Maybe on my next trip to Orkney I will return to this site and make a proper film. I don't think this site is as well known as the Ness of Brodgar sites or Skara Brae.

Did you go into the little museum at the Broch? It was closed for lunch when I was there, and the high price of entry made me not want to hang about in the drizzle to pay to go into the little building. I may have missed an opportunity, since the value in the wee building may have been in the curator’s memory rather than in its souvenir content.

I remember going into the ticket office, I don't remember a little museum.

A couple of the enclosures that appeared to be for fires have square borders. This is similar to the ones at Skara Brae. The hearth is a central and important cultural feature of homes. I wonder if the angularity of their hearths related to world views? So many cultures had rounded hearth, which may have been an expression of their sense of the normality of cycles and the flow of life. A square hearth also creates a tripping hazard in those small spaces, so it seems like it was important to them to have squares. Could there have been an Egyptian connection? You can’t build a pyramid on a circle.😁

I noticed similarities with the Broch of Gurness and Skara Brae. Thanks for watching and leaving comments which helps the channel.
