INDY MOVED TO CHINA!!! Should you switch to Venture TOO? (Venture High 5.6 Review)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лип 2024
- A lot of people were pretty bummed when Independent Trucks moved full production to China. Venture highs were the first truck most people thought as an alternative. Especially when long time Indy rider Bobby Worrest switched to venture and put out an awesome part . But the real question remains, "How do these trucks FEEL?". Watch to find out!

Daewon would like to have a word with you about "can't get them any looser".
Exactly what I was thinking.
Bucky Ò'Donnaighle Haha nailed it
Bucky Ò'Donnaighle he's not normal haha
Daewon is just so legendary he needed to hinder himself haha.
can take the washers off
I got to thank you a lot by the way, Ben Dregos. You motivated me to leave the house at night time and skate again after 12 years. And I landed my first Kickflips. I never learnt it in the past, only Heelflips.
Way to go man
@@veightrwd8828 yes, maybe I am not too untalanted for skateboarding. But as a teenager I had no UA-cam. Makes a buge difference. But I still feel not confident to skate at fay time in the public, as long as I am still bad. But I continue practicing for sure. 😊
Congrats man
@@TIJEY-BEG yo, fuck the haters! You don't gotta be landing everything all the time to skate in the daylight in front of others, if you're having fun that's all that matters!
This right here is what it’s all about. A rare occasion of social media that actually pushes people to get outside and skate/exercise a bit, and to explore your city… unlike a Joe Rogan motivation video, many of which I’ve seen and was not inspired by.
Intelligent skate videos exist now thanks to you
I got to say I'm still finding the trucks and board that are just right for me. Your videos help a lot with that. Thanks for the information.
Me too but I think I just found the right set up. I went to the chunky anti hero to the light almost boards. Look skate different boards. I like indy trucks. So I look at boards that fit with indy trucks. Find different setups or find the trucks you like.
What's up Vancouver carpenter! You helped me out with my mudding technique and you skate! Hell yeah!
That frontside flip over the bin...so good. The sound of the board smacking your feet to catch, sublime.
The USA started skating, Indy's should keep it in the states. Epiphone is good but it's not a Gibson.
Epiphones used to be better than Gibson's way back they were 2 different companies and countless artist have used epiphones such as he Beatles and many others
MultiDragola Better is debatable but definitely comparable. Though I think he’s referring to Epiphone as it is now.
It shows you this country is going to shit.
Trying to make an analogy, who would trade their Gibson for an Epiphone. I still like Indy's. Bolt on necks👎
Epiphone was around a long time before Gibson.
Most underrated skate channel on UA-cam!!! Thank you 🙏
Yo Ben, I've been watching your sheetrock videos for a while but never checked out your skate videos. I'm 42. Been skating for 30 years, and I've had a house painting business for 22 years. We got a lot in common, but I don't have the patience to make UA-cam videos, so I'm glad you're representing the skate and painting/sheetrock world! Keep it up brother!
Same
Until they start making them out of Chinese maple, I'll keep slipping over chipped pool tiles on 149 hollows until I'm old enough to loose my independence.
Eamonn King Back that!
this comment was rad as fuck!
@@recession81 could well be, 8".38' board on 149 hollows makes for good at flippy stunts
@@killmyface12Because its lighter for sure but I ride 7.75-8.0 decks so I got indy 139 standards and they're pretty light because its smaller in size
@@killmyface12 Never tried the hollows I just worry about breaking them because I like doing drops sometimes and ive broken alot of trucks couldnt imagine hollows lasting me more than 2 weeks
Tearin' them things up!!! Perfect review video!
Ben you're getting really good and I think you know it! great skating man, u always make me feel so guilty because I should be out there everyday I have no excuse.
Your truck review videos never get old
Pretty excellent breakdown . Your analytical ability is pretty dope man. Love your videos.
I always watch your stuff and laugh. Always enjoy your skating too. Your a beast. You broke my heart today sir. Coulda gone the rest of my days being blissfully unaware of indys move.
I had no idea Indy moved until I got new trucks.

Great video. Great info. You do a great job. I agree with people who say this is the most underrated skate channel.
Ben is definitely the most underrated skate channel
You were right about Spitfires F4 btw!! Sorry for those of you who will never know the joys of F4’s.
@martin gonzalez formula fours are tight i rode them exclusively for 4 or so years. Now im on some ricta clouds which are more of a medium hard wheel. Im on the 92a durometer right now and I dont think I'll ever skate another wheel they feel so soft on these gritty streets and they dont feel any different at the park. Im actually gonna go a bit softer on the same line. Try out the 92a ricta clouds, I love them.
Juwan Chalmers bett
@@illiasaugustus2026 I had the ricta clouds 92a they were cool. I don't know what I did with them though lol. Now I ride Ricta naturals and I love them, I've had formula fours, bones spf and stf and I like the Ricta naturals more.
transferz bones all day!
Yeah I’d make the switch venture has been my number 1 truck since I was a kid
good to see you're starting to get the exposure you deserve.
Thanks!
Great video and high production value as always!
I have tons of respect for you because your around my age and have a job and you still manage to find time to skate..i work 247 and an injury will affect my job, so I skate small shit lol..i use to skate small stairs and rails but again I cannot afford to lose my job..
If Bobby switched to metal turds I would start skating metal turds.
😂😂😂😂😂
wax in the pivot cup! genius move ben i needed this 6 months ago, thanks for the skate-hack
WD-40 works too, word of warning though you don't need much!
@@asash4435 WD40 will make the bushings porous. Would not recommend that!
This is so helpful! I can’t figure out if I should switch to ventures or not. I started skating a year ago and went from thunders to Indys. I love my indys, but I’m thinking about switching. Like I said super helpful
Try Ventures they are very stable
Awesome as always Ben!
Nice review, brother! Also that huge pop shuv at the end. 👌
That was some dude named Dave:)
Seriously someone should sponsor you. Your skating is great and you are smart. Please keep these edits coming. Just one thing. Please always tell or explain the board and truck combination including wheelbase, concave and steepness of tail nose and their dimensions. All skatenerds wanna know that. I ride a Chocolate wb 14 with indy hollow trucks and the combination is just horrible although I really liked Girl Chocolate decks on Thunders..all the tricks came easy.
I’m sticking to my Indy 139s. Best truck that I’ve ever ridden.
chris purcell 139s feel too tall for how skinny they are, do u ride an 8?
marc flaherty I actually went to 144’s. And loving them. I ride an 8 or 8 12. Haven’t rode an 8 25 yet. I rode one back in the late 90s. I like bigger trucks. No bigger than .25 though. I rode 5.5 destructos n 5.5 grind Kings. But it’s indies 4 life !!! I love how they pack more hanger on those axels than other brands.
they mentioned your brother on the 9 club experience yesterday but they should be talking about you!

He’s back!!! I wait for your videos. Ps been riding ventures forever. Plus we got Yuto on. That’s enough for me.
DarkMatterBeatz yutos fucking insane hahaha
Venture has an amazing team.
Ben the skating is UNREAL!!!!
Finally I found the term for it. “Ghost pop”. I used to get that all the time on my board with thunder trucks
Did you get a board with mellower kicks or shorter wheelbase with those thunders?
Chris Joslin on the nine club talked about how he tried to tre flip El Toro and broke like 3 sets of ventures so he switched to indy (I think) . He basically said if the trucks didn't break he would have rolled away.
(may have been mentioned on the podcast "thrill of it all with Jamie Thomas" I can't fully recall! Pretty sure it was nine club though)
Corey Landowski isn’t he on Indy? Why would he have ventures? Ventures kingpins have broke on me in the past tho tbh
@@xExile7 he used to be on venture
He was on Indy before, went to venture, then back to Indy.
As if everyone that skates do huge stairs like el toro lol
Exactly, Indys are a good bang per buck and T Funk and certain styles they are probably the best but for a lot of people they are too heavy and bulky. I don't land 10 foot out on a rail at 20mph and land in a manner i need some super turn angle to carve out all stylish. Im on Thunder Titanium.
I always loved venture, absolutely great for grinding
Facts
Well done as always and dang you have some skills man. Ive been on Indys forever and the China thing IS a big deal to me at least, all 3 setups I have are all Indys and will ride em until there gone but my next truck purchase could be something else.
So did you give up indi’s and I’m seriously curious cause I didn’t even know this uh brill someone said something and I was like shit? It’s the principle with indi. I expected it from vans and others. But indi? These guys just continue to disappoint by changing cross logo, to now china made? It’s like Hardcore - gone pussy.
I feel like power Peralta or Santa Cruz should hire you to just feel their products and try them out and give them honest opinions. I don't know if these companies give out jobs like this and believe me I'm sure there's a so much more you could bring to the company. Something I think about when I watch your videos. You're very detailed and easy on the listener. I watch your videos all the time as I'm sure so many other people do, I'm just an old 43-year-old skater who got back into it after 20-year hiatus and I was drawn to your Channel for many reasons for being so transparent it's the main reason keep doing what you're doing bud I wish you and the family the best
Impressed with Ace so far myself.
i use riptide pivot cups and bones bushings however with the stock too washer instead of flat bones one. This combo on ventures make it work so well for me.
Something really satisfying about that 180 to switch 5-0. I wish I had the nerve to try that
That trick is actually quite easy if u grind only a little
@@konstakoivisto202 It's a scary trick on that ledge at my age
My Element Raws brought my WB out by +2.75” which is about the same as an Ace. On a 14” WB deck, my pop felt awfully light and low. Got myself some Venture 5.6 V lights and can’t wait to feel that snappy higher pop 🤞🏼 I’m hoping my kickflips don’t rocket as much because my nose should theoretically be higher/closer to me on Ventures
Good review. You should review some ace trucks I’ve been seeing them get more popular lately
I had a 8.4” -14.5” wb with indy 149 and when I ditched the indys I got the venture 5.8s, and mounted them to a 8.38” FA deck with a nice 14.12”wb, and it is super crisp and the pop is super explosive lol seriously so yeah I’m super happy
I love your truck videos, so could you please make a review of Ace trucks?
Tight turn. Best grind. Maybe a little less than ideal pinch but manageable
nice. cant blame the trux here, you shredded them with steez. killer halfpipe runz in the shallow end
Love your commitment to nitty gritty sk8 tech content. The squinting and end-of-video demeanor reminds me of Clint Eastwood, so I wouldn't mind if you replaced the baby-fat-man-child image for the channel with his (or an updated one). That said, you think you might consider critiquing Santa Cruz VX 8.0 (or 8.25) deck with truck preference relative to wheelbase and usual criteria?? Please and thank you!
I feel the exact opposite pop feel between Indys and thunders . With thunders the board feels really light and pops good. With the new Indys I got, pop feels really heavy and i get tons of ghost pop if I'm not super focused on my timing. Feels like I have to kick down way harder and delay my front foot slide motion or I'll just ghost pop. Been skating them for a few days and still trying to get used to it
He's doing his best, i can never tell which i like better because it's always a different time, different deck and wheels, different skate spots. I know i never got hurt riding Indys but i have more time on Thunders. Seems like i adapt to either one.
Thanks for your review Ben, if you can, you must try the Film Trucks ( the new brand of Jérémie Daclin founder of (rip) Cliché. ) I'm in love with my "salt and pepper" 5,5 Film Trucks, well i'm not really "objective" i'm a bit french...
Hi Ben! Thank you for the job. Great review and nice to see that venture keeps at a very high level. Indies will be indies, us skateboarding spirit will remain. A+ for the 180fs nose grind struggle👍😅
...and may your next session be your best session yet 😄😁
Like I've said many times before, best skate reviews ever in the history of the UA-cams.
Ben DeGros, skate science God.
Thanks Patrick:) Although I believe you may be over-estimating my abilities!
Do a Welcome Skateboard review. Can't find any Ben Degros level review on youtube :)
Rumor has it Welcome decks are made entirely from soy fiber.
Nice park. Love the clips. Where is this?
Thunders and Ricta naturals felt really comfortable for me.
Hey Ben! Just wanted to tell you I ended up trying out Clone wheels. They're good i'd say but a bit on the hard side... Definitely not going to convince Spitfire skaters to switch but a pretty good alternative to ride for a while.
Thank u for this vid!
A year and a half later I have pick up a pair of these. First Ventures. I am watching this to decide what board and wheel set-up. I think after watching, I am think a flatter deck like a flight or even a revive with some 53mm wheels.
It will be interesting to try out.
Did you try them?
@@jouhajohnny I haven't. I know what I will set them up on. I am going to try them on the Ishod Twin Tail.
First time skating this park for this channel? Looks like a nice spot.
5.6 venture titaniums with an 8.25" April deck seems like a really good combo for flicking.
I liked the bored waving at the end of the video 10:15
overall,i love riding thunder light's,just something about them, but you could also never go wrong with some basic raw indy's
That skatepark looks so dope omg
Just got Ventures, good to know.
How you like them?
@@jouhajohnny honestly cant remember, they were alright, but now am riding a bit wider indys
Never liked Indys, always thought they were too heavy, I really like Ventures, I skated them my whole life, but recently I’ve been trying to try out thunders, it’s a weird transition, I feel better on ventures cause it’s more comfortable but the pinch on thunders for crooked grinds is so good
Sweet review...
You need to do a video with a Lib-Tech deck. I had one years ago and the slick coating on the outside they slide on the Nose & Tail and Blunt very good and they seem to pretty durable boards. It would make a great video and them deck don’t get the attention they deserve.
I got some ventures a little while ago. I found that they turned pretty much the same as indys and also found that I could cross pinch way easier on these trucks . It felt like they just wanted to lock in perfectly.
@Skate Lurker bud i popped some bones is my indys and in my ventures. After they broke in they where almost identical. Indys where a beter beter but nothing where is made me skate differently.
I agree with what you say about Indy’s, how they turn exponentially more the more you lean. I think longboarders have a word for it. I’ve been whipped off on hillbombs on Indy’s and it really put me off them.
Indy’s aren’t for longboards, or hill bombing
Wait...when exactly did independent trucks go full production to china....thats crazy lol....besides that great video Ben 💪really wants to make me try these ventures
Just remember what I said. You might not like them. Best idea is to try other peoples setups when you see them rocking ventures. You can get a quick idea whether or not to try them.
I get a good feeling knowing where something is made. It's just a warm feeling if it's made in the right place. Not a deal breaker.
Agreed!
Yeah, what if it was made in the "wrong place" but yet has superior quality to things made in the "right place"?
Just a hypothetical question. I'd like to always buy things made in my country... but it is quite hard to do increasingly these days for many things.
This channel is way too underated
I switched to Carver trucks. loving new pop style meets old skool surf. 35-inch deck. That in-between long/short deck. The 3rd route
Hey Ben do a review of the new venture v titanium low ... I remember your video about you liking the venture lo’s... curious to see what you think about the titaniums
Thank you Ben..
Thank you.
Just get some lubricating oil like gun oil or knife pivot oil that’s in one of those pen shaped containers for your cups. I use the same oil I use for my knives that’s very low viscosity and use the fine tip applicator to drop some in my pivot cups and the squeaks are immediately gone. You can easily add this as needed without taking off your hangers to add wax. I also use one that is rust and corrosion resistant and it’s cheap as hell. Wax can get gunked up with dirt and become an asswhip. The low viscosity lube doesn’t hold a lot of dirt and tends to keep your cup cleaner and lasting longer.
whoa, im blown away. i was thunder anyway but whoa.
I had an old pair of tensor which I just got a brand new set of mids and the old ones had such a crook both have it was unreal lol pitching close to 3/4” deep no joke I used them several years. They were the ones with rubber pad on the ends that’s replaceable.
Requesting a review of Minilogo 8.75" trucks. No one reviews better than you and it's a review that hasn't been beat into the ground by everyone else. Please review Minilogo 8.75" trucks!!!! Thank you!!!
I switched over from Indy to royals and I love them. It’s enjoyable watching you shred man.
Chad Joines every time I had royals they sucked maybe I just had bad luck w em
Can you do a video with suggested tricks on the concrete ledge that you made
I bet you could do a frontside flip into that fakie nosegrind (or switch 5-0).
I love flat decks but have been skating indy's. Want to try the venture & flat deck combo soon!
Did you try it?
@@jouhajohnny I like my ventures over indys but I hate flat decks now lol.
@@stealthguru3974 Ventures are still nice with medium and steep decks imo (I ride V-Hollows)
Ben with all these chunky ledges you could teach us noseslide to crooks. I might as well get ventures and go all dlx
@1:01 that kid's badass, and now he's famous. and knows it, by the look he gave on the rollaway...
I just bought a set of Venture 5.8's and a 8.5 U.S.A. made skateboard,Bones 56mm filmers Atf wheels,Reds big balls bearings,Jessup grip tape and 1/8-1/4 risers. Do you think this is a good setup for a cruiser board for my first board just to get started? What would you change? Thanks! I tried to keep all U.S.A. products but pretty tough to find huh?!
Never been a fan of Indy personally , I've seen far too many of the hangers and baseplates crack/break plus they are too heavy , was riding venture for a long time but recently started riding thunder , they took me a day or so to get used to great so far 👍 .
Richmond is also one of my favourite parks. Clearly it's not for the variety of obstacles, it's for super chill scene\atmosphere. It's SOo buttery-chill there.
Just wish the whole park was level. Instead of that 1\2-disc bank for a turn-around, there was a proper larger-than-the-disc 1\4pipe quarter-pipe. Wish that new-flatbar was a'little-lower.
Hi Ben, did You face any issues with other bushings than stock ones installed on those trucks?
Awesome video
Great info
Great video as usual. I wish I could switch to ventures. I like how they feel on a block.
I do a lot of hill bombing though when I’m cruising around and a lot of times it’s in heavy traffic. I have a phobia of tight trucks and big hills and cars.
Im so in love with the ace truck an I like them loose with a bones top bushing. It’s more responsive than the stocks.
I feel like I’m making music moving through traffic on my skateboard and I can respond to any danger instantly regs or switch
I don’t want to die on a Boston hill. I want to die on a San Francisco hill in my late 80s
JOHNE APLESEED sup assflea
Switch crook at 6:44 had Moses Itknonen written all over it. Almost exact same landing style.
:) I used to see him doing them back when I was a lil grom. Must have left an impression on me!
Great comparison
I have a bit of a love/hate thing with Venture Highs. I’m super used to them, feel that they are super stable, turn great, no wheel bite with big wheels, and like that they extend my wheelbase because I’m tall. I also think think they balance poorly for manuals, feel crazy high, are completely haunted by ghost pop and are harder for me to flip than anything else (so I’ve basically given up).
I am interested to see if I’d like the 8.25s better than the 8s.
Get Venture V-Hollows
i just bought thunder highs 147 and they have replaced my venture lows and i find the thunders better.
Tensor Mag Light review PLEASE BEN!
I liked that lil bluntslide down the pyramid
Me too!
I'm like 100 pounds and like a medium tightness to my trucks
I am currently skating thunders and find they turn well, but could turn better
additionally, I want to try lows, but thunder doesn't make lows anymore
what trucks would you recommend that are lows, but turn really well
Almost no lows turn very good, maybe try independent lows, thats your best bet
now i want to go outside to do some radness
@Ben Degros I have a question sensei.
Does your family realise you actually like shred. I mean if they fully understand your a bad ass on a skateboard?😁 Great video im actually progressing alot since I've been following you.
Need help please. Got a darkstar heavy metal 8.25 Greg L deck coming. It has a steep tail and full concave. Any chance you could recommend a truck that won't ghost pop. 31.9 length 14.25 wheel base
very informative. how'd you film this?
