- Here is a 2.8K RAW Video Film shot on the Cheapo Canon EOS M using Magic Lantern. Trying to emulate the Super 16mm Cinematic Look. 2.8K RAW has a 2.96x Crop Factor and so it's quite close to Super 16 FOV. It was really impressive looking at the quality of the original footage, such a great little camera for the price. The score reminds me of something from John Williams or Hans Zimmer Enjoy!

Great stuff Zeek! If I were going to nitpick I thought the cut between the footprints in the sand (looking up towards the trees/cutting down to the beach) was a little quick. I’d like to see this on the big screen because it has a kind of epic appeal to it.👏👏👏👏

I'm using the SanDisk Extreme Pro 512GB 170MB/s. It can't get continuous. The highest I've recorded is around 8 minutes in my room. 2 minutes in the city. It usually records up to 15 Seconds, but sometimes peaks Highers, so it's quite variable. But for my needs, all I really need is about 5 seconds per Clip.

I didn't see you use it in any of your videos; I would try it, but I don't have enough speedy card. And also I wanted to ask you if there is an optical difference between 7Artisans brand and TTartisan, because they offer identical lenses, Did you tried them out? Also I have one great idea for external monitor, which is eXtreme budget, but extremely usable in all situations; You could make a video about it; anyway people with no budget come to your channel to learn to start filming. It is Raspberry Pi TFT display, or also car parking screen can be used; they are dirt cheap, 10$+ depending on model and resolution 😄

It's not consistent around the "up to 10-15 second mark". Yes I have tried 240Hz which is how I got the 8 Minutes. But this was lowlight, which takes less data from the sensor in comparison to bright light. As for the 7Artisans/TTArtisans, never tried the latter so don't know. Best would be to check Flickr samples and look at the out of focus areas, bokeh, colour rendition etc..
I used to research the raspberry stuff a while back. I'll look into the Pi TFT Display and see what it can do. Cheers! 😎🙌🍻

Cheers! It was just a basic Jessops photo tripod, non-fluid head. Also shot hand held with post stabilization.

@@Manciuks1 it's getting better over time which is good to see. For me it's quite stable, just needs to improve with Monitor use. People have used this both for weddings and paid gigs and clients have been impressed, so yeah. Depends on the client's needs.
@@ZeekEOSZ I heard that some people even choose iphone footage for commercial rather than camera's one. So Eos M is even better. The colours, just need to work on it, you are doing great in teaching, showing off the possibilities of eos m. Great! But sometimes the footage just almost dissapear, I mean is like half of screen blinking in pink colour for a couple of seconds. Just this problem I got :)

With the 2.8K mode, out of all the clips I shot I had Zero pink/dropped frames. What mode are you using?

Awesome! Thank you! I used the grain in FCPX, comes pre-installed. Files were placed on a 4k timeline and exported as 4k.

Man, buy Canon 5d III to show us all that ml can do Full frame fullhd and 4k crop. You made almost maximum on eos m.
I don't really like the full frame look for raw video. Full frame is with the 5D3 is 1920x1080, here I shot 2.8K Raw with the Eos m. I just like the adaptability of lenses with the Eos m,. Like C mount an Canon FD.

Also wanted to ask about M50 does it have Lantern too with 10-14 bit footage?
These are EF lenses, and I used Metabones Speedbooster for EOS M. I don't always use it.
The M50 doesn't shoot raw with ML.
Love the colors but everything is way too sharp especially the edges. Use a Gaussian blur at around -2 or -3 to soften things up a bit and back off on the HDR to rid of the halo and your almost there. Great job!
Must have been from lifting the shadows a bit, but I kind of like that bit of crunch. I'll give gussian blur a test run next time, cheers 😎👍🎥
Thank you for loads of good advices. Been using ML on a couple of Ms over years and loving the Movie crop to reduce lense-load when out. Seems it is gone in last version - or is it resolution dependant?

Movie Crop X3 can still be enabled, just press the Set to engage X3 Crop Mode

Wow, I can tell you this much Zeek, the opening of your footage & those lavish colours are just like beach scenes on Amity Island from the original classic Jaws movie, especially choosing the right music also. I would personally skip the monitor for now actually. You will get dropped frames in certain modes. It works sometimes, but there's not always garuntee. I like the Kit Lens 18-55 IS or Canon 55-250, with the EF to EOS M Adapter, or 18-135 IS, Sigma / Tamron 17-50 OS/VC, Canon 28-135 IS.

@@stephanes. Stabilisation definitely helps, especially for those higher resolution crop modes like 2.5K/2.8K etc..
i've watched a ton of eos m raw videos and yours seem to be the only ones that look a little more professional.. not noisy, great color science and sharpness.. gonna assume it just depends on the person seeing you've been using this camera for years.

Fantastic color grade. Whenever I try to shoot at the ocean with the M/ML, I end up with so much noise in the choppy water. How is yours so clean? Are you doing anything weird with your exposure?
I expose for the highlights mostly, but with the water it can be tricky, using a col filter will come in handy. I used ISO 100 the whoy way through. False colour and zebras are also welcome 😎👉
@@ZeekEOSZ Good stuff! I’m curious too about your “keeper rate” for a day(?) like this? We get to see all the amazing footage, but using ML, does this end up being like 10% of the total you’ve captured and the rest is just too noisy/bad exposure/ too shaky/bad frames? Or have you gotten to a point where most of your shots turn out the way you’d envisioned them? I have no doubt the percentage has evolved over time, but where are you now after using ML for a couple years?
@@maaaps it depends on the screen I probably kept about 90% of this footage. I used mostly a tripod for the stills, and handheld with the 24-70 which has IS. The least used lens was the 35mm, but that was used in certain shots.

Hi zeek：The issue of shutter has always troubled me. When I shooting, I always keep the shutter of 1/48 or 1/50 as suggest, but it got over exposure easly during the daytime！ Can it be changed to a higher shutter speed? or only use PL to adjust it？
You need a variable ND Filter which you can get off eBay or Amazon 😎👍
I am planning to buy m or m2 really soon. I am really aiming for eos m instead of m2. Do you think "m2" might have any disadvantages or advantages over "m" considering recording raw.
The m will have more features, go that route. The M2 is a nice photography option on the side, as it has wifi. But that's pretty much it.
decided to order one as well. Im thinking to get speedboster for it but not sure if IS will work. brand VILTROX, do you have any experience with it? or IS lenses is waste and better of with gimbal. My buget is quite tight atm
IS will work yes. A nice lens is the Canon 28-135 IS for the Budget option with Speedbooster.

I just wanted to ask 2 questions. Do you know of a way to shoot RAW in a log profile, on the eos m. I am really struggling to keep the highlights in check while trying to expose the subject correctly. I'm talking about log that is captured in camera during filming, not just exporting it in log.
Also, does lens stabilisation work in magic lantern. I think my footage is just a bit more shaky since I've started using magic lantern.

Not in camera. It's impossible. MLV Raw is it's purest form, like taking RAW photos instead of JPEG.
Lens stabilisation works with supported lenses.
With magic lantern different modes have different crop factors explained in my settings video. The higher crop modes like X3 2080 or 2.5K will produce more shake. 1080 mode is fine.

Haha , Magic Lantern, it does Magic for these Budget cameras 😎👉🎬🔥 All the lenses are in the description, I mostly used the 17-40 / 24-70 F4.

In FCPX I used the grain Effect. All footage was imported into an 8K timeline on FCPX, I'm on my phone so I'm not sure if 8K has processed yet lol..it's just a test. Maybe the grain shows better using this method, who knows.

Check out TTArtisans 17mm f1.4 or 7Artisans 25mm f1.8, otherwise vintage f1.4 lenses with a speedbooster.

Hey do you have sometimes the green led flashing? since I put an sd card that was used in my BMPCC, the EOS M doesn't start, there only is a green flashing led... Did you have the same problem? thanks for your help
It's happened before yes and can be fixed. Try formatting the SD card in camera from another camera. Then format it on the Eos m. Also try another Battery. If it still persists, then format the card from the computer.
@@ZeekEOSZ From another canon camera ? because I only have a BMPCC original. I already tried with a computer, in exFAT then FAT, it didn't work :/
Try formatting to Journal OS. If not, swap out batteries if you can or leave the camera for a bit. It's most likely the SD Card in this case. When it happened a while back this method worked
@@ZeekEOSZ I tried an SD card coming from a GoPro, it worked, but then I put again a formated sd card and it didn't work. And now, even the GoPro SD card doesn't work.
I don't have a GoPro, it was from someone else... lol

When I try use it I cant seem to change any exposure triangle settings and I get aload of red dots in the middle of the video. These don't appear when shooting standard native video. I was wondering if you had an idea why this was happening? 😊. When I try use 2.5k everything goes really jumpy and slow in the screen and the camera normally turns off soon after
Get rid of focus dots with these focus pixel maps. Download the zip file. Copy and paste the resolution map files into the MLV App interface. Enjoy!

You can also enable 3x3 chroma smooth in MLV App top right panel. But Focus Pixel Maps are the real deal 👉🎥👊

Take SD card out, press info enter dashboard, then tap the camera icon and select manual mode instead of Auto if you are in Auto mode.
Bought your LUT but it only works for MAC. Do you have a Windows version?
Which part works only on Mac just so I can see if I can fix it? The folder or?
@@ZeekEOSZ After you unzip the "EOS Z Cinematic Rec 709 LUTs" file there's only a "MACOSX" folder.

Use a SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB & Above. There should be no 4GB Limit/Chunks.
Zeek how come when i put my video into mlv app there is an absurd amount of color noise i cant get rid of, like its horrendous, im only doing 1080p 10 bit raw

@@ZeekEOSZ 17-50 sigma 2.8 and a huge light panel, and on the screen of the eos m it looks perfect but when dragged in mlvapp it's terrible, I can send you pics if you have an instagram or something

Check your exposure levels in camera (EV) should be between EV 1-0.1. Closer to 0.1 is exposing to the right.

how long does it shoot for in 2.8K ?
Up to 15 seconds. If underexposed then I've gotten 8 minutes and beyond.
