Dub out all the swear words with one word. That word is of course... McClunky. "That's my wallet, the one that says "Bad McClunkly on it" "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU McCLUNKY A STRANGER IN THE McCLUNKY" "Frankly dear, I don't give a McClunky"
tbh removing slurs out of movies is kind of dumb, they should add in just a warning before you watch the movie, as you said. I do not think that a movie should be changed unless it is legitimately a mistake (such as Jean Guy) RIP
With mistakes like GoT's coffee cup and The Mandalorian's Jeans Guy, I feel like there should be a '30 second rule' where they get to go back and fix small errors.
I remember my favorite thing from Disney was they released a really interesting collection of the ww2 era PSAs and propaganda cartoons commissioned by the government. They didn't just have a warning at the beginning but would have a real life person come in and explain some of the more insulting bits at the beginning of each segment. You can't get this collection anymore sadly, which is why I think that the warning labels aren't going to be where this censorship stops with these movies. If you get the chance I'd recommend "victory through airpower" it was my favorite from the collection and is on youtube. There's also a vaccine one that really good called "defense against invasion"
The guy you are referring to was Leonard Multan, film critic and historian. Also, he did little introductory summaries of the cartoons before they began
I remember one time, I was watching alien covenant on a plane (as you do). There was a content warning before the movie started and they said some things had been removed for their poor airplane's eyes, and I was like oh sure makes sense. I was most of the way through, and surprised to find that most of the extreme violence and gore was still present. The only scene they removed in the entire film was the part where Michael Fassbender kisses himself
I'm glad that Disney is protecting me this adult content, especially on movies that have been around for decades! Erase the past! Vandalize art! Delete cigarettes! They never existed! Meanwhile, millions of kids are playing Cold War, where every character is a chain smoker.
I 100% support disclaimers before videos that include questionable portrayals and racist stereotypes. However, if you're going to make edits, you damn well better make both versions available to the consumer and let us decide. I hate this "I decided and that's final" shit from Disney, George Lucas, and others. Just look at 'Major League'. That movie has some cringe-level stalking on the part of the main character, but it was probably seen as "cute" when the film was released. No way in hell would anyone do that nowadays (which is obvious a good thing), but to have someone go in and edit all of that out would be utterly ridiculous.
I desperately want them to release the 75th Anniversary edition of _Fantasia_ on blu-ray, but I want it to include the original, unedited version of the film.
"A lot of people say, 'You couldn't make Blazing Saddles now!', well why would you...?" 2 seconds later: "...look a lot of the issues are still very relevant..." That. That's why you would make Blazing Saddles now.
I cannot believe you boys didn't mention that pivotal scene from "the wolverine", where he goes on a truck and puts a cigar in his mouth then scratches the truck so it goes boom then takes a big ol drag and then throws it away
Along the lines of the Rescuers edit: in the theatrical release of Aladdin, the opening song had a line that said "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" that was changed to "it's flat and immense and the heat is intense" for the VHS and all subsequent releases.
The censoring of Walt holding a cigarette felt like the most problematic to me. I think it's because it entered the realm of editing historical footage, like Disney version of white washing. You could probably make a case for censoring fictional material that someone made up in the first place, but changing factual content to give the impression that a historical figure was more wholesome feels very 1984 .
Don't knock Song Of The South unless you have seen it I just recently found a stream of it online and It's not what you think it is. (Context is always key when talking about the past) If you ever get a chance to see it I would encourage you to do so. For a film set in post civil war Georgia made in the 1940s staring a black man, I find it hard to see the the issues. Not one time is a black person spoken to in a derogatory manner. As a matter of fact for the 40s it breaks ground, Uncle Remus holds hands with the white boy, (Sherley Temple and Bill Robertson rose a huge stink when she held his hand and danced in The Little Colonel.) the boy's good friend is a black boy, the antagonist of the story are 2 white boys and here's the kicker with them they go after the white lead boy NOT the black kid, and over prissy clothing and a dog not who his friends are. The cartoons a voiced by black actors the singing birds are voiced by a Latino ladies singing group. People may go on about not showing how things really were but take a moment and remember this was a children's film not a historical drama focusing on the sin of slavery but a child dealing with parents who are having a difference of opinion so much so that the separate for a time. Yes it is got rose colored glasses on and is dripping with Zippity Doo Dah sweetness, but why not? I'd rather see people getting along Fred Rogers style than some edgy film were people hate one another.
Yeah, exactly. I also did my own research on the film and found out that Walt wanted this to be respectful and stuff like that. He didn't mean for the film to come across as being rascist at all, but that's what everyone felt that it was doing.
True, also the cartoons are retellings of The Uncle Remus stories, which are written accounts of folktales that older slaves used to tell to the young slaves
100% agree with you. the man who played uncle remus was the first ever black person to win an academy award, and erasing the movie is essentially erasing that amazing part of history. i love the princess and the frog and as much as i want to see tiana get her own disney ride, i hate that they're getting rid of splash mountain (which isn't a "classic" classic but it's been around for 40 years that's pretty impressive by disney standards) and wish it wasn't happening. there's nothing wrong or racist with the ride itself, so i don't get why this has to happen. i'm a huge blm supporter, but i think the outrage over this movie is super exaggerated and everyone just assumes it's bad because someone else told them that it was rather than doing their own research. if the movie was more readily available, this wouldn't happen. i know this is a jumble of thoughts but i just wish that people saw this movie for what it is instead of what everyone says it is

The oddest thing about removing the "casting couch joke" from Toy Story 2 is, by bringing awareness of it in a children's film, now those kids are grown up, found out the context, was disgusted by it, and *probably* helped put bad people in jail. WHY would they remove it after the fact?

Reminds me of what I heard about when Disney owned the Power Rangers franchise. Totally lost... Is thier maximum outrage at the censorship or at the thing being censored? It seems to change all the time; I'm absolutely outraged
Yes.
tbh removing slurs out of movies is kind of dumb, they should add in just a warning before you watch the movie, as you said. I do not think that a movie should be changed unless it is legitimately a mistake (such as Jean Guy) RIP
They didnt censor magneto saying the f word in x men apocalypse

My hero. Common sense idea
I desperately want them to release the 75th Anniversary edition of _Fantasia_ on blu-ray, but I want it to include the original, unedited version of the film.
"A lot of people say, 'You couldn't make Blazing Saddles now!', well why would you...?"

Of course you couldn't, Cleavon Little died years ago!

When Disney owns everything and we're put in the ink slavev mines or something, I wonder if we'll have pre-approved history lessons?
I can't wait until they update song of the south, replacing every problematic line with Maclunkey
(Context is always key when talking about the past)
If you ever get a chance to see it I would encourage you to do so.
100% agree with you. the man who played uncle remus was the first ever black person to win an academy award, and erasing the movie is essentially erasing that amazing part of history. i love the princess and the frog and as much as i want to see tiana get her own disney ride, i hate that they're getting rid of splash mountain (which isn't a "classic" classic but it's been around for 40 years that's pretty impressive by disney standards) and wish it wasn't happening. there's nothing wrong or racist with the ride itself, so i don't get why this has to happen. i'm a huge blm supporter, but i think the outrage over this movie is super exaggerated and everyone just assumes it's bad because someone else told them that it was rather than doing their own research. if the movie was more readily available, this wouldn't happen. i know this is a jumble of thoughts but i just wish that people saw this movie for what it is instead of what everyone says it is
I hate film's being changed like this.
Honestly the last thing I would think after watching that scene in lilo & stitch would be: "huh, it would be cool to get inside of there"

The episode's removal came in the wake of two other shows, Scrubs and 30 Rock, pulling episodes featuring characters in blackface."
Because people are dumb and can't tell whether racism is serious or being parodied. I hope the BBC never censors the bizarre Tina Turner blackface scene from Psychoville. It's SUPPOSED to be awful - that's the joke.
Yeah, that one is pretty ridiculous. And a bummer. That episode was amazing!
Not a fan of censoring older films like that. I'd prefer they keep whatever slurs or whatever in and just have a warning in the beginning. But Disney gonna Disney I guess.
They changed the episode of the Simpsons called "El viaje misterioso del nuestro Jomer" to "Homer's Mysterious Voyage." Apparently, Disney thinks a language other than English is too scary for it's viewers.
The thing with Song of the South is for it’s time it was actually kind of revolutionary to give a black man such a starring role and he got an Oscar for it. First black person to ever get an Oscar. In addition it left a huge impact on Disney with Splash Mountain and Zippidee doo dah.

The oddest thing about removing the "casting couch joke" from Toy Story 2 is, by bringing awareness of it in a children's film, now those kids are grown up, found out the context, was disgusted by it, and *probably* helped put bad people in jail. WHY would they remove it after the fact?
They actually mock the cigarette deletion in the film 'Saving Mr. Banks' when Tom Hanks plays Walt Disney he keeps doing that two-finger salute.
Is it a mockery ? Or is it Disney affirming the idea that he used to make that gesture ?
@@gaspardlaurent742 It's actually more authentic than that ... Hanks was really smoking on the set during filming, then they digitally removed the cigarettes for the released copies.
