- July 23, 1983 from Memphis TV. In the words of Brian Alvarez..shenanigans! Andy Kaufman and Jimmy Hart, along with the Assassins, celebrate their big swerve of the King. The July 18, 1983 match with Kaufman and Lawler vs. the Assassin and Hart is shown. Note, these are not the same Assassins from Georgia and Mid Atlantic. Another great angle in this series. Lawler's response is to bring in the always great Austin Idol.

Andy Kaufman clearly demonstrates why it is always 10 times easier to con someone than it is to convince someone that they are being conned. He gave his audience exactly what they wanted, while keeping the con. I love it.

I came here because I love Andy Kaufman but it's really cool to see the talent all around. I love what these guys were able to achieve in this domain. It's cool to see Andy had a hand in publicizing professional wresting.
And to think, Vince McMahon passed on the chance to work with Andy. Andy was an awesome heel.
Such a shame that Andy Kaufman wasn't involved in wrestling from the beginning of his carrear, he would of been such a star and up there with all the greats!
The best actor here is Jerry Lawler. He had the Memphis fans wrapped around his finger, as heel and as face.

This angle worked to perfection because 1.) Lawler, himself was put in the hospital at some point. Andy didn't lose all the time he was in Memphis and 2.) Jerry Jarrett, Lawler, Hart, and Kaufman all took their time to work this angle. From 1982 to 1983???

According to Wikipedia (I know, I know) Kaufman found out around Thanksgiving '83. In some of the videos I'll post shortly leading up to their boxer vs wrestler matches you'll see that Andy just didn't look good. His cough also becomes more apparent in some of his interviews.
