- Lobst here! It turns out Peace Walker still has tons of backstory that hasn't even been touched by the campaign, so I decided to record them all and edit out the menus and tape-switching sounds that take place in between. The end result comes across as a casual conversation between Big Boss and his best bro that gradually gets more and more personal as time goes on, then sharply switches to a dry discussion of stealth mechanics.

this is what real history is like. what they teach before university at the average school just isnt that engaging. if you're lucky and get into a good high school, you may get a taste of a more dialogue-based teaching style if you meet an excellent teacher or teachers. you start with memorizing dates and end with reading books like the memoirs of Napoleons Valet or some other scandalous book lmao. Real history is always messy and the best accounts are full of humor, insight, and new perspectives you can apply.

Miller is one of the most intelligent characters of the series.
And also one of the most angriest.
RainbowFury well if you think about it. Everything he built was destroyed in a single day. Suffered 9 years while Snake was asleep. Lost 2 limbs. Finally ‘Snake’ comes to save him from the brink of death. He found out that ‘Snake’ is not the real Big Boss but a mother base soldier (AKA Venom Snake). The real Big Boss was already healthy enough to save Kaz way before his limbs were even severed from him. But seems like saving Kaz wasn’t even worth Big Boss’s time. So he sent a copy of him to save Kaz which also serves as a starter mission to see if Venom Snake is any good. Also out of no where, Ocelot comes into the picture and is apparently Snake’s best friend and not Kaz himself. I would be really angry if I were in his shoes lol

The story of him going to America, meeting his dad, his mom dying and then drifting around, that was beautiful. My favourite character in the whole series.
Wow. The voice acting in the "Upbringing" tape is so good. There's a couple times where it sounds like Kaz is fighting back tears.

It breaks my heart how much Kaz hated Big Boss after Phantom Pain. Also hurts how glad Kaz was when Solid Snake killed Big Boss in Metal Gear 2.
These tapes show one thing: Miller is a friggin' genius. If we had someone with his foresight, logistics, and business savvy in office, the USA would be much better.

Breaks the immersion of the game really. The legendary hero (and killer for hire) Big Boss, fellating a communist one-hit wonder that was Che Guevara. For fucks sake, BB even gets a make over to look more like El Doctor.
Yeah, so? By the end of the day, Big Boss was a war-monger creating wars just so his Outer Heaven had a reason to exist. It doesn't really break the immersion of the game than appeal to a sense of irony.
But I guess not.
Thats a non sequitur; there's no "appeal to irony", Kojima is just a Che fanboy and it is reflected through his characters. Hell, BB isn't even the big bad guy yet, he's protecting a pacifist nation from invasion and disarming nuclear weapons. There's nothing morally ambiguous about what MSF or BB is doing. It's jarring to see a legendary hero who saved the world (twice) and raised a private army that protects the defenseless to proceed to fellate a one-hit wonder like Che.

Costa Rica may have been officially neutral during the Cold War, but it had no problem funneling money to the United Fruit Company, which was a CIA front company, as well to other intelligence agencies. The MSF was, first and foremost, a place for soldiers to find use after their government tossed them aside like toys. The second was that as a PMC they could do what they pleased with their clients' permission because, not being a governmental group, they and their clientele could keep their hands clean.
MSF doesn't protect the defenseless - it protects whoever pays it to. It is a mercenary company. In that it is *wholly* ambiguous.
Che is mentioned because of his impact - positively and negatively - on military guerrilla tactics and for South American relations. You can say he's a one-hit wonder, but his tactics are responsible for the creation of the Green Berets - a group Big Boss was a part of before he moved to covert ops. You can call Kojima a Che fanboy but I see the broader subject.
If anything, *I* find it jarring when kiddos throw around logical fallacies they don't actually understand. I was offering an answer to your comment about why BB was a Che fanboy, and of course you stuck up your nose and ignored it. No worries. I just happen to know more than you.
No goofy goober, it's a non sequitur to say "So what BB fellates Che, he's a war monger XD". Feigning intellectual superiority by spewing more irrelevant horseshit and calling detractors 'kiddos' doesn't even make you right in internet arguments. But it's my fault for engaging with a fanbase whose only counter to any and all criticisms of their favorite game creator is saying "it's 2deep4u".
In Japanese version there are also a few tapes talking about curry, mountain dew, and pepsi nex. Have they appeared in English version?

decoyoctopusra From what was said of the media testers that were able to play for like 16 hours that most of the game's dialogue is actually in the tapes rather than cut scenes.

Amazing how these characters have been fully developed by means of codec calls/cassette tapes. These are essentially radio plays.
Yeah it’s a shame mgs5 tapes don’t nearly live up to the quality of the ones in peacewalker by being mainly just plot essential and not having anything that actually lets their characters shine through talking about non essential things

To be honest, Snake's voice is way too gruff in Peace Walker. I think that Kojima made the right decision hiring Kiefer Sutherland instead. He doesn't talk much in Ground Zeroes, but I love his voice, very fitting for Snake's age (especially in the Phantom Pain).
I agree. I love keifers voice, though sometimes Hayters voice fit some scenes better, I think kiefer lands the role better.
He sounds like he's told to sound. The problem is with the director here, 'cause Hayter's voice is still the same.

i downloaded this for my psp and even though it said it was an hour and seven minutes long when i looked at it on my psps it turned into 6 and half hours long i checked to see if it was looping but it wasn't it played normal and have EVERY conversation they had i loved that i was just suprised to see how long it was. Can you explain to me why it expanded after i downloaded it?

I can't access any, ANY of the briefing files on any of the missions. They all show up as gray, even the data files. I beat the 3rd peace walker fight but I remember before doing so fighting chrysalis I remember being able to listen to Huey talk about it in briefing. I only noticed because I got a tape to listen to that has something to do with EVA but I literally cannot listen to ANY of the briefing files under ANY of the missions.

never finished peace walker but i scoured through the wikias and now the tapes. like i did mgsv. i would do ground zeroes but mgsv tpp covers the whole incident. mostly.
if i was you, id stil atleast watch the mgsv cutscenes. thats basically what i did, skimmed the gameplay of a playthrough, watched the cutscenes and tapes.

I love David Hayter's Snake, but obviously he put less effort in the recording for the later games. It is understandable Kojima replaced him in MGSV.
It has nothing to do with effort, heck Hayter even vomited during the recording for this game because of the coughing he had to do after the torture sequence. It's the voice direction. And no, it's not understandable that you replace an iconic voice actor for some Hollywood shmuck who gives a flat, exasperated delivery for the 5 lines of dialogue he has in the game.
@@Alexander-nr5tt Exactly, Hayter was doing a deeper 'gravlier' voice for a much older Snake. I understand replacing him for Keifer if it was just from the perspective of getting a new voice for an even older Snake, but the actual justification for it was just dumb. Hayter absolutely didn't put less effort in.
