Can't wait to try this. I've been trying to fix my early extension for a year. This clears up a lot of what I need to do compared to all the other vids on this topic. Thanks guys!
Hey Milo, I just wanted to check in to say thanks. I don't know which video it was but in one you said to keep turning the rib cage (I guess this is the same as the chest) also, if I understood right, the hands exit the strike up and left. This is something I'd never understood completely but did sometimes and when I did I was amazed. The ball sailed long and straight. But then I could never find it again like the next day. What I did sense to many times I'd get jambed up by not continuing to turn, and my hands and arms had no where to go so I'd flip. You also said something like: Keep turning and concentrate on this after hitting the ball. I tend to focus too much on the back swing but focusing on the through swing this way is amazing. Anyway, I want to say thanks for the advice. Keep em coming! I love finding people who are actually great at something and can explain it to others as well. You are a rare coach indeed!
You've solved the mystery of the "clear the hips" advise. I've always felt that by trying to clear the right hip, you actually put it in the way of the arm delivery package (by spinning like the Tiger video) . When I see you move the hips away from the toe line you are making room to attack at the proper angle. Great work!!
This is so good. Guys, take a facetime lesson with Milo. I literally took two and just shot a 79 and a 74 back-to-back. It's also worth noting that I've watched about 10 hours of his content and it's been all about the body. I saw some other comments here about "too much talking" and "you don't swing a club." I promise you the club is the least of my problems. I know it's been said a million times, but the whole thing literally works its way up from the feet and ends with the hands. Completely counterintuitive, but personally that's what I love about golf. Water right? AIM RIGHT. OB left? AIM LEFT. Cmon. Makes no sense. If you want to hit the ball better with your hands, you have to start with this body move.

Thank U so very much for this video - I am convinced that this hip move will be the solution for all golfers with back problems, who have spinned their hips.
Really like this explanation. Now I have shorter arms than my height. This type of action seems to work a tad better for higher hand type backswing. Have you found this could work with a little flatter back swing as long as it has the same stretch? I imagine that would produce more of a push draw.
Hey great vid! Quick question, what does the weight distribution look like from the starting from the hip flexion to downswing? I just started golfing and I have more weight on my leading leg
Great video and super clear explanation! today I've hit around 50 balls on the range to feel it, and shot a 68 just after it. you've got a new sub @Milo
The key for me was learning not to pivot around left hip (spin out) instead pivot around right hip which helps me stay centered and rotate. Pivoting around left hip creates early extension for me and is a massive power leak

Nice video. How do you not chunk/fat your shots when you lower your pelvis? My miss is fat and I stay tall too much. I’ve just never understood how the “squat” or lowering the pelvis wouldn’t bring my club face even closer to the ground. Please explain.
I’ve seen a few but when I turn out of the way (left), I have tendency to hit toe or slice. How do you turn left without pulling your arms with you? Plus, doesn’t the turn come after contact? I’m worried about being too low at impact.
you absolutely rocket that lead hip up and left. When I do this my stick looks like it just stays parallel to the ground. Is it the flex in the trail hip that gives you the angle?
Absolutely do not spin out or twist your right hip for the downswing. However to start the downswing Bobby Jones years ago said to simply twitch/ fire the left/lead hip ( right handed players). At 77 that one swing thought has change my golfing life for the better. The fact is that our lead side small fast twitch muscles provide the sling shot effect explosive power for our downswing. Cheers. 🥂😊👍❤️V
hi Milo, from HK across the world here finding your pivot series super helpful. just wondering if you could give tips on where you feel foot pressure is as you "sit down" during the transition. Recalled you said in another vid at the top of the backswing it was approx 80/20 trail/front foot split with pressure in heel for trail foot and big toe for lead foot and wanted to see if feeling the pressure over heels as you "sit down" (bend at hips and knees) is correct. Thanks for the vids!
Great video. Question: I struggle with ball striking consistency from time to time, usually hitting fat shots. I'm really trying to work on the methods you're showing us but with incorporating that squat or dip into the mix how do I train myself to not hit fat shots? My arms are a bit longer than average and this drill creates the feel that I'll hit it even fatter if that makes sense.
It's very common at first to do that as we are not accustomed to matching it up with how we power the club out of the top. I would suggest checking out my online academy at milolinesgolf.com so I can help you individually.
Gotta match it up with proper sequencing and how you are powering it or lack there of with hands and arms. I'd recommend watching some of our other content to see.
I really like this thought for learning to hit with my right side and get open at impact, the issue seems to be hitting it fat sometimes, is there something to concentrate on to stop from crashing into the ground from keeping the right arm bent and into the shot? Thanks a bunch for the tips!
Hey Luke, typically I see players powering the club to hard out of the top with their hands and arms so that could be happening, but I'd have to see your swing to give you the best feedback. It's a different pattern so chunking a few at first is common. Have you looked into joining my online academy? milolinesgolf.com
I am looking into it! Me and my 14 year old son are huge golfers and it’s winter up here in MN. We have the new protee vx launch monitor and a full simulator at home. Thanks for the reply, I will check out the site!
I did it in baseball and have always done it in my golf swing but didn’t know better until I started coaching and saw how many players do the opposite so I’ve worked on and experimented with many ways to help students learn.
@@MiloLinesGolf Cameron Champ does the hip hinge move at transition as well as anyone , key is bending the knees where the knees are above the laces and not the toes and pushing the backside back , in the correct hip hinge the upper body jack knife downwards as the knees bend and backside goes back, the more you hip hinge the further behind the backside goes the more you bend the knees and the more the upper body bends forward. All those movements are connected in the hip hinge movement. I have worked on this and had to do lots of leg and pivot movements for 6 weeks with combined pump drills before I could do it in the swing and only then at half speed, I found it is not an easy thing to get in because the upper body motions are much more advanced and developed than the lower body motions and have to wait for the legs to catch up.
Looks athletic, like you have to let the knee’s bend and flex through the swing. How much of spinning do you think comes from people being so rigid trying to keep their head still or stay centered?
Could definitely be a part of it, we don't like to see a lot of X factor in the downswing created by twisting/spinning the hips open with the chest turned away.
Great video. Does the pressure shift to the left side precede the “squat “ or does it happen concurrently? It’s dynamic I am aware. At P5 I think pressure is mostly on left side as you are stacked?
The great Moe Norman said that there was too much movement to hit a little ball. I try to hit golf ball with my belt facing it. Goes pretty straight. I dont turn until after I hit the ball which is really a natural reaction.
Athletic Motion Golf has a video virtually just the opposite of this , they call it saggy knees . Multiple versions or patterns that leave those of us who really don’t have access proper golf instruction lost and bewildered 😳
@@waynepark the truth is good swings fall into movement ranges and what a struggling player must feel to transform their current pattern into that range may be wildly different than what the 3d says good players are doing. If only coaching were as easy as telling students this is what good players do so do it.
Which video ? As far as I know AMG did not teach something opposite to this. Maybe phrased differently but definitely something similar to this concept. Keeping the spine angle is a very basic consensus. Too many amateurs are thinking about turning the waist but actually it's more about core and left hip moving backwards.
I just started golfing 6 months ago. I am not ready for this lol. I am still learning to do my back swing and hit the ball. But hopefully one day I can get this sequence down.
I noticed there is no mention of the left leg after the squaring and squatting position pushing into the ground to power the hit. Seems like you recommend the right leg hip and right side of the body powerfuly turing and the left leg only reacting to this powerful move rather than being the main source creating acceleration and power. much talk around that the left leg creates all the power we need. Been trying that method but it seems to stop me from getting to my left leg and completing my weight shift and no power and a outside in swing pattern. What you guys have described with a right side push after the squatting seems way more powerful. Your thoughts on this highly recommend left leg push for power, please in one of your lessons i believe you guys even recommended a left leg push and straighten for power in the downswing. So so confusing. Tks for your time
@MiloLinesGolf tks for the quick response. Apparently iam not getting it How does one get that powerful 369 degree of rotation that you show is that all from turning the chest through the ball. I noticed that in your recommendations. Guess iam not the sharpest tac in the box. Can you help me get this
@MiloLinesGolf ok thank you very much i will definitely incorporate that motion in my very next outing which i hope will be Friday. Cant wait. With the way i play golf i should have quit many years ago. Its such a beautiful game and i dont want to quit bottom line.
IMHO, the absolutely safest way to swing a club for your back. I try and keep the handle of the club, the shoulders and the hips parallel from the top through impact. Feel vs. Real. It moves all the rotation as it were to the legs, and takes all the stress off of the back. One key for me is to feel like there is a tennis ball on the back of my left shoulder. In my minds eye, I turn my shoulders in the backswing until the tennis ball is on the back of the golf ball. On the downswing I feel as though that tennis ball is moving down and then back away from the target. That keeps my angles. In my head , the second the tennis ball stops, the hands release…….so I just never stop it :). It takes a bit of timing to match the “handle” of the club, the shoulders and the hips, but it helps to pause at the top of the swing and “collect” the energy you have created before you start the downswing. Back pain is the worst!
When I try the flex and drop (or whatever you called it) I end up hitting the ground about 2 to 6 inches behind the ball. I guess it is due to this being a very odd feeling for me to do what you are telling us to do in the video. So how does someone who hits the ball with my current swing but not very long in distance to be able to hit the ball rather than drive my club head into the ground behind the ball when using the procedure you are promoting in this video?
I'd have to see your swing to offer the best feedback, but typically when learning to lower and move athletically I see amateurs throw the club into the ground as that's how they power the club out of the top. Matching it up with the proper sequence and wrist conditions in the key matchup. Have you looked into joining my online academy so I can help further? milolinesgolf.com
Yes, but it won't be quite as pronounced, and there will likely be a bit more extension through the hitting area. I like to feel and see the same athletic sequence / movement though. Hope this helps!
This was my complete misunderstanding too. I actually thought the arms were supposed to get pinned against the chest on the turn. Thanks for clarifying.
Great video.. However ; Some people have been having tons of success doing a freezer drill all the way to impact. Their bodies will react to the feeling of applying speed after the ball They appear to drop and open thru a reaction of when their applying clubhead speed.
I've been one who has just a slight early extension in my golf swing for my entire life of golf. In the last year I really focused on staying "deep." However I find it very difficult to stay deep and turn my hips out of the way properly. It's just a very uncomfortable move. And my whole body rotation feels awkward
It's possible you are trying to hard to open up your hips. You could use your chest more or how you are matching things up with the COM could be the issue...I'd have to see your swing to give you the best feedback. Have you looked into my online academy? milolinesgolf.com
My hips wre way ahead of my torso. Tjey go around, pull my hands outside and when my hands get the clubhead to the ball, I have the club head moving at about 45 degrees to the lind I am trying to hit.
It looked like you went down much lower when first demonstrating this move. The last two at the end of the video looked like you were much more upright. Which is it? Just to be clear. Thanks
With proper sequence and wrist conditions. Most tend to power hard out of the top with hands and arms. I encourage you to watch some of my other videos for more info on this and the matchups I prefer.
Can you help me understand where to add the speed when moving like this? I’m a spinner, stuck way under the plane, and it’s because my stupid brain can only make sense of ripping the club from the top as fast as I can. When I try this pelvis drop and hips back thing, I feel like I’m just stuck there and I have no ability whatsoever to add speed. It’s driving me nuts because I can see how your swings and the pros swings look, but I can’t figure out how to actually use it.
I’ll add that you mention feeling the speed with your chest, but that doesn’t seem to work for me. I end up just pulling across my body when I do that.
I’d love to help but in order to give you personalized advice I need to see your swing and gather more information. Please consider a lesson or becoming a member of my online academy so I can coach you through the process. milolinesgolf.com
If anyone wonders, there's never a separation of arms and body. Just think of swinging a golf club like you would through ball. You'll go a long way. 2.4 hcp experience
Practice using tennis balls instead of golf balls! Practice move in slow motion A few times before you make a full.swing. Practice partial.swings mimicking the impact conditions and hit tennis balls again. Then use golf balls. Once you get good at using tennis balls (so you're less !likely to hit fat) try using lacrosse balls. Be very sure you have strong wrists, forearms,shoulders,etc... Before attempting this and use an old 8 or 9 iron. Eventually your brain will adapt to the new timing .
G'Day Milo, I would like to let you know that the World Cup of One Day Cricket is on in India. Australia is playing like garbage, but the games are great and there are dozens of matches left before the quarter and semi finals, which will be brutal. The format for the games is 50 overs per team, this is called "One Day Cricket" the most pure form is Test Cricket (5 days) and the other a very short version called T20, which is 20 overs per match. As a bat and ball man I know you would love it as you once had a batsman playing a shot in your introduction. Please check your guide for LIVE matches (very early in the morning for you) or just watch the replays or highlights when you can. I know you have a young family and need to be working, but I just wanted to let you know that this plethora, this smorgasbord, this Jimmy Buffet of cricket is on. Thanks mate "love ya work."
I'm sorry to hear that, hopefully you can get it sorted out and feel better playing the game again. Have I seen your swing? Just getting deep will not give you power or accuracy. That's a huge fallacy. The key to golf is to focus on the up and down forces and your clubface. Up and down forces will produce the right horizontal and rotational forces. As a golfer, you cannot focus on three forces during your golf swing plus the clubface. Initially, you have to get command of the clubface through your hands, wrists, and arms. Then you can focus on the power of the up and down forces in golf. Bad golfers have very little understanding of the clubface. It's that simple. If you can't hit fades and draws with your hands, wrists, and arms, you will never be able to control the club.
Certainly much truth in your comment, but this is just one video I have shared. To say I teach some armless, handless golf swing is also a huge fallacy as you say.
@@MiloLinesGolf I didn't mean to suggest that, Milo. I'm just emphasizing that the up and down forces often are the keys to getting the right horizontal and rotational forces too. So many golfers focus on the rotational aspect alone and neglect the import of the up and down forces. Your advice about the down force is essential to the transition. A lot of avid golfers and decent player do not get their pelvis and shoulder moving down and around in transition. Your video is very good advice overall, and I much appreciate your insight. Keep up the great work!
They are not explaining that you have to come up after you have gone down You dont just go down and turn if you do that you will hit the ground behind the ball You drop and pop

Talk about making the golf swing over complicated! Yikes! The ball is on the ground. Tiger found out this little secret when he worked with Butch back in 2000. Watch that video from the golf channel and that’s all you need to know.
That dip changes the.distance between you and the ball cause a fat strike. Even your demo you don’t really dip during your swing. But you’re telling us to squat as we turn????
I’m not buying it. If one lowers their body and then has to bring it back up and turn. It takes a GREAT DEAL OF COORDINATION.. MOST PEOPLE won’t be able to do this at speed. I’d rather try to develop stack and tilt.

I'm not sure what your gripe is here, millions of people, including coaches have referred to (and re-posted) this video and we simply used it as a way to demonstrate the "ole" move where the pelvis spins and thrusts vs flexing and creating space. Pretty confident he would agree it's not what we want our pelvis to be doing, nor thinking of twisting or spinning.
Sergio says it, Justin Rose says it, Ernie Else says it, Pete Cowen says it... It is first an arm swing and you have to bring your arms down first. The hips will follow your arms.

Nice video. How do you not chunk/fat your shots when you lower your pelvis? My miss is fat and I stay tall too much. I’ve just never understood how the “squat” or lowering the pelvis wouldn’t bring my club face even closer to the ground. Please explain.
You turn out of the way. We have lots of videos on the topic.
Big part of it.
10/10 on that 390° spin landing.
He's an athlete 😂
Thanks guys, great video 👌🏼
You bet, thanks so much for watching!
50/50 at finish of back swing 80/20 by p5
thanks @@MiloLinesGolf will try this out!
I would suggest checking out my online academy at milolinesgolf.com so I can help you individually.
would you have to master making the transition to the to moving forward as you are finishing (not yet completed) backswing to allow this to work?
ua-cam.com/video/s_ALqmSHhUE/v-deo.html
Can you explain by squatting as you rotate, the chest is closer to the ball so what prevents the club from pounding way behind the ball?
Milo, Did you do the hip hinge backside back move in your baseball swing? Is that where you got the movement from?
Viktor hovland mentioned pivoting around the right leg is that the feel you r describing?
Depends...golfers feel things differently...some feel more lead side, some more trail side. The flexed state is more the constant.
Great video. Does the pressure shift to the left side precede the “squat “ or does it happen concurrently? It’s dynamic I am aware. At P5 I think pressure is mostly on left side as you are stacked?
Same time, and lead side pressure typically maxes out around P5, yes.
I now just do a triple lutz as I hit the ball, which has great results, but how do I keep my dress from getting in the way?
😂
The great Moe Norman said that there was too much movement to hit a little ball. I try to hit golf ball with my belt facing it. Goes pretty straight. I dont turn until after I hit the ball which is really a natural reaction.
Moe Norman’s belt was 45* open and his chest was close to that much at contact. Feel and real don’t match up generally.
Athletic Motion Golf has a video virtually just the opposite of this , they call it saggy knees . Multiple versions or patterns that leave those of us who really don’t have access proper golf instruction lost and bewildered 😳
Hmm, can't say I've seen that one. Could you add a link so I can see what they are referring to?
ua-cam.com/video/JPMK5YkuIoM/v-deo.htmlsi=PHJmJD48Qs7wjRUd
AMG only tells the truth. No feelings.
Love it, thanks boys.
Our pleasure!
I just started golfing 6 months ago. I am not ready for this lol. I am still learning to do my back swing and hit the ball. But hopefully one day I can get this sequence down.
Welcome! If we can be of any help to you in your golfing journey, please reach out at milolinesgolf.com.
Tks for your time
I think you’re misunderstanding I don’t remember saying anything about pushing off the right side.
@MiloLinesGolf tks for the quick response. Apparently iam not getting it How does one get that powerful 369 degree of rotation that you show is that all from turning the chest through the ball. I noticed that in your recommendations. Guess iam not the sharpest tac in the box. Can you help me get this
@@georgetinwick3450 yes turn the chest. Your lead leg will brace itself.
@MiloLinesGolf ok thank you very much i will definitely incorporate that motion in my very next outing which i hope will be Friday. Cant wait. With the way i play golf i should have quit many years ago. Its such a beautiful game and i dont want to quit bottom line.
Im on my second week of not playing due to lower back pain. Obsessed with hip clearing.
If we can of any help, please do reach out at milolinesgolf.com.
Would you use this same type of move with a driver?
Yes, but it won't be quite as pronounced, and there will likely be a bit more extension through the hitting area. I like to feel and see the same athletic sequence / movement though. Hope this helps!
That 390 degree spin was worth watching this video lol so cool, and great lesson guys TY.
Haha, twirler ...thanks for watching!
how do you prevent the left arm from naturally getting pinned to the chest as you transition? instead "coming along" for the turn as you mention?
I usually see it get too across in the backswing, or the student is looping the arms too much.
This was my complete misunderstanding too. I actually thought the arms were supposed to get pinned against the chest on the turn. Thanks for clarifying.
but my head will be lowered when i bend. Is that okay? the head position would change along down swing high low and high.
The mead moves slightly in the golf swing, and lowers a bit in transition among the game's best.
Wasnt the classic golf swing more about the hips "turning" instead of depth? Payne stewart, Sam Snead etc
Great video.. However ; Some people have been having tons of success doing a freezer drill all the way to impact. Their bodies will react to the feeling of applying speed after the ball
They appear to drop and open thru a reaction of when their applying clubhead speed.
Very cool sounds like a drill from my website

I've been one who has just a slight early extension in my golf swing for my entire life of golf. In the last year I really focused on staying "deep." However I find it very difficult to stay deep and turn my hips out of the way properly. It's just a very uncomfortable move. And my whole body rotation feels awkward
It's possible you are trying to hard to open up your hips. You could use your chest more or how you are matching things up with the COM could be the issue...I'd have to see your swing to give you the best feedback. Have you looked into my online academy? milolinesgolf.com
Ok thanks. Maybe I'm forcing it. I've checked out your website and I'll dig more into your videos.
My hips wre way ahead of my torso. Tjey go around, pull my hands outside and when my hands get the clubhead to the ball, I have the club head moving at about 45 degrees to the lind I am trying to hit.

How do you do this and not hit behind the ball

I can get this down with my irons and wedges, but can't seem to get synced up with the driver....
There typically won't be as much down with driver, and there will be more extension through and past impact.
This drill fixes a lot of golf swing problems that do not occur if you learn this sequence.
You got it
Milo, you training for figure skating yet?
No lol
Every time i attempt any move like this i hit the ground well before the ball. 😢
Probably extending the hips early-it will kick the club out ironically or maybe you are throwing your club out instead of lagging it

If anyone wonders, there's never a separation of arms and body. Just think of swinging a golf club like you would through ball. You'll go a long way. 2.4 hcp experience
Not sure I understand what you’re intending?
That’s what I feel too

With all the drop here I feel I am hitting it fat. How do we avoid that.
Gotta match it up with how you power the club and wrist conditions. I'd recommend watching more of our videos so you can see how it works.
Australia is playing like garbage, but the games are great and there are dozens of matches left before the quarter and semi finals, which will be brutal. how would I know how much to drop?
Enough to miss the stick

There is an amount of lowering in practically every high level golfer, this couples with the pivot and some amount of shaft lean.
The video keeps emphasing what is wrong. Emphasing what is the correct move may be more useful and save tons of time.
I believe we did emphasize the correct motions in this video.

Just a little marketing thing...those watch my channel know this for sure!
