I used to play in a junkyard just like that when I was a kid. There was a big hole in the fence and Sundays were perfect. We would find cars that would roll and there was this hill and well, we shouldn't have done it but we would plan on what to smash into. Hornets nests were a problem with some of those old cars!
I noticed many of the 50s vintage cars had 1968 license plates. That was a great time to be buying 50s cars. People would practically give them away. How things have changed.
Yes, that was a good time, too. I had a few opportunities to pick up great cars for a song back then, but was worried about gas like just about everyone else. It was obviously a mistake.
The shot is 1.5h drive from Minneapolis near a city called Annadale. French lake autoparts. They have previously had about 13000 classic. But on my last visit this summer, a large number of people were missing. Probably pressed. When I was there 2009 there was a lot more..Syn! !. They have a website where you can order parts. Maybe you can buy a whole spare part. If the car you saw at 3.28 I know very little ..
Hey I live 45 min from there and it's in Annandale, MN the junkyards name is French Lake Auto Salvage. You can buy the car or just rip parts off of it for a project. Here is their website www.frenchlakeautoparts.com/index1.htm
The big problem for these cars are vandals who jump fences and get in somehow. First thing these punks do is break the glass on these old cars as well as open the doors, hoods, trunks, all of this allows mother nature in, the rain, snow, dust and dirt . This leads to rust, rot, damage from all kinds of critters . the best way to preserve the old iron is keep it closed up and in a barn garage or whatever, Keep the Vandals out of your place.
Wow, Some great shots here of some Real favourites of mine. '59 Chevy wagon, Olds., '57 Lincoln. I love junk yards. Another reason why I hate Obama however, and I have yet to learn anything positive whatsoever regarding 'Cash4Clunkerz' scheme. What a bloody waste of iconic vehicles.
+MungoidHen CASH FOR CLUNKERS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSTY ABANDONED OLD CARS THAT WAS FOR CARS THAT WERE RUNNING USUALLY NEWER MODELS THAT WERE STILL ON THE ROAD
daniel rivera I remember seeing an video of how this yard was having to wreck the engines of cars from early 90's Roadmasters/Lincolns . with some abrasive stuff &/or emptying the oil... But CFC had nothing to do with classic in scrapyards disappearing so quickly during the last few years ? ?
+daniel rivera your right but the scrap prices a few years ago took its toll. at around $300 a ton every stock pile of classic cars where i live are gone. they were safe for years because there was no way to get them. but with prices so high these kids would rent bulldozers and drag them out to the road and haul them in for scrap.
carminefast77 Yes, Effectively, scrap is scrap is scrap. Maybe the CFC scheme was not originally designed for older cars, but enough people in the US have blamed this scheme directly for the disappearance of yard after yard of classic vehicles all over the country. This was my original point. Thanks for your feedback, I am glad we're both right.
+MungoidHen because they are old cars with no emmissions standards and the goverment wants any modified cars and trucks disposed of you can thank the EPA
I would like to make a request of you here if you don't mind. Can you completely erase/delete the music here in the video of yours and replace it with the song "Breakdown" by Daughtry ? Would you consider doing this ? I just think it would be a better song choice and the theme of the song would fit much better with the cars in the salvage yard in my opinion. If you do this for me then I would add this to my liked videos. Just asking, Thanks.
Some sweet ol' girls in that yard, Brings back some memories!
Beatiful air out car museum. I have memories for this piece of history
Thanks
