A Day At Horseshoe Bend in 2016
I recently came back from a trip to Page AZ making some new work in and around the area. Very excited about the new work coming soon for you all to see. And even though, over the years I continue to drive through Page on other photographic pursuits, I made Page one of my latest destinations to update my portfolio.
When I was at Horseshoe Bend, I could not help but be reminded of how vastly different it was compared to 2016. Let's just say, boon-docking at Horseshoe Bend is definitely a thing of the past. Now there is an entrance fee of $10 (every time you enter I might add) with a "seemingly" pretty well organized parking lot. Also a pretty nice manicured trail to the bend itself. Oh and now there is a concrete viewing platform with railings over my old favorite tripod location so I had to set up to the right a little more.
Not complaining... just an observation. I understand the "why" but looking back at this time-lapse I made of day at Horseshoe Bend, it really made me miss the simplicity of this place before Instagram really popularized this view. But even then when I made this short video, it was very popular and that is what I was trying to convey then. Now, it's just over the top, no mystery anymore but the view is still as beautiful as it ever was!

Omaha NE Severe Storm & Wind Event July 31 2024

Severe weather event on July 31st 2024 in Omaha NE. 90-100 mph winds were officially recorded with unofficial reports of over 100 mph with private home weather stations. The storm seemed upon my observation to have multiple downbursts and microbursts that are recorded just in this video but also very evident of the damage from one neighborhood to the next. The storm at peak claimed 220,000 home...

    a bit late but people this is why it is the MOST important thing to make sure you have home owners or renters insurance on your property and quarterly take pictures of everything inside and out. i would hate to see a working american or retired lose everything without support. BUT be certain the policy includes act of nature clauses, a lot will say full covered but does not include tornados, hurricanes and major storms.

    That day was insanity. I felt real bad for you guys cause this hit just after you were able to process what happened in April. All I was expecting on that day was a little bit of rain and nothing too crazy but I was wrong by far. I looked out my window and heard a little bit of thunder so I went to one of the lowest floors in my house and was sitting on my couch until I got a severe thunderstorm warning. When I got that severe thunderstorm warning, I knew that the severe storm was approaching. I thought I had heard a little bit of hail at times, but there was 2 times that lightning struck close to my house. One made the back door shake and the house shake, and the other one had struck right next to my neighbors house. I got sent footage of the lightning striking right next to my neighbors house and I saw that the grass was on fire for a second, and when the lightning struck, it covered the whole camera white for a second. The sky got green and foggy so I kept worrying more than I did during the April 26th tornado. This severe thunderstorm was probably more dangerous than the April 26th tornado. I still remember that this severe thunderstorm had hurricane winds. At first my phone said it was 80mph winds but it then got up to 100mph. I have big trees behind my backyard and they survived that storm. I think a few branches fell off the trees. Also, my lights only flickered and I didn’t lose my power. I remember I was in school until 4:00 or 5:00 for the April tornado, one of the lights went out in my school. Otherwise, the lights at my school and my house were flickering from hail or wind. But this storm was no joke!

I decided to stay in the car until it "blew over" but then they announced a tornado warning. DAMAGING CHILDREN THROUGH OUR ACTIONS Don't swear and get to over excited in front of the children. They (kids) pick this stuff up. Their brains are absorbing at a much faster rate than adults. If you panic, the children will learn to do the same later in life. Thats not good. Mothers seem to be more aware of this than fathers. Men are loud, noisy and their testosterone always gets in the way of thinking things through.

    I find it very sad to see those beautiful trees damaged and destroyed. I see that the kids loved the adventure of it all, as I did at that age. As you grow up you appreciate your environment, and mourn when what is safe and familiar is taken away. Very pleased that all of you are safe.

    • @joryvgphoto
      @joryvgphoto 4 місяці тому

      We had a whole house full of family with small kids for a small family gathering. The kids thought it was great. I’m the storm guy of the family so if everyone took comfort that I was ok on the porch (mostly due in part per the direction of the wind) but if they saw I was panicked or run to the basement then they knew we were in real trouble. There was a few hair raising moments however when the bursts of wind came as there was a sort of suction like a vacuum in the spot. Over all the kids loved it and the family was ok. Omaha however was not spared the wrath of this storm. Omaha has a huge urban tree canopy. I firmly believe that tree canopy is what spared a lot of structural damage. The trees took the abuse of this wind storm and yes it was a pretty significant loss.
