I shouted out this SSD on your live stream during prime day and you were confused because it was listed more expensive than the sn850x. Glad you got around to reviewing it!
It's a QLC drive, so I'm not surprised the endurance is so low. I get that it makes it an affordable drive, but people are going to buy these and potentially use them in high write scenarios. That's not going to go well for those people.
Kingston kc3000 and fury renegade 2tb are king choices. They write 6000 n drop down to 1500!mb sec , while most old nvme drop to 200,300 mb sec . This benchmark do mistake measure to Kingston fury. Its 1500mb.sec mininum typical.
it seems that every reviewer got the 4tb which is TLC, rather than the 1-2Tb which are QLC. What i understand is that the older model SN580 is TLC and cheaper.
I've found out that the sequential read and write speeds measured by Crystal Diskmark are never really seen in real life use. I frequently back up my entire system drive to another internal SSD, so I'm transferring a file size of around 400 GB. The file transfer usually starts out really fast, maybe 1.5 GB/sec but rapidly slows down to under 1 GB/s. So the difference between this SSD and a higher-end SSD like the Samsung 990 Pro is actually a lot less than you might think. So I agree that this is an excellent value.
Here's a tip, start multiple transfers in you pc between the nvme, so split the 400gb into 4x100gb and you'll see its gonna go faster than what you said ;)
I use the Crucial T500 SSDs in my systems and they do great. I just never see them in the comparisons which is disappointing but I already have them. I would just like to know how they stack up against these other drives. Thanks for another great vid Lauri.
It would be great if he would test the T500. It's really one of the best Gen4 drives out there. Tech Testers has tested the T500 and have a pretty decent review of it.
@@theTechNotice I am a mclaren fan 35 years now.... I like the calculate coldness of Oscar, but I really like Lando explosive driving style... so somewhere in the middle a little bit to Lando.... I was very much frustrated after the last one... it was ours but we let it escape... you?
WD SN550 and SN570 also had 900TB for 2TB and 1200TB for 4TB version... so its standard for Western Digital 😀 Regards from Central Europe from my channel Brothers 😀
Very informative - thanks. What would be a good SSD for processing photos 50mB size each and about 50Gb per match - storing and culling on the drive in PhotoMechanic software, then editing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop? Would this SSD work on an Intel iMac 27"?
At Amazon Canada the Blue 5000 is only $10 less than the Black 850X, so it is over priced. The 850X has 2x the TBW 2400 vs 1200 and DRAM plus 50% higher rated speed 7300 vs 5500.
How do you think it will be OK to use such SSD in older server motherboards like Supermicro H11SSL-i in PCIe expansion cards (bifurcation), it has only PCIe gen3. Or are there better options? Gen3 nvme is harder to find these days than Gen4.
All very good but I am surprised that you do not have the Crucial T500 as a comparison...???? Oh, and the WD Black SN850X is cheaper and the T500 only a fiver more! (Referring to 1TB Drives.).
I have an old m2 256gb samsung and a 990pro. It makers no difference when running them, i can`t feel any improvement allthough the 990 is almost 3 times as fast on paper.
Its just a way for them to sell the cheaper TLC versus QLC. In most drives this fast the average user will probably notice no difference in tested speeds. I have one that runs over 5000 read speeds and another just under 3000. I cant tell a difference.
Excellent video... discussion and all the charts/tests allows for easy comparison... thank you! 💯👏

I would not buy QLC drive.
"Maybe its really 2400, but rated lower."

great choices are kingston fury and kc3000, they have real huge speeds. especially renegade fury is legend
Should have tested the 2TB drive so that it can be properly compared with the older SN770.
Id take the SN770 over the SN5000 any day.

It would be great if you could add g3 g4 g5 to the charts to represent what generation the drive is

@@theTechNotice Thanks, I'll have to try that.

Samsung 990 evo 2TB on sale at Amazon now for $130. That’s a deal.

i have same Crucial T500 2TB. would love to see benchmarks.
@@TheGameBench they are the best gen 4 drives
Thank you my friend.
Thank you 🙏
Great review! I was wondering if the Crucial T500 and SK Hynix Platinum P41 can shake the top Gen 4 standings.🤔
Hello from greece....i love your papaya mcl36 on top of the pc....big mclaren fan....love your videos....
Lando or Oscar?

good review, but how does that compare to the Crucial P3 4TB gen4 which is even cheaper ?
funny enough where i live this SSD costs more then the SN850x 4TB
so good. how are the temps?

my 1tb sn570 health drops to 99% after 15tb of data write so anyway ssds outlast tbw spec and eventually die for other reason than that

When will be a review of new Crucial T500 4Tb? And will be nice to see a comparasion with 990 pro, 850x, 530, kc300, renegate
Kingston kc3000 n fury renegade start 6.000 mb sec and drop down 1.500mb.sec. untill they full. 140dollars 2tb, they are beat choices
Since the SN-5000 is dram-less I’m gonna pass, also I’m gonna save up for the 850X 8TB
Weirdly SN5000 and SN850 seem to be equally priced on Amazon?!
only 9 quid difference for the 4TBs and 3.5 quid for the 2TBs on UK amazon

Is there a specific test you can run to compare how they are with DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro?

there is new Team Group T-FORCE GE PRO M.2 2280 2TB PCIe Gen 5.0x4 with NVMe 2.0 i dont see it on list i hope i see review on it thanks

Wearing a blue t-shirt whilst reviewing the new WD Blue NVMe. Your attention to detail is outstanding, Lauri. 👍🏻👏🏻

They couldnt call it 4000?
QLC and lack of DRAM = no thanks
Just as I got the sn850x
You can't go wrong with that model.
Please add the crucial T500 to your test list.
QLC for the high end, wut? Faster sure but not as endurable as TLC.
Too bad this is probably too slow for the PS5. It requires 7000MB/s or close. 6500MB/s is accepted too.
Color grading SUCKS. tone the tubefluencer reds down bro
Avoid 4TB because it is QLC ?
2TB wad TLC drive
Pretty slow for these days....
under 10 minutes GANG👇
