This is probably the most helpful golf instruction video you will find anywhere. The concept of "turning your hips" can lead to a ton of problems but this shows the correct way to do it very simply. Thanks guys!
The title doesn’t lie. Took a break for about a year and handicap went from 7 to 12. Swing felt off and I probably watched nearly 90% of golf videos on internet to fix it 😅. Always thought it was the a tempo or backswing fault etc. But this video literally is the missing piece in the puzzle. Thank you so much
This is pure magic! I started this move about a week ago after watching a Mike Malaska video. Totally blown away by the result, this really helped me a lot. Thank you Mike!
after 10 yrs of playing golf, started following mike.s videos fervently again and again, improved handicap enormously- i am a weekend golfer, even tried it in Scottish courses -worked like a charm, great instructor to follow, his explanation is simple to understand,,,
That’s by far the best explanation for hip rotation l have ever heard and made me understand the missing part in my swing. Absolutely BRILLIANT! Thanks a lot
These guys are magic together!! Eric has so much knowledge but he lets Mike take the lead and perfectly clarifies key points Mike is making. Clay Ballard is awesome too but these guys are special together!
This may be the single best golf advice I've ever been given. Making sure the left hip is going back, away from the ball, rather than simply shifting weight to the left helped me make crisper contact with my irons and launch my driver further. Thank you so much for posting this video.
This is an amazing video!!!!! I struggle with rotation BAD!! I am looking forward to this drill. I am really enjoying all of you coaching videos. Truly remarkable. Thank you
To simplify this even more the feeling on the downswing is to get the weight on to my left heel. Everything else sorts itself out from that movement.Thank you Mike and Eric. If you look at the end of the video Eric really goes onto that left heel (eureka moment)
Best explanation i have seen period. I take lessons and have been working this very thing and the "hips clearing" just never made sense and frankly has caused discomfort in my back. Former high level athlete that understands how ot move and it just didn't feel natural. this explanation makes so much sense and more imprtantly just works
I watched this when it was first posted and a few times since. It was a real eye-opener for me as I used to try to push my right side around in an attempt to turn. Mike's approach is so much easier and, as he explained, removes all the stress on my lower back. It was good watching it again to cement the relevant thoughts in my mind.
Great seeing Malaska working with you! I also subscribe to Mike's channel and the thing I like about him is his explanation about the golf swing is "simple and understandable!" Like the way you methods blend together!
Nice video, Eric! All the very best to you and yours for 2022! I can see the respect/reverence you have for this guy! I wonder if you will be like him when you get to his current age ;-)! The venerable Mike Malaska!
Great timing. I have been working on this very move. I tend to sway my hips toward the target too much which leads to the right hip coming forward especially with the driver. I have found that my exaggerated feel needs to be the left hip clearing by pushing back and away from the target . It doesn’t do this on video but it’s the exaggerated anti sway feel I need. Great video. Thanks!
One mistake I’ve been making is not doing enough face on videos. Looking at one recently I noticed the excessive hip thrust. I didn’t understand the linkage with this thrust and the right hip moving forward until this video. I now feel like my hands have room to go down the line vs right field. I have fought blocks especially with the longer clubs for a long time especially swinging fast. I can’t wait to put this into practice.
Incredible. I didn't even know that early extension was killing my swing and crashing my iron shots. Mike, I will never thank you enough. This correction is a game changer. My swing is so much more fluid and consistent now. I never could really put my finger on the problem before, no matter how many videos I watched and I watched many. I'm having much more fun now.
A few videos back you talked about having the right (trail) shoulder pointing at the ball at contact. This lesson reinforces that concept and makes it easier to do. Can’t wait to try it.
EUREKA MOMENT. I've also been trying to slide to get into front foot pressure. After watching this I just keep the thought of pulling my left hip behind me and the club is falling perfectly into the slot too. Thank you!
This is one of the biggest game improvement techniques you will find! Just remember to keep your chest down over the ball (instead of standing up) when your lead hip pushes back. Between this and becoming aware of my swing path my game has dramatically improved. Thanks for the video!
So far so good! The only thing I´m always missing in these vids is the answer to the question: "How do I get the left hip up and back in the downswing?" My simple answer to this is (after years and years of trial and error), from the end of the backswing, when you are at the top and you feel the pressure on the instep of your left foot, pressure the left foot further down, out (to the left) and behind (to the left heel) while gradually straightening the left leg.
The key feel to me for this is getting my right hip moving toward the target without letting it go toward the ball like he said around 6 minutes. THAT is what finally has helped this click for me. Has had a great impact for me.
After trying the left hip "back" move for over a couple months, I found that focusing on driving the right shoulder down WILL cause that left hip to get pushed back and the end result is crisp, solid shots without EE. Try it without a ball...the hip will respond to the shoulder dipping down towards the ball as you come into impact - this also assures your hands are close to your body.
My interpretation of this is an imaginary "belt" from my left hip to my right wrist...when the left hip gets pushed behind me, the wrist "throws"...syncs everything up. Best Cogorno vid ever.
Mike Malaska is simply one of the greatest instructors out there. He probably has more knowledge of the way the body should move than a kinesiologist. That one simple move of pushing the hip socket back makes everything fall in line like tumbling dominoes. Many bigger name instructors like Leadbetter and Harmon can't touch this man for knowledge. Or how to impart it. There probably is no man alive that understands movement in a golf swing like Mike Malaska. Genius.
The connection between the hips and my wrists was my Aha moment. From inconsistent strikes to consistent contact through the ball complety changed my swing. Each person has there own swing puzzle but this for me got me down to a single figure handicap. Great video.
Two of my favorite UA-cam golf coaches in one video! Athletic motion golf has a great video that actually proves this with sensors on pros vs ams. This is exactly that happens. The term turn messed me up for years.
I even started incorporating this into my chips. My hips just swing my arms around my body now. Pull right hip back / out of the way. Then repeat on the left side. Great stuff guys
Hey.....I mean how did I not see this a year ago? Complete game changer and something about it just made sense to me. Went to the range today and felt like a new man.
Great tip and I’ll work on that! I took your early extension master class because that is probably the biggest problem in my swing but I’m definitely going to work on getting that feel with the left leg pushing the hip out of the way thanks for the tip Mike
I started doing this move about 3 months ago. At first, it was great. Then i went back to the rut. Now, I keep watching this video at least once a week - to make sure I get the sequences right. This now becomes the baseline and I work on generating more clubhead speed.
Eric, you did a video with JT a while back ago about moving your left shoulder across from zone 3(right heel) to zone 1(front left) on the downswing. Can this method still be used while doing Mr Malaska's hip turn(pushing left hip back by straightening the lest leg? Thanks!
Hey ! Yes! You would just feel that JT move EARLY in the downswing (from about top of backswing to left arm parallel in downswing) so only like 2 feet..... Then this would kick in more Also the JT move is really an EXAGGERATED FEEL to not open shoulders too quick----have to keep that in mind
This may explain why I occasionally "pop" something in my lumbar area (and then can't swing a club for 2-3 days). I do a good job of clearing my lead hip but I am now thinking I might be over-twisting rather than pushing back the hip. Yet another Cogorno-thought to keep in mind 😊
I went to a physio with the same thing. He said I had a Thoracic Spine Strain, he did his magic and hey presto I can now play 18 hotels without a twinge plus I'm hitting the ball like never before.
Hi Eric.... A big key here is keeping the right heel down until impact, as the left hip goes back. It also makes it easier to do But.... If that right heel comes up early, you are going to have problems with that force transfer. You have nothing to push off with when that heel comes up early... Your right hip and thigh move out toward the ball and your hands are stuck behind, and you block it right or flip the hands, and hook it left. This is what causes that early extension. With that right heel down until impact, and the correct left hip motion you demonstrate here, it is pretty much impossible to early extend. Cheers.
This is probably the most helpful golf instruction video you will find anywhere. The concept of "turning your hips" can lead to a ton of problems but this shows the correct way to do it very simply. Thanks guys!
Thank you, Ellis! Appreciate you watching!

Malaska is one of the very best. Glad to see him on your channel. Brilliant teacher.
No doubt---agreed!
This is pure magic! I started this move about a week ago after watching a Mike Malaska video. Totally blown away by the result, this really helped me a lot. Thank you Mike!
Love to hear that!

Mike had a great way of explaining the direction of the movement.
after 10 yrs of playing golf, started following mike.s videos fervently again and again, improved handicap enormously- i am a weekend golfer, even tried it in Scottish courses -worked like a charm, great instructor to follow, his explanation is simple to understand,,,
Love to hear that---hes awesome!
Great video!! I’ve struggled with this forever. So easy to understand and a great drill to practice. Thank you!!
Thanks! Hope it helps!
That’s by far the best explanation for hip rotation l have ever heard and made me understand the missing part in my swing. Absolutely BRILLIANT! Thanks a lot

Eric, thanks for this great series of videos with Mr. Malaska
Two great teachers working together, perfect !
Thanks, Frank! Lots of fun---Mike is awesome!!
There are a lot of golf videos online. This might be the best golf video out there. Seriously.
Thanks so much, Mark! Appreciate you watching!!
this video is pure coaching gold thank you so much!
Thank you! Appreciate you tuning in!
This is an amazing video!!!!! I struggle with rotation BAD!! I am looking forward to this drill. I am really enjoying all of you coaching videos. Truly remarkable. Thank you

40yrs of golfing and just finding this lesson. I need this!!!
Hope it helps!!
Incredible video. Crystal clear and the notes you provide to screenshot are perfect. Thank you so much gentlemen.
You got it Dom...Mike is great!
Once again a beautiful and simple explanation which is easier to understand and execute. Thanks 👍
Thanks, Shane!
Elegant explanation with clear, concise demonstration.
Thanks John
This is one of the best golf video’s that I have seen.
Thanks James!!
I’ve never heard the “turn” explained this way. This really makes it clear. It’s a whole different way of thinking about that move.
And completely different feel too for me
Hope it serves you well, John. Mike is awesome!
This clears up what to do to create proper hip movement, vs. straightening lead leg, sliding, or pelvis twisting. Thanks!
Yes :)
Excellent . Simple explanation of a swing principle that's not often talked about . Slante
Thanks Dennis!
To simplify this even more the feeling on the downswing is to get the weight on to my left heel. Everything else sorts itself out from that movement.Thank you Mike and Eric.

Thanks Stan!
Great info. Really clears up the hips for me. Thanks
You got it James---great stuff from Mike!!
Awesome content, thanks for capping it off with a quick drill!
Appreciate it!

Thanks John! Appreciate you watching!
this is exactly what I need! been a year struggle with hip rotation, always ended up with my right foot early extension. thanks Eric & Mike
Our pleasure! Hope it helps!!
All your videos are outstanding- thanks
Thanks so much, Chris!
Probably two of the best instructors working in tandem. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words!!
Thanks for sharing another great video, Eric.
Our pleasure, Andre!

Absolutely the best downswing drill ever. The results are immediate.
Thank you so much!

Wow what a great tip everything falls into place when you do this, and your finish looks correct .Takes the mystery out of the swing 😊😊
Glad this one was helpful!
Wonderful video - 2 great teachers
Thanks, Mike!

Love the videos with Mike. He is a very good teacher and great at explaining these concepts.
Thanks Lamar!!
Very articulate explanation. Even practicing without club in hand to get the feel.
100%
Another amazing vid. Good lord this is the greatest channel ever.
Thank you, Winston! Appreciate the support!
I love the video, easy to understand what I should to work on
Thank you!
EUREKA MOMENT. I've also been trying to slide to get into front foot pressure. After watching this I just keep the thought of pulling my left hip behind me and the club is falling perfectly into the slot too. Thank you!

I could watch you two break down the golf swing for hours. That said, there's a lot of wisdom packed into ten minutes here.
Thanks for your support!
As always Mike gives right explanation , love it
Hes great Jay
Exactly what I needed to see!!! Great video. Thank you!
Thank you!
So far so good! The only thing I´m always missing in these vids is the answer to the question: "How do I get the left hip up and back in the downswing?" You can feel it lots of ways
Push it back, weight to left heel, left knee around, left hip up and back etc etc
The key feel to me for this is getting my right hip moving toward the target without letting it go toward the ball like he said around 6 minutes. THAT is what finally has helped this click for me. Has had a great impact for me.

Yes that's a great one
Wow, very interesting. I can’t wait to get on the rage and work on this. Thanks as always Eric!
Our pleasure Chris! Hope it helps!!
Cogorno and Malaska combined are the coaching dream team🤙
Thanks, Michael! Wish we were closer and could do more often!
What a fantastic explanation. Love it!
Thank you Steve!
For me, keeping the left knee flexed through impact has helped me the most. Thanks for the content!
Our pleasure Kevin!
Best tip. Feeling like the left leg pushing that left hip socket back. No more shanks. Thank you.
Glad this one helped!👊
Sounds and looks great but a lot to remember. Need to practice. Thanks for the series.
Thanks for watching! Hope your practice goes great!
Love it! Nice to know I'm on the right track. Took awhile to figure out slide, rotate, turn, etc. My body does this hip back naturally :) Cool Beans!
:)
Great stuff again , thanks to Mike too!!
Thank you!!
YES!!! Thank you for the content
Our pleasure, Thomas!
You two together are the best
Thanks Moe!!
This helped tremendously. Way to keep it simple. Thanks a lot
Next thing I gotta stop doing is scooping my wrists at impact. Any tips for that??
Love it! Check this video out below!

Best Cogorno vid ever.
Thank you, Joel! Appreciate you watching the channel!
The two best coaches on UA-cam
Thanks so much!
Really good explanation of the hip "rotation". Danny Maude has similar videos about the hip movement being in straight line which are great to watch
Thanks, Jason!

I learnt this over the weekend and my contact improved so much I was shocked!
Love to hear this!
Great video. Appreciate the wonderful content and your hard work.

Nice video perfect explanation that’s easy to understand . Another winning advice from the pro
Appreciate it, Charlie!

Appreciate your support!

Best video yet
Thanks!
This was the missing link in my golf swing. Thank you very much!
Our pleasure, Tomy! Appreciate you watching the channel!
Very helpful!!!

@CogornoGolf Eric, thank's for answering my question so fast. Your golf instruction is by far the best out there!
Shot, that is exactly my problem. My hip stopped rotating and caused all kind of problems....great video, thank you Eric.
Our pleasure, Eddie!
Hahaa hope it helps ya Mike!!

Absolute gold 👏
Appreciate it----great day with Mike last year!
Top class instruction
Thanks, Richy! Mike is great!
🤯Thank you!!!

You are “smart” Mike! This is the nitty gritty for me. Very well done both. Best wishes. Tim
:) Thank you Tim!

숏 어프로치에서 생크가 자주나서 고민됐었는데 문제를 분명히 알었습니다 잘 배웠습니다 감사합니다
Couldn’t wait to practice in a driving range! Thanks.
Hope it helps!
As I watch this two things come to mind, Tigers back surgery and me having a tendency to tip forward sometimes when I swing. Brilliant
Thanks for watching, Deb!
awesome vid!
Thanks, Andrew!
