Glad to hear about your wood shed. With the first shots in the video, I was worried when I saw that pile of wood just under the tree. As a kid at our off grid in MN, my cousins and I had to stack the wood after splitting. Enough to last the winter weekends. Big big job getting your wood ready. Glad your caring for it.
Yes, the firewood shed is definitely a big bonus, last year all my firewood was under a tree and four feet of snow. This set up is much better! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
My old Cape Cod house was not as warm as your cabin. It was much larger, the ceilings were 9 feet high. When the wind blew the window curtains moved. I moved in in October. I had two woodstoves ,but no wood. No water,no bath, the wiring chewed by squirrels or mice. I slept on a cot, in a sleeping bag, near the big stove in the backroom. One night a bucket of water near the bed froze pretty solid. I slept like a log and didnt get up at night to fill the stove. The back wall of that room was plastered and we tore it out to insulate it. The sheething boards on the studs were white washed, so people had lived in that unfinished house before it was plastered. It might have been built as early as 1765.The original deed to the land was 1760.I can relate to living in a wooden box , because that is what that old house was. Smaller is better sometimes. My cabin is 16x12 with an 8x10 front porch. it is insulated and I built it during the Covid shutdown in 2020. Your cabin is nice. Close the door!
That sounds like quite the house you were living in! Sounds like it was a lot of work to maintain heat in it. I have plans to insulate the tiny cabin this spring to help out with heat retention. It is an ongoing project for sure! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
@@TheBushkateer Well it was a fixer upper , do it yourself and wing it house. it got fixed. I made $$ and went on from there. It was also haunted. The family of 13! that had lived there used a spring across the road for water. The big dug well in the field went dry in the summer. Groundwater,I guess. I had a well drilled and that night I woke up and hovering over me was the upper torso of a n old guy with white hair,a big moustache ,holding a cup in a white night shirt like they used to wear. He was there a while. I told a guy down the road about it next day. He wanted to know what the guy looked like etc. He had lived in that area a long time and told me it sounded like Old Man Stover that lived there when he was a kid. Some other weird stuff happened in that place. Nothing bad, just weird stuff. It was quite the adventure in 1984. even a piece of plastic sheeting across the ceiling will help keep heat in a place.Try it sometime.
Just came across your channel. Love it! I grew up in Spokane, WA and spent considerable time in BC. Mostly fishing in the Okanogan area. Some great trout in there. But I absolutely loved spending time with my dad up there. We journeyed as far north as Jasper at times, but tended to stay near the border back in the 50’s 60’s and 70’s. Great Vid. Upgrade the wood heater to a good glass front wood stove. Love the campfire, but in off-summer love cabin life. Especially with storms or snow. Keep up the good work.
In case you aren't aware, onions DO NOT spoil. Onions have powerful antimicrobial properties. Garlic is the same. Your tripod is top notch. Love the winch.
Thank you for sharing your video. I really like the cabin that you built and the firewood shed. Everything looks good and you cooked some good food this time I’ve never had roasted lamb, so it makes me hungry for one. Thanks again you take care now.

@@TheBushkateer We live in North Eastern New Mexico now. Prior to this we lived in Montana. The last winter we lived there we got snowed in 4 times. Snow got to 5 ft deep. -28. @@glennda1939 Oh ya, Montana does get a lot of snow. The firewood shed will hold about 3 cords of wood, so plenty for the tiny cabin for the cold season. Will have to see how much wood I go through this winter.
I love these kind of videos, but I do get annoyed with the videos where they chop wood, do all of the chores, errands, etc. in the middle of a snowstorm, it looks sometimes a miserable experience to spend time at a cabin. You hit the nail on the head, work hard in the summer, and just sit back and relax. I loved this video!

Wonderful video !! It relaxed me as well, totally. I just found you and your video and will be back to watch more of you and great videos. Thank you for sharing this.
The woodshed is almost as important as the camp itself. You’ll really appreciate it this winter when you don’t have to dig down through the snow to find a pile under a tarp that’s half blown off and the wood is damp or it’s the wrong pile. It was a lot of work to build but will save you so much work in the long run. Just looking at the woodstove in the last couple of videos- is there enough room to put some fire bricks in to help hold the thermal mass at night?
Thanks Peewee.31! You are correct about the firewood shed, the work was worth it the day I started to build it! I really did enjoy building it even in the heat and the bugs (bugs are not my favorite!) and now it is up I just have to keep it full from year to year! I do have fire bricks in the heater already, but I am thinking of getting some buckets of rocks to put around the back of the heater to collect and hold heat, the space back there is not being used anyway so that would give that space some usefulness. Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
That is a very nice cabin, that is about the size of cabin that I used to share with my uncle, VERY small for only two people, but they can get pretty cold in the winter. Good luck and thanks for sharing.😊

OK,,, The more I look at this,, The more I think this is my favorite cabin. This is what I wanted on my 10 acres in Luzerne, Michigan. Arguing with my contractor and wifie about tax, insurance etc. and losing the argument, I ultimately lost the cabin due to finances. This one is way cooler than the 3 bedroom one with 2 up loft one with a shower and microwave etc. Waaaay Cooler! eh ?
I lost the argument with my wife about our house and property development. I wanted to build a cabin/small house to start with and build bigger as money comes available, but she wanted to go big right away. We'll be in debt for the rest of our lives, but she'll be happy. I hope.
Thanks John, your plans sounded pretty cool as well! It is unfortunate it didn't pan out for you the way you wanted. I am glad you can join me via the internet with my cabin! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
I worked at a machine shop and kept 2 layer cardboard which has a R rating of 27. Most homes have R 12 rating. Two or 3 layer cardboard is a cheap alternative to fiberglass insulation.
@@TheBushkateer you don't even need to use nails stick it to the wall with glue, but you need to seal those gaps in the walls. I would use 3 day blue painters tape on the outside sealing with black silicone on the inside then when you remove the tape it will be smooth outside.
Nossa que frio , não sei o que é sentir esse frio , moro no Brasil, Rio de Janeiro 40 graus ou mais no verão, e não temos frio no inverno . Gosto de ver a neve .
Yes it is very cold. I do not imagine you would every feel that cold living in Brazil! It would definitely be a shock to what you are used to and would probably take a lot of getting used to. I know a lot of people here in Canada take trips south to escape the cold temperature in January and February. Glad you could join me from a tropical place! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!

We had enjoyed more if your camera was zoomed out inside your cozy cabin, even when you were making coffee… to enjoy the surrounding, no-matter how it looked.
Wonder if you could put some CELOTEX foam board 1/2” 4’x8’ cut pieces for the walls and Ceiling. I know it used to be $10-$15 bucks a sheet but things are up. Nice Cabin 😊,, eh ?
Thanks John! You are probably correct with the foam board on the walls. I think it would work very well. I may do that in the spring, I would have to pull everything out of the cabin and redo the walls, covering them with more wood boards or something to cover the foam board keeping the atmosphere of the inside the cabin rustic. Thanks for the input!

A great cabin. I just got out to my trappers cabin on the weekend with about the same amount of snow but had to deal with blowdown. Just posted a video on my channel

That's just a wood box heater it's the most inexpensive basic heater out there - they have been made sense the 1700s or so - most today are made in China but there far better than the American and Canadian box heaters from when they were made over here - you can often pick up those Chinese heaters used at a fair price -. Most will start with those heaters and up grade to an air tight wood heater because the air supply can be controlled were it will burn through the night - I prefer those box heaters because I can burn any thing in them that burns -
What is porridge made from? Is it a specific thing like oatmeal? I've heard of porridge all my life, but never have I heard anyone say what it's made with. Thanks.
@@TheBushkateer My husband looked it up and saw that porridge might be oatmeal and other types of grains, but is interchangeable with oats. I think of the nursery rhyme--"Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old." I'm thinking as much as you say you like it, there's no way porridge would last that long. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to answer. Mike looked up peas porridge and it turns out that it is split pea soup.

You are a man after my own heart. An east coast Canadian here.
Thanks Tractor Action & Review!
I just found your channel. Greetings from BC, where we are back to rain again tonight.
Thank you Kelley! Am I correct to assume you live near the coast with all the rain?
@@TheBushkateer I'm not exactly by the coast. I live in the Fraser Valley, about 100 kms east of Vancouver.
I absolutely love your place, cool
Thanks Fred! It is a great place to go and relax!

Lovin' this!! I'm in!! New Sub!!!
Thanks for the sub and commenting!
I worked at a machine shop and kept 2 layer cardboard which has a R rating of 27. Most homes have R 12 rating. Two or 3 layer cardboard is a cheap alternative to fiberglass insulation.
That's an excellent idea! And there is cardboard everywhere a guy can use.
Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
great video i subscribed, thank you for sharing
Thanks Greory! I am glad you enjoy the channel! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!

That sound like quite the adventure Steve! Colorado is very scenic and some nice country there! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
Great to see the snow arrived early. Great video but have too say you a good kick up the butt for forgetting the mint sauce. That lamb looked gorgeous. Kindest regards from Northern Ireland 😉
Oh I kick myself in the butt for forgetting the mint sauce, it is just not the same without it! Thanks for tuning in and commenting from Ireland!

"Not supposed to get cold tonight..minus ten" lol
At that time of year, minus ten is not cold compared to what it could be. lol Thanks for tuning in and commenting!

I like those boots, you have the link for them by chance?
Hi Void, try this link out for those boots. Link: amzn.to/3EmmTqz
I really like your videos. Please don't take this the wrong way. I how you don't because my review of your channel is 5 out of 5 stars. So, with that being said, you deserve way more subscribers.
Thank you Christy! I appreciate your support of the channel! With time the channel will grow I am sure, I just have to be patient and work hard at making the best content I can. I do enjoy this process though, growing the channel and my cabin! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
We had enjoyed more if your camera was zoomed out inside your cozy cabin, even when you were making coffee… to enjoy the surrounding, no-matter how it looked.
Thanks for the input!
So far can't see how this is bad . Nice stack of wood
Thank you Tanya! Having all that wood for both the inside of the cabin and the firepit outside is a good feeling! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
👍👍👍
Wonder if you could put some CELOTEX foam board 1/2” 4’x8’ cut pieces for the walls and Ceiling. I know it used to be $10-$15 bucks a sheet but things are up. Nice Cabin 😊,, eh ?
Thanks John! You are probably correct with the foam board on the walls. I think it would work very well. I may do that in the spring, I would have to pull everything out of the cabin and redo the walls, covering them with more wood boards or something to cover the foam board keeping the atmosphere of the inside the cabin rustic. Thanks for the input!
New subscriber to your adventure. Noticed a black setter in an old video. What is his name and do you only bring him in warm weather ? Be good to see more of him in front of the fire. Cheers from Gold Coast Australia.
Thanks Chris! That is Connor, he is an English Black Lab. I do bring him out from time to time in the warmer weather, he is not a fan of being out there when its cold. Hope all is well in Australia! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
Just found your channel. I couldn’t pinpoint your accent thought it was upper Midwest/Minnesota until I looked at your info on your channel and realized it was Canadian.Eh?
Yes, in Alberta, but originally from B.C..
I love you so much
Thank you Daphne!
What state is this? I hear a Minnesota/ Yooper'ish accent in there. 😆
Hi Michelle! I am up in Northern Alberta, Canada.
A great cabin. I just got out to my trappers cabin on the weekend with about the same amount of snow but had to deal with blowdown. Just posted a video on my channel
Thanks Dead Pine Collective! Blow downs are a pain! I have a couple of more suspect trees on my property I have to fall before they come down themselves, at least I can control which way they go when I do it! Thanks for tuning in and commenting!
i'd like to find a stove like that i might build a cabin if i can be sure of finding what i'd need
That's just a wood box heater it's the most inexpensive basic heater out there - they have been made sense the 1700s or so - most today are made in China but there far better than the American and Canadian box heaters from when they were made over here - you can often pick up those Chinese heaters used at a fair price -. Most will start with those heaters and up grade to an air tight wood heater because the air supply can be controlled were it will burn through the night -
I prefer those box heaters because I can burn any thing in them that burns -
I never build the fire outside of the wood stove. Hmmm does it start quicker ?
I find it easier to start that way, not as congested.
What is porridge made from? Is it a specific thing like oatmeal? I've heard of porridge all my life, but never have I heard anyone say what it's made with. Thanks.
Steels cut oats, it is an awesome breakfast in my opinion. I look forward to it every time I am at the cabin!
Mike looked up peas porridge and it turns out that it is split pea soup.
love your cabin ,good job love the area where you are , what state are you ?
Thanks ricky! I am in Canada, Northern Alberta.
What's is it he had for breakfast?
Hi Jennifer! Breakfast was steel cut oats or porridge!
⛔️ Is that a Modem / Router near the window ? ? ’The Videos are Great’ Thnx to you and ‘ALL’ our Canadien Friends ,, eh. ? ❤
No, that is actually a blue tooth speaker I use to listen to either audiobooks or music with from my phone while I am working or just hanging out at the fire pit. You have a sharp eye for details. Thanks for tuning in and commenting.
