There's a lot that Europa have 'borrowed' from Disney, but this and Rulatica are quite a stretch. Disney can't even claim originality to an electricity themed coaster or a waterpark set in a mysterious land. Both concepts have been done elsewhere before.
Still it's a cool spot that these Tesla towers have been the inspiration for multiple rides before now.

I’m just pointing out some similarities! Though, I do believe it’s amazing if it truly was the case as Disney will never build that so it brings new life into these old concepts and expands on it. Major win for themed entertainment fans!

@themainstreetnews it's a very cool similarity, which is why I'm glad you made the video.
It's just EP get quite faily compared to Disney a lot, but in this case I'd genuinely be surprised if the creative team even remember that old Disney concept, let alone referenced it.
In many ways EP already out performs Disney. The resort hotels are incredible quality (one even has a double Mitchellin star restaurant), and they have some cutting-edge stuff like a Dark Ride Restaurant that I can absolutely see Disney buying into one day.

Another interesting 'coincidence' at Europa Park is the introduction of the A.C.E. (Adventurer's Club of Europe) that has a similar mythos to Disney's S.E.A. (Society of Explorers & Adventurers), with some rides and attractions being 'connected' throughout the park.

Some similarities are truly very funny, I didn’t know about this one so thanks for sharing! One other way of looking at this is that Europa brought SEA into Europe before Disney did 🤪

I think the history of european themeparks is an interesting topic. Imagine you are a european themepark and want to invest in a new attraction for your park. Most likely you look at the leader of the themepark industry to get an idea what works.
Attractions like a western themed mine train, a pirate boat ride, a space themed indoor rollercoaster became themepark staples. Disney was the undisputed leader and trendsetter in the past.
Why don't we see as many of these Disney inspired attractions today? I think the opening of eurodisney encouraged european themeparks to come up with their own ideas. Also the further integration of the EU simplifies the visit of foreign themeparks (sorry uk). And lastly these themeparks have gotten more confident in themself and have their own ideas to attract guest.
I don't think the Voltron rollercoaster is directly inspired by Disney. Tesla was an interesting person who even had some interesting legends around him. The rollercoaster is set in the 19 century. Disneys concept is inspired after jules verne, a sci fi author.

I completely agree with everything you said, except the ending 😅. Discovery Bay, the original concept from where so many of Discoveryland’s ideas would come from, would be a city built by great engineers, thinkers, dreamers and creators. Nikola Tesla would be a part of the storyline of this land!

    • @Tamwyn107
      @Tamwyn107 8 місяців тому +1

@@themainstreetnews That's the narrative that I don't like. Yes, he would have been a part of it, but the idea of thinkers, dreamers etc. was also taken from somewhere else and no, not just from the EPCOT City. There are several places and times, where this people came together and formed their place, their world around them.

Europa park used to be a worse version of disney. But i just dont think it is fair to say they were again inspired by disney for voltron. Bc it is a completely origional idea. And for sure better than what disney did in the past 20 years.

Sorry, but no. This time it isn’t a recycled idea, they took Croatia, because of their family and then they always take something that this country is best known for.
And please, study art, but don’t pretend that Disney invented all stuff of this. Of course the EP copied and developed things for themselves, that’s called æmultatio, and so did Disney too. The didn’t invent this spherical structure, called space ship earth. They didn’t invented any of their themes like adventure, pirates etc. There were generic and already to find in attractions also before the 1900 hundreds.
Also animatronics, they were a new take but look at automatons from the antic etc.

Most of Disney's inspiration for their parks came from Tivoli Gardens (Copenhagen). Walt Disney visited it many times, the earliest when his park concept was just an idea.
Georg Carstensen, the founder of Tivoli Gardens ,once said "Tivoli will never, so to speak, be finished", something that inspired Walt Disney to say: "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world".
Not trying to claim that Disney doesn't have their fair share of originality, because they have. But I have to agree with you, they have far less than the creator of this video claims.
Personally, as a thrill seeker, I'm anxious to visit E.P., probably doing it this year because of the Voltron opening, while Disney parks... they are fun for sure, but low on my priority list.

I think you misunderstood what I meant to say in this video. I don’t think it’s wrong to have similar attractions or rides between parks! Now, it’s more than obvious that Europa Park took a lot of inspiration from Disney Parks, and so did Disney with Tivoli Gardens and so many others, that’s not wrong!
As a matter of fact, having rides that were never built by Disney and expanding on it, like with Voltron, we theme park fans only win! It’s amazing that Voltron is a thing and I truly can’t wait to try it out myself!

    • @Tamwyn107

@@themainstreetnews I don't have any issues, when someone says that attractions are copied or inspired etc. pp. My issue begins, when people pretend that Disney invented everything, that's why I picked the Sphere for example, or that Tivoli Gardens gave "the most" inspiration. The quote is a good example, is proven that Disney took it, but he also said in this whole speech so much more.
It doesn't matter, if you see themeparks as a medium, because they tell stories, or as a stage like Disney also did, or as an entertainment form, or art form, in the end it's about adapatation. Take something here and mix it with that and you got a new product. This is how it works. There are clear knock-offs, but EP and other European Parks mostly aren't just that and Disney also did nothing else. He and his imageneers took a sphere building, from an Expo, and put a Darkride inside. The expo sphere was inspired from drawings, mixed with a garden. The drawings were part of a desire that architects had for thousand years: bulding a giant sphere.
The first Disney Darkrides used techniques that were inspired from othere theme parks and fairs. With each Darkride they copied an idea also from themselves and improved it. The Darkrides all uses tecniques from theater, theater from paintings etc.
This is how human fantasy/creativity works, even if we may not recognize it because it happens in our subconsciousness. That's aemultatio and/or (depending) adapation.
It's just not fair to say they "copied" this and that, while not saying that Disney also "copied" the thing as well. You can say that some do more effort than others, I think we all can agree on that, but the electricty theme is one of the oldest of theme parks for example.

I visited the park for two days the weekend before Easter in 2022, so I was able to experience the original mine train and half-finished Josefia boat ride. I had planned to go to Rulantica the night before, but DB screwed with me over so much I just wanted to be in my hotel room and call it a night (it was a rough travel day overall)

Other "inspirations" are (which you didn't mention):
      - Mississipi steam boats
      - Jungle cruise
      - Soarin'
      - Autopia
      - It's a small world (this is now gone)
      - Disney's railroad
      - Thunder Mesa (also gone now)

      - Splash Mountain

@@Tamwyn107 While MackRides is much older than Disney, it doesn't change the fact that most of what Europa Park was/is, has been very, very much inspired by Disneyland in Anaheim and Orlando.
Modern Europa Park rides like Voletarium aren't a clear copy. Many of the 70s, 80s and 90s rides are very much Disney copies. From Mickey Mouse to the garbge bins, and It's a Small World - even rides like the Milka chocolate ride were very much inspired by Disney (granted, not with chocolate.
Even the concept of European-themed lands was first done at Epcot.
The name "Europa" originates in the first proposed site for Europa Park. Next to the Europa lake...

This is pure *swear word* (europa park) If you build a water ride based on pirates, If you build a dino dark ride, If you build a structure simular that disney has, If you're mascot happend to be a mous "oh it's inspired by disney"
(Efteling) If you build a fairytale forest with many classic fairytales where disney happend to have films from, if you build a hotel at the entrance of you park "Oh it's Inspired by disney"
I think personally it is *swaer word* You cant build anything anymore cuz people always will be saying thats awfully familliar to THE MOUS i think it needs to stop right here nothing is inspired by disney
europa park builded the pirates cuz of the old netherlands culture they build the dinosaur atrraction cuz of france and their dinosaurs they build voltron because of the history there they builded the building that looks like the one from EPCOT cuz it was back then futuristc
efteling were inspired by the fairytales of german, france, italian, etc. people They just wanted more guests in their park by buiding hotels.
I think we need to stop "connecting" like you guys are saying to disney just becuse THE MOUSE is one of not the most biggest companys in the world
Just because euopa park is younger that the DL parks doesn't mean its all inspired (Efteling is 20 Years older then the DL parks btw) (And i know there are other parks out there who deal with the same kind og thing but pls stop just let people theme there attractions how they want to) i hope i made my personal POV clear.

Europa Park as we know it today, showcasing many countries with their own pavilions and experiences, only began after EPCOT came to be, and let's not forget Eurosat. There are a huge number of things that were either inspired or straight out copied from Disney Parks, especially EPCOT.
Universum der Energy even went to the ridiculous levels, not only talking and using the same things (how energy came to be via dinosaurs), but even the same name as the EPCOT attraction: Universe of Energy.
Ghost Castle is a straight out copy of the Haunted Mansion, with iconic parts completely recreated by the German park such as the stretching room and many scenes in this omni-mover ride. The mascot of Europa Park, Ed Euromaus, is clearly inspired by the other mouse that's the face of other theme parks, Mickey Mouse.
I could go on and on with more similarities, but I don't think that would add anything. At the end of the day, Disney was also originally inspired by theme parks such as the incredible Tivoli Gardens, it's a part of the industry, but to say that Europa Park is completely original and didn't copy parts of Disney Parks is just not correct.
