  • My Ever After High dorm room series continues - this time with Holly and Poppy O'Hair's dorm room! I wanted to put a hair salon in their dorm room, because as the daughters of Rapunzel, their hair grows crazy fast, so they need a private salon to keep each other well-groomed. I think that's a nice touch for the O'Hair twins, don't you?
To follow along, this is what I did:
The shelf for the Holly and Poppy O'Hair dorm room or diorama is a large open cube in white finish from Hayneedle.com. They cost about $37 each (before any sales).
Holly O'Hair's wallpaper is from Papersource, and I chose it because it looked like long, flowing locks of golden hair. Poppy O'Hair's wallpaper is from Hobby Lobby, and I chose that because I wanted to convey waves of hair as well, except in Poppy's colors.
The O'Hair twins share the same color carpet, because really, they agree on a lot of things. The carpet is pink glittery felt from Joann Fabrics & Crafts.
The trim on the walls is a purple glittery ribbon from Hobby Lobby. The gold braid trim is also from Hobby Lobby, and the silver wavy trim is from Joann Fabrics (I think).
The window frames are from Michaels, and the outdoor scenes are cut from Ever After High doll boxes. Poppy's curtain rod is a spindle with two finial caps glued on and painted "Punk Pink." The spindle and finial caps are from Hobby Lobby. The curtains are a purple fabric from Joann Fabrics, and the curtain ties are silver braids from Hobby Lobby (look for their Spare Parts canisters).
Holly's curtains are a painted craft popsicle stick and hot pink clothespins for hanging laundry, both from Hobby Lobby. Her curtains are a lavender-and-purple floral print from Joann Fabrics (on sale for $8 a yard!). Holly's curtain ties are the gold braid trim (you might have noticed that I always use gold braids to represent Holly and silver braids to represent Poppy).
For the salon furniture, I bought a My Fancy Life salon playset from Amazon.com and repainted everything in the O'Hair twins' colors, using purple and black dimensional fabric paint from Michaels. There is an extra salon chair in there that I bought from eBay - think it came from a Bratz salon playset? In any case, it went perfectly in their room.
I also made Holly and Poppy O'Hair a carpet for their diorama...I took a plastic backing, and hot-glued a piece of purple felt, then trimmed it with gold braid and silver fringe, then hot-glued on lavender-colored flowers (braid from Hobby Lobby, silver fringe and lavender flowers from Joann Fabrics).
To decorate the walls of their dorm room, I cut out pictures of Holly and Poppy together, Holly O'Hair from Spring Unsprung, and Poppy O'Hair from the Through The Woods collection, and hot-glued them to rectangular wood pieces that I had painted in black, hot pink, and purple. I then added some bling or some trim to make them seem more like "framed" pictures, then hot-glued them to the walls.
And le voila! I was done. My little girl loves this latest Ever After High dorm room and that makes me feel great, because Holly O'Hair is one of her favorite characters. I hope you all like it too and will tell me what you think in the comments below!
