Thanks Kendra! I appreciate the comment. There’s very few things we women can’t accomplish when we put our minds to it! Good luck on you BIG tiny journey. I’d love to hear about it when start. Let me know if I can help in any way. 🙏🏼❤️.
@@myBIGtinyhouselife Thank you so much! I will keep you posted. I'm still in the design phase and was wondering if there was a part of your build you wish you had done differently after living in it for awhile?
Hi, actually that’s a video topic I have planned for July when I celebrate one full year in my tiny. There are a couple of things but nothing huge (at least not yet 😁).
Been doing exactly the same thing here! Used to live a few miles from the man who started it all in Petaluma, CA and have been head over heels with the ideology and lifestyle ever since. She has a great channel here. It's truly inspiring!
After watching endless tiny house videos, UA-cam presented me with yours. Your house is gorgeous and your talks are so helpful that I’m sure I will have watched all your videos by the time I realize my own tiny home dream about a year from now. I am 77 and I want to spend my remaining years in a tiny home of my dreams, not in an assisted living type nightmare of a condo. In my other dream, my husband (80), inspired by my tiny home, will design and build his own. His home will be parked on the other side of the covered courtyard that our tinies share.
I LOVE your dream scenario! There’s something to be said for having your own space. You could even build a tiny studio for crafts, art, music or any other hobby.
I’m wanting a tiny house so badly . I’m 64 I have some limitations cause I’m on oxygen sometimes but I can still do a lot too. My problem my sons don’t think I should live in one ! But they haven’t been studying them for 5 years either. They would have me in assisted living but that would cost way more. Even trying to sell them on an RV in a warmer climate they want me to rent. I want my own home. Your build is perfect almost lol.love the close up stairs
@@myBIGtinyhouselife Im having trouble feeling like I need their permission? So I am secretly figuring it out and saving my money and then I will present it . There’s u trust involved her e it’s mine but oldest is trustee lol.long story if I h ave to go to court I will but that’s not the way I want to do ut. He would r at her see me rent forever and I disagree.
At 56, that is my dream for myself and my husband, too. I crave a small, neat space that's easy to keep clean and tidy. I hope you can fulfill your dream.
Your children must be so proud of you. You are truly amazing to me. Very pretty and independent. You remind me of my daughter, she is so independent and also amazing. Good for you. Love your videos.💕
I also live in Calgary and my mom wants to live in a tiny house. I was so afraid about the cold that I told her it was a very bad idea. It was really good to see this vídeo, it change my mind. Thanks!
Hey!! I too live in Calgary and was thrilled to see this video because I was curious on how they are during the cold snaps. I am in the begining stages of decluttering and following the minimalists to aim to living in a tiny home in the next couple years or so. I would love to see yours in person and chat with you if you are open to that. It looks so cozy and organized. Well Done!!!
I just cannot imagine that level of cold as I live in sub-tropical Africa. Love the design of your tiny home. It's has one of the best layouts I've ever seen.
I have found that a string or two of Christmas lights are a valuable asset when it comes to knowing if you have tripped a breaker that powers heat cables. Living in Central NY with brutal winters at times it can save you a headache. Living in a manufactured home for almost 25 years you learn a trick or two.
This is good information for folks living in a tiny home or plan to, ,I did not know your channel was a series, I am enjoying catching up, thanks for sharing.
Hello! I'm excited to find you and your channel as a Canadian perspective on things such as winter are interesting. I'm needing to watch the previous videos and catch up. From a Saskatchewan neighbour.

Hi! Love your videos! It’s great to see a Canadian woman doing this! I have been following tiny houses for years and keep a collection of designs I love - yours is one of them. I am now in a town house (alone) and really find that it is too big for me. But there are very few trailer parks here in Quebec and only a couple of municipalities up north that have made tiny house developments legal. Anyways, you are an inspiration!
Thanks Cathy. That’s how I felt in my townhouse after the second kid left home. To big and took to long to clean. My friends joke that I can stand in my tiny house kitchen and vacuum the whole house without moving my feet 😂. Not quite but I’ve done it all including the bathroom in under 15 mins LOL.
I've been binging your videos and for all the years I've watched UA-cam, yours is the first channel to which I've ever subscribed ! You are so relatable and informative. I'm curious to know if I was to contact Teacup Tiny Homes to get a home similar to yours, what model would I ask for?
Hi Shanan. Thank you for your kind words ☺️. I named my home Serendipity and they now offer my floor plan on their website under that name. Stay safe 🙏🏼.
Hi Gary, absolutely. I think the key is to build for a cold climate. Making sure your insulation and heating choices are sufficient for where you plan to live. I think it’s also key to have the underneath of the trailer sheathed in and to do a good job of skirting.
I've just found your video's, just having a Sunday afternoon stream of them all. There great. Lots of love - Sharon in England , You certainly have much colder weather than we do xx

Your explanation of the Christmas lighting issue leads me to believe the 3 plugs outside are wired to one circuit. Outside plugs only need to have one plug on the circuit set up with the ground fault if all tied together. This is very common, maybe even code in some areas. When you said everything outside was out, and came back on when you reset the ground fault interrupt on the one plug was the tell tale for my theory. That being the case, the reason for breaker tripping was overload on the circuit. The length of the extension cord, plus the quality, may have led to more resistance, causing more draw than you would expect. Plus the heat tape on the lines would probably be a few amps. (I have never used it, so I don't really know, but anything providing heat draws more power) To check, you could get an electrician to test the circuit with an meter to see if the circuit is dead when it is turned off. One thing you could do is get as short of extension cord as you need, but get a good one rated for cold weather. (This would be bigger in size, which would give more copper in the cord, thus reducing power loss for resistance. The other, is maybe have an electrician put it on a dedicated circuit as it should have been. The red herring in doing that may be only having a 50 amp service. It sounds like the perfect storm scenario. Really cold, Christmas lights and heat tape all at once. That may be why it only has happened once, and may only require turning off the lights outside at night when it is really cold. I have built a couple tiny homes, (no way near what you have, but on used trailer, and off grid) Yours is gorgeous. My god son lives in Stettler, so next time I'm out there I'm going to check out your builder. My wife and I have both retired now, and our house and lot are way too big. We also need a fifth wheel as mobility may be an issue for me in the future. And a second loft would be a great spot for a paint studio for her. I would prefer a 10 wide rather than 8.6.
Hi! I'm an electrician and just wanted to add my two cents. If you aren't overloading the circuit, the easiest fix would be to replace the GFCI with one that has an audible alarm. Leviton brand sells one for around $24 (US dollars) at HomeDepot. If the circuit popped you would most likely be able to hear it from inside your awesome tiny! 🙂
What, you live in Calgary? In city limits? I had no idea they allowed tiny houses in the city! I’m in Edmonton and am thinking of a tiny home. Appreciate the winter update.
@@myBIGtinyhouselife Hi, yes, but probably not the trailer. Luckily I had the opportunity to learn and train different skills. Now is time to combine everything, design and build a tiny house, although not before doing a comprehensive research to customize and address exactly what we want. So we'll be checking your other videoclips. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
When all the pandemic restrictions calm down, if you and your girlfriend are ever in Calgary I’d be happy to give you a tour of my little piece of awesome as my builder says. Good luck.
@@myBIGtinyhouselife Thank you so much for that, we'd love to visit you when ever is the right time. Now been checking another of your vids about the 10 things to consider about building a tiny house. Pretty good,... makes total sense!!!
Hi 👋🏼 I just came across one of your videos on Google. Watched one video, and I had to jump over to UA-cam and subscribed. ❤ Your tiny house is so cute.
Hello watching from Ontario where we also have very cold and snowy winters. I live by Lake Huron, Ontario. I also wish for more Canadian Utuber content. Glad to see you are one. I won't be living in a tiny house anytime soon but I love watching Tiny home videos.
I hear the furnace in my house .. it’s in the basement…and my bedroom is at the other end of my home . I’m so in love with tiny homes …unfortunately Nova Scotia is not a very friendly place .. I would love to live in a tiny home in a tiny home village . You have a beautiful home ! Thanks for sharing…
Hi your house is amazing. Is your tiny house on a regular residential area ? The surrounding doesn't look like a trailer park. I am a single mom, This is always my dream too to own a tiny house
Hi! Thanks for watching. Yes, I’m in a mobile home park located in the city. My latest videos are on my parking situation specifically. They should answer your questions. Good luck on your BIG tiny dream🙏🏼❤️.
So happy to receive your reply! I live in Ontario canada and there are many restrictions on the site where trailers or tiny house can be parked. So lucky you can find a parking spot in the city. Do you mind to tell me which city is your tiny house parked
Thermopane glass would be better for windows...they are isolated this way and it works really well. In Europe, we usually have this and there is no condense on the glass no matter how low the temperature is.
Thank U ! Temporary Tarpy carport Is awesome Attached long tarpy to 3 tall trees ( loose rope) along N. Side of house & tuck long end under car ( prop 4 support w sawhorse.. Lawnchair.. If windy) Keeps snow & wind off car &&&🥁🥁🥁 GREAT NORTH BERM 4 HOUSE 💙 Stay warm ⚘⚘⚘
can you put a car port or some call them car canopies? Basically a tent for your car with a metal roof and 4 feet to park it under so that snow or hail doesn't get it. You can then put those covers on the windows and just pull them off when you get ready to drive. Just asking.. I don't live in a wintery area.
Hi. The park will only allow hard top structures that are bolted/cemented down. This is my last winter here so I’ve decided to not spend the money on it for now.
Glad you got it working again. Always learning. What color is your front door and couch? Lol I ask because I want to paint my door that color and my house the color of your couch. Lol. Thanks for sharing.
What do you find regarding needing a security system on your house? There's not many places to hide should you have an intruder in the night! I hope you never need it but if you do, what would you do? Thanks! P.S. I DO love your house!!!
Well, I have pepper spray and a guard cat so I think I’m good for. Or 😁. But seriously, I may consider that when I move to a more rural location. But honestly I’ve never felt unsafe simply because I can pretty much see my whole house from my bed so o don’t have to wonder what a sound is.
My experience has been (not a tiny home, just medium to big homes) that if the grid electrical supply "wobbles" so it's up & down multiple times within a scant few minutes, any circuit close to its capacity will turn off. I'm in the U.S. so your mileage may vary.
I know what week you're talking about. We only got down to -5F. I have heat tape on my mobile too but anytime the temp is gonna be single digit or lower I always leave water run in a very rapid drip or thin stream. Think this is gonna be one for the record books. Are you allowed to have a mini wood stove? I've got a big one and it's a comfort in case we have an electrical outage. Stay warm, be safe. And I totally get the love/hate thing about winter! 😆
Calgary, isn’t it where the series Heartland is supposed to happen? It seems so beautiful there... I live in Los Angeles and your tiny house seems better isolated than mine. Of course it is not so cold in L.A. but at night, it can be very chilly in winter. I have to think about it for my home...
@@myBIGtinyhouselife I’m happy to have seen a little part of this area through Heartland. I’ve never been there but I have the feeling to have been there thanks to the magic of Internet!
You will get use to the furnace noise. We lived in a town where seven times a night a train went through. We got so we didn’t hear it, but our guests did!
Can I ask what the R rating of your insulation is? Or the kind of insulation you have in your walls? I like designing tiny homes but the only way I can fit the appropriate R rating for Canadian winters into less than a foot of wall space is by utilizing SIPs [exps I think] which is mighty expensive. I have heard though that, because the spaces are so small and easy to heat, you don't actually need the full 38R rating recommended for a full sized residence. I've also been trying to determine what building codes apply, for example in a house all halls and stairs need to be 3 feet wide [other than pull down stairs and access ladders] and that obviously isn't the case with a tiny house, but I wouldn't, theoretically, want to go through the trouble and cost of building something that someone could argue was illegal to own or live in, in theory. I love designing tiny homes but there doesn't seem much point in designing homes that could never actually be priced out and built. Most of the resources I can find aren't geared towards people specifically working with the width permitted by driving limitations and also within the heat requirements of northern Canadian living.
I also live in Calgary and have been exploring tiny home living. There aren't too many videos for tiny homes in Alberta where we have pretty intense winters, so thanks for sharing! And I would be happy to get in touch with you, so feel free to reply or message me somehow :) Cheers!
It’s because I’m up on a hill and we get strong winds. You can get a hard top shelter but the posts need to be cemented in. I guess there had a few get airborne in the past.
Take a look at tinies in Alaska. There are videos by a small home business there (husband/wife) who manufacture and design their own tiny homes for sale that show quite a few good innovations...
Hello I love your tiny house the design is fabulous. Who was your Designer and your builder ? ive wanted to downsize to a tiny house. Only when the time is right. But your correct a good builder is a must..thank you for your most excellant video Keep up the good work..
Hi, excelent digital content. Do you recommend for an immigrant family, 3 adults and 2 babies? In the winter too? What more recommendation do you have for us? Thank you ❣️😊

Hi! That’s great. Are you building it yourself?
@@myBIGtinyhouselife Hi, yes, but probably not the trailer. Luckily I had the opportunity to learn and train different skills. Now is time to combine everything, design and build a tiny house, although not before doing a comprehensive research to customize and address exactly what we want. So we'll be checking your other videoclips. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That’s awesome!
Muito obrigado! As ever, very useful information. Also, I think your house is exceptionally well-built and charming! Boa noite!
Hi 👋🏼 I just came across one of your videos on Google. Watched one video, and I had to jump over to UA-cam and subscribed. ❤ Your tiny house is so cute.
Thanks so much! Welcome 🤗
Hello watching from Ontario where we also have very cold and snowy winters. I live by Lake Huron, Ontario. I also wish for more Canadian Utuber content. Glad to see you are one. I won't be living in a tiny house anytime soon but I love watching Tiny home videos.
Thanks Tanya 😊
I hear the furnace in my house .. it’s in the basement…and my bedroom is at the other end of my home .
I’m so in love with tiny homes …unfortunately Nova Scotia is not a very friendly place .. I would love to live in a tiny home in a tiny home village .
You have a beautiful home ! Thanks for sharing…
Thanks so much 😊
Love your tiny house. Would really love to live in one.
Love your home❣️
Thanks Susan ☺️
Beautiful. Live in Ohio. Even though it gets cold and snows during the winter, we don't get as much as we used to and I miss it,,!
It can be very pretty when it snows for sure.
I’m in Calgary, Alberta.
@@monita1967 Hi. I used to live in Ontario. I miss Canada so much.
Thermopane glass would be better for windows...they are isolated this way and it works really well. In Europe, we usually have this and there is no condense on the glass no matter how low the temperature is.
Interesting thanks for sharing. It's a dream of mine to own a tiny home. Am in Edmonton.
Hi Nordia! Thanks for watching 😊.
You can keep the -22 but you can send us some of that snow here in South Carolina.
Lol love how you think Calgary is cold. What is the difference between a tiny house and a mobile home? To me they seem pretty much the same.
Great Video, I live in the USA and I would love to live in Victoria Canada it's so beautiful there.....
Thanks. BTW, this video was shot when I lived in Calgary, AB. 😊
Your videos are very informative. Questions answered I didn't know to ask.
Hi from Manitoba! Living in a small cottage but looking to downsize even more. Luv your info.
Thanks ☺️
Hi- New to your channel. Very nicely done. Love your little home!
Thanks 😊
Could you have a carport built for your car, or a small garage?
Yes but it’s not worth the cost since I’m only here until next summer
Thank U !
Temporary
Tarpy carport
Is awesome
Attached long tarpy to 3 tall trees ( loose rope) along

Would love your coffee creamer recipe, it sounds divine! Love your videos xox love from Australia
Hi! You bet, the video is on the way 😊. Stay safe 🇨🇦🙏🏼.
Very informative. Love your colour choice.
Thank you!
can you put a car port or some call them car canopies? Basically a tent for your car with a metal roof and 4 feet to park it under so that snow or hail doesn't get it. You can then put those covers on the windows and just pull them off when you get ready to drive. Just asking.. I don't live in a wintery area.
Hi. The park will only allow hard top structures that are bolted/cemented down. This is my last winter here so I’ve decided to not spend the money on it for now.
Makes sense!
I love your home!! Love love love!!
Thanks so much ❤️🙏🏼😊
Glad you got it working again. Always learning.
What color is your front door and couch? Lol I ask because I want to paint my door that color and my house the color of your couch. Lol. Thanks for sharing.
I can't remember the name of the color on the front door. Tomato red?
Nice tiny house. It might not be very easy to make the heat trace plug with it's own dedicated breaker, for peace of mind?
The outside plugs are on their own breaker.
You could get a pop up type shelter for car. At least the snow would not get on it if roof strong enough !
Unfortunately they are not allowed in the park 🤷🏻♀️😊.
But honestly I’ve never felt unsafe simply because I can pretty much see my whole house from my bed so o don’t have to wonder what a sound is.
who built the house and trailer? I may need one too and yours looks great. Thanks
Teacup Tiny Homes in Lethbridge, Alberta.
My experience has been (not a tiny home, just medium to big homes) that if the grid electrical supply "wobbles" so it's up & down multiple times within a scant few minutes, any circuit close to its capacity will turn off. I'm in the U.S. so your mileage may vary.
Oh ok cool cause here in BC it usually -40 for two weeks of the winter in January, so this is great Info 👍 thank you !!!
☺️
OMG where in the world did you find that adorable deer sweater? GAHHH!!!
Old Navy years ago.
Cool vid... Hey, you don't get "inches" of snow in Cal-gree... c'mon! Haha, cheers!
LOL, I should use CM’s but for some reason I always talk about snowfall in inches 🤷🏻♀️😁.
Thanks Wanda. Yes, I’ll be leaving a tap trickling if we have another cold spell like that this winter!
Calgary, isn’t it where the series Heartland is supposed to happen? It seems so beautiful there... I live in Los Angeles and your tiny house seems better isolated than mine. Of course it is not so cold in L.A. but at night, it can be very chilly in winter. I have to think about it for my home...
Yes it’s filmed in and around Calgary. It’s beautiful countryside. 😊🇨🇦
Yep, I don’t even notice it now
Can I ask what the R rating of your insulation is?
If you put cardboard on the windshield it will not frost up and you don’t have to scrape windshield it’s amazing
Your r sounds Irish. Have a great life. Your place is great.
I'm gonna immigrate to Calgary. So wonderful there
Not the weather LOL.
Thank you for sharing,
Thank you for sharing Adelina!
This is a nice one ☺️
I also live in Calgary and have been exploring tiny home living. There aren't too many videos for tiny homes in Alberta where we have pretty intense winters, so thanks for sharing! And I would be happy to get in touch with you, so feel free to reply or message me somehow :)
Cheers!
Hi Katrina. I’m glad you found the video useful. I’m happy to chat. You can contact me at mybigtinyhouselife@yahoo.com.
Yes but unfortunately it’s not allowed in my park.

Awesome information - James from Ontario!
Thanks James 😊
Let's see if I can finish all today hehe. Stay tuned!!
Hello I love your tiny house the design is fabulous.
Who was your Designer and your builder ? ive wanted to downsize to a tiny house.

Keep up the good work..
Thanks Donna! ☺️. I’m the designer and my builder is teacuptinyhomes.com
omg I love your place where do you live with this trying to find a place like this
Hi Debbie. If you watch my video on how I found my parking spot that should answer your questions.
Oh how I envy you. I miss Canada esp its 4 seasons.
I miss snow 🌨 ❄️☃️😭
Where are you living now?
Hi, excelent digital content. Do you recommend for an immigrant family, 3 adults and 2 babies? In the winter too? What more recommendation do you have for us? Thank you ❣️😊
Yep, I don't like winter, it's just more work all around. Victoria is looking good, I can live with more rain😁
Cheers
I can’t wait to move to the island. I had to shovel snow again this morning 😞.
I've seen a tiny home with heated floors, which takes care of pipe freeze as well as cold toes! ;-)
I actually talk about that in this video. ua-cam.com/video/GhVkxq7o2cM/v-deo.html
Hey there if you don’t mind me asking, how much does your electricity and gas cost at the coldest months of the year? I’m thinking of doing the same here in the Edmonton area.
I go over costs here: ua-cam.com/video/qQkOpWWfb3c/v-deo.html
Love it!
😁
This is wrongly labeled. This is not a tiny house. It is a smaller sized house, yes, not tiny at all. Beautiful, absolutely!
I believe the definition of tiny house is anything under 400 sq feet, so this house qualifies.
Yes it does ❤️😊.
