This is so profoundly unsatisfying. Fr Corbett literally says at 41:37 that the interpretive tradition that reinterprets “soon” in God’s time (1000 years is like one day) makes it “true but basically meaningless”. Then he concludes at 45:00 by saying that’s exactly what we have to do anyway, giving the example of a 70 year old looking back on his teens as though it was just a moment. So fr’s conclusion is that Christian eschatology is “true but basically meaningless to us”. Cool.
