Just started skating seriously again and I found your channel. One of the only ones that still upload, your a really humble guy and I appreciate the vids
No other UA-camr is so detailed and focused in their analysis and articulation about setups, your channel has been a godsend! I skated from about 2003-2010 and stopped to focus on work and music (and partying, go figure! I'd never seen a bong until the loading screen of the Really Sorry DVD!) but your channel has brought back the excitement (and confidence!) I used to have in my teens. About a year before lockdown my life took a big shift that required me to stay at home pretty much 24/7 but setting up a new board and getting out of the house again never felt so good. THANK YOU! Keep up the excellent content and I hope you and yours are doing excellent, much love brother 🙏 P.S. Those boots....about popped a lung laughing! Rode my new board with hightop leather boots for a sesh or two before I got my new Vans...I was instantly out for a week+ with a bruised achilles tendon, never again~!
You should definitely do a video on indy hollow vs standard when you get the chance!! Just found you channel a couple days ago and I've watched a solid amount of your videos. They are super informative and technical which is hard to find in skating. I ride 149 hollows right now on an 8.5 and it was bulky at first but i got used to it quickly. Probably move back down to an 8.38 for my next setup though.
I just picked up Independent 144s today. Still haven't fully skated my independent hollow 149. side note. I'm a handy man and I first found the carpenter channel before I realized you skated and had this channel earlier this year or late last year. Anyways you've opened my mind to truck/deck combinations/experiments and now I have a truck fetish lol Embarrassingly enough I've been skating 16 years and realized most of the time my trucks were smaller than my board width and I didn't pay much attention to truck sizes until this year. Anyways I Love the Content!
Thank you Ben, I have made many good buying decisions thanks to your reviews and you feedback. Keep up the great job! On another note, I have noticed that indies perform way better if you use a slightly smaller board than you are "supposed to". For instance, I use 149mm on my 8.38, and 139 on my 8.0 and they work like a charm, way better than the 139mm on 8.25, and 149mm on 8.5.
Great, comprehensive review with the trucks on so many board-sizes! Very good to know, that they are so flexible to use. Cool skating clips, too. Especially the one at the end. :D Thanks a lot!
you cheeky cheeky man, had us all thinking something horrible happened to your DIY ledge, hiding that heartbreak from us all. With that and last weeks existential crisis explanation, I'm really into the way your channel is progressing my dude. Keep it was the fuck up!
Nice!!! The UBC footage was like a contest run.... I’m riding the 149 hollow forged Indy’s with bones bushings and I love them! Favourite truck so far.
Nice review Ben. These have been my trucks for the last few months and I love them, switched from the 129. Combined with bones bushings and Birdhouse 8.25 its the goldilocks.
Hello Ben a fellow dad here that just got back into skating and was wondering if you could do a review on the newer Tensor Mag light trucks? Thanks your videos are awesome and super informative.
I've been skating thunder hollows for a few years now; trying out the caliber standard 9" truck though makes me want to maybe try an indie once more since caliber does not make 8.75 axle trucks and that is what I skate. The grinds feel so nice in transition on those 9s though. So much heavier, but also very satisfying.
Dude I’ve been so ocd about everything except board size. I just recently got back into the life, and have been going nuts on which truck and wheels to skate. Ended up buying 3 decks, 2 sets of Indy stage 11 standard (144 & 149). 3 sets of wheels (spitfire classics 58m 80hd, the formula 4 conical 56m 101a, and finally the BONES 54mm X97) 😢😢😂😂😂😂 Now I just have a mini skate shop, but this is the most comprehensive video that exists on this topic. I’m glad i didn’t waste my money. Well those 101a full conicals were definitely a waste of $46.
@@boogie.. sweet! I don't know if it's just me, the the top washer keeps cutting into the bushing. I skate the nut flush with the kingpin so its that it's too tight. I've ran through 4 sets in 2 months. I've lost hope with Independent. Never had these issues with Royal or thunder.
While I'm not trying to avoid your vids & neither am I trying to seek them out specifically... YT's algorithm seems to get me where I need to go. This was not the review I was looking for (even though the title is nigh exactly what I searched lol), but I'm psyched to have seen it bc trying to match a new board to years-old Indy 144s and bc Ben has more skills in his little toe than I do in my entirety, I'm glad for yt's ideas. Still, every day is skate day - no snow, no slush sorts of days - in Sun City. So hey Ben, if you ever want to come south of the border, I'm a fan of my town bc 1) it's 12 mos of motorcycle weather (aka skate goodness) + 2) 10 mos of swimming weather (just to give #1 some legit perspective). C'mon down, y'all. ;-)
Hi Ben, thank you for all your content. Question, the standard Indy's are 55 mm tall, whereas the forged hollows are 53.5 mm tall. Is the difference in height in the baseplate? Based on the pics of the trucks it looks like the baseplate is shorter on the forged hollows.
Just won some on a ebay auction. They were just skated a month and I got them for like 50 bucks (which is cheap in Sweden atleast). Now my 7,75" trucks kan rest a bit when I want to go up in board width :D
Thanks Ben. Has anybody sent you the new tensor all terrain trucks?I am setting up an 8 3/8 . And want to buy a truck that could go down to 8 if I want . I am split between the Thunder 148 or Independent 144 forged hallow . Just coming off of a broken clavicle so taking it easy, small transition and more flat land and curb skating. Skating on the job site👍🏼
Great Skating Ben! Quick question for you...when you boardslide a ledge, do you lock the baseplate of the truck/the back wheels up against the side of the ledge? Or do you make sure to hang the back wheels off the ledge? Its difficult to tell in the video when you do the backside board slide on the ledge if your back wheels are locked up against it or not. On one hand, I can see how doing that would lock you in better but on the other hand, the friction of the deck and all 4 wheels against the ledge seems like a lot of friction. Just wondering what you think the best way to do that is.
Anyone notice that a lot of these indys sold on Amazon don’t have the cross stamp on the front . I bought two pairs . 159 stage 11 and 144 mid Tiago lemos pro models and neither have the stamp on the base plate
Hi Ben just picked up 144 Leo Romero Independent Hollows n im loving it. Works great with my Active 8.3 board. Plus i just got back into skating n i love watching ur channel keep up the great work bud your awesome 👍🤙🏼.
Have you watched the latest BS with TG with Chico Brenes? Just wondered how you feel about him saying that board size doesn’t matter as long as the wheel base is what you’re used to? Interested to hear your thoughts
Hey Ben, I’m still not too sure whether to get 144s or 149s for my 8.25. I’m looking at the titanium’s for either but I’m not sure which one to go with. I live in SF and go down hills most of the day, which do you think might be better ?
I would consider whether you want to ever go up or down in deck size. If you might want to go up to 8.38 or 8.5 get 149. If you like 8.25 and might want to go down in deck size stick with 144.
Hey Ben I recently started a healthy living diet(I wanna skate as long as I can) and am wondering if you have any recommendations when it comes to food recipes? Nice review by the way 🙂
@Tendo Pain they were pretty high trucks but they had the best kingpin clearance i’ve ever seen. It doesnt even come close. Paired best with a mellow board or with small wheels. They’re hard to come by. I know some higher end santa cruz or arbor completes will come with em

I got these on an 8.125 and its purrfect. Mostly skate 8.25s or 8.18s with 44 aces, two washers or one depending on the deck width
