super interesting seeing comparison with WD black SN 770, got this one last year for 100$, great to see you get practically same performacne with WD blue for half the price today
Thanks Lana for making great videos. You cover most of the aspects, could you include power consumption section as well in future videos? I appreciate how well you have sorted and created playlists, it is very easy to find content. You are one of the best youtuber.

one of the best reviews i have ever seen. heavy emphasis on the practical aspects all test numbers. thank you for setting the benchmark high for other tech channels.
Honestly this was an A+ video to point me towards a very satisfying product for gaming and general 'light' day to day use. Simple to understand but showing careful nuance as to what caveats to consider. This topic is new to me so I will learn more about this but for now this is just the video I needed to buy with confidence.
Thank you for these graphs. I was about to consider a 500GB p3 plus until I stumbled upon a similarly priced SN580. Definitely helped me with my decision.
Thank you for posting this excellent product review. I built one system earlier this year with three (3) Western Digital Black SN850X drives. It was intended to be an acceptable, but not a high end, system for video editing. So far, the owner of that system says everything works well. I did have to do firmware updates on all 3 of the devices before I handed the new system over. So I expect the budget drives will likely need firmware updates, too.
Thank you for including the graphs as well! Helped me make a decision on the types of SSD's I'll go with and amount of storage :) ; Thank you, thank you!
I bought open box model 1TB and 2TB Western Digital PCIe 4.0 SN850x SSD's to replace my aging Intel 670p OS and game storage drives. Blazing fast performance with DDR5 and a 13700k. Western Digital is putting out some really nice SSD's across the board
At its current price the sn770, which is priced the same, is still a bit better. Runs cooler, has a higher tbw on the 2tb version and is about 500MBps faster in slc buffer mode.
@@ETin6666 I'm thinking more on the longer term when this drive inevitably gets priced on the same level as the SN570. It should just be the go-to option for most gamer builds.
@@AviGamer5021 if it's just for a gaming pc you really don't need to worry too much about the differences between each. I'd just get whichever is cheaper and opt for the 770 if they're the same price.

Your SSD and GPU reviews have been so helpful as I try to get up to speed on current tech since the last PC build I did was about 8 years ago at this point. I particularly appreciate that you talk about power consumption in your GPU reviews. It's not something I've seen many reviewers mention, and the cost difference was not something I'd really considered before but definitely will now going forward. You've earned me as a subscriber. As for this SSD, WD released what I assume is an update to it, named WD SN5000 very recently. I'm sure I'm not the only one curious as to how it compares with this version and if the small price jump would be worth it for new buyers. I also don't know if it's different enough to warrant it's own video, but I look forward to your future reviews regardless. Cheers
This looks perfect for my use case, I'm looking for some low capacity drives to run in mirror mode on my little home server, which is just going to be storing my docker containers and stuff, so *very* light workload. You wondered about how much sense having a 250gb makes, well here's that usecase! I'd even say it's way more than I will ever need or use for this but this is the smallest nvme on the market (from a reputable brand). Looks like I will be picking two of these up.
It's amazing how inexpensive SSDs have become. Never thought I'd say it but for everyday tasks and even gaming DRAM-less with SLC caching and good warranties is completely viable.
I picked up the 2TB version or 90 euro's! I used the SN570 in several systems with pleasing performance, I will be glad to use its successor too. nvme drives really have gone down in price, I remember like 6 years ago I had to pay this amount for a 500GB SATA SSD.
Hi Nada. It was so pleasant to see you and your great reviews again. I would not have shown gen. 5 and gen. 4 results in the graphs. Seems like an apples-and-oranges comparison. Great review and tips like always, shame this drive isn't in stock at Amazon Spain during this week black Friday sales, the next best option seems to be the 2TB Crucial P5 plus at 105€ (plus 6.3 for a Thermalright heatsink) compared to 118/121 or so from a third party seller+ the same heatsink... I will wait maybe some stock will enter through the week. Thanks a lot!

Hi, i saw wd updated their blue series and it is now sn5000 is there any noticable difference compared to sn580? I would appreciate a comparison as black friday is near. Thank you! 😅
Thanks Lana for the review of these SSDs and making a recommendation to us normal consumers , I have been looking for a second drive that I might use inside a usb-nvme enclosure perhaps, this sn580 seems great and better than the nv2 in dramless category, it also beats my 980 pro 1tb in most tests Will the HMB concept also work if we use inside a usb-nvme enclosure? Since it'll be limited to 1000MBps max anyway so does hmb even matter, dram SSD may also perform similarly in an enclosure, right ? Please also do some tests with USB nvme enclosures for added info maybe, also if small icons can be added in graph to show dram/dram-less/hmb etc
The ssd's controller still controls the hmb (i'd call it SLC cache) just fine in a enclosure. You will still notice a difference between a dram ssd and slc cached ssd's like this one, depending on the workload. But it's far less difference when used on a desktop. I use Lexar nm710 2TB nvme's in my 2 m.2 enclosures, they are 20 euro's cheaper than WD but better specs, and also 5 year warranty. Shame they are missing in the lists, as the nm710 and nm790 would walk circles on most of em.
Great Video! I'm thinking of getting this as a second laptop drive and it will mostly store linux isos and media. Would it be worh getting the WD Black instead?
Would it be possible to add a sustained write speed test(Write the entire drive with huge files until it is full and show how much the speed slows down with time) to the SSD benchmarks? That's the only one I am really interested and it is difficult to find elsewhere. Thanks
According to TechPowerUp, sn580 drops to SATA speed at ~350GB mark. That means if you copy/write a 400GB (or anything bigger than 350gb) file to the disk, you will only get its marketed speed till ~350GB, after which it will come down to ~600mbps.
Thanks! I don't really know that many tbh, I just grabbed a Ugreen USB4 one which is working really well, it's just expensive. But maybe that's not a bad place to start looking.

Had both an SN770 and the 850X at the same time and it was basically no difference in real use. Benchmarks was the only place there was any difference. So I sold the 850X. There was just no need for the extra speed.
No SSD will guarantee to work for 10 years. No SSD will even guarantee to work for 1 year (but you will have warranty). Will it likely survive 10 years with regular use? Probably. But anything can break.
Nada ... can you please REVIEW the "TeamGroup T-Force Cardea Zero Z440" ? I believe it is the ONLY NVMe drive that has three times the normal TBW (tera bytes written), of any SSD !
Can you adjust the link to the SSD? When I click it, it's coming up as, "Cooler Master V1100 SFX Platinum ATX3.0". Thanks! I need one of those because my games are taking a while to load off the old dizzy drive.
Wondering is this Blue SN 580 suitable for external casing Mac OS works for 24 hours, 7. days a week? Or i should go with Black SN 770 to benefit from the 20% efficiency technology.
@TechTesters I would getting acasis thunderbolt 3 external casing for the installation mac os. Would this solving the DRAM situation? Else I would have to go for older gen NVMe SSD. The black sn black 850 and above models seems overkill tech with mac mini 2018 I have here.
@@TechTesters Thank you! Really helpful advice. It has become really complicated to compare SSDs in general these days without having to become an expert yourself on the topic. 52 euros on amazon prime days for 1TB is hard to beat. I guess I'll buy two of them. One for my dads hackintosh build and one for my AM5 build. @@hff7904 i already bought samsung 990 pro lol xd
Will you review the newer sn5000?
Absolutely. No eta yet though
@@TechTesters Still waiting for the WD sn5000 review, been more than a month, but no rush.
Does lower DRAM in a NVME lower the quality of things such as durability or does it only affect speed
No bro, it only affects heavy using speed
Had both an SN770 and the 850X at the same time and it was basically no difference in real use. Benchmarks was the only place there was any difference. So I sold the 850X. There was just no need for the extra speed.
I'm confused between SN 580 & SN 770, i heard SN 770 heats less? Can you help me out?
Would it be reliable enough for 10 years, if I buy Kingston KC3000 1TB?
Please help me out.
Will try :)
Also since TeamGroup will buy their NAND from the same suppliers, I really doubt it'll actually be 3x as durable.
@@TechTesters
Thanks !
Is this compatible in Asus F15 FX506HC second SSD slot?
Can you adjust the link to the SSD? When I click it, it's coming up as, "Cooler Master V1100 SFX Platinum ATX3.0". Thanks! I need one of those because my games are taking a while to load off the old dizzy drive.
Fixed! Sorry about that and thanks for letting me know! 👊
Love your vids but i think you need one more graph Endurance (TBW) to show life span :)
It's not really the lifespan though, it's a nice theoretical claim at best. I personally wouldn't put too much value in it.
Interesting video.
Glad you think so!
Thanks.
Does this support with 10th gen Intel i3 backward support?
Wondering is this Blue SN 580 suitable for external casing Mac OS works for 24 hours, 7. days a week? Or i should go with Black SN 770 to benefit from the 20% efficiency technology.
It'll work, but since HMB won't work with USB drives I'd probably grab something dram based instead.
@TechTesters I would getting acasis thunderbolt 3 external casing for the installation mac os. Would this solving the DRAM situation? Else I would have to go for older gen NVMe SSD.
The black sn black 850 and above models seems overkill tech with mac mini 2018 I have here.
Is it going to work on my old 2013 /14 Mac air 😂 that’s what I want to know
I have a 990 pro 2tb and a SN 580 2tb. My OS is on the 580 would it be more efficient to put the OS on the 990 pro since it's pretty much empty?
The 990 pro is the better drive, specs and quality wise, also that has DRAM. You should always try to put your OS on a drive with DRAM
SN770 vs P5 plus as main drive on a system with only PCI-E gen 3? SN770 is 5 USD more expensive for 1TB.
I'd take the DRAM option for that tbh, so P5 Plus.
Gen 5 SSD can wait even though they might be supported by my motherboard. ^^
I think maybe you should do a simplified purchase advice video based on use case and them comparing models from different brands in each price range. Just like you did here.
How much actual usable space, after windows 11 installation??
931Gb
What is the best. Kingston or WD
Both have great and meh SSDs? Depends on the model :)
Can i use this as secondary storage for my laptop?
Absolutely. Assuming your laptop has a slot for it.
