      @@AdventureEndeavor I don't want to do it myself either but dealers are too busy, luckily found a mechanic, I was gonna do it myself. RAM dealer said they don't have the front OEM filters - something about michigan governor destroying the economy and chrysler not producing - ok I made up part of that - but I had to track these filters down. Definitely not doing oil changes... however, if these prices keep climbing, maybe. Dealer wants $250 to change the fuel filters. First off, thanks for a clear and informative video!! Couple points I found as I did the same job on my 2018 6.7 Ram.
    -I used a long extension on the 1-1/8 socket to remove the canister top. Made it easier than reaching down.

    Great Vid! Thank you. Did the job today no issues. I used two 12" extensions on a wobble with a standard 6 point 1-1/8 socket. This kept me from having to reach way down to loosen up the filter. Also, I throw a towel on the front edge of my hood, saves the paint when it touches the garage door. The used diesel goes on my wife's Kale garden. Keeps me from eating that stuff.

    Don’t over tighten the front plastic lid…. You’ll pinch the o ring and it’ll leak. I ended up breaking the assembly and got a price to replace the plastic lower and upper lid….. about $800 for just the part. I ordered a Black Cat billet aluminum replacement kit for $250 and now it used standard Cat Filter that’s screw on.

  • @jeffanderson6740
    @jeffanderson6740 2 роки тому +5

    When you untightend the petcock/wire assembly with the Chanel lock pliers you used them backwards. When you reassembled it you used the pliers properly. All of those type of pliers have teeth. The top teeth point backwards and the bottom teeth point forward. So you ALWAYS want the rounded side to "lead" when tightening or loosening.

      I'd guess if a backyard mechanic can do it in 45 minutes that a dealership service garage with a lift, all the right tools and lots of experience, can do it in 30 minutes. Mopar fuel filter set sells for $117 from Amazon (and we know dealerships pay a lot less).
      $635 less $117 parts is $518. So, $500 for a 30 minute job means that dealers shop rate is $1,000 per hour labor charge! What a rip-off!
      Last time I checked dealerships were getting about $125 per hour, here in California. Guess it's true when they say things are a 'lot bigger in Texas'.

    A couple of quick tips. When doing the hose trick crack the filter/cap to let all the fuel drain. That way it won't have any fuel left in the bowl or the filter when you go to remove them. Also get yourself a long extension and a swivel adapter for the under hood filter cap. This way your ratchet is out in the open and gives you better leverage and easier to remove the cap. And I didn't see anything about putting a little oil on your seals when in stalling.

    • @AdventureEndeavor
      @AdventureEndeavor  4 роки тому +4

      Thanks for the tips, it's tough filming and doing the project. What type of oil do you add the the seals? I do that with oil changes but never heard of that with fuel filter change.

    • @mavrick0pm

      @@AdventureEndeavor Any oil really. Just the way timing falls with my 17 3500 and my wife's 18 2500 the fuel and oil are getting done at the same time so I just use the standard diesel oil. You can even use diesel fuel too. The main thing is to lubricate the seal to avoid tearing or ripping it or even bunching it up as you tighten things down.

I needed some help getting the back filter off and help with the one under the hood to get the top off, but other then that I did the rest. I was about to freak out thinking I did something wrong, but I turned the key again and it stayed started, then I ran over to the filters to see if I see spray and didn’t. I took it for a test drive even and still didn’t see no spraying, but as I was going through all the steps there was one step I forgot and that was to use the grippers to tighten the sensor on the back filter, I got it tight now 😰 that could of been a bad day. might be down in the comments somewhere but I'm being lazy . For the one under the hood, get 2 12" or 1 24" 3/4 extension along with a U joint/angle adapter . makes life much easier. after 10-15k miles, those things do not like to come off. one other thing I did on the dually, haven't done it on the 2500 yet is buy yourself a billet/aluminum cap to replace that plastic one. great video btw, right to the point on everything. that extra fuel filter/water separator was a surprise when I bought the 2013 2500. Also looked at possibly buying that extra bolt on filter that goes next to the one under the truck for more piece of mind

And the drain was completely bent and permanently kinked. I'm an oversized person so I couldn't get under the front enough to work with the drain line so I had to jack it up then all the work on top was way harder due to the added height. I drained a lot more diesel out: over 40 fluid ounces between both filters. Thanks for the heads up on the socket size and the drain hose!

      @@AdventureEndeavor Diamler Chrysler owns Dodge and a bunch of other car companies Dodge has a partnership with Mopar for aftermarket factory OEM. Cummins built this engine and sells and warrants Fleetguard. Look at what your fuel filter cap says under your hood if you never replaced that big black cap it came that way from the factory it's says Cummins Fleetguard end of discussion. If you want aftermarket Mopar cool. I buy factory direct higher quality and better price. I bought upgraded stratapore oil filter and both fuel filters for $160 from Cummins. I will say this I have a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 bought brand new Nov 18th 2017. I now have 125k on her I haul a 40ft Goosseneck and avg. 16,000lbs a load so @ 24,000lbs total on avg. I run all 48 states and those Mopar filters have failed me twice and last time cost me my fuel pump. After that I run with factory direct Fleetguard been running them the last 50K miles and no problems. I change them every 15K. Buddy trust my Mopar fuel filter underhood tore up while removing it. Fleetguard is commercial grade built tough for commercial fleets. Mopar can't compete Fleetguard is Heavy Duty. But maybe they'll give you a sponsorship for your support 😉!
