- No, the title of this video is not a mistake! Yes, it is possible to buy a Patek Philippe watch for under $5,000. In this video, John Reardon presents five Patek Philippe pocket watches for under $5,000 each, and shares five reasons why you should consider buying a Patek Philippe pocket watch:
1) A connection with history and tradition: when you feel, touch and wind a pocket watch, you're connecting to something real with a level of quality that is simply not possible to replicate today at the same price.
2) Workmanship of the dial: when you look at the dial of a Patek Philippe pocket watch you are buying one of the finest examples of enamel manufactured in the early 20th century. Each was hand-painted and in many cases, made on gold plate. The quality of the manufacturing is second to none.

when you open the back of the pocketwatch, is the watch directly exposed to the elements?
Hello, thank you for your question. Patek pocket watches often have a second gold dust cover over the movement which protects it when the back is opened, but not always. As most commonly with wristwatches, when the back is opened, the movement is exposed which is why it is important to have a trained watchmaker open timepieces.
