Great video as usual Charlie. Could you do a video or perhaps touch on during a video, how you control your thread tension; and at what times you want more or less tension? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You tie this big enough - say in a size 4 or 6 - and with a brighter orange dubbing, you have yourself a sweet skater-style dry for N. Umpqua steelhead or even a salmon fly for the Gunnison hatch. Awesome tie Charlie boy
Hey Charlie nice tie. I've been searching the internet for a video on the Larsens legend stonefly pattern. Cannot find any videos on it. So since you are one of the best and my favorite tier to watch tie flies. I was wondering if you could figure out the pattern and do a video on it. Thanks
Curious about whether the head cement will 1) bond the hook eye to the foam and 2) will fill in the hook eye to make it even more difficult to thread the tippet through the eye since the foam is laying on the hook eye. Cleaning the hook eye with a stripped feather or peacock herl would seem helpful.
I’m betting if you put enough head cement on there sloppily that you sure could glue the foam to the eye or fill the hook eye, but if you take a closer look you can see that I turned the fly in the vise before applying the cement and so the thin head cement does not run forward onto the foam or eye but instead it runs into the thread head and thorax of the fly. Details make the difference!
This looks great! Thanks for teaching how to tie this busy bug. Should get some panfish and bass.
Nice pattern! Thanks for sharing, Charlie.

I would think you could tie this in any stone sly color?
Is this your rendition of a mash up of the el Camino and 64 impala?
What brand and bottle do you use for the head cement?
This is probably Gloss Coat in an Applicator bottle from Wapsi.
There is a lot going on here....
