  • July 16, 1983 from Memphis TV. This segment opens with Jimmy Hart vs Andy Kaufman from the Mid-South Coliseum on July 11, 1983. Hart's First Family jumps Andy during the match. Kaufman says he wants revenge on Hart and attempts to recruit arch-enemy Jerry Lawler to be his partner against the Mouth of the South. But could this be a set up?

The 1980s was the best time for pro wrestling in my opinion.

When you listen to Lawler talk about this, it's obvious how much he loved Kaufman and wishes they had been able to go with this for years.

They were best friends. Kaufman stayed at his house.

I could watch 80's wrestling all day long, this garbage that the WWE is spewing is revolting.

This is where you noticeably see a change in Kaufmans complexion, he is starting to look sick here but I dont think he even knew he had cancer yet.

Wrestling has been lacking this since Vince rang the bell in Montreal.

Yep Kayfabe dead, business exposed. The Attitude era was a "flash in the pan" so to speak. It worked because the business was being exposed, people were interested in that, and all of the "adult stuff" were things we never thought we'd see wrestlers do. It probably hurt the business in the long run.

Fascinating theatre...just look at the faces of those people in the audience...if that isn't hubris and suspension of disbelief; I don't know what is...Genius.

HA! HA! HA! What a great setup for the continuation of the epic Kaufman-Lawler-Hart feud and a predictably massive and despicable betrayal that is surely coming...... and the audience EATS it up!!!!! Are people this easily controlled and manipulated? Does a bear shit in the woods? HA! HA! HA! Wonderful work by Kaufman and Lawler.

Not sure what hills you are referring to. Long way to the Ozarks and the Smokey’s. Can’t get much flatter terrain than The Delta terrain all around Memphis.
