Jack Dennis did not trim the hackle on the original pattern. He used undersized even with the hook gap. He said that trimming the hackle would create a siphoning effect and the trim hackle barb’s would suck in water. He also added orange, yellow or white foam at the bullethead tie down as an indicator. This fly sits amazingly low in the water
