This is what religion does. You are right. It swoops in to substitute itself for your cherished things and offers things you will never receive, and once you realize it, an even bigger hole is torn within. Faith should be lost, not for pain, but to dispel the lies. Maybe not in a universe that supposes faith exists. But in such a simulation, the truth is its an illusion and always was. That is what fiction is, an illusion. How fitting it reinforces the illusions people have regularly and explores them.
Sometimes people benefit from breaking apart an illusionary structure like faith. Ingrained as it is into one's way of life; oftentimes what remains after the illusion is gone grows stronger than before.
I would agree with you fully if the faith a person has is accurately placed. I would agree with you partially if the faith was inaccurately placed but having the faith itself caused no harm. In the case of Rose and every religion I've encountered, neither of those turns out to be true. Even when people benefit in the short term by placing their faith in what they perceive to be true, the long term consequences of having the subject of that faith revealed as a falsehood causes too much damage to be considered worth it.
so you just asume evolution to be true? As someone who firmly belives in science to the fullest, I must say... beliving that their is no creator is the most unlogical conclusion there is. I know that wasnt the subject you were discussing, but after Calling faith "an illusion" I felt like like I had to stand up and give my opinion on things.
2003's Rose: Ask angry to Edward for an answer for continue living and eventually, after a lot of off-screen suffering, founds it in her baby. 2009's Rose: TRIES TO MURDER EDWARD FOR AN ANSWER AND IS NEVER SEEN AGAIN (She's seen again in both series but in 2009 her time with Ed is short).
You have an interesting view of cause and effect. Are you really certain that removing Edward's speech here would have prevented half of her nation from being sacked and pillaged, herself included? Would she have been better off if Cornello just had his way with her hopes and expectations before the army came and ransacked her town, then raped her? I guess she would have been better off in the sense that she would have her faith intact. Small comfort though, to be sure.
Father Cornello had a strong regime of faith until the excess use of his stone. What Ed did was not only instill crushing doubt into Rose but also helped push his military's occupancy of this town quicker by dealing with him just for his own selfish desires. The combination of a horrid act but also by the same ones affiliated with Ed who scarred her helped cultivate such an awful situation. Ed's childishness and selfishness really made him think, "Hey, I'm waking up this town to a dark power that's kept them living peacefully and sustainable. Now I have no plans in helping them or even any knowledge of transitioning powers." Sure Cornello was scum for preying on these people and using a stone to his means but he understood the basics of ruling and protecting his followers. What just makes this writing so bad is Ed feels a lot less guilt about this while also guilt for letting Nina get turned into a monster and die. We don't really know which way the winds would have gone but Ed's actions ruined this town and caused Rose to go through a lot of horrible events. If you're going to break the illusion people have been feed and been satisfied with for so long at least have the guts to take responsibility for uplifting the town. What makes even less sense? Rose fell in love with Ed somewhere between him crushing her faith and him "dying".
Ed and Al wasn't aware that homunculus was targetting Liore. In their mind they probably think that it's the best course of action, as after the priest is exposed the people will be able to move on to the slow path of recovery. What he didn't anticipated was Envy ability to transform into the priest and act as a stand in, which results in an uprising as we seen in both version. Now, I don't know about 2003, as they continued on its own reality, but in the 2009 and the manga, they did said that the East military, who keep things under control at the time, was dismissed by the Central force, as the homunculus (or rather, Father) needs a crest of bloodshed to be present there. Of course, we learn that this was all planned from the beginning, but at the time this event took place it was an insight that was outside of their scope. Heck, when Ed and Al figured the whole thing out and found out what happen to Liore, Ed became devastated at what his interference has done to the town (he was scolded by Armstrong for suddenly stop his train of thought to grief). Afterward Al help rebuild the town and even apologised for what their interference has done (while Ed is, understandably, recovering from a pole through his stomach). In essence, yes, Ed and Al's action does speed up the uprising, but it was mostly due to the external factor he was not aware at the time. And yes, I use the 2009 continuity to justify their responsibility of the event, but by your logic, the 2009 Ed and Al is just as accountable. My point still stand that how the whole mess escalated isn't solely their fault. The different being the 2003 one took a darker path from the original story (which was incomplete at the time).
And before anyone go for the "but they're after his philosopher's stone" argument, they were also after the philosopher's stone when they met Doctor Marcoh, but decided not to deprived the town of their only Doctor (though Lust ended up kidnapping him anyway). In case of Father Cornello, their line of thoughts was probably "if we're going to exposed his scam anyway, might as well put the stone to better use than scamming people", which goes back to my first argument; it was the best course of action to them given their grasp of the situation at the time of the event.
I'm just saying taking this outcome and and not solidly dealing with it, just making things dramatic ruin Ed's character in 2003. In the 2009 version, Ed looks back at the folly and arrogance of his use in alchemy. It just annoys me that they decided, let's have they're friend get raped, make it dramatic, but then never have the brothers make any kind of connection to that on top of the horrors of Liore. And also have her fall in love with Ed. Granted the 2009 version showed a look back at the restoration of Liore and because of said incident not happening, they took it into their own hands to make things better. Like I said before no one knows which direction the wind will blow but TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, especially for being the primary cause for the homunculus to change course is the Elrics' fault. They've shown that even if they can be kids at times they had to grow up fast to deal with the harshness of reality, except here he's like "Ah screw em, their fault for idolizing a false prophet and not knowing what to do."
Manga and Brotherhood, the cannon story: Edward and Winry got married eventually and had 2 children, a boy and a girl. There is photographic evidence. Me, still obsessing over 2003 and being a hardcore EdRose shipper
She was the most desperate character. Enough for her to believe in anything that would bring her loved one back. Also, she was surrounded by people who believed the same thing. It would make sense to believe what most people in your life believe in.
2015 somebody was lying on the phone somebody to talk to me through audio video told me to dump while I was with told me their name and didn't show up wanted information they said they needed me that I played this clip I can't remember what the conversation was I just know it was sad
Weird how that speech got her to fall for him in later eps of 03 and brother hood also is their a site that I can use to watch the 2003 version ever since I found out about it I've been itching to see it.
This scene would have been better if Al tried to help her. It seems out of character for him to just walk away from a crying person and not try to comfort them.
He was probably trying to hold back his own sadness. That's why he didn't say anything. He was still hurting, both for her and his own tragic past with his brother.
As a noob to anime i didnt do research and i watched the first version of FMA first, then brotherhood right after. Gotta say, Brotherhood pacing felt rushed, i dont get why it gets the praise. i liked the first version better even tho story is not canon
ok first of all, don't call people retarded just because you don't understand what they said. It's childish. Second of all, I meant that Ed discovered the existence of "truth" and he doesn't believe him to be "god". Also, the being in the gate that he did meet took his arm, his leg, and his brother's body. Would you worship something that did that?
Take Out Im sorry your feelings got hurt but you are the one who doesnt understand what im talking about.First the being at the gate is god.He isnt the all loving god that many of the real religions believe but he is the one controlling nature alchemy and how the world proggresses.Second of all being and atheist also means you dont ACKNOWLEDGE gods existence. But in many occasions Ed has SEEN god with his eyes.I NEVER said that Ed should worship him.So now little kid do you understand the antithesis?
Take Out Lashed like a caged animal?Anyway if you believe that the Truth isnt the god of FMA i cant change your mind about that. And if you didnt want to argue why post a responce comment. My claim still stand if you meet the so called god of your world why are you an atheist. You dont have to worship him but how can you not acknowlegde his existence?
Take Out Also are you really comparing mortals who believe that they are the second coming to a being thats not human?I said i wouldnt change your mind about Truth but at least ill try.No matter how you look at it The truth is an allpowerful being.Residing is a different dimension. It aint human. You could argue it is knowledge itself.Plus it isnt even cruel. It treats all equal.Again the god of FMA doesnt have to hve the same properties as the god in our world (if you believe in one)
Wow what's this bunch of intellectuals in the comments ? Didn't you get that this isn't anti-christianism, neither they are praising science (on the contrary)? Stand up and walk is the sentence Jesus said while performing several miracles. By the way, the first transmutation is also a reminiscence of the first sin. Edward learns here and later on to be anti-dogmatic, and humble, while an atheist is by definition dogmatic and arrogant. Btw god is actually real, if you finished the serie you know it.
While I would agree that Edward and Al are not "praising" science, they certainly are condemning religious faith here, since Rose's trouble all stemmed from her willingness to believe without evidence. "Stand up and walk your own path" is not an inherently religious term, and you coming into the comments section to try to coin it for Jesus is intellectually dishonest, though that is your prerogative. And actually, the first transmutation is an echo of one of science's most important principles when conducting any experiment: conservation of matter, mass, and energy. Edward and Al could not use anything as a catalyst that would be enough to recreate or rebuild a lost human consciousness, so the result was catastrophic failure, as it would be in any scientific experiment where accurate measurements are not taken for conservation of mass/energy for a large result. Whilst I agree that Edward learns to be anti-dogmatic, and humble (both traits that I've seen atheists display in a decade than Christians have in centuries) I find your blind assertion that atheists are dogmatic and arrogant to be patently unfounded, and possibly a case of you projecting the faults of Christian/Religious dogmatic thinking onto those who by and large don't display those traits.
@@DonaldDarko this assertion comes from my philosophy teacher, i didn't made it up myself. Just look at the semantic. religious are saying "I believe" which doesn't mean i know. Atheists are gonna say "I do know there's no god". Also i read that the author don't have any bad feeling toward christianism. And your comparison is interesting but i personnally find more meaning in the fact that edward have the truth revealed to him. Because i feel like in your version, the whole would story be based on what is more likely to be the verification of this method, almost epistemological, than the phenomenon you were describing. What makes me think that is the idea that science is inherently falsifiable, when the system of the alchemy in the anime only shows unbinding rules. Isn't alchemy both physics and metaphysics ? (that's a real question i have no idea). But thank you i would not have think of this.
Let me rephrase it - I don't understand the meaning in this rule being only about physics, and of course is not. However admit i am still not sure about what i should think yet about the first transmutation And in every language Ed says "Stand up and Walk" which is the sentence jesus says to a paraplegic which is miserably lying on the floor.
A little bit of irony here is that there IS no such thing as a “perfect” philosopher stone. All philosopher stones require energy, once it runs out it turns to dust. As such, it can’t be a “perfect material”. In the end, it was always going to be a fools quest.
Al never died, his soul was present while they were trying to bring their mother back but his body was held within the gate because of him and Ed doing human transmutation to bring their mother back. Ed sacrifice his arm and leg to get Al's soul back from the failed experiment they created then bind it to armour.
+Tris A. Yes, but considering what happens to Al, his body and soul were taken by Truth at the start of the series. Anything taken by Truth is stored within the gate, including those who died.
+Tris A. Adding to my last comment because I don't feel like editing it, technically anything is possible with alchemy, depending on the sacrifice, including absorbing God/Truth.
It's impossible to bring back the dead this is explained literally many times throughout the anime. At the beginning they both transmuted a SOUL LESS body which wasn't even their Mother's and it caused them to pay for it with their limbs. Ed and Al gathered the essential ingredients for a human but still couldn't bring back their mother because you can't bring back the dead. (Explained on ep 20) It was possible to get Al's body back because technically Al never died, his soul was still present but his body was just held by Truth within the gate when all of that happened along with Ed's arm and leg. You can't just bring anybody back that goes through casual death like Rose's boyfriend because it doesn't equate to that. Shou couldn't bring back Nina but he could create many look alikes. Izumi couldn't bring her son back, when she tried he became Wrath. Their souls were all long gone, that's the difference.
FMA 2003: Patronizing dumb speech while rose whines to Edward about religion. FMA:B: Rose puts a gun to Edwards head while losing hope in the world as everything she had is taken away from her. How do people put FMA 2003 over FMA:B?
Okay there doesn't need to be science vs religion I'm a Christian ✝️ And I would never hurt you I love all of you!❤ Maybe she did that because she was afraid Ed scares me really intimidating guy Scary when he's angry And the exorcism and all the blood scares me
That's actually the point of the series. This scene shows a devastated girl who was manipulated by a cult and Edward, a boy who blindly believes in his favorite science. The point of the series (which the characters end up learning later in the story) is that there is no right side in this debate that religious leaders and obsessed scientists want to create, the path is full of nuances, and there is nothing to follow blindly or you can end up badly.
because in brotherhood she is pure amestrian. And amestrians are white. In 2003, she has darker skin because the people from liore are related to ishvalans, this info is revealed later.
Remember, Olivier Armstrong once said she is a pure-blooded Amestrian (episode 34), because she is a blue eyes blonde person. It's also true that the Armstrongs were always an important family ever since the foundation of the country (therefore they were members of the nobility or even from the royal family). Which means, black people can only be amestrians by their nationality or because in the past, their families traveled from an other continent to Amestris.

Classic for the ages, to be savored by any who witness it. 😎
Reason why Vic is better than Funimation.
Rose is such a beautiful name
means love
This is what religion does. You are right.
It swoops in to substitute itself for your cherished things and offers things you will never receive, and once you realize it, an even bigger hole is torn within. Faith should be lost, not for pain, but to dispel the lies. Maybe not in a universe that supposes faith exists. But in such a simulation, the truth is its an illusion and always was. That is what fiction is, an illusion. How fitting it reinforces the illusions people have regularly and explores them.
Anyone know the name of the song playing in the background during this scene?
Lapis philosophorum
And in the half of the episode Ed finally realized to asked faith when everything is lost His a human after all
this scene is so much better in the classic fma btw
Yeah the first 13 ep of brotherhood was just a rush through like I wanna say 25 eps from season one
I think Ed saw Her as the one who can stands Again
Ed: people don't come the dead rose not ever... not ever
Shenron: are you sure about that
There's a bunch of lessons in FMA and FMAB.
This is why I don’t want to lose confidence in my faith. To most people, Losing one’s faith would almost be like losing a piece of one’s self.
Sometimes people benefit from breaking apart an illusionary structure like faith. Ingrained as it is into one's way of life; oftentimes what remains after the illusion is gone grows stronger than before.
Faith to me is not illusionary.
Having faith in something like god or a higher power gives people something to look forward to.
Donald Darko in short god damn your conceited
A MrBeast fan confronting DogPack404 and SunnyV2 after knowing about the allegations:
Ed may not be very immature, but in moments as these ones, even when devastation is required, he is not so immature by then: He is a MATURE person.
Yeah go read the manga. Brotherhood’s early parts were stolen by 2003 essentially so they rushed to get to the good stuff.
Her voice is cute.
I like this design of rose she’s more Neapolitan
Dammit, what’s the song I the background!!!
Lapis Philosophorum
You know what happened though because of Ed's interference here though? She ends up getting raped and becomes a mute. Good Job 2003 Ed
I can't believe I forgot who Rose was...
I would take rose with me before the next scene happens
Does anybody know what episode she shows up again in this version?
Forty something
Manga and Brotherhood, the cannon story: Edward and Winry got married eventually and had 2 children, a boy and a girl. There is photographic evidence.
Me, still obsessing over 2003 and being a hardcore EdRose shipper
Rose is like the most naive character
She was the most desperate character. Enough for her to believe in anything that would bring her loved one back. Also, she was surrounded by people who believed the same thing. It would make sense to believe what most people in your life believe in.
brilliant anime
dude,i need that soundtrack
2015 somebody was lying on the phone somebody to talk to me through audio video told me to dump while I was with told me their name and didn't show up wanted information they said they needed me that I played this clip I can't remember what the conversation was I just know it was sad
They lied about who they were but they kept saying they needed me sad a lot of things in this clip that are personal
Music name please
Weird how that speech got her to fall for him in later eps of 03 and brother hood also is their a site that I can use to watch the 2003 version ever since I found out about it I've been itching to see it.
This scene would have been better if Al tried to help her. It seems out of character for him to just walk away from a crying person and not try to comfort them.
He was probably trying to hold back his own sadness. That's why he didn't say anything. He was still hurting, both for her and his own tragic past with his brother.
It would suit alphonse but not ed.
The Stone was Made in Xing
Is this Brotherhood?
As a noob to anime i didnt do research and i watched the first version of FMA first, then brotherhood right after. Gotta say, Brotherhood pacing felt rushed, i dont get why it gets the praise. i liked the first version better even tho story is not canon
Can anyone tell me what is the music playing in the background?

Anakai Skytemare because that's what happens when straight european style hair gets long.

What i dont get is although ed has seen god or truth or whatever he is still an atheist
Well, even if Ed discovered Truth/God's existence he also discovered that it isn't something to be worshipped.
ok first of all, don't call people retarded just because you don't understand what they said.
Also, intellectuals tend to discuss their interests. It's part of what makes them intellectuals. Thinking is fun, after all.
However admit i am still not sure about what i should think yet about the first transmutation
And in every language Ed says "Stand up and Walk" which is the sentence jesus says to a paraplegic which is miserably lying on the floor.
A little bit of irony here is that there IS no such thing as a “perfect” philosopher stone. All philosopher stones require energy, once it runs out it turns to dust. As such, it can’t be a “perfect material”.
In the end, it was always going to be a fools quest.
He technically brought Alphonse back to life, so Edward is somewhat mistaken in the fact that it is impossible to bring the dead back to life.
He didn't bring him back. TRUST ME. No one can ever come back from the dead.
Their souls were all long gone, that's the difference.
brotherhood or 2003?
brotherhood
FMA 2003: Patronizing dumb speech while rose whines to Edward about religion.
FMA:B: Rose puts a gun to Edwards head while losing hope in the world as everything she had is taken away from her.
How do people put FMA 2003 over FMA:B?
Mohammad M in 2003 everything she had was taken away too, and far worse
Because FMA 2003 isn’t dumb and wouldn’t resort to such things. It would’ve looked edgy.
Difference between realistic and kids overreacting. Kids love more victimized crying
Great but the original is much better
Wait a minute this wasn't in the manga like her holding them at gun point ???
Brotherhood anime added the gun point while the manga never did that.
Edward saw God when he was a child. Why didn't he told her the truth.
This scene is better in the 03 version
Okay there doesn't need to be
science vs religion I'm a Christian
✝️ And I would never hurt you
I love all of you!❤
Maybe she did that because she
was afraid
Ed scares me really intimidating guy
Scary when he's angry
And the exorcism and all the blood
scares me
That's actually the point of the series.
Faith? Even with the pic? You don't believe

Darker skinned rose in the 2003 show was sexier and exotic. Here she just looks boring and basic.
They really thought we wouldn’t notice 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️
Ew fetishized
I prefer 03 version of this scene. It was a lot more compelling.
Why is she white in brotherhood tho in the 2003 version she had darker skim
because in brotherhood she is pure amestrian. And amestrians are white.
In 2003, she has darker skin because the people from liore are related to ishvalans, this info is revealed later.
Alcides Couto What about the Black people in Amestria?
Remember, Olivier Armstrong once said she is a pure-blooded Amestrian (episode 34), because she is a blue eyes blonde person. It's also true that the Armstrongs were always an important family ever since the foundation of the country (therefore they were members of the nobility or even from the royal family). Which means, black people can only be amestrians by their nationality or because in the past, their families traveled from an other continent to Amestris.
Alcides Couto Makes sense. Perhaps the black people in that world came from the southern parts, much like the Asian cultures coming from the east.
man. neither iteration of this story did it right. as someone who read the manga first, both the original anime and brotherhood screwed up in Lior.
