helmholtz resonators help more with drone than with rasp, rasp is usually a wider band of frequencies and you can only really adress one frequency with a J pipe. For rasp, that tincanny sound (while drone being a bassy, intrusive resonance in the interior usually at 2k rpm) i think a resonator is the better solution.

Awesome stuff. Quarter wave resonators need to point towards the back so exhaust can flow in, bounce off the end and enter the main exhaust at a matched frequency. Also the closer to the front any resonator or muffler is the better it will work since it has longer effectively to work before exiting. For the same reason the distance needs to be accounted for for the quarter wave, from memory length of the resonator is equal to a quarter the distance from the collector. Hope you can get rid of that rasp and still have the volume.
Changing the drone or controlling the volume really works the best with oval mufflers. I moved away from the round mufflers and always use ovals (when you have the space).
I have a ford fusion with a 2.5 liter 4 cyl. And by trial and error I got my exhaust perfect with no rasp. I used an oval style muffler in the rear that's call a cherry bomb pro. And I replaced the stock resonator with an old school round cherry bomb glass pack style muffler and it has a deeper tone with no high pitch rasp. I hope that might help you.
My 2 j series builds kicked my ass on exhaust sound note for along time what finally fixed it was a full 3 n 3.5 exhaust with a titanium resi and one build I have valvetronic mufflers other I did the old school greddy Evo 2 mufflers but yea both are on point now finally
I get the same rasp with my Monte Carlo, and I've read it's because of the engine being transverse. Unfortunately this causes the exhaust from each set of banks to travel different lengths before collecting in the downpipe, in your case, the turbo. ZZP makes a fix for the 3800s, I don't know much about the V6 Accord market though, and I really don't know how you would be able to pull it off other than to rework your entire turbo setup.
Yep unequal length y pipe causes some of that or not having long runners on the header primary. Which this j series has the header built into the head .
I had a custom exhaust installed when I got new cats (mine were clogged after 17 years) and I deleted all the resonators and just went straight pipe to two GReddy mufflers. Sounds amazing, even during decel, no raspiness at all.
If you want an lsd, try a 3rd gen tl transmission. The brake squeal is also a tsb on 3rd gen TL's with the brembos. Machine rotors and new pads fixes it.
My buddy used to have 2 resonators on his cars with droney or raspy exhausts and it helped a lot. Plus you could replace the helmholtz with the other resonator

I’ve got a Magnaflow catback on my Accord V6 and it sounds great. I get compliments all the time. Turbos are also kinda sorta mufflers. And remember, it may be a v6 but it’s still an economic Honda.
Us V6 SN95 guys do X pipes and H pipes to help with that rasp sound I think. Also if you have a spare Flowmaster Super 44, you might want to try it out. Made my car sound deeper but not much louder.
I feel like some different mufflers would make it sound better. There's a chance you might need to add another resonator closer to the mufflers as well
This is aneat build. Will make a great daily drive. Well done mate and keep up the good work. And i didnt mind the mountain biking. Just needed more offs...
one thing that plays a huge part in how it sound is the length of the pipe coming from each head to their junction, being unequal as they are now it will never sound as good as it was n/a
Honda V6s with the headifolds are impossible to make sound good. Best luck I had was a single fart can with 2 resonators, but still only sounded good at WOT. Induction noise is primo though. I’d make the exhaust quiet so you can hear the induction.
Does this car have have a limited slip diff? Makes all the difference in a FWD car, and also helps with understeer. Definitely one of the first things I'd do if not done already.
Swap out the rear mufflers from flow through to chamber mufflers. That helps most time as universal "mufflers" are only flow through models not chamber ones.
Chambered mufflers flow like garbage, though. Even when oversized. A better tip would be to have some bare pipe between the axle-back mufflers and the tips. Air coming out of the muffler is turbulent due to the perforations and such, and whenever you have that turbulence hitting open air, it can present as a rasp. The rule of thumb is at least 12" of pipe between any mufflers and any exits or tips.
@@rushking19 Yeah, if someone wants that hollow roar sound like Roadkill's Muscle Truck, the better way to do it is copy what they did. Put an oversized inlet-outlet diameter stubby glass pack/race bullet-style muffler in there. So if you're running dual 2.5s or single 3.5, put dual something crazy like dual 3.5 in-out race bullets in the dual 2.5s or a single 5" in-out race bullet in the single 3.5. IIRC Roadkill put dual 4" I/O race bullets into their otherwise dual 3" exhaust, then brought it back down to 3" all the way back.
@@rushking19 Yeah, but if the rest of your exhaust is good and doesn't rasp like hell, it'll still give you that hollow tinny shout/roar which should enhance it. Even more so if you have stepped headers and secondaries.
Now that I think of it, I've never seen a breakdown of wheel alignment numbers ever on UA-cam. Should probably try to find more build channels... I'm really interested in the numbers and what kind of compromises one has to make for stuff like good fitment etc.
As someone who did some exhaust to modified vw, I have a stock exhaust myself with a cutout. I plan on doing myself a full exhaust but I'm gonna make a muffler full with deadning material and baffled in it, and a valve for a straight throu. The only mufflers that actually I saw working where where the enterance and exist were at 90 degrees and the mufflers are heavy so it has some material in them to deaden the sound
Hey, good work on the 24mm Progress… crazy how much difference they make. You could try welding back in the smaller resonator you just took out…staged. 2x resonator. You can also step the collectors before the merge. The step location needs to be calculated. If you’re unfamiliar with David Vizard, hes got a yt channel. He’s probably in his mid 80’s and hotrod royalty. He has videos on the subject, any many more things that actually matter. Good work dude, the build is sick.
It's the manifolds keeping it from sounding great. You need really good collectors on 3-1 headers into twin turbos with dual exhaust or a 6-1 header to get rid of rasp and get the musicality out of a v6.
superpro is a great choice i track my j32 swapped 03 coupe and the poly bushings made a huge difference in handling. Ive also swapped in a tl type s diff it helps a lot the car drives like shit without it especially if it makes more than the 240 stock power
Three words "aero turbine muffler" i have ran them on multiple cars and it produced a deep tone with no rasp. Ran one on my 2.2l cavalier back in thr day, ran one on my cobalt ss tutbo that had no cats or resonators, just piping and the aero tirbine, no rasp, and a buddy of mine ran one on his ep3 and it was super deep with no rasp at all.
11 min mark.. had same thing going on with my s52 swapped e30, changed from a cheapy ebay header back exhaust to a fancy rms header back kit. The original kit had almost a crotch rocket/exotic sound. Afterwards it was horribly raspy with a full serving of exhaust leak, but there wasnt. I had resonators for both. Ultimately what it ended up being was the y pipe was too close to the headers on the new setup. Old setup had it about mid way down. That did it for me
To get the sound you're after from this engine, I'd be willing to bet on a high flow cat, one vibrant ultra quiet resonator, then two small bottle resonators instead of the rear mufflers. The catless setup with the cylindical resonator is likely missing the frequencies you're trying to eliminate, and the mufflers are then reducing the volume without helping further. Oval resonators like the UQR tend to be better at absorbing those raspy frequencies, and can be paired with much smaller mufflers to retain the volume. I'd also try to look at some turbo VQ exhaust setups and take some notes, as people manage to make them sound buttery smooth with a turbo.
When it comes to batteries, have you looked at anti-gravity batteries? They're a little more expensive but you get all of the cold cranking amps from a large battery with like a quarter of the weight
The squeal by the Acura RL BBK is known and is kinda annoying. Mine only does it on the first 2 stops when cold but seems to be silent after. Add a chamfer on the outer edge of the pad since there will be a small lip once worn down cause it overhangs the rotor by 1-2mm. Check the rotor shield as well to see if it's not rubbing.

Helmholtz was backwards bro... Sounds great with the larger resonator! Different cars can sound different lol you have plenty of vehicles.
My favorite build right now on UA-cam. Keep it up!
I had a custom exhaust installed when I got new cats (mine were clogged after 17 years) and I deleted all the resonators and just went straight pipe to two GReddy mufflers. Sounds amazing, even during decel, no raspiness at all.
I also put in a rear tie bar years ago. I’d love to upgrade the rear sway bar at some point, but the rear tie bar made a big difference.
If you want an lsd, try a 3rd gen tl transmission. The brake squeal is also a tsb on 3rd gen TL's with the brembos. Machine rotors and new pads fixes it.
First time I seen the J series get some love👍
My buddy used to have 2 resonators on his cars with droney or raspy exhausts and it helped a lot. Plus you could replace the helmholtz with the other resonator
Gingium Daily Cycle:
Buy a Daily -> Start by doing a bit of Suspension Mods and a bit more Power -> Turbo the Daily -> Make the Suspension more stiff -> starts to get uncomfortable -> Sell the daily -> repeat
I think I'd rather have a battery in the trunk than tucked under the front guard that way. Wild placement. Fuse and access point is a nice addition.
Love the mcm flag man, they're a humble titan in the industry
needs a 3" single all the way back , plus a j37 intake mani and throttle body
3 inch single is what makes this thing sing
Gingium, we need a video music playlist from you please!
I’ve got a Magnaflow catback on my Accord V6 and it sounds great. I get compliments all the time.
Turbos are also kinda sorta mufflers.
And remember, it may be a v6 but it’s still an economic Honda.
I recommend single exit exhaust tbf it would sound quite nice
yea 3" single all the way back , plus a j37 intake mani and throttle body
Single exit ftw, I think a single exit would be easier for him to get a smoother sound from it
With a good vibrant ultra quite resonator yeah
@@rushking19 im running 2 of those in line on my 9th gen j35. The pcds were causing crazy drone and rasp.
@@ns5337 equal or unequal y pipe?
Underside of that accorn is suuupaaa clean 👍
Us V6 SN95 guys do X pipes and H pipes to help with that rasp sound I think. Also if you have a spare Flowmaster Super 44, you might want to try it out. Made my car sound deeper but not much louder.
Love how this series is progressing 🔑
Vibrant ultra quiet resonator 10/10
YOOO im no expert but from my experience putting the resonator more towards the end of the exhaust would help a lot
Does this car have have a limited slip diff? Makes all the difference in a FWD car, and also helps with understeer. Definitely one of the first things I'd do if not done already.
You should put some cams in it
Cammed + boosted = no low end power for something like this. On a daily that would suck.
@@keon8625is doesn't have to be very aggressive cams
Swap out the rear mufflers from flow through to chamber mufflers. That helps most time as universal "mufflers" are only flow through models not chamber ones.
Chambered mufflers flow like garbage, though. Even when oversized. A better tip would be to have some bare pipe between the axle-back mufflers and the tips. Air coming out of the muffler is turbulent due to the perforations and such, and whenever you have that turbulence hitting open air, it can present as a rasp. The rule of thumb is at least 12" of pipe between any mufflers and any exits or tips.
Chamber mufflers take out a lot of tone and they flow bad
@@Drunken_Hamster the muscle truck was a v8 tho
@@rushking19 Yeah, but if the rest of your exhaust is good and doesn't rasp like hell, it'll still give you that hollow tinny shout/roar which should enhance it. Even more so if you have stepped headers and secondaries.
Now that I think of it, I've never seen a breakdown of wheel alignment numbers ever on UA-cam. Should probably try to find more build channels... I'm really interested in the numbers and what kind of compromises one has to make for stuff like good fitment etc.
Change the rear silencer man they’re also designed to make different sounds
Hit us up when you want to race. Track, drag, autox, don't matter
Also, it’s just dawned on me how much you probably hated the stepped collector suggestion…given this means everything behind I/D would need to grow
Those super pro lower control arms are amazing. They eliminated my wheel hop.
That little pipe you made 30” is for drone! We have an anti drone res delete for some models in that style!
You gave it the meats! I loved the stretched tires and super low tucked cars when I was younger… now I am not young lol
BABE WAKE UP GINGIUM POSTED ANOTHER BANGER🗣️🗣️
It's the manifolds keeping it from sounding great. You need really good collectors on 3-1 headers into twin turbos with dual exhaust or a 6-1 header to get rid of rasp and get the musicality out of a v6.
i prefer cherry bomb resonators when it comes to eliminating drone but keeping volume
superpro is a great choice i track my j32 swapped 03 coupe and the poly bushings made a huge difference in handling. Ive also swapped in a tl type s diff it helps a lot the car drives like shit without it especially if it makes more than the 240 stock power
Try same lenght exit from the headers to the turbo ("J-pipe")
This is mainly the issue unequal length y pipe. If you hear top mount turbo vq's you would understand.
Summer's over in Georgia ging and its not comin back for a while. Think about the tires.
Def sounds better after the longer tube.
That did it for me
VTEC YO‼
That exhaust sounds great
When it comes to batteries, have you looked at anti-gravity batteries? They're a little more expensive but you get all of the cold cranking amps from a large battery with like a quarter of the weight
For the brakes make sure you’re using the bigger 350z rotors and switch to brembo pads. The squeaks should be gone.
you sounded like the joker or batman at 18:03 HAHAHAHAH
The squeal by the Acura RL BBK is known and is kinda annoying. Mine only does it on the first 2 stops when cold but seems to be silent after. Add a chamfer on the outer edge of the pad since there will be a small lip once worn down cause it overhangs the rotor by 1-2mm. Check the rotor shield as well to see if it's not rubbing.
