Peace Walker Briefing Files - Huey Emmerich (No Menus)

- In this video we learn about NORAD's most important duty, and the son of the Manhattan Project vows to keep the dream of deterrence alive at any cost. I'm sure your unborn children will be proud!
Disclaimer: One of the reasons I recorded these is specifically so I could hear an uninterrupted Otacon lecture about nuclear politics. Easily my favorite character of the Metal Gear series, to the point where my heart skipped a beat when I saw a true Otacon equivalent was written into Big Boss's canon. - Ігри
"People can change, I know..." - Huey Emmerich
Damn. He went from heartfelt and amazing in Peacewalker to a conniving, festering sore in TPP. Wow...
People aren't as they seem.
The whole point of the MGS series
Well to be fair, I'm pretty sure he went back to being Otacon (the guy I remember him as) after MSGV:TTP. He was probably changed from a conflict of loyalties and losing lots of family, but eh, the meek will inherit the earth. As Hal said: "Snake's...had a rough life..."
@@Harshhaze Y'know Huey is Hal/Otacon's dad, right?
Nine years *is* a long time, so there's bound to be a lot of changes. Still, I can't help but wonder if Skull Face got under his skin somehow...
Harshhaze . Otacon is hueys son
The real reason Big Boss went bad: He found out Santa wasn't real.
xD
He never went bad to begin with. That was just an image painted onto him by the US ruling parties, the real big bad of the series. According to these games, which dictates Big Boss building up Mother Base, he actually planned to use them in an rebellion, an attempt to overthrow the corrupt rulers.
Metal Gear was originally intended as to be used as a vigilant's weapon, the sort of weapon someone would use as a force for good. It was not until latet models whereupon it started to be used beyond this purpose, hens them being a lot more serious threats.
@@KarjamP Big boss recruited a child soldier
save them and then send them back into the battlefield according to Sniper Wolf and him self in final battle with Solid Snake
one of my favorite things about metal gear is its actually educational if you listen to the codecs and follow the story it provides a good history lesson.
Right. It's amazing how much a video game can teach you.
+Nameless It kind of glosses over the fact that going through with Operation Downfall instead of just dropping nukes would have been far worse. Hundreds of thousands of allied soldiers would have died, countless civilians would have died, and the Soviets probably would have stormed in and established a postwar division similar to what happened to Germany. Unfortunately, many people forget all that and instead just see using nukes in that particular scenario as horrible and unthinkable, when in reality that was arguably the best option to have the fewest casualties on either side, not to mention prevent the Soviets from occupying part of the Japanese mainland. Also, on a side note, the firebombings of Tokyo were actually more destructive than the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And that was probably going to continue well into the war if the Japanese didn't surrender.
TheCreeperMan990 In the long run i feel it would have been better had we gone through with the Manhattan project. nuclear weapons have the potential to pretty much wipe out the entire god damn planet, granted however we do have the salt II treaties, though its up to debate how tangible they may be in reality, its still the only concept thats really keeping countries with nuclear weapons from killing everyone.
However i would agree had we not created the atom bomb something of equal power or something much more destructive would bound to have been invented in its place.
you have no idea how many school projects i passed thanks to the cassette tapes and codec conversations.
I agree with you there but they try to keep these big things relevant to the story. like the cuban missle crisis and they are already in cuba so it makes sense. But if the story was based in japan instead of cuba then they would have talked about operation downfall alot more.

I love how quickly snake denied liquid and David. Them poor kids
I think David doesn't give a damn. In retrospective, he's the actual hero of the franchise and is perhaps even stronger than Big Boss
+Mubeen Bankur I don't think he cared either, Eli and George basically went insane over the truth, but David was like "Meh, Whatever."
"hero". a pawn manipulated by the patriots.
Compared to a guy who thinks eternal war and kidnapping child soldiers, while threatening the world with a nuclear missile is the solution of the world's problems and has tons of fanboys defending his actions despite admitting he was in the wrong in the end?
Sorry, pal, but if there is a hero in this franchise, like it or not is Solid Snake.
Pedro Juan He was still a pawn of the patriots. The patriots wanted to control the entire world by war and politics. Not to mention the creation of the AIs which only created a bigger mess. There is no hero in this story, just people who fought for ideals that ended doing more harm than good just to understand the will of a soldier who was rejected by the world.
Snake is adorable when he gets indignant over Santa's existence.
Big boss everyone. Biggest badass in history, Slayer of Robots and the genesis of super-soldiers around the world.
And he is scared of Vampires and believes in Santa Claus
@@tempusmars6272 & has disdain for james bond!
“Nuclear terrorism.. Interesting.”
Boss, no. Please, no.
Don't worry. That's Venom's thing.
@T. O. They do end up a nuclear terrorist, though, in MG1.
When Huey was cool
I thinks he is still cool, he was a brilliant idealistic men, but weak and prone to revenge.
@@guisampaio2008 You've not heard about him during MGS4, have you?
Wrong, he was never cool.
Huey was cool until Kojima decided to make him a bad guy, along with shitting all over the rest of PW's cast lol.
Plz... The man was a hack scientist. Every idea he came up, he stole from other people. All he does rely on pretty words to flatter people’s ego and hypocritical bullshit to justify his own failings. The man doesn’t even believe in Santa. What an asshole!
You know...the Emmerich family is messed up.
+raidenslicer Huey commited suicide because like Ocelot said, he regretted what he did before. But yes, Hal's affair was the final moment.
you can do a lot a crappy things in life, but in the end you know what you did wrong. At least, Huey did just that 'cept he just committed suicide cause of his second wife cheating on him.
Huey deserved it.
Honestly, seeing as how Huey ruthlessly killed his wife once she tried to get their son away from him, I doubt him drowning in the pool was a suicide, I think that once he found out about Hal and his second wife, he tried drowning Emma in rage, only to fall in himself.
things I learned in this video:
-big boss believes in Santa claus
-huey invented vaping
'Say you wanted to be cloned...'
I see what you did there.
MGS V: "ua-cam.com/video/VathYi2bOeE/v-deo.html"
It's a shame he becomes a total scumbag in MGS V...
He says he feels bad because Nagasaki was reduced to ash but he tried it right back to his legs not working selfish piece of shit
No he was always like this
@@mrnukes797 Think of all the plagiarism he committed.
Proxy wars are real. A Proxy war is "a war that results when opposing powers use third parties as substitutes for fighting each other directly". Take the Vietnam war for example, it was a Proxy war. In reality NATO and Warsaw were at war but to avoid Nuclear war they used the Vietnamese to fight for them. The Afghan war is the same thing but this time the US used the Proxies. Such Proxies include the Gurka's, French Foreign Legion, Al Qaeda etc. It's a real life system that has been in use.
It’s a good thing his son ended up becoming a far, far better person than he ever was.
I about lost my shit when boss said "He had you by the balls, doc." XD i'm dying. 24:33
While I did find Huey being NOTHING like his son an interesting twist, I still hate how it bascially threw everything away these tapes set him up to be.
What do you mean? Read between the lines! Those tapes already foreshadow what he would become!
PW was meant to build up Huey and it did but there was never any doubt that he would be a real piece of shit. We’ve known that since MGS2.
Except if you listen to the tape about Big Boss being surprised that Huey would help arm a nuke on ZEKE, you'd realize then that he had no real sense of ethics and wasn't against Nuclear weapons at all.
Despite all the horrors it caused, the damage it did to his body. The fear of using a weapon. Acknowledging that Snake could change and use one, he still did it. And he was happy to do it.
Huey was always a liar with a weak sense of morals. He only got confronted in TPP, unlike in PW, which is why they seem so different.
We get it you vape huey
Let's recount everything that Huey did.
-Sold us out and got our base and organization destroyed.
-Killed Strangelove
-Forced Otacon to be a test subject.
-Lied to us yet again.
-Caused the only one being true and loyal to us to leave.
-Forced us to kill our own soldiers.
-Kaz became a cripple and a madman because of him.
You cost me my base.
You cost me my friends.
You cost me my men.
You cost me my woman.
Huey Emmerich! You can never be forgiven for all that you have done.
He would later commit suicide induced from the sheer weight of his own sins. Good.
This is the only right way. To be crushed and ended by the suffering that he inflicted on others.
Atone in death... Huey Emmerich!!!
Holy Shit The Peace Walker Credits And MGS V GZ And TTP SPOILERS!

Huey looks really sophisticated in that photo, and I can bare with his voice.
I really really want to see little Hal as a kid with his Father in MGS5. I'd die.
Ken Ken Me too! He would be about 4 then, and maybe we'd finally get some answers as to who his mother is.
+The Saltiest Pearl his mom is Strangelove photos all over TPP, besides it was pretty damn obvious by the end of PW.
Oops, nevermind.
Ken Ken this comment aged VERY poorly
"With his father" lol, rather see Heuy die
12:25 this whole conversation is why I hate Huey's character in Metal Gear Solid V.
I even played this game and It was like befriending Otacon all over again.
then MGS V comes along and suddenly everyone hates huey and calls him a traitor while huey is a backstabbing bitch who uses "Snake's Nuke" as an excuse for all of The Phantom Pain
I think even here he is lying, deep down huey only cares about himself.
He is just praising big boss here because he is keeping him safe.
I think it was a good twist. The fact that Huey looks identical to Otacon, shares his voice actor, and most of his personality (at least in PW) would automatically insinuate that his role as Naked Snake's tech buddy would parallel that of their sons. But it actually still does: Big Boss went off the deep end and became a demon, while Huey just became a disgusting coward piece of shit. They've become the antitheses of their offspring.
I prefer the PW´s cassettes than the PP's cassettes.
H.S.G it had more of that traditional mgs banter, not just venom snake listening most of the fucking time. I get kojimas goal in that game, but there's a reason why mgs 5 ain't that great of a title in the franchise. I rather play peace walker or portable ops than mgs 5 any day. Mgs 5 may have answered most questions through tapes, but why can't they be cool cutscenes than just recordings. I have a feeling konami had something to do with it, or kojima just thought gameplay matters more?
I feel like at least some of the tapes were meant to be cutscenes...
Kojima went overbudget, it shows with that ambitious engine.
Same for the game in general.
Phantom Pain cassettes were cold. No face, fewer relaxed topics, limited Snake lines, and Ocelot was underwhelming.
when huey said that the fallout could affect reproduction too and big boss said i know.... a part of me died....
George Terpsidis I don’t get it?
@@dubsquad156 big boss had passed a nuclear test in his youth the rest of his comrades died from cancer or leukemia but he survived just without the ability to reproduce,he was rendered sterile.
George Terpsidis oh and that explains why they had him cloned because they couldn’t do the same thing they did with the boss and kidnap his child
@@dubsquad156 yeah in hopes of not letting the genes of the ultimate soldier die zero cloned. And technically zeros patriots are different than the philosophers but in the end they both.used shady tactics to get their hands on the.children of legendary soldiers.
George Terpsidis okay thanks
Peace Walker still remains my favorite game in the series. How the hell does a PSP game have more story in ONE character's briefing files than all of the briefing tapes and cutscenes across a PS3-era duology like Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain combined?
12:47 Snake Voice Crack
Wait after all that I'm shock snake believes in Santa. LOL
lol
@@richardm.6515 This is kinda big in terms of BB's upbringing, naively believing in Santa, as there was nobody to tell him the truth, but as a born soldier ofcourse knowing everything about NORAD, and having the memories mixed as if he's known pretty much that exact story all his life, never really giving it a second thought which is why he gets annoyed about it
31:39 Snake believes in Santa confirmed.
It's sad knowing Huey's future. Remember what Otacon said? Huey killed himself after learning his son slept with his wife (Not Otacon's mother, Emma's mother and his step-mother). It's also very sad that Emma actually had a romantic interest in Otacon (Remember, they're step-siblings) and had to die that way. Watching Huey in Peace Walker, knowing that he's going to fall into suicidal depression because of his son having an affair with his wife is just makes me sad for them.
milkduds1001 and then seeing Huey’s actions and hearing about his motives in The Phantom Pain made me lose all sympathy for him.
When did this happen??
Was this comment before "The Phantom Pain" came out?
@@DoratTheKiller It was before I played it so yes.
@@milkduds1001 That explains it. Since it wasn't harsh at all towards Huey, which it would have been if you had already plaged MGSV when you commented

He didn't wanna smoke that phantom cigar lol
12:44 This quote is priceless lol
Huey didn't really give a very compelling argument why Peace Walker needed legs, he just said "na uh!! yeah it does" and thats about it, I have to side with Sigint on how impractical Metal Gears actually are, especially in reality since anyone in engineering will tell you never to make anything complicated if you can avoid it because its only gonna multiply its likelihood of failing......the fact Big Boss and Solid snake have been able to take these things out on foot is kinda proof of that, by comparison, the Shagohad was the hardest to destroy and needed the most help to make it happen
yeah, Naked Snake and EVA had to lure the Shagohad into a pre-made trap just to expose its weak spot
It's no wonder Volgin favoured Sokolov's Shagohod, over Granin's bipedal 'metal gear' invention. Less practical, more straightforward I guess.
If only Huey know he would actually challenge his son 2 a fight!

Thanks heaps for compiling all these PW tapes, appreciated.
Your saying a legendary soldier THAT CAN KILL A MILLION SOLDIERS believes in Santa clause
13:41 hot damn...
34:06. Reeeeally? Is that so?
les enfants terribles would say otherwise
13:24 was it worth it?
13:45 Hit me pretty hard. Kojima had to have planned TPP from as early as PW... shit man. Or he could have just been hinting at his future dive into chaos (Outer Heaven Uprising, going "evil", etc)
I don't really like how they made his character do a total 180 in 5. There was really no reason for it. Unless they thought he was too much like Hal. Even so, I thought he was innocent until they found the body of Strangelove. Think about it though, is it so hard to believe that during the destruction of Motherbase he was left with the choice of dying or going with them seeing as he's a fucking paraplegic? Still he was guilty as hell, but that's what I thought until he was proven guilty.
8:50 listen to this exchange on Deterrence v Terrorism.
Loyalty to Big Boss and the MSF/DD’s is a principle. Huey was loyal to Boss in PW due to the fact that they both had the same goal. Stop Coldman and end the nuclear threat, even though their principles were the same, BB was still ever so slowly falling from grace and becoming the BB we see in mg1 and 2.
Everyone around him too, they all seemingly fell with him. Kaz loses his own humanity and confident composure- all in favor of more aggressive and tyrannical behavior, the medic who becomes his phantom double that goes on his own self-realization that he will eventually also fall to more evil means to continue BB’s legacy. Huey is a prime example. After developing ZEKE and the nuke, Huey was too far gone and realized he was like his father, probably horrified that he himself did what he was against his father doing- building WMDs.
It’s not any one man’s fault they did what they all did. They did what they felt they had to do- not to just survive, *but to keep fighting* just like BB’s vision of the world would eventually become.
I've never played Peace Walker (although I feel a strange affection for Huey for some reason) but Huey can't walk? Aw...
Am I the only one who likes Big Boss more than Solid Snake?
Me
Who doesn't?
+Emperor Of Lepichans I believe most people like Big Boss better than Solid Snake. I like Solid Snake more than Big Boss, but since MGS3 we're in the minority. The Boss is my favorite character though.
+Emperor Of Lepichans Because Big Boss is a flawed character that makes mistakes and is kind of a tragic character, I mean sure Solid made mistakes and has tragedies too but he's the de facto hero of the series and he does the right-est of things.
Him and Otacon even got the Boss' will correct (Philatrophy's slogan "Let the world be") even though they was unaware of it.
Big Boss has been in more games. Kinda funny how Solid Snake is the main guy and yet his dad is featured more. Honestly, Kojima could have made a portable Metal Gear game that took place in between MGS2 and MGS4. In a similar vein as Peace Walker, with the Ashley Wood motion comic cutscenes.
so huey invented the juul
They should have sunk that life raft
Huey would be so proud of Hal, as would Strangelove
Huey asked Big Boss about cloning himself and BB said paramedic had the same idea. Is that a MGSV foreshadow?
Kind of. ParaMedic is the one who worked on the clones of Big Boss. ParaMedic is also known as Dr. Clark in later years (think of it as an alias). Dr. Clark is mentioned in The Phantom Pain by Huey to Venom Snake. In addition, in MGS1, Naomi mentions that Gray Fox (Frank Jaeger) killed her because of the terrible tests she did on him and Naomi covered it up. So yeah it kinda foreshadowed in MGSV. More like they mentioned it now that I think about it.
I find it interesting that “nukes for peace” is probably the same thing his dad said while working on the big one
5:00 and while we pretended to win, Russian probes were on or near Mars and I think Venus

26:11 _Metal Gear?!_
huh, so that's how Otacon got his name.
25:58 I don’t think that counts, he literally said “this is yours now”
Maybe Huey eventually betrayed MSF as revenge for Snake reading his letter to Strangelove... lmao
I thought otacon's dad killed himself after learning otacon, (spoiler for mgs2) had sex with his new step-mom...?
He did

Don't get me wrong I love Huey's character, but the whole "Big Boss and Huey were friends too!" thing just feels forced, like Kojima is now going out of his way to create parallels to the Solid Snake saga even if it doesn't feel natural.
It reminds me of that stupidass quote that George Lucas liked to use when he made the Star Wars prequels, "It's like poetry, it rhymes." NO! It doesn't always have to fucking" rhyme"!
I get what you mean but their relationship is nowhere near the level of Solid and Otacon, here Miller is Big Boss right hand filling that role and Huey is just a guy he's friendly with because we needed another otacon.
Sanguiluna i agree. they could of used a different voice actor or christopher randolf could have tried to alter his voice a bit more

+Sanguiluna Nope, you can't love what they did in TPP, bastard deserved a lot more punishment.
I never understood why they tried to make him a good guy here, knowing that he kills himself and attempts to take his step daughter with him. MGSV made his character made a lot more sense. At that point the only good thing about this pos is that he gave us otacon.
Maybe it's to try and get us to understand how Snake viewed him at the time?
