You were so smart to do as much research as you did. The 1200 sq ft home I purchased in 2018 that came with a quarter acre of property cost me $130k ...I’m in the US 45 miles outside of New York City...no parking spot needed... but I do pay taxes which probably coincides with that give or take,,, my utilities aren’t any more than yours...I’m totally flabbergasted that it cost that much for a tiny house...my thoughts before watching this was a tiny house would be much less.. thanks for the insight! in any case love your Tiny Home

Calgary really needs to look at changing regulations to allow more tiny houses, it is unfortunate they are so behind the times. I think there are many people that this kind of living appeals to, but zoning is such an issue. I read it is pretty much the same as when it was 'revised' in the 1980's...

Thank you for being so forthcoming with your expenses. It is extremely helpful to have some idea of all the costs associated with tiny house living - even though I am only just starting to consider it. Also, it's great to hear that you don't use your dryer that much. I'm fortunate to live in the country and I use a clothesline all the time, even though I do have an electric dryer (currently broken, but very low priority to fix). I love the task of hanging out laundry, and the way the clothes smell and feel when dry. In winter, if it is not good weather outside, I have two clotheslines across the rafters in my basement, and I just hang my clothes there. They are typically dry in a day. I really like the idea of being environmentally responsible and saving the cost of electric by useing clotheslines. Thanks so much for your videos, they are very inspiring and also calming for me. You are good company.
Just found your channel. Love your tiny house and your channel, the info you share is so helpful. I am in Ontario, Toronto and I might start looking at a tiny house soon. It's not exactly cheap to live tiny...guess the best will be to buy land somewhere, maybe. Thanks again for sharing all these important details with us.
Thank you for being so eager to be so helpful and informative. I'm thinking of going tiny and just finished watching the tour you gave of your home.....which itself was excellent. The design was great and the most practical that I have ever seen, and I've been watching and learning about tinys for 3 years now. I presently live in my own home in New Jersey, USA. Thanks again. Just subscribed to your channel :)
Thank you so much, this is very helpful in my long term planning. My reaction to the costs :) the build cost seems reasonable but the monthly costs caught me by surprise because I hadn’t thought of all those things so good to take that in to consideration. Hope you’re doing with all this Virus stuff going on.
Hi! Yes, I’m nice and snug working from home. My company is encouraging anyone who can to do that. I am REALLY glad that I build in a “home office” into my build🙏🏼. I hope you stay safe as well !
Your home is beautiful. You have an incredible little house that is very well thought out. .Your tips on downsizing are very helpful. Thank you for sharing your life.
Thank you for letting us in on the cost … still at your age with a job and as a bonus you work from home saving gas $$ … Knowing what you want and doing it is smart … you have your retirement home … no worries about retirement as you have decided and solved that major question! Congratulations 🎉🎊 🌈🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Hi I just watched your tiny house tour this is a beautiful home you made for yourself love. New subscriber. Question did you ever consider solar panels as a option. I'm in love with the kitchen and the loft space. I pray you find a cheaper parking space.
Hi and welcome! ❤️. I’ll definitely consider solar in the future if I need to. Right now I’m parked in the city and hooked up to utilities so I decided to not spend on a system until I need to.
Talk with Tobi from Vancouver Island Tiny Homes (Salt Spring, I think, or Jake and Keva at Tiny Nest in Naniamo (Lantzville). (Tiny Nest) youtube page. Either could help you a lot in finding areas to park.
The actual usage of your gas and electricity compared to the bill totals was amazing. Quite the differences. I was surprised to hear what your lot is costing, but I am unfamiliar with Canadian real estate. Your house is really lovely.
Really helpful that you share your expenses and wise decisions you made. The quality of natural light, insulation, thoughtful design decisions and proactively considering climate and fresh air must haves - Bravo! Lovely thoughtful and informative. Thank you.
Great nuts and bolts video! Like many others, I have been following the tiny movement for years. There are many that show how to build on a budget, but not everybody has carpentry skills and friends with land. There are benefits to a tiny lifestyle that can't be measured in money.😊
I am so happy to find a fellow Calgarian here. My wife and I are looking at tiny houses. Where about in Calgary do they allowed tiny houses? Will be following you when you go off grid. Subscribed👍
I am so happy I found your channel! I live in Edmonton AB, and it is so difficult to find people who have built tiny homes (specifically on wheels) in this area! Living in Canada we have so many more things to consider when building, and I rarely hear people talk about the moisture/air quality concern, which can be a huge issue for us here! I am hoping to start my build sometime next year, and your channel is filled with so much valuable information for building here. Edmonton has legalized tiny house dwellings on foundations now, and I am waiting patiently for tiny houses on wheels to be legalized as well, hopefully soon! I did wanna ask a question as well, and I'm sorry if you've answered this already, but how are you finding your heating set up? would you make any changes or has it been working great for you through the winter months? Your videos are so well made and relaxing to watch, you have a lifetime subscriber in me! :D
Thanks Sam! I’m so glad you are finding it useful. My furnace is a RV size forced air. Going into my second winter and it’s worked great so far even in the coldest months. I think a forced air furnace also helps to keep moisture down.
@@myBIGtinyhouselife that's awesome! I've been looking at the same air exchange/HRV system you have as well (I think it's the same), great to see a fellow cold climate Canadian who's used it and finds it works well! Thanks so much for the quick response, I've definitely fallen down the UA-cam rabbit hole and have been catching up on your videos, I finally feel like I'm getting relevant information to get me started on my build! (The Aussie and New Zealand tiny homes are gorgeous, but would not last two months here 😅) Thanks again!
I remember those ridiculously high fees that the gas and hydro companies charged in Calgary. When I moved to BC I couldn't believe how much cheaper my hydro bills were.
Very interesting! Will have research what the expenses would be in the states. Googled Tiny houses and was very surprised there are builders locally in my area! One even had a workshop! Hmmm.....💕
I live in Southern California and to have electricity through the municipality or here it is Pacific Gas and Electric Company it is probably half of what you are charged to just have it turned on in it on your property but on the other hand what they charge for the electric used here is unbelievable so the bill would probably be about the same for me here if I had what you have there just differently categorized you've done well
Thank you so much for this video. I just came across this video and I am so glad I did. I am in the process of selling my house and renting a condo for two years. We have been thinking about what we want to do after that. Tiny house living is an option but we are also thinking about building a tiny house out of shipping containers. Did you looking into using containers? I’m going to look at your previous videos to see your tiny house.
I would be interested in a compare and contrast of property values and/or depreciation over time between real estate and tiny houses. Which is the better investment? Thank you for your videos. They are very well done, informative, and comfortable like having a relaxed conversation with a friend.
Wow! You paid almost as much as I paid for my 3 bdr house. I'm in NE Minnesota so I know about the cold weather. Now I really want a tiny house with lil' bills like yours. My highest bill was over $400 for electric, bcuz my heat is electric. (Came with my house). The cheapest way to go here. Wood stove would be the cheapest but my insurance would double. And I'm already paying too much for that. Buying a house wasn't in my plans n now I know why. It bites. Everything is very expensive. You have it made.
How much did you condo cost to buy vs the cost of your tiny house? I'm just interested to learn what the advantages are for you? I assume your condo was bigger and in general I would assume that resell values are better for condos than for tiny homes.
wow, the city seriously rips you off with fees. if they allowed you solar it would be more cost-effective, same for getting your own propane. it would be somewhere around $150+ monthly savings, a minimum of $1700 yearly. the solar would pay for itself in 14 to18 months. Solar panels now have a life expectancy between 20 and 30 years.
When you rent a spot at an RV park, do they make you do a 12 month lease agreement like an apartment complex, or is it just month to month and you are not tied down with a lease?
Hi. Maybe but really it’s the cost of being connected to the grid that makes up the big part of the bill and that wouldn’t change because I’m required to be connected in order to park where I am. When I move to Vancouver Island or the interior of BC I’ll be more rural and plan to be on solar then.
But couldn’t your solar feed the grid and reduce your electrical bill when being attached to the grid. Essentially making you a electric hub for the grid. You are attached to the grid and feeding it. Then you pay only for what you use and get paid for the overage that’s was fed into the grid.
Well done. I would still love the gooseneck, build a garage under it and hopefully it would be in a permanent place, I would not need a trailer? 12×37 is perfect size as Lord have mercy I was married for 37 year's, kid's and grandkids, my boxes are in the garage, certainly working on downsizing, your cost is higher up there I believe? Your design is perfect!!! Thank you ❤Edit...300-400 here for a spot in a park, knowing someone with some land and a big heart, I freeze at 70 lol. A wood stove would make a huge difference. That's still a good price for what you have and where you are!!! I have 2 pup's and a kitty, this would be amazing!!!
Mint Tiny Homes is telling me that going wider than 8.5ft (RV certification) means it will be classified as a Park model and that legally in Canada that size cannot include a loft. Have you heard this or had any problems? How did you decide on your size, legally?
Hi Faith. I registered mine as a park model simply because many provinces won’t allow year round living in a RV. As for a loft that wasn’t a problem for me at all. However, my loft isn’t my bedroom. I describe it as a storage space so that may be why it’s not been a problem do me. I’m not an expert. I can only speak from my experience. Good luck! ☺️🙏🏼
the house is magnifique !!! i would like to know better the painting behind you, is absolutely gorgeous !!! who paint it ? can you make a shot of the painting, please ?
Your costs are very reasonable. Maybe being Canadian, maybe being a Yukoner those costs make sense. I have been thinking of going tiny for awhile now so thank you for all of your insight. Finding a place to park seems the most challenging aspect of this lifestyle. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Hi! Yes, it’s important for my US and international viewers to remember that’s are Canadian dollars. That’s exciting that you are considering going tiny too😃.
@@myBIGtinyhouselife It is exciting and watching your videos makes it real. I'm retired and looking for change. I have been looking at Minimaliste Tiny Homes out of Quebec but am going to look at the Teacup Tiny Homes. It's an adventure. So glad I found your UA-cam videos. I'm afraid I want to be a copy cat as you have the best kitchen with your stove in the peninsula. You are a genius. Thanks again.
I’m so excited to hear about Victoria,BC allowing tiny houses. That is where I’m planning on moving to. Do you have any recommendations on what to read up on? Have you found anymore information in your research?
How are you enjoying Black Creek living? Any later issues after you moved? Do they have other spaces available? How much has it grown? I mean the community there? It seems rather perfect for me and my family returning to Canada in 2024. I have contacted TeaCup for a build similar to yours with a few changes.@@myBIGtinyhouselife
Hello Madeline, I moved into my home July 2019. I’m going to be doing a video review of my first year on my anniversary. I’ve lived every day that I’ve been lucky enough to be here 🙏🏼☺️.
Thank you for your honesty. It's a little expensive... Your house seem very well insulated, may I asked you what is the " R " factor please? I live in the cold too . Sad that you have to pay for fees that you dont really use... Wish we had here the same taxes as you, as we pay a lot here . I know some people living in BC and pay the exact same amount as you to park on a private lot . Of course, knowing someone and park it for free or just little would be amazing, but same time, you are probably safer having others around you versus off grid out of no where . The land that I bought had free hold and no restrictions and that permit me to do whatever I want , it was a must . When I told you about reasons I decide ( for now ) not to move on Vancouver island, was the bylaws and strata fees, I never wanted to pay someone else for a piece of land that I own , doesnt makes sense to me. Maybe you can find a little piece of land near by and save on those monthly fees once its pay , just a suggestion. Could help you reduce some fees . Thank you for sharing and as you said , great house quality for the price you paid . Please let me know the " R " factor of insulation. Thank you
The cost was just under $148k including the oversized custom built trailer and appliances. Note that this is in Canadian ua-cam.com/video/qQkOpWWfb3c/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/qQkOpWWfb3c/v-deo.html
Thank you once again to peel the numbers about the cost of living. Maybe cause of this actual craziness with covid and people have the time to think more about essential things and big long questions about existing too . That's my case since I aim to downsize...but why should I downsize after all? As all know surely , theres a world in this world. The rich and the rest . I'm in the rest . Some friends were looking at me strangely when about 15 years ago, I told them that all of us should make at least 500 dollars a day...as you did Adelia or Adelina , sorry , if I mistake your name, sound was low on the video , I love playing with maths and calculs. Here in Quebec and I'm sure it's the same for you in Jasper or Whistler, simply a little escapade of 1 or 2 nights and you spent 1000 already . They are restaurants and hotels that I will never go and its seem to be strictly for the very few . Just going to see an hockey game and boum , another 700 !!! It goes very fast. I read some comments on here and I find them very logical and interesting and I adore to hear about others experiences and we are also all different, but same way , not so much different . For a long time I am happy with little , with out sacrificing my comfort , a short of " simplicité volontaire " type of life . It's TRUE, that we are privileged to live in Canada ,but let's not forget that it ain't cheap either, we all still need a bit of money. I am close to retiring and each year and year after year, I am paying more than 50 K in income taxes ...and thank God I dont go to hospital very often. But that money go for services etc... Downsizing for me equal to stop or unplug from " the system " and relax and breathe for the rest of my little life. From an house on Montreal island and nearly 7000 dollars in taxes , no thank you, not anymore for me , I did my part . Downsizing would mean lower everything. I am still shopping for alternatives system for hydro power etc... Listening to your videos and reading others , help me in many aspects and convince me that I am going in the right direction. Living simply do not mean that we are broke and mean and cheap , just a smarter way to live and to enjoy more the moment with out any money issues and stress and more happy moments in the outdoors. Sorry for my long message and I tried to simplify it to the max as so many other things to say . Continue your great journey and great spirit !
Hi Pierre, I agree. It was a conscious decision to downsize and simplify my life. Not because I don’t like ‘things’ but because experiences are my priority and how I choose to spend my money. Take care. Adelina
YUP they sold us a bill of goods on that whole deregulation thing. Living ain't cheap... and apparently neither is dieing unless you donate yourself to science, lol. Then I will just be a charitable donation line item on my last tax return. Thank you for sharing!
I’ll hire the same professional mover that brought her here. He was great. I have a little car and even if I had a truck I don’t have the skills. Also, a professional has insurance during the move. Though I also made sure to have the house insured for the move with my insurer.
I have a small personal loan not a mortgage. I just filmed a chat about how I paid for my house. I’m on holiday camping this week so that won’t be up till the weekend.

tiny homes......yet, anyway. Originally, was thinking of the northwest US....but would love to at least visit BC. Thanks again. Just subscribed to your channel :)
Awesome, thank you Susan. Good luck ☺️
Love your style of presenting your videos, and your content is so FULL of information. Well done and very appreciated!
Thanks so much!
I asked the question in another video for the financial particulars and, obviously, I found it. Thank you very much for the info.
Thanks for being so transparent with your viewers/subscribers. I really appreciate the information.
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you so much, this is very helpful in my long term planning. My reaction to the costs :) the build cost seems reasonable but the monthly costs caught me by surprise because I hadn’t thought of all those things so good to take that in to consideration.
Hope you’re doing with all this Virus stuff going on.
Hi! Yes, I’m nice and snug working from home. My company is encouraging anyone who can to do that. I am REALLY glad that I build in a “home office” into my build🙏🏼. I hope you stay safe as well !
Thanks for the info! Just looking into building a tiny house and found your info helpful!
Hi Karen! Im so glad that you found it helpful 🙏🏼🤗 !
Your home is GORGEOUS!!! You thought of EVERYTHING when building your home! Love Love Love 💕!!!
Awww! Thanks!😊🙏🏼
Thanks for the informative breakdown of your costs, you answered all my questions. ✌️💕🇨🇦
Would you mind saying what the walls are made of? They are beautiful. Thank you...
Thanks. Pine tongue and groove.
Your home is beautiful. You have an incredible little house that is very well thought out. .Your tips on downsizing are very helpful. Thank you for sharing your life.
You're welcome. ☺️
Where do you plan to go after a year or so? How are the cost of moving and driving
I think you did well… quality makes a difference in the long game!
Love your home it’s gorgeous. I live in Niagara Falls Ont. Permits are not granted. This frustrates me to no end. You are lucky. Enjoy.
Thank you so much!
And also please do a video about Victoria when you get back, that would be an awesome place to live.
Yes, I would love to hear what you find as well! I am considering moving to the island
@@ktkrogstad I have been told that there are a lot of homeless squatters in Victoria now. They like the weather so be aware and chose carefully
Can we see more of your Tiny House? Your bedroom looks very nice & comfy and I'm sure your tiny house looks awesome.
I have a full tour video on my channel ☺️.
Thank you for letting us in on the cost … still at your age with a job and as a bonus you work from home saving gas $$ …
Knowing what you want and doing it is smart … you have your retirement home … no worries about retirement as you have decided and solved that major question!
Congratulations 🎉🎊
🌈🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
That's how I look at it 😊.
Wow the monthly costs are VERY HIGH ! the tiny house price I find it pretty ok...it's a great tiny house
@@myBIGtinyhouselife yes your right maybe in the future. Thanks for replying back can't wait to watch more content. God bless
Yes, that’s the price you pay to be in a major Canadian city (literally) 😜😊
Really helpful that you share your expenses and wise decisions you made. The quality of natural light, insulation, thoughtful design decisions and proactively considering climate and fresh air must haves - Bravo! Lovely thoughtful and informative. Thank you.
Thanks 😊
Great nuts and bolts video! Like many others, I have been following the tiny movement for years. There are many that show how to build on a budget, but not everybody has carpentry skills and friends with land. There are benefits to a tiny lifestyle that can't be measured in money.😊
I am so happy to find a fellow Calgarian here. My wife and I are looking at tiny houses. Where about in Calgary do they allowed tiny houses?
Will be following you when you go off grid. Subscribed👍
Thanks! I’m in a trailer park here in Calgary.
(The Aussie and New Zealand tiny homes are gorgeous, but would not last two months here 😅)
Thanks again!
Hmmm.....💕
I’ve visited Victoria twice. A lovely space.
You are so welcome! I love the container home movement but I wanted mine to be on a trailer for easy of movement so I went with that instead.
Thank you for sharing. Not bad.❤️ you have everything!
You are so sensible.
wow, the city seriously rips you off with fees. if they allowed you solar it would be more cost-effective, same for getting your own propane. it would be somewhere around $150+ monthly savings, a minimum of $1700 yearly. the solar would pay for itself in 14 to18 months. Solar panels now have a life expectancy between 20 and 30 years.
Thanks you got all the details here. Ignore my request from your other vid. Thank youi thank you!!! Very valuable info.
Lovely house and your videos are very relaxing to watch.
Thanks 😊
When you rent a spot at an RV park, do they make you do a 12 month lease agreement like an apartment complex, or is it just month to month and you are not tied down with a lease?
1 year lease then month to month after that.
I hate delivery charges, used to argue it in British Columbia too.
Not much to say but thanks for the detailed info and also I really like your bedding.
I appreciate that!
Would it make a difference if you add solar panels and become a electric hub?
True but the delivery charges and fees stay the same no matter what. My actual usage is pretty minimal, especially in the summer.
Dont think there is enough sunlight in Calgary to be cost effective.
Perfect you are so organized
Thank you so much!! This does help lots!!💜
Good luck! ☺️🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing so much information.
I am sorry if you already mentioned this....but what do you pay for water? Or is it included in the monthly rent for the mobile home park?
Water is included.
the house is magnifique !!!
i would like to know better the painting behind you, is absolutely gorgeous !!!
who paint it ? can you make a shot of the painting, please ?

That’s so nice of you to say 🤗. I love Minimaliste as well. I’d love to see your home when you build. Because I know you will! 😎
I’m so excited to hear about Victoria,BC allowing tiny houses. That is where I’m planning on moving to. Do you have any recommendations on what to read up on? Have you found anymore information in your research?
Hi! This is a good place to start.www.tinyhomealliance.ca/
Good lock ☺️🙏🏼.
Thank you! very useful info. Was this in Calgary cost for a tiny house?
Yes, Calgary. 😊
Hi Adelina... Can you send me your trailer builder link? They are in Canada, right?
How long have you lived In your tiny beautiful tiny home ?
Thank you
R24 in the walls and R35 in floor and ceiling.

It is awesome! Money isnt nothing but a thing! If you could afford go get ti done😍 its your home, plywood I wouldve done too! Great job
Love your videos. Very informative indeed.
How much is your gas and electric
Hi there. I just came across your page. What currency are your costs- USdollar or Canadian?
And what year did you build?
CAD and I built in 2019.
where did you get your sheets?? soo pretty 😍
Hi. I don’t remember 🤷🏻♀️😊.
Thanks for the info very informative.
Glad it was helpful Brigette!
Love your tiny home, what do you do for a living? If I can ask, thanks.
Hi. I’m new here! Please, could you say how much you pay for serendipity? And who made for you? Please!!!!
I’’ in love for your channel. Congrats!
The cost was just under $148k including the oversized custom built trailer and appliances. Note that this is in Canadian ua-cam.com/video/qQkOpWWfb3c/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/qQkOpWWfb3c/v-deo.html
@@myBIGtinyhouselife thank you! I saw the video, but i don’t understand when you speak about the numbers, I’m sorry.
Tks again! 🙏🏻❤️
you are fascinating good luck in your endeavors
Do you have air conditioning or is it allowed in canada
Thank you - really interesting x
Interesting video
Do you know anyone in the Calgary area (or Alberta) who is off grid? I'm curious if that would work in our climate at all
Sorry, I don’t.
@@myBIGtinyhouselife Don't be sorry!! Keep posting things about living in a tiny house in Alberta though! :)
Sheesh - moving your tiny house to Vancouver Island surely won't be a tiny cost. Do you know how much it will be to move it via the ferry?
Nope, not yet.
Car plugged in what kind of car
You might consider moving to Vancouver Island. Persuade your people to follow you here. Much cheaper. More beautiful.
Take care. Adelina

Thank you Adelina and I'm sure it was a thoughtful decision 💡
May I be so bold to ask what pendant you have around your neck?
It’s a peace symbol
YUP they sold us a bill of goods on that whole deregulation thing. Living ain't cheap... and apparently neither is dieing unless you donate yourself to science, lol. Then I will just be a charitable donation line item on my last tax return. Thank you for sharing!
Hmmm, I have a small 4 room farm house, in the US, on 5 acers of land, with 2 large new out buildings and paid 50 thousand less than your total cost.
Primitive, Where in the US?
Canada is very expensive, very!!!
Will you move it yourself or do you hire someone to move it?
I’ll hire the same professional mover that brought her here. He was great. I have a little car and even if I had a truck I don’t have the skills. Also, a professional has insurance during the move. Though I also made sure to have the house insured for the move with my insurer.
Makes sense 😊
The prices are in CAD?
Yes. I’m in Canada.
Did u have mortgage loan ?
I have a small personal loan not a mortgage. I just filmed a chat about how I paid for my house. I’m on holiday camping this week so that won’t be up till the weekend.
Loving your videos, disappointed this one is not captioned (I’m deaf).
Hi Jo. I'm so sorry. YT normally automatically adds CC if you choose the language. I"m not sure why this one didn't and I don't know how to fix the problem. I want my videos to be as accessible as possible and I really apologize for this one not being 😔.
What is a goose neck
Have a friend in BC paying $9,000 a year for year round RV
Always wondered this but never heard anyone mention, how do they measure how much gas/electricity you use? Do they hook up a smart meter to your tiny house??
I’m on city services with city meters.
Cost of tiny house build... 😳🤯 Then cost of monthly expenses in a trailer park... 😳🤯
Which is why most of my tiny house friends own land.
Trailer park "condo fees" are the price of cheap rent or a mortgage. They are so high in Alberta.
I wasn’t expecting that much maybe 105k
It’s longer and wider with lots of windows and that’s Canadian dollars.
