Well I never expected this video to get as much reach and views as it has so I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to watch and comment and share this experience. I would like to plug my landscape photography here quick. I am a full-time landscape photographer and if that is something you like, please check out my Instagram instagram.com/joryvgphoto/ or my website joryvandergalien.com/ My plan was to always make UA-cam channel about photography and that is coming for sure but this weather event was an experience I will never forget so I had a make this video and share it. This storm was like no other for us. Trees everywhere were torn to pieces, and power out (for me anyway) for four days in 95-100 degree heat with matching humidity. Some STILL don't have power and may have to wait another 2-3 days. A fallen tree hit my house & did extensive damage. Luckily no one died.
So one thing that I think really saved many Omaha neighborhoods is the huge trees. I really believe were it not for the big huge trees we would have seen much more structural damage
We’re severe weather weary at this point here in Eastern Nebraska. My hometown, Omaha, takes another hit. We weren’t spared here in Lincoln. 92 mph knocked many of us offline and clean up continues. Hope everyone’s power has been restored. Excellent footage btw. Stay safe everyone!
This is really a good video.... no real talking and you kept us focused, not spinning the camera all around I tell you I can't believe that tree on the left and the tree on the right did not go down! I was glad you kept going back and forth because I thought for sure the one on the left was going.... those are some tough trees
I find it very sad to see those beautiful trees damaged and destroyed. I see that the kids loved the adventure of it all, as I did at that age. As you grow up you appreciate your environment, and mourn when what is safe and familiar is taken away. Very pleased that all of you are safe.
We had a whole house full of family with small kids for a small family gathering. The kids thought it was great. I’m the storm guy of the family so if everyone took comfort that I was ok on the porch (mostly due in part per the direction of the wind) but if they saw I was panicked or run to the basement then they knew we were in real trouble. There was a few hair raising moments however when the bursts of wind came as there was a sort of suction like a vacuum in the spot. Over all the kids loved it and the family was ok. Omaha however was not spared the wrath of this storm. Omaha has a huge urban tree canopy. I firmly believe that tree canopy is what spared a lot of structural damage. The trees took the abuse of this wind storm and yes it was a pretty significant loss.
This wind storm was terrifying. Somehow managed to keep my power, but everyone around was out. A few trees in front of my apartment lost some limbs, but none completely came down.
Thank you for being brave/stupid enough to record this, I was in my basement shitting myself. (traumatized from the April 26th tornado in Elkhorn this year)
I got off work right when this hit. I drove to lowes to seek shelter and opened my car door but it was held open by the wind and I could barely close it. I decided to stay in the car until it "blew over" but then they announced a tornado warning. I knew I couldn't walk to the entrance from my parking spot so I parked in a loading zone and was able to take shelter inside lowes thankfully. Later had to remove my tree and there was no power for five days.
I was in this. My friends truck got TOTALED by their tree falling on it. This was purely devastating. Our power didn't come on till 2 am the next morning. I'm really blessed that we didn't have a power outage like some other families did. Prayers for all.
This windstorm was terrible, out here in Millard. We were hit HARD I've seen about 10-20 trees uprooted, our fence has 2 ENTIRE sides down, many branches down, a lot ended up in our pool, luckily the pool didn't break but it was just crazy
All I was expecting on that day was a little bit of rain and nothing too crazy but I was wrong by far. I looked out my window and heard a little bit of thunder so I went to one of the lowest floors in my house and was sitting on my couch until I got a severe thunderstorm warning. When I got that severe thunderstorm warning, I knew that the severe storm was approaching. I thought I had heard a little bit of hail at times, but there was 2 times that lightning struck close to my house. One made the back door shake and the house shake, and the other one had struck right next to my neighbors house. I got sent footage of the lightning striking right next to my neighbors house and I saw that the grass was on fire for a second, and when the lightning struck, it covered the whole camera white for a second. The sky got green and foggy so I kept worrying more than I did during the April 26th tornado. This severe thunderstorm was probably more dangerous than the April 26th tornado. I still remember that this severe thunderstorm had hurricane winds. At first my phone said it was 80mph winds but it then got up to 100mph. I have big trees behind my backyard and they survived that storm. I think a few branches fell off the trees. Also, my lights only flickered and I didn’t lose my power. I remember I was in school until 4:00 or 5:00 for the April tornado, one of the lights went out in my school. Otherwise, the lights at my school and my house were flickering from hail or wind. But this storm was no joke!
You’re exactly right Kim. The whole family was watching me actually. I’m the storm guy of the family and if I showed panic or thought there was an imminent threat then everyone would have panicked. So I kept it cool and the kids as a result were having fun. Thank you
That day was insanity. I felt real bad for you guys cause this hit just after you were able to process what happened in April. I remember it blowing through Omaha and thinking "KC is fine", but then a few hours later, I found myself spotting our very own destructive line of storms. Exploding powerlines dotted the horizon like paparazzi at times.
a bit late but people this is why it is the MOST important thing to make sure you have home owners or renters insurance on your property and quarterly take pictures of everything inside and out. i would hate to see a working american or retired lose everything without support. BUT be certain the policy includes act of nature clauses, a lot will say full covered but does not include tornados, hurricanes and major storms.
Mother nature was cleaning house. She was throwing things in all directions. But, wow you guys have beautiful trees there. I hope there wasn't too much damage to your property. (Ohiio)
Those straight line winds can be scary. I had part of my big tree in the back fell on my house. It crashed into my bedroom and bathroom 😢 I wasn't home at the time. I had just paid my house off a few months earlier 😢
You’re right… I think the only other storms that would top this one would be the 1976 tornado that literally went up 72nd street and the far western Omaha/Elkhorn tornado this spring. But this was so wildly different. I’ll never forget the sounds of those winds in the upper atmosphere. Pure power!
Wow, this is reminiscent of hurricanes. I would want to film something like this since I am like a storm chaser. hopefully no one got hurt and the damages wasnt too hard to fix.

It wasn't that bad here in Lincoln, tho there was a lot of tree damage, but not structural. Houses with dented roof's and sone power outages, but that's about it. The highest wind gust I saw was 49 MPH at UNL out in a field, but 83 at the airport. Thankfully we got by here pretty well.
Great video! Hopefully, you and your surrounding people aren't having to fix/spend too much. It's crazy how all it takes is one storm to alter your environment you've known for so long.
That is so so so true. We just drove in with my wife and kids from New Mexico to visit my sisters in Omaha with so many plans but literally as soon as we were getting into town, the storm was barreling down on us. We didn’t even have proper hugs and greetings yet and the storm hit. So yes all of our plans changed in an instant. All 3 of my sisters didn’t have power for 5 days but my sister who’s house this video was made at just got power today! It was a great coming together time as well as high stress. A storm we’ll all soon never forget
