Hey there. The house cost $106,000 CAD, and this was built 1.5 yrs ago. A home of your size in Ontario costs roughly 1 million dollars. That is mostly because of the cost of the land it is on, not the house itself, but it's hard to know because unless your home is on wheels you won't be told by the real estate agent. So I also pay $750/month to lease the land I live on.
think I’m watching things backwards 🤦♀️🤷♀️ saw your most recent video first and have discovered your YT channel and have gone back to your beginning - love seeing the differences you’ve made - it’s always frustrating seeing videos of tiny homes that are magazine perfect - do sense of beginning middle end 🤷♀️🤦♀️ thanx for keeping it real - I’m looking forward to watching all your videos - from someone living tiny in a studio 🙏🇨🇦
I don't know, my builder was very opaque with pricing. I asked him many, MANY times to provide me with a cost comparison of all heating system options (electric, etc) so I could make an informed decision, but he just kept trying to pressure me to go with the heated floors. I eventually just said "fine do it" because he was awful to work with and I just wanted to get it done.
You're home is absolutely beautiful, it's well thought out and planned and I love your taste in design, my dream and my husband's is to own our own tiny home up north in Ontario, we live in Toronto and want out like most.....I don't mean to be too forward but may I ask what the cost of this amazing tiny home was? Thanks so much doing research.
Hey there, thank you so much for this comment! Not too forward at all, I love to share. The house itself (with all the appliances & fixtures) was $106k CAD, including delivery. I did a lot of things myself, like the kitchen backsplash, the ladder to the loft, prime & paint, and all the shelving. Then there are the additional costs to set up the propane & internet. Hooking up water & sewer was free, which is rare if you don't live in a park.
Is there a company that sells these types of houses in the GTA area? A house that already has the heated floor etc (all utilities and amenities already made) ? Kind Regards
I love the tiny houses. However if I could get some info. I live in Ontario. I do not own any land, how and where can a person should be interested in purchasing a tiny house in the community how is the process to own a tiny house in Ontario, Canada? I much appreciated for your answer?
Hey Patricia! Please have a look at the other videos on my channel. I have a lot of videos about finding a tiny house builder, where you can park, land ownership/leasing, etc.
How much would this cost to buy? What is the month to month expense compared to a full size house? No mortgage sounds like a dream. Any other expenses to consider?
I think you just answered your own questions in my other video that you left a comment on. 🙂 I can't compare to a full size house because I've never had one and could never afford one. You might also want to watch the video I did recently with Destiny & Briana where we talk about financing and how much both of our tiny houses cost.
Hey Oliver! The house was $106,000 CAD. I do lease the land. Where I live, the zoning laws require a traditional sized house on the property first before you can put a tiny house on it, so I would have had to buy a house just to park my tiny, which would be kind of pointless, and also I couldn't afford that. I have a bunch of other videos on my channel where I talk about the cost of everything, as well as the leasing. I encourage you to explore my channel for more information!
Hey Katrina! My builder was really awful to work with and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. He told me they were going out of business because they ran out of money, but I can see after taking a break (and screwing over a bunch of customers, not just me) he's back at it again. I don't want to give them any publicity by sharing their name.
How weird is it that the Ontario Building Code requires a certain height for a living room ceiling, but it makes you end up with no space above you while sleeping! Who writes these things anyway? You didn't mention who built your house or how long you've been living in it, or how much you like it. Glad you mentioned in type about the bugs, since any rural place I know in Ontario wouldn't permit me to pass things through a window without letting in a lot of bugs!
Hey Janina, thanks for leaving a comment! I have been living here for 7 months now. I do not mention my builder in public because I had a very bad experience with them (still going through that bad experience) and would not recommend them to anyone. If you want to learn more about the building code, check out a documentary I was featured in recently called Living Tiny (you will see it in my Playlists on my channel). I’m interested in tiny home communities, either joining one or starting one. I would like to know any info you may have gathered on this topic over the years. Anything would be appreciated. Nice home, too!
The house is very well done. I really appreciate that every small detail is taken care of. I have few questions if you can help (1) For such houses do we have to pay rent for the land on which it is built in. (2) can I get contact details/ website of the builder to make such an amazing house. Thank you
Hey Hitesh! Yes I do pay lease for the land that I'm parked on, which for me is $765/month Canadian dollars. Some people are able to find free parking with friends or family land, but I don't know anyone who owns land. 2) My builder was horrible, and he actually went bankrupt & all his employees quit so his business no longer exists. But even if he did I wouldn't recommend them. I have other videos on my channel that you might find helpful on how to find a builder & about the expenses of parking!
I'd probably be sleeping on that futon more than the loft. Canada has weird rules (she did say Ottawa specifically, to be fair.) Why have a legal requirement for ceiling height in the room which, like she pointed out, you're mostly sitting in? I love that kitchen, very well done.
Thank you so much! I did sleep on the futon for the first few months but it was killing my back. the loft kinda sucks not gonna lie, but at least it has a comfortable mattress
How do you open windows with screens in them? Propane technically isn’t off grid. We use one for a remote location in northern Ontario. I wish we had gone with compost instead. Obviously not an option if you’re living within town/city limits. Beautiful setup
They're awning windows. There's a crank handle that you turn to open the window on the outside of the screen. I've never heard anyone say that using propane "technically isn't off grid". Because you have to refill? I don't know how you would survive a winter in Canadian climate off-grid without propane. You can't use a wood stove for a water heater as far as I know... but when I'm referring to off-grid toilet I mean not connected to sewer or septic.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome ok so similar to windows in an RV then, makes sense. I’m in northern Ontario also,I wasn’t judging you. The term “off grid” seems to be used diff now than it was years ago. It’s almost impossible now to be fully off grid. It’s a lot of work to use wood for heat. We spend a good amount of time throughout the year preparing for the winter months. Propane and gas have doubled in the past few years. It makes the extra work that much more worthwhile.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome I don’t. We aren’t off grid. But you can. We use an outdoor wood stove to heat our house. It heats water which runs through pipes under the house. A friend in Emadale ran their entire setup off of the outdoor woodstove, including her hot water.
@@CasaDuroTinyHome they’re called outdoor wood boilers, and there is an exchange plate you can installl to direct some of the heated water to where you need it for showers, laundry etc. Not sure how it could be done with a tiny house(they’re typically built for house over 1000sq f),but I’m sure a compact one could be designed and built.
Hey Tasha! Do you want to build it yourself? You can definitely look at plans & blue prints online for tiny house plans, but my advice to you is to find a place to park it FIRST. Every municipality in Ontario has different minimum size requirements, so a lot of the decisions you will have to make in the build will depend on what is allowed where you will eventually park it. Check out some of the other videos on my channel, I think they will help point you in the right direction!
Hi there Char, thanks for leaving a comment! I will keep the location private for my own safety, but it's in a trailer park. I did not know the owners at all before calling them to ask for availability
@@char3679 It was the only place I could find parking! After pursuing about 6 other locations. I have a whole video about finding a parking spot, but it ain't easy!
A beautiful tiny house! My one axe to grind is the impossibly low roofed sleeping loft. I'd end up sleeping on the sofa most nights. The Ontario building regulation of having 6 ft, 11inch living room ceiling height is just retarded, serving no apparent need? Why? Solutions for this, I hear you ask. Make the bottom of the loft joist height an inch above the tallest TH occupant, & faaaark what building regs. say. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission in this case me thinks. Oh, and 65 x 35 x 2mm steel loft joists also do a great job of saving vertical space.
I completely agree! The tallest person I know is 6'4, so I would have really appreciated an extra 7 inches. I did sleep on the futon the first month or so, but it was really killing my back. Having a proper mattress was worth occasionally bumping my head. 😆 The problem was if the house was not built to code, it would have never left the warehouse where it had to pass inspection before it was delivered to me. And then again if I obtain a building permit (I don't have one right now).
The couch does fold out into a bed. I work in the same room, so I don't like having no separation between the place that I sleep, the place that I work, and also where I "chill" and enjoy leisure time - all within the same 10 sq/ft. I did this for 2 months while I was rebuilding the loft, and it was awful. It's also very annoying to have to fold the bed in and out every single morning. My back was always hurting during those 2 months. I'm very glad to have my loft back! Just having my desk out of view makes a big difference in my mental state to relax and get better sleep.
I also frankly don't have enough "stuff" to merit an entire loft worth of storage. I have nothing to put there! Except maybe food and toilet paper if I wanted to start buying in bulk, which I don't.
Girl you need a Murphy Bed in your living room. You fold them into the wall during the day so they are not in the way and even put your TV on the bottom of them so you see when bed is folded into wall That upstairs loft is going to get ready old plus you may knock yourself out if you sit up too fast.
I am familiar with Murphy beds, my builder actually suggested one, but they cost thousands of dollars. I appreciate everyone's suggestions for things I could have done better, but I'm not rich and I make do with what I can afford
I love that you are in Ontario and able to live in a tiny house. I live in Ontario by lake Huron. Nice home. I am 60 years old so I would not want to be sleeping up in your loft so I would have to come up with something different. Your home is beautiful.

Its there a WAY for you to make your bed going UP & DOWN with chains or cables?"?
Bthen your bed will come down or you will have a better HALF SPACE WITH A FLOATING BED.
Hey Daniel, thanks for your question! Unfortunately the loft is part of the structural framing of the house, so there is no way to remove it now. But that would have been a good idea if my builder would have suggested it
Your tiny house is absolutely beautiful love the backsplash in the kitchen where did you get the refrigerator and rug?
Thank you so much! The fridge brand is called "Epic", you can find it at Home Depot, Lowes or Rona. The rug is from babasouk.ca , they're a Montreal based business sourcing handmade goods from Morocco
amazing home! so many great tips to consider! thank you :)
Thank you so much for the kind words! :)
Very nice and cute tiny house. Thanks for posting it. I was trying to find out but couldn't find details on the cost of this house. Do you have the numbers that you can share?
I have multiple videos where I say the whole cost of the house. I posted an updated tour video, it's the last one on my channel!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! You were awesome in explaining your thought process and mindfulness of the design during the tour ❤
My dream is to live in one of these homes permanently. Love from Hamilton, Ontario ❤

This makes me so happy that I wanna cry …. I am tearing up lmao this was my dream and goal …. To buy property up north a bit I was on my way on buying 20 acres near thunder bay but I got diagnosed with progressive ms so that dream stopped but this is awesome I wanted to make .5 acre lots and give people a place to shower shave and get back to normal and working again. This is amazing
Thank you so much for this comment Will! Definitely living that far north is not my desire, but this campground where I am parked is a nice little community perfectly far enough away from the city but close enough to everything I need. It's also very affordable lease for the spot.
I'm sorry Will, but there is a bug on UA-cam so I cannot see your reply to my reply!!! Super annoying! I can only see the first half of your comment so I can't read the rest after "because of my sickness I went months wit..."
Can you add it as a new comment?
U did a very nice job with your home. Be proud of yourself. I wish you success & happiness.

Very nice! Love the ceiling!
Of all things! hahaa thank you! I actually wish I got a planked wood ceiling, but I could potentially add that in the future!

How much did this cost to build and when did you build it? Our full sized home in Italy cost 200 000 euro 8 years ago. It's 1600 Sq ft

Thank you so much for your kind words! Really appreciate it :)
The infloor heating is not electric? Is on propane?
Technically it's a combination of both, the boiler needs to be plugged into electricity but it uses propane.
How much it costs to install the subfloor propane heating system?
You can check out Arcadia off grid community
Is there a company that sells these types of houses in the GTA area? A house that already has the heated floor etc (all utilities and amenities already made) ? Kind Regards
Hey Alan! I have another video on my channel about finding Tiny House builders. Please go check it out!
Im giving you 3 comments...you are an adorable human being.
Well done FELLA.
Wow very nice beautiful home
So cute! I'd paint the ceiling white tho to make it feel higher. The beams make the ceiling look v low.
Fair enough, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I recently painted it a peachy - pink colour because it makes the room feel warm & cozy.
Does Canada have many Tiny House communities?
How much did it cost to build this home & also, are you renting or did you purchase the land to build on?
@@CasaDuroTinyHome Will do as I'm also in Ontario. This would be really cool.
You have a lovely little home! I'm also in Ontario, and very curious about your parking spot. Can you provide more details on how you get your water?.
Hey Jan, thank you so much! I am in a trailer park, they hooked up the water & hydro for me. It's municipal water, not a well.
Where did you purchase your tiny home from ?!
I was hoping you discuss the cost breakdown
what about critters that can get underneath the tiny home.
It's fully enclosed, there's no way critters could get in. We also have a lot of feral/barn cats in the area so they take care of mice 😉
If you want to learn more about the building code, check out a documentary I was featured in recently called Living Tiny (you will see it in my Playlists on my channel). lovely tiny house
Thank you La Vern! I appreciate it :)
How long is your loft??
I think it's about 10 x 10ft roughly. Enough room for a Queen size bed
How much was the incinerating toilet
Roughly $5000
To compare, the cost of installing a septic tank would have been $20,000
amazing tour 😀 loved design 👍
Thank you so much!
💙 the tiny 🏘️, you could lift your fridge up about 6", add another drawer underneath, storage storage storage in a tiny 🏘️
Hey there, that's a great idea! That being said, I don't need any more storage space in my kitchen as I have plenty of room for everything I need. I have a basket sitting on top of my fridge right now with loose leaf tea :)
@@CasaDuroTinyHome I've watched 100's of tiny home vids, and the new place to store now, other than the obvious, is toe kicks under cupboards, tons of storage, most people donlt know about
Awesome
I’m interested in tiny home communities, either joining one or starting one. I would like to know any info you may have gathered on this topic over the years. Anything would be appreciated. Nice home, too!
Hey there Cris! I have a recent video about finding a place to park a Tiny House where I talk about Tiny Home communities. Please check it out!
What part of Ontario?
Hey Tasha! I'm in Simcoe County. Trying to keep the specifics private for my safety :)
@@rythmjunky5292 How do you use wood for hot water from your shower and taps?
I want to build a Tiny home in Ontario but I don't know where to start . 😕
@@CasaDuroTinyHome great thank you .

Hi there Carol, thanks for your question! I'm about 1 hour north of Toronto in a trailer park
A skylight over that shower would be awesome!
I really wanted a skylight in my loft too! Unfortunately it was too expensive and out of my budget
I like it a Lot😍😍
Ugh obssesed with your cute little home 💕💕
Thank you so much Sandra! Can't wait to have you over again 💕
How tall are you
Hello! I'm 5'8"
Cute house.
Very pretty 👍
Thank you Susanna!
Honestly I'd repurpose the loft. Get a bed that folds out of the couch, sleep downstairs and use the loft for storage
I love your chair
Thank you! It's from Autonomous, called the "Avo Chair". It's super comfortable!
@@CasaDuroTinyHome i found it! thanks..
#Niiiiiiiiice😍👍
Girl you need a Murphy Bed in your living room. You fold them into the wall during the day so they are not in the way and even put your TV on the bottom of them so you see when bed is folded into wall That upstairs loft is going to get ready old plus you may knock yourself out if you sit up too fast.
I am familiar with Murphy beds, my builder actually suggested one, but they cost thousands of dollars. I appreciate everyone's suggestions for things I could have done better, but I'm not rich and I make do with what I can afford
