This is a good drive for the average user. I think it would be worth mentioning that sustained write speeds will only matter if you are moving large files to another SSD that is at least as fast. For downloading games you would need to have at least like 5 gigabit internet for the sustained write speed to start holding you back.

I think I paid £60 for my 1TB Western Digital WDS100 on a M2 format, its not the fastest SSD out of the box but boy did it turn my Ryzen 5 system from a slowcoach to almost instant boot, 47 secs from power on to all apps loaded and ready to go and gameplay is just astonishing. I was so impressed I bought a 2.5 fitment for my ancient HP laptop and now that is running super fast.
To be fair the sn570 can now be found in 2 TB. And I know it does not have dram cache however, for the average user the thing is still blistering fast. When comparing this to a Gen 4 m.2 with game load times I could not tell the difference with the Gen 4 m.2 being faster only by a few milliseconds.

WoW Excellent review in détails and super clear. Tests in deep liké this one are so rare on UA-cam. In fact this is the only one I could find which shows the write throughput drop at about 10-15GB. I found exactly the same on mine (before watching this video).which is a ni go to me. in comparaison, the Kingston NV1 2TB drops less thought it is slover at the begining
Thanks again for great quality review Nada / Techtesters 🥰🥳👍. I personally got myself a couple months back, 2x 2TB Kingston KC2500’s for a little less then the price of one, on sale here in Australia 🇦🇺. I use them for my Ultra SFF Skyreach Mini S4 gaming build. The drives perform quite admirably for both boot, game & media drives and provide a VG amount of storage 🤩🤯🎉. Some awesome deals can be had in 2021, you just need to look around ….. and at times, have a bit of luck 🍀👍. Ive managed to score many out of this world deals from Dell, Amazon, eBay, Razer, and also directly from some manufacturers.
i'm kinda glad all the hardware tech companies went ballz-to-the-wallz with ip=>product heading into chip shortage, it gave them an economic motivation to continue to take risks. I think we can mostly thank tsmc for that, but fabs have also stepped up to work on bleeding edge performance, economy, and scale. When availability is no longer an issue and some of this burgeoning tech is matured it will be a different landscape, to be sure.
Thanks for this great review. I'm building a semi-budget gaming computer and just picked up two of the SN550 NAND devices primarily because they were on sale for $42.00 USD. Hopefully, the performance is at least decent until I upgrade later next year.
I used this new gen nvme 500gb for my Asus x507ua-ej562t and worked perfectly. My system has become a rocket now. Boot time reduced to 8 sec including password to desktop. Go for it if you have Asus x507ua-ej562t.
Honestly 550-600 MB/s is still overkill for pretty much all end user applications and plenty to avoid bottlenecks in most productivity workloads. Unless you for some reason regularly transfer huge files from one NVMe SSD to another or do the same via thunderbolt it barely makes any difference. And even then, let's say you end up with a 100GB RAW video file or huge project file, that's still only gonna take around 3 minutes.
Bought it today because i had huuuge stutters in Escape from Tarkov and my old SSD was kinda broke i would say so i upgraded to an NVME and i tell you, Game is smooth af and runs like a charm. If some EFT Players should see this in the Future, yes its worth it for the Game if you have stutters.
At 6:05 you can say the write performance degrades because the buffer filled up. This test result reveals the true write speed of the SSD non-volatile memory.
Snatched the SN550 for 84€. I went NVMe mostly of the bandwidth that make it better for pagefile usage, not tested that thing yet but should be good next to my valiant 7200 rpm HDD in my laptop ! Edit : and it did ! 1 min 15s+ for loading Cities:Skylines vs 7 min+ , helped by more than double the RAM and 4× the VRAM to boot !
Hey Nada, do you have any thoughts on the Crucial P5(2TB or 1TB) and whether or not it's worth it? There doesn't seem to be many reliable reviews concerning this drive out there, would love to hear your thoughts!
I haven't seen them yet, but I had the X8 in a test with a ton of other externals and that did great (assuming the price is OK too). I actually just reached out to Crucial yesterday, hope I'll be able to include the P5 in an upcoming external test as well!
I am very happy to have discovered this channel when I was updating my PC from 15 years ago. I still have a conventional HD and I just can't decide which SSD to go with, for now I'm saving money and intending to have an intermediate SSD for OS and programs (Solidworks Cad), I'm in doubt between SN570 and Kingston NV2 (both 500GB). Or would it be better to get a little more cash and go for a high-end SSD?
Not sure how prices in your area are, but 1TB is barely more expensive than 500GB here. A 1TB SSD will be a bit faster as well. Between the two I'd say NV2, but maybe see if you can grab a Crucial P3 Plus for a similar price. Or just say what options you have and I'll give my 2 cents.
still rocking a last gen SN550. Solid speed & Endurance for the money. Chances are, with the realease of this newer SN570, the 550 might be put on sales, which is highly recommendable
Thanks for the great information. Any chance for follow-up on looking at more recently produced Adata and XPG ssd's in the last year since the swap-out issues?
I actually bought their SX 8200 Pro and performance was so under expectations that I returned it to the store assuming it was a hardware issue, but this was before I found out they're basically swapping parts all the time. I might talk about it in an upcoming update, but I have some other plans first. For example Gen4 SSD content which will include their S50 Lite (you might want to watch that. As for the SX8200 Pro, for now I'd avoid that one until they clear up this confusion.
I'm not sure there really is a market for a 2TB version. I have just checked a UK supplier, they only have the Blue 550 and Black 750 listed but the Blue is £200 and the Black is £228. Assuming the price ratio/differences would be the same with the newer drives, who if they wanted a 2TB NVME would skimp and buy the Blue?
How does blue sn570 1tb compare with black sn750SE?? I saw in your tests the sn570 was beating the 750SE, but I thought the black series were supposed to be better (even if SE)....any thoughts anyone?? 🤔
07:13 No, speed drops because the cache memory built inside the SSD gets filled at first 4-5 seconds. Cache memory has very high speed of RW speeds. But after filling it, it just gets busy in offloading the data into actual NVME storage. So, technically, when cache fills, SSD speed gets limited to SATA speed which is that of the NVME media. And that's why WD is guilty of advertising false RW speeds as we should get that speed throughout the complete data transfers; at least for 5gb of data transfers. Then thats what is called as the promised speed.
Some used the TLC etc in single mode as a bit of dynamic cache. So there can sometimes be multiple methods. (It is not separate cache memory, but the existing memory used in a different mode if enough is free, or at least up to the limit it's set for)
Seems perfect for gaming. Read speed is fast. Slow sustained write speeds? Game saves don't take that long. Downloading a game on steam? 45gb/sec for me so the slow sustained write speeds won't matter. Unless your use case absolutely requires sustained write speeds this ssd is awesome.
The most value is most times in middle range hardware... With this you are not too much away from present and not too high in price... The low end sector is often good value too but in some cases it can be bad choice because something you don t know yet will not run well with it and you will regret your choice to buy to much low with price...
I recently bought WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD 2TB and it's speeds are around 500 MB/s read/write. I use it for gaming. My system NVME SSD 1TB, that is also WD shows speeds of 2600 MB/s read and 2050 MB/s write. At least that is what my Windows 11 shows from command prompt when I do a speed check using WINSAT command
I do file transfers to and fro from my WiFi 6 router to the laptop equipped with WiFi 6E, hoping that this SSD improves my transfer speed from slow 51 MB/sec to 100 or so
Nice and compact overview of the ssd. For about 50€ the 500gb version is a nice secondary ssd for games. The 1Tb version cost about 90-100€ in germany wich is a hefty price. The Kingston a2000 for example is available for 70-80 in the 1tb version.
A2000 is 88 eur here, SN570 95 eur. I'd probably pick the SN570 at that point. And I do expect the SN570 to drop in price soon as well. But as always, the best SSD will vary with price changes really.
Hi, I'm from Mexico and I've been looking to update my unit for that model, I dedicate myself more than anything to music production and handling pure audio files. So my question is, would you recommend this unit for this type of work?
I had super slow steam downloads and couldnt explain why. And I have fast internet (800mbps).Regularly dropping to literally 0 B/S where it would basically not move and the game that should be downloaded in 10 minutes literally took over an hour. So I thought maybe its problem on steam end but then when I was constantly getting this super slow downloads it had to be something else. So I tried to download the very same game on my main disc instead (which is kingston kc300 where also my os is) and it work fine and it was consistent without randomly droping to 0b/s where it literally doesnt move. So I realised its due to the WD Blue SN570 disc. My main disc is getting full hence I install rest of my games on the secondary WD Blue SN570 but this is super annoying so Ill probably sell the SN570 and get samsung 980 instead which is for similiar price anyway but it has more consistent speeds.
Thank you so much for this wonderful review, though my question is that if I want to use it as my macOS boot drive in an enclosure on my iMac late 2013, can this nvme live all day tasks or would it die in the afternoon? Do I have a better option in the same budget, keeping in mind my old iMac?
i bought one for my 2020 model hp elitebook but had to take it out because it made the laptop get too hot. i bought a hynix one to replace it and the hynix has dram cache which is keeping the laptop cooler running.
I was just on a channel where the WD red SN700 was discussed. It was obviously an Englishman and spoke like Donald Duck on speed. The woman here speaks loud and clear. Is that US English or is she a educated British?
@@TechTesters OK Good. As I understand it clearly, it's a "good mix". I think every Englishman would do well to live in the USA for a while. I live here near a US base in Germany and also work there quite often. Understanding them and their radio station AFN is not a problem for me. But then again English speakers and I doubt my English skills. Hence my comment... I understood almost nothing in the films about a WD SSD from an english speaker - and in contrast here, almost everything.
August 2023: I've just bought a 2TB version of this drive in the UK for GBP £81.00, which works out around £0.04 per gigabyte! ... Great value from my favourite brand, with an endurance rating of 900 TBW! ... Incidentally, the drive will be used as a USB data backup drive, which will be on my person at all times whenever I'm away from home! It will comfortably hold ALL the data I've created in 27 years of using and building computers, with plenty of space to spare! I will also leave 10% of the drive space UNALLOCATED, to further improve performance and longevity! EDIT: As I'm on a budget, I'm not overly concerned with performance bottlenecks! ... I've been computing on a shoestring budget for decades! 🤣

@@innocentiuslacrim2290 nope , games will run on cloud maybe a decade over concept, I don't know . But os , photoshop , cad, blender ...etc kind on cloud were never derived.
It's a very important question! I talk about this often, but not in every video: SSDs under 1TB always perform worse, typically in write performance. 1TB is usually where performance levels out (and 2 TB SSDs usually perform about the same as 1 TB versions of the same model.) My advice: Settle for 500GB if that's all you need, 250GB is rarely worth it (lower performance even, bad price/gigabyte). But 1 TB & 2TB is where you reach the best balance of performance and value today.
I don't do 3D modelling but I don't imagine its very storage intensive. In which case it probably just comes down to pricing. For gaming it definitely won't matter right now.
You mentioned to not these for video editors, What m.2 3rd gen ssd's would your recommend for content creators and video editors? 🤔 4tb if possible. I was thinking the WD SN750 but the 570 does much better in every test except one.
4TB really limits your choices, and most Gen3 drives (like the SN 750) are "ok" but not amazing, while others are QLC and imho not suitable for pro use because of that.. If you can afford it, I'd probably say Firecuda 530 or Kingston KC3000 (or Fury Renegade, same SSD different look). Corsair MP600 Pro XT might be good too (but I haven't tested it yet). Those are Gen4, but those are really solid performers overall and will easily travel with you to a future PC upgrade. If you don't plan to upgrade to gen 4 platforms any time soon, probably the Corsair MP510 or SN750 then.
@@TechTesters i am also Thinkingk they don't . My 2 sd cards class 10 and two hdds having a lot of important files got damaged .. i am now in a big fear about the purchasinh of a new storage ..
Not good for editors. Oh no.. does this mean, I put the wrong ones in my NAS? I have a QNAP TVS-872XT and use 2 of these (1GB each) for SSD-Caching. The NAS is connected via Thunderbolt 3 to the M1 Max MacBook Pro. Were those a bad choice for me? If so, which would be good? A 980 Pro?
That's a fairly specific setup, it's hard to say how much it will matter and it depends on your workflow. Any large writes to the nas should probably still be affected negatively. If it works fine, I'd say leave it, if you run into issues with transfer speeds, a 980 Pro would be a good choice.

Thanks for the review, now I know what it means having no DRAM cache
Fantastic review! I have a laptop with a dual SSD slot. So like you said, it's perfect for me as a secondary storage.
She said it best: Great place to park a bunch of games & forget it, a 2nd SSD. Have a 1 TB model & use the stock SSD for OS.
I ordered this one for my laptop. I hope that this ssd will be still chilly without radiator.
If they made it in 2 tb model I would consider it. I have 2 of the 2tb wd blue sata drives that work well.
I would expect them to add a 2TB model later tbh
@@TechTesters i found one for 139, should i go for it?
good to know that for gaming it's not an issue
Correct!
You haven't used any modern tools if 600MB/s is overkill. I render image sequences 120MB/each and your overkill speed would kill workflow.
Amazing and thorough review!
Very good and detailed review. Thanks you very much.
Thank you your reply. Definitely will keep an eye open for the SSD content!
Great review with good context and technical rationale. Thanks!
That was the goal, so thank you! :)
About to purchase this, but the 2tb ver out of stock and was changed to SN580 one which is gen 4. Curious if this newer version is reliable or not
I'll see if I can grab one :)
670P 2TB is $89.99 now. Great for game storage.
I wonder how new SN580 "refresh" stands against it?
Testing one soon!
How does blue sn570 1tb compare with black sn750SE?? I saw in your tests the sn570 was beating the 750SE, but I thought the black series were supposed to be better (even if SE)....any thoughts anyone?? 🤔

No, speed drops because the cache memory built inside the SSD gets filled at first 4-5 seconds.
(It is not separate cache memory, but the existing memory used in a different mode if enough is free, or at least up to the limit it's set for)
I can transfer 5Gb without slowing down. Detailed reviews have shown this and found the high speed is good for around 12-13Gb.
great review.. thank you!
Its speed are limited by SATA which only allows 550 MB/s each way
@@Spido68_the_spectator I know. That's why I bought it, because my NVME socket is already taken
@@MSzat888 ok. Still nice and more than enough for most of things. Even bettee that it's big, because small ones are soooo vulnerable to wear
What ssd are you using for the system?
@@ElwoodBluesAKI thought it was also WD. My system SSD is Samsung 980 M.2 nvme, 1TB.

please help which one i should choose
1. WD blue SN570
2. Samsung 970 Evo plus
3. Samsung 980
4. Klevv Cras C720
All in 512GB version
970 evo plus if they are all around same price.
I do file transfers to and fro from my WiFi 6 router to the laptop equipped with WiFi 6E, hoping that this SSD improves my transfer speed from slow 51 MB/sec to 100 or so
I love the design, it is simplistic. That is good.
in 2021 there is no excuse not to add DRAM to all NVME drives
An average user like you wouldn't even notice any difference in performance between the two.
@@ElwoodBluesAK I'm not an average user and I do notice the difference when writing to a DRAM drive and a DRAM-less driver.
You are an average user though.
@@JayzBeerz no, you don't, stop lying to yourself.
@@JayzBeerz then don't buy cheap drives lol so entitled...
It’s still fine for me, my internet is still my bigger bottleneck for writes. I have ~120mb/s internet speed and use it for gaming.
Even with a Gigabit fibre connection you won't run into issues when downloading games, so that's not something to worry about at all :)
Nice and compact overview of the ssd. For about 50€ the 500gb version is a nice secondary ssd for games. The 1Tb version cost about 90-100€ in germany wich is a hefty price. The Kingston a2000 for example is available for 70-80 in the 1tb version.
Germany and low prices. a2000 1tb here 120€+.
@@tadejdanev5030 not everything is cheap :) were does it cost that much?
A2000 is 88 eur here, SN570 95 eur. I'd probably pick the SN570 at that point. And I do expect the SN570 to drop in price soon as well.
But as always, the best SSD will vary with price changes really.
@@luru112 my country, Slovenija.
Hi, I'm from Mexico and I've been looking to update my unit for that model, I dedicate myself more than anything to music production and handling pure audio files. So my question is, would you recommend this unit for this type of work?
Should be more than fast enough for that.
Good review i buy this nvme and is really good for the price and i buy the 250gb version and is cheap and very good performance for the money
I'm curious to know how many times did you have to write the 15GB of data for it start slowing down?
sad that you did not include the samsung 970 Evo with 1tb, bc i got that one on black friday D:
Thank you so much for this wonderful review, though my question is that if I want to use it as my macOS boot drive in an enclosure on my iMac late 2013, can this nvme live all day tasks or would it die in the afternoon?
Do I have a better option in the same budget, keeping in mind my old iMac?
Nice video again .
I feel my SN750(non SE) is old as dirt. Looking at swapping out everything with SN850X but just gotta decide on capacities needed.
i bought one for my 2020 model hp elitebook but had to take it out because it made the laptop get too hot. i bought a hynix one to replace it and the hynix has dram cache which is keeping the laptop cooler running.
I don't like the brand Kingston.
Which one would have been your choice between Samsung 980 and KC2500 for a video editor?
Hi,
You explanation is superb got some idea about SN570, Can you please suggest which one is better whether WD SN570 or Samsung 980?
Generally id say the 980, but it depends on the price imho.
@@TechTesters Thanks much for your suggestion.
so if i can get this or the Samsung 980 at almost the same price, i should go for the Samsung 980
why is that thing not available as a 2242 drive :O would be kinda nice.
Great video thanks
Just copped one from Walmart for $47. May not have DRAM, but you can’t beat the price for 1tb 🤷🏼♂️
I'd like to see review on the crucial p2 1tb nvme
many reviews out and it's garbage
I was just on a channel where the WD red SN700 was discussed. It was obviously an Englishman and spoke like Donald Duck on speed. The woman here speaks loud and clear. Is that US English or is she a educated British?
Neither tbh, I did live in the US for a while but at this point it's a mix of everything.
I'm going through this linux phase and need an SSD for dual booting... Was gonna go with a 2.5 SATA SSD! But this will do much better ig!
If it costs the same as SATA and you have an M.2 slot, this is the way to go!
Would you recommend it over the KINGSTON A2000
Wow- the one I have in mine looks like the old style drivers-- 3/8 inch thick boxy- like regular drivers... how could I install one of those--- maybe an adapter or something or would they even WORK in my optiplex 9010??? Just curious.. i went to school for computers-- but what I learned on is now in the Smithsonian!!! (no joke unfortnately).. and due to surgeries and age- have lost touch with things.. Would it even be possible to put one of those in my older system?
WD SN570 VS Kingston A2000 Which one is better...??
price doesnt matter, but performance matter with TLC, DRAM Memory Configuration....
Plz Help me to which one choos....??
Thanks
You videos was definetely helps me a lot....
Thank sir...
SN570 is faster in most tasks, except when you write lots of data (15GB+) at high speeds often.
brilliant video!
It's software boost ssd as gen3 can be same as gen4 speed
Looks like WD could make a 2242 variant of the drive, or maybe even 2230.
This SSD or the Kingston NV2, considering the Kingston is a bit cheaper?
Silicon power SSDs are excellent- high mtbf and very fast.
In the future the games will run on cloud storage . Operating System will be running on cloud with a small firmware acts as an access portal on local PC . mark my words.. each country or each republics or each state/province or each district will have one common cloud ..
Those times have been talked about for well over a decade. Lets address it when/if it becomes relevant.
@@innocentiuslacrim2290 nope , games will run on cloud maybe a decade over concept, I don't know . But os , photoshop , cad, blender ...etc kind on cloud were never derived.
One a quick question, does the capacity of the drive have any significant effects on it's speed?
It's a very important question! I talk about this often, but not in every video: SSDs under 1TB always perform worse, typically in write performance. 1TB is usually where performance levels out (and 2 TB SSDs usually perform about the same as 1 TB versions of the same model.)
My advice: Settle for 500GB if that's all you need, 250GB is rarely worth it (lower performance even, bad price/gigabyte). But 1 TB & 2TB is where you reach the best balance of performance and value today.
So which one would you recommend the sn570 or the samsung 980 for 3d modelling and gaming?
I don't do 3D modelling but I don't imagine its very storage intensive. In which case it probably just comes down to pricing. For gaming it definitely won't matter right now.
Should I buy this or Kingston a2000?
SN570 > A2000 imho.
@@TechTesters confused between sn570 and KC2500 kingston
should i buy this for OS drive?
Did you already did a review about the Kingston DataTraveler Max with about 1.000MB/s Read 900MB/s Write?
Hm, nope, do have another in an upcoming external review.
Do they give data protection in the warranty ? I say for storage cloud is the best..
I don't think any brands give data protection with the warranty of internal SSDs do they?
@@TechTesters i am also Thinkingk they don't . My 2 sd cards class 10 and two hdds having a lot of important files got damaged .. i am now in a big fear about the purchasinh of a new storage ..
Should I just get 970 Evo plus with $20 more or buy this? Looking at 500GB model.
SN570: $50
970 Evo Plus: $70
I've had too many of these fail on me. One just yesterday. Not sure why. Most WD products are pretty good.
loved the video!
Thank you!!
