile.
We can't wait to see what kind of gorilla he'll become!

I know Genki gets food treats when she does her health care training with her keeper. And I trust her keepers will monitor her weight, as well as her health, and restrict her nighttime food, if needed. But, this is the healthiest I have seen Genki in a long time. She climbs to more places, including the ceiling more often. Her fur is healthy and pretty. And she isn't walking around with diarrhea stains on her back end. Perhaps knowing Genki's life story makes her special to me. Freddy (Cleveland) is another special female gorilla, for her loving nature. And Tayari (Taiwan), too, for her playfulness.

💕 Genki 💕. If baby Jameela had been placed in front of Genki, I am certain that Genki would have picked her up and become her adoptive mother. However, Freddie is doing a super job. All these gorillas….I love them all.

It is nice to see Gentaro and Momotaro resting in such close proximity without any conflict. Do you think that Gentaro will grow taller than Momotaro? His back legs look so tall.
If they can get Gentaro out of there and into a bachelor troop….I think he’ll grow even bigger than Momo. He doesn’t have the vampire teeth (canines) yet…he has them, but they’re small. Momo’s are much longer and deadlier. I guess that takes a few years.

Genki is finally feeling good due to having her cavities taken care of,and now putting on.weight😊
The dental treatment was long overdue, but she looked better and was more nimble when she was thinner. I think the zookeepers overdid feeding Genki because they love her. She should not be getting extra feedings now, as the extra weight is limiting her activity.

Well, she sure moves FAST when husband and son( older) fights.lol she be running like crazy to protect her son.
It's ok to have a little extra weight..but as you get older, it's harder to take that weight off...it increases your blood pressure, it's harder on your joints and ligaments too..and that's all the more your heart needs to pump blood..so as long as she's in a healthy range, it's ok. But too much extra is not.
I don't know the range of an older gorilla female.

@@user-gu8xr1er5g The zookeepers love Genki and have admittedly overfed her after her recovery. They mentioned she is about 20 pounds heavier than she should be, ideally. I believe we all want what is best for this entertaining family of gorillas. We are admirers from all over the world with our love for these creatures in common!

6:50 I always wonder if Kintaro will still be so roly-poly when he is an adult silverback. I try to imagine other 400 pound silverbacks like Momo or Shabani launching into somersaults or twirling around with their arms out, for no other reason than the pure joy of it. Or I try to imagine one of them sitting in the wood box and repeatedly piling armfuls of straw on their heads. Whatever happens I believe Kintaro will be a very unique adult.
