    A tip for using the freewheel with the argon 2- the attachment for storing the freewheel on the back of the chair didn’t fit on my chair as the rear bar tubing seems to be a bigger diameter than other wheelchairs. I ordered a 25mm half coupler attachment here www.proproduction.co.uk/doughty-t58870-25mm-atom-half-coupler.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwk7rmBRAaEiwAhDGhxPXAjzcy9pS-ST3YZWpLFUN5WDTMMcYLwh3l0MckPwcX2w-W5PC8ExoCQCUQAvD_BwE. This fits on the rear bar and allowed me to attach the post that came with the freewheel on the back.

      Thanks for that tip, we've been meaning to try and find a solution to not being able to fit that attachment onto the chair - not having anywhere out the way to place the freewheel when not in use really has been our biggest and pretty much only issue with the freewheel so that should sort it right out thanks 😀

      PARALIFE You’re welcome! Took me a few months of head scratching before I came up with the solution. The bolt that comes with the freewheel is pretty hard to get through the coupler but screws in with a bit of pressure.

      Ok good to know we're probably not doing it wrong if we have a bit of trouble fitting it then :) Will order it now :)

    When i got my spinergy wheels 18 years ago, it changed my life. Felt like i got a new chair. Have had no problems with them.

    • @PARALIFE
      @PARALIFE  4 роки тому

      They do seem really well made, I've had mine a year now and no problems at all (unlike the original wheels which now have a few bent spokes) hopefully they'll still be going strong in 18 years!

      @@PARALIFE they should be unless you like jumping off mountains. And yea, i was replacing spokes every night. Quicke did a terrible service to the disabled by using thin spokes on mine. I will accuse them of installing crap forever. For all those that can, get spinergies on your first chair if possible. Or save up for them as fast as you can. No im not associated with them, just a very happy and thankfull customer.

    Argon 2 is quite a heavy chair, but compared to what you had, a considerable difference, you’re new to having an SCI so you’ll learn in time about the different types of chairs available that are much lighter than this, it is a favorite of wheelchair services....😉

    • @PARALIFE
      @PARALIFE  5 років тому +1

      Haha agreed nearly everyone at the spinal unit seemed to end up with an argon 2 from wheelchair services! Tried out a couple of lighter chairs but don't know enough yet to know what to choose, hopefully will for the next chair though :) What do you use?

      I use a motion composites Apex carbon(self funded) but my wheelchair services previous chair was a Tilite TRA( very lucky to have been provided that chair)

    Glad to see wheelchair service fund some things. I have to use a powerchair which they 99% of time don't fund or don't fund a suitable one 😂

    • @PARALIFE
      @PARALIFE  5 років тому +1

      We should've mentioned in the video actually that they only provide these to drivers so you can idependently get it in and out the car from the drivers seat otherwise they try and fob you off with a big clunky thing. But as long as you play up the fact you have a desire to drive they'll give you one (even if you can't drive yet)

    Back in 2016, I had a horrible bone infection in my left leg. Insurance got me this super crappy Invacare nursing home wheelchair to recuperate in. Sadly last year I had the bone infection back in the opposite side and it was the same bacteria...but by this time, it had destroyed my pelvis and femur...so I am in wheelchair permanently (well, I broke my neck when I was 22, and even though it was an incomplete injury, I knew all my progress wouldn't last.) The bone infection got into my spine and surprise, surprise...guess what my new legs are? Well, I was stuck with that stupid wheelchair because insurance wouldn't pay for another one so soon...so I had to pay for my own kind of customized one...which I would NEVER recommend to anyone. The breaks really are good and comfortable in your hands though. They are spring loaded push to lock, but they have a very comfortable handle. I am a higher level quad...so it makes all the difference...and there is only one foot plate (I have a nonunion fracture, and the 2 foot plates are not needed.) I'm thinking I'll be stuck with this one for another 3 years...so I can understand any frustration you had waiting for the new one. I hear sports wheel chairs are the bomb and are super light and easy to maneuver!
    Can you guys do a 'when you first got the chair and now that you've had the chair a while' comparison? That would be cool. Can you also show how to do a back wheel balance?
    The room is quite dark though, so I didn't really see everything you were showing.
    There are also several different Jay 3 backs.

      Sorry to hear about all your troubles, it sucks being stuck in a wheelchair that is no good! In the UK, we can get a new wheelchair through the NHS every 3-5 years, but it's very limited what you can actually get. The Argon 2 is the best thing they offer. I currently have lever brakes but I'm going to get push to lock (scissor) brakes on my new wheelchair, having a single footplate is a lot better too. We've tried out sports wheelchairs, the are amazingly fast and agile, but only on smooth surfaces, they would be terrible out and about!
      We probably won't do a video like that about this current wheelchair, as we are hoping to upgrade quite soon, but definitely for the new wheelchair we will discuss what's better and compare. We've been planning to do a few "wheelchair skills" videos including a back-wheel balance one, so keep an eye out for that 😀
      Yeah unfortunately lighting was a big problem in our early videos, we hope we've successfully improved on that now!! We might go back and remakes a few of the old ones if we think we can add anything to them.

      @@PARALIFE oh, no, I didn't say that to get sympathy or anything. I was just giving an example of how I was stuck with a nursing home chair to do every day life chores and going outside. It totally fell apart, frame and footrests, which could have hurt me bad. Imagine if the frame let go on the snow and ice 🤫? The US only gets you one every 5 years or so. But your saying 3 - 5 years (and they often model other countries so they'll LOOK good--trust me it's a ruse)...I may have qualified for a new one on their dime...I'd better check.

I wasn't after sympathy or anything...sorry if I gave the wrong impression. Your first proper chair is always a great thing! It's like a first car... Would you recommend the FreeWheel? I'm considering getting one, but I'm really not sure if it's worth it?

    • @PARALIFE
      @PARALIFE  5 років тому

      Yeah it is - it's not the best chair ever but it's so much nicer to have your own compared to borrowed chairs! In short, yes, I would definitely buy it again but it's not perfect! I guess it depends on what sort of stuff you'd plan to use for and if you have any other attachments that might make it redundant? We actually just filmed a review a few days ago about the pros and cons we've found - we'll hopefully get it edited and uploaded in the next week or two so that might be able to help you decide :)

      I have a freewheel and it is amazing. It makes such a difference when off road. Instead of constantly scanning the ground for obstacles and doing wheelies you can relax. Grass, gravel, cobbles and mud all become so much easier to navigate.

    • @PARALIFE
      @PARALIFE  5 років тому

      Agreed! Even on road it's helpful if you're on a pavement with big cracks/potholes etc and I also find it helps me fight better against a steep camber :)
