    Good to hear. I've 30+ hours on mine and it is running great. I have a 11ft Inflatable full of fishing gear 20mph was my top speed always with 2 people. I also added the SE 200 hydrofoil to get a Quick plane at lower speed with that installed I lost end speed but still get 17mph. Great motor.
    I was curios about getting parts if I ever need but someone mentioned that uses Tohatsu.
    Great Video. Next do it on the water

    I have the same engine. It runs great and starts fast, but the idle is terrible. I've adjusted the idle adjustment many times and can't get it to idle without dying. Raising the idle, and using the first choke setting helps, but getting in gear at that higher idle isn't great for the gears. I just took apart the carb and replaced the fuel line and fuel filter. I'll give it a try later today in a barrel. Next step is carb replacement. I have to mention that after removing the fuel bowl there was a black rubber plug in one of the jets, probably the idle. I thought I'd remove it to see if it will help run richer while idling. If it ran worse could always replace it. BTW, it's fully broken-in and like you am running 40/1 fuel mix.
    UPDATE: I tank tested the motor and after fiddling with the idle adjustments and it's running great. I don't know whether cleaning the carb (it wasn't very dirty) or removing the rubber plug worked, but it's running great now. I'll possibly lake test it later today. Glad I didn't order that replacement carb from eBbay!

    I bought one of these outboards as well, added gear oil, mixed my gas, put it on the stand with muffs, fired up on first pull, Im in the break in process so far so good.

      Yes indeed, mine fired about a quarter way out on the first pull. I had the motor on my Saturn Triton, when I primed and started it for the first time. I'm on my 8th hour now. I ran it for 5 hours on the Mississippi two day's ago and even did a short U Tube video.

    Looks OK to me.
    My old Merc 200 (20 hp) is 55 years old and still runs. It's not heavily used, of course. So I guess the true test is time.
    One thing I have noted on the Hangkai is corrosion. They may lack zinc chromate paint primer. Keep the motor clean and dry after use and perhaps wax it. That may help prevent the minor corrosion issue.
    Happy boating.

    This is a straight up copy of Tohatsu (many Mercury’s are also made by Tohatsu as are most small Evinrudes, etc.). Tohatsu is without doubt a great motor.

    I just recently bought a 15hp Hangkai from AliExpress for $1462.00 I just mounted it on a 15' fiberglass skiff. I've ran it in a barrel (had to prime it with muffs at first as well) looking forward to sea trial.

    Absolutely great review! And I'm very glad that you like your Hangkai outboard😀 No need to buy a Mercury or Yamaha. Chinese engines are just as good and cost way less! The 9.8 and 12 hp 2 stroke Hangkai outboards are based on a Tohatsu 8/9.8 so you can use Tohatsu parts to it if you want :) Btw, do you use synthetic 2 stroke oil in the fuel?

    • @timhuggins9366
      @timhuggins9366  3 роки тому +2

      Yes the only 2 stroke marine oil Orielly carries here locally is Synthetic so thats what i used. Lol thanks for the comment!!! Glad u enjoyed the video

    • @THe9-3MAnIaC
      @THe9-3MAnIaC 3 роки тому +1

      @@timhuggins9366 Nice! Every oil should be fully synthetic because it's much better to prevent wear compared to ordinary mineral oil.
      About the fuel, you can use fuel with ethanol in it, it does no damage and your engine will emit less soot. I use E5 95 in Sweden in a Suzuki DT15 from 1984/1985 and runs with no problems. E5 95 in Sweden is like 89 octane E5 in USA. The new E10 fuel will be introduced here in Sweden in August this year and I looking forward to that!
      And I enjoyed the video 😀

    • @timhuggins9366
      @timhuggins9366  3 роки тому +1

      @@THe9-3MAnIaC thats good to know the manual said not to use anything less than 90 octane in this motor and also said no ethanol.

    • @THe9-3MAnIaC
      @THe9-3MAnIaC 3 роки тому +2

      @@timhuggins9366 I think that the manufacturer are a bit sceptic to the quality of the ethanol. Sulfate is bad for engines, ethanol contained high levels of sulfate before, like 2010, but nowadays it exists regulations of how much sulfate that is allowed to get contained with the ethanol. . So now the E85 or ethanol isn't that bad for engines.
      If you have any questions about ethanol, feel free to ask 😀
      Talking about fuel and that sort of stuff: If you will store your outboard quite a long time, like a month or more, run the engine completely out of fuel in the carburetor before putting it in store. Disconnect the external fuel line from the engine and let the engine run to its shutting down, then you are sure that it's no gasoline inside the carb or very little at least. It prevents deposits in the carburetor which means less truble with dirt clogging the jets.

      When my brother bought his new mercury 25hp he was told 10 hour break in time on it as well. The whole reason is proper ring seating takes time thats the reason for varied rpm range and a heavy oil mix and the hours of time.

    what is strange to me is the displacement is 169CC for a 12hp whereas the 9.9hp Mercury is 208cc and the 9.9 hp Suzuki is 327 (because it's the same as their 20hp just tuned down) The older Mercury 2 stroke 9.9hp was 169cc.. I'm thinking this motor is really a 9.9hp not a 12 as advertised..
