Great video. The horn sounds like Nathan K bells K1L and KS1. The Progress Rail GT46 locos for the Australian mainline (not the Pilbara iron ore system line like the loco in your video) also use 2 K bells but are instead KS1 and KS2, similar to some British locos and also 70s - 90s Australian passenger stock.
The main issue with battery powered locomotives is the distance that can be travelled on one full charge compared to a diesel powered equivalent. Also the time it takes to fully charge the batteries. Its fine running up and down a test track with two locomotives as "loading", but let's wait and see how it goes on a huge iron ore train in the Pilabara. It will be a few more years yet before they replace diesel locomotives. Great video, well done.
Not sure how the Aussies are doing it but BNSF was or has them in the middle of 2 diesels were they get a charge off them...doubt they will phase diesel out in a few years, these will only save the company some cash....
Railroads should only order FLX Drives and Joules with T4 units as a lash-up imho. Australia has solar powered trains too. They should take that technology to the Outbacks
Solar powered overhead would have been ideal.. These will work in the west where they power up hill one way and dynamic brake down the other, what is lost is reacharged back into the batteries on the down hill runs.. If they can keep a loco powering to researched and designed perameters for its intended use I'm sure it may have benefits on some railways. Dynamic braking already wastes a massive amount of energy, storing it in batteries isn't the silliest thing I've read.

BHP #9001 is out and about being tested on the line with #2012 and #6006. Let's see how well this locomotive will hold up in the Pilbara region of Western Australia when it's delivered to BHP
Aren't these loco going crew less or crewed? And just like a model loco it comes with diesel locomotive sounds? So what does the battery locomotive sound like? What type of environment will this loc be working in tropical or desert or coastal? Will it catch fire in a hot environment? All i heard was horns and level crossing bells.

Thanks. They plan on pushing the technology to come as close as they can to a diesel.

Those were from the WNY&P/ Bath and Hammondsport. They were bought outright by Wabtec.
