- A long awaited return to our beloved Wasdale Valley in the western lake district.
We spent 3 lovely nights in a camping pod on the national trust campsite.
We checked out some of our old favourite haunts, and did some thoroughly enjoyable walking !

Hey Ceri and Kat, a very happy Friday to you too guys🥳🥳👊. The weather certainly was kind to us this trip, as ever, it is very changeable and wasdale seems to have its very own little micro climate🙈🤣, but when we first arrived at the shores of wastwater with it bathed in sunshine we felt very lucky, Pete was immediately reaching for the drone🌞 🤩👏. We really enjoyed making this video and wanted to showcase all of the things we feel makes wasdale that extra bit more special, so we are really glad that came across😊👌. You gotta love a herdy sheep 🐑 ❤️, part of the lake district landscape👍. Haha yes spot on, we bet will ritson would be very popular on social media these days🤣🤣. Wow wow wow, I've never been to this area of the lakes. It's absolutely stunning! Fabulous drone footage, and such a nice little adventure out and the pub looks such a good place to hang out. The drive in is absolutely fantastic, hitting the shores of wastwater, and then along to the head of the valley where the pub sits surrounded by the high fells, it is a special place, we hope you get to experience it one day, and the pods at the national trust campsite are a great base to explore from, we can throughly recommend them😊👍. Honestly you won't regret a trip to wasdale to explore, in our humble opinion it is one of the most beautiful areas in England🥰❤️. Funnily enough Pete hadn't visited since he was a child with his family either the very first time we went to wasdale, and once we did we were hooked, started ticking off all of the high fells in the valley, we have some incredible memories there🤩. We were super lucky with the weather when we first arrived in the valley on this trip, perfect drone weather😆👌. We will look forward to watching your own wasdale adventure😊👊. Hi both that was an absolutely stunning area, so beautiful and I loved the opening and closing drone footage, amazing scenery. Shell I loved your t shirt and agree with it :) The pod that you stayed in looked great especially having the heating in and when you sat outside at the end it looked so cosy . Loved St Olafs church, it was so small and cosy and with those beautiful beams, and that waterfall was beautiful with the full river. Loved the story of Will Ritson and his tall tales 😄 and i totally agree with you that those sheep are very very cute . The Wasdale Inn looked great but it was a shame that it rained . Good thing that you had the chilli and battered fish to warm you up! That was beautiful and as usual you gave a really informative tour 🙂👍💜 ~ Anna

Love the story of Will Ritson - I’d love to attend a lying competition!! Those sheep are hardcore!!! Our little woolly welsh sheep would be no match for those guys!! Oo lovely pub!! We couldn't believe it when we arrived at the shores of wastwater and it was bathed in sunshine 🌞👏, Pete was immediately reaching for the drone🤣👍. We were so lucky to be able to show the lake at its best, it really is gorgeous with the high fells as its back drop🥰. Haha Will Ritson was quite the character wasn't he🤣👌. We would be awful in a lying competition, my mum (Shell) always use to say "you can't lie for toffee"🤣🙈. The pub is fantastic, nestled right at the end of the valley and always a great atmosphere in there🍻😊. The pods were loads of fun to stay in too, we had a great time in wasdale, can highly recommend it if you guys ever get the chance to visit😊👍. It is definitely worth the journey and we can't recommend the camping pods at the national trust campsite enough as a base to explore the area 🏕. It is a lovely peaceful site add you can book the pods online in advance😊👍. We have had our inflatable kayak out on wastwater a few years ago before we started our channel, it was amazing, you and Phil would absolutely love it Debs, you can paddle over to the other side of the lake and look up at 'the screes', it's incredible🤩🤩🛶. The pub is right in the heart of the valley too and always has such a great atmosphere. Hi there 👋. We certainly did get a mix of all weather's during the 3 days we were there, as is typical in wasdale😆🙈👍. But we felt very lucky to arrive at the shores of wastwater on our first day to it bathed in sunshine, fantastic👌🌞. We love old pubs like that with the low beams, great atmosphere in there too😊👍🍻. You’ve highlighted everything that’s great about Wasdale
Plus because it’s more difficult to get to, it’s always much quieter than the other valleys.
Flippin love it. So many memories - need to get back there sometime.
My first ever fell walk - had a page out of a walking magazine- no map or compass. Just thought that Great Gable looked a bit of a stroll on paper! Ended up on the summit cairn on my own at 8:30am in glorious sunshine. And that was me hooked on the Lake District! But what a place for a first proper hike. And have taken the kids up there many times since!
Will Ritson could have been a politician, although wouldn’t have been as good as a couple of them.😃
The worlds biggest liar is still held at the Bridge in Santon Bridge. We had a meal in there a few years back. It’s a cool pub.
And the iconic Wasdale Head Inn - love it!!

Aw it has been so lovely to read about your memories of Wasdale, we didn't realise you guys also had such a love for the place, we totally agree, we think it has a special pull that is hard to put into words, but once you have visited and experienced it for yourself you are well and truly in love with wasdale🥰❤️. What a incredible way to experience walking up your first fell!🤩🙌, great gable is an amazing climb, we can imagine what it must have been like to be up there alone at sunrise, no wonder you were hooked from then on! 😍 🌅 ⛰️. Haha you're not wrong about the politicians, think a few of them would certainly take will ritsons crown 🙈🤣. We hope you guys get to revisit wasdale soon, we had really missed it ourselves so it was wonderful to return and make this video about all the things that we feel make this place that bit more special🥰👌. Only done the Pike, Pillar, Kirk Fell and Great Gable, so a lot to do in that valley for me but it is over 3 hours for me to get there so I need to spend a canny few days there myself just hiking those High Fells I have not done, so a pod sounds a dam good idea. Loved the old church, which we went passed on the way up to Kirk Fell and Great Gable in the summer but we were so tired on that way back and I had a return 3.25 drive back home, so still not been in yet. never heard of Will Ristson before but his 'force' was very nice to see, as was the inside of the pub, which we also missed out on in our last trip. Shame about the rain but at least you had the conservatory to keep dry in. Nice to be able to sit outside your pod and a nice warm dry bed just behind you too, cheers Alan
Hey Alan and happy Friday to you 🥳. Wow well that's not a bad start at all and some very impressive peaks on your list there😊👍. It took us 3 attempts to summit Pillar, we were pushed back by high winds, rain and clouded out tops on our first two tries🙈. The pods are a fantastic base for exploring the high fells of wasdale, it is a very quiet national trust campsite with direct access to the hiking trails, we can highly recommend them to spend a few days in as we did on this trip👍 (our journey time is around the same as yours to reach wasdale, just over 3 hours, so definitely worth lingering for a few days there). We can also highly recommend the wasdale head pub!🤣🍻. Always a great atmosphere in there and a really quirky pub to visit at the very heart of the wasdale Valley😊👍. We hope you get to have your own adventure in wasdale next year, it really is a special place.
